  1. Keep in mind for last Challenge you can enter up to THREE entries for max points. Each one is max 48 x 48... No one said they couldn't combine the three (or more) builds together... they just have to be presented in 48 x 48 chunks
  2. There are no rules against having two seperate shark entries. or two horse entries, or even a shark fighting a horse entry. Or even a horse riding a shark entry... Use what you have.
  3. No problem I think part of the challenge is to figure out how the animals would actually evolve to be in say a mech. So for a shark, is he going to be in a wet suit? will he be in a water ball IN the mech? I don't know - for you to have fun and figure it out Don't stress too much about the 16x16 rule was more to differentiate the two contests, basically the small and big categories. I don't think they'll be much disqualifications from FAPC side as it's an easy rule to get around... (put it on a 16x16 baseplate ), though I'll be watching carefully in the MSFC to make sure that no one builds anythign too big. And of course I'll be making sure no one builds more than a 48x48 (XL baseplate, not 32x32) for FAPC. Hope that answers your question(s)
  4. It's Sci-Fi Month!

  5. Opps! Almost missed this question! Hmmm Another good question - I would think you would have to use the entire shark for at least one part of the build. As part of the fun is to imagine a planet where these animals have evolved into human like (or higher) technology. It's not apparent in the main poster, but two full sized ostriches fit in the cockpit Now you could have some cyborg sharks with your shark guys... that would be okay haha, nice! I look forward to what you're going to do with all of those Excellent question...According to Bricklink they're Minifigs... So I'm going to have to say no, they're not considered animals. Thank you for entering contests 1) You don't have to build a Mech at all! I happened to choose a mech cause it fit the original movie poster, and the spinner landed on MECH haha. But it could be animal controlled fighters, it could be a bunch of animals abducting a human. It can be really anything you want. If anything I would say try to think of something that isn't a Mech, as that's the 'obvious' choice - and I'm assuming they'll be a few entries with mechs! 2) You don't have to use a background, you could just build a singular item. Keep in mind that it'll be voted on by the public, so the composition of your entire build will matter, so the more you put in, such as background and such the better! (You do have an entire month to build!). I would recommend spend some time on the main build, and if you still have time, build a background! 3) Well it doesn't have to be a mech, but really it depends on what makes sense on what you're building. If you have a single little starfighter with a kitten then something small makes sense. If you have a Trex sized time machine, then of course it'll be bigger! Or if you have a scene with dinosaurs in late medieval period, it'll probably be in the max size range!
  6. Sure! Hero factory is still LEGO - as long as you have your Animal(s) in the build
  7. Yup! You can enter all three contests! But you can only have one entry per contest (though you can modify your entry up until end of month).
  8. I would say no... Part of the challenge is to try to use an animal and build something for it. Though I suppose if you didn't have any LEGO animals, you could use an official LEGO brick built animal (such as their chicken or ducks) - as long as it comes in a Set, I'm okay with that. Though I would think using a prefab animal would be more fun ;)
  9. haha those are adorable. I don't think I've ever seen portal builds on such a small scale! Nice job.
  10. Some great Avatars already guys! Nope! Sci-Fi version of your current Avatar (or if you don't have one, anything Sci-Fi). Sci-Fi it up even more! Otherwise you guys are just lazy How could you not? This contest has your name written all over it. LITERALLY. SCI-Fi. Make a Sci-Fier version of Billy no mates!
  11. Great to hear everyone is excited and entering! Hopefully we'll get a lot of great entries - and if anyone is familiar with some of my mini contest over in historical, the more entries, the more prizes... I got a stock pile off goodies just waiting to be dished out Yes and no. We will use the standard public voting for the placements. Though there will be some 'special' judged prizes too... but those are secret. or not, I haven't decided/still seeing what else I can gather If I were you, always build what you want. I never build 'to win' I build what I think is fun. Which typically ends up with something silly and never win haha no. You don't have to use the spinner. You can if you want. But be forewarned, the spinner is binding and I can be very mean (puts rarest animal I have on spinner) I would hope so. It's in the promo build That's a good question. I hadn't actually thought of it. I going to say Yes - they are animals. To make it simple, let's just go with Bricklink - if it's under animals, then it's good to go. Though I would point out that using a humanoid fig might not win as many votes... (like you have problems winning votes ) Absolutely! In fact I would recommend them. They're tiny and awesome for Sci-Fi No limit on the number of animals you use, or even the different types. It's really up to your imagination.... Like a Cat vs Dog epic spaceship dog fight would be pretty awesome.
  12. Haha... The trophy won't be competing to win itself... that would be like some sort of contest paradox... which ironically would be very Sci-Fiy... Anytime is always a good time for Sci-Fi.... now is even better good time I figured this'll wet your whistle.
  13. Icecream eating insects is all Hinckley There's always time for a first stab into Sci-Fi! and what a great time to try it out too! Great to hear I knew there were more Sci-Fi fans out there! Ewww.... And I thought my LEGO was dirty :rolf: Well you have a solid month to build. Get cracking!
  14. Tosht - yes please sci-fi: null Joking aside, you can either sci-fi your existing avatar, or create a new one all together (I'll amend the rules)! In the end it'll be your fellow EBers that decide... (And of course if you had a sci-fi one before, you could sci-fi it differently, or build something brand new)
  15. Hinckley was kind enough to create an awesome banner for us Well the probe was a good start... it got you wamed up to Sci-Fi Awesome! I can't wait to see what you come up with Well that's sorta why we do these months, to try to get people trying new things! You never know until you try... you might end up building something incredibly different than a what a regular 'sci-fi' builder would. (take a look at when Derfel built his goregous rover!)
  16. Who said you had to do about aliens? Or even futuristic technology? You could do a Jules Verne-eqsue drilling machine! Or some steampunk! Or even H G Wells style Time Traveling romp! That's why I love Sci-Fi, the possibilities are so varried. And if nothing has been done that you like, well make up something new!
  17. I suppose if you couldn't find another baseplate you COULD use a 32x32... but I'll be counting the studs ;) The space ship has to be able to fit wtin 16x16 (use the diagonals!) Part of the contest is to try to get the most out of a small space. (Note that the trophy is 8x8, so yours can be 4 times bigger!)
  18. It's Sci-Fi Month! With Sci-Fi Prizes: Read here for more information about our exciting contests and prizes for this month.

  20. Sci-Fi your Avatar What you have to do: Change your current sig fig or avatar and give it a Sci-Fi twist! Maybe your avatar will be assimilated it into a greeble collective, or streampunk up your sigfig, or send hurtling back in time! Edit: (If you don't have an avatar, or a Sci-Fiy one already, create a Sci-Fi one! (or an even Sci-Fier one!) Example: Before / After Rules: Change your avatar to a picture of your newly created Sci-Fi and then post a small picture of it here as well for posterity. Good photographic skills are recommended. If a voter cannot see your entry clearly, they probably won't vote for it. After the deadline for submission has passed, I'll put up a voting topic where all members will be able to vote for the best new avatar. Prizes: The top three entrants will receive a special Sci-Fi tag for their EB profile. (Note: a tag is not a physical object but just a fun little piece of forum flair.)
  21. Forbidden Animal Planet With the release of all the new Friends animals - Eurobricks has decided to create our own Sci-Fi theme in the form of a Contest! The idea is take a stock LEGO animal and Sci-Fi it. So simply take the minifig out and put an animal in, all the while seamlessly combining it into a Sci-Fi MOC! Will you build a Monkey Mech? or a Steam Punk Snake Pirate Ship? or a Scorpion Space Station? or Retro Sci-Fi Rat Rocket? or Time Traveling T-Rex's Transformer? or Frankenstein Frogs? or Dystopian Dogs City? Still don't have an idea on what to build? Well take a spin on the Eurobricks Animal Planet Randomizer™: Watch it in action: And the Eurobricks Animal Planet Randomizer™ has decreed: Kitty Steam Punk! The Rules Entries must prominently feature a complete LEGO Animal (anything listed under Animal on Bricklink counts!) in a Sci-Fi setting. Humans are still allowed in the MOC, but as secondary characters (such as fleeing, backrubbers, food... etc) Minifig based animals (such as CMF Dinosaur or Ape) are considered secondary character and do not count towards the LEGO Animal One entry per member. Entries should be new (never posted anywhere previously) and be between 16x16 and 48x48. Your imagination is your only height limit. Entries must be posted by midnight anytime on Earth, January 31st. Voting will last 7 days after close. All entries are to include only real LEGO. No clone brands, 3rd party parts, or digital entries allowed. Decals will be allowed if you've made them yourself, but no cutting, sculpting or modifying parts. Entries are to be placed in their own entry topic in the Sci-Fi forum. The title of the topic should begin with "FAPC:" and then give the name of the entry. Upload your images onto a dedicated image hosting websites such as Brickshelf, Flickr, etc. Do not use Eurobricks attachment to upload your images. The entry post (first post in your entry topic) may be edited at any time up to the end of the contest, so feel free to make improvements if you wish. Entries are to consist of no more than 3 posted pictures of 800x600 or smaller resolution but may also include a link to a folder of additional images of any size. In the event of a tie, the Staff will vote to decide the winner(s) and all Staff decisions are final. Prize Pool First Place: 70705 Bug Obliterator (Donated by TLG) + 1st choice of FAPC Trophy + Sci-FI Tag Second Place: 70704 Vermin Vaporizer + 2nd choice of FAPC Trophy + Sci-Fi Tag Third Place: 70702 Warp Stinger + Trophy + Sci-Fi Tag Trophies: Questions, and clarifications, can be made in this forum.
  22. a Micro Sci-Fi Contest There are literally limitless Sci-Fi possibilities, and one of the hall marks of Sci-Fi are large grandiose SHIPs, bases and settings. While our imaginations are limitless, our LEGO collections are not. Sometimes we have to build small, or Micro. Your challenge, is to build a Micro Sci-Fi scene of your own imagination. You could build steampunk, or something out of HP Lovecraft, or massive Space relays and stations. Or even recreate your favorite Sci-Fi movie in Micro form! The Rules Entries must prominently feature an LEGO Sci-Fi setting. Builds must be 16x16 or smaller- no overhang. One entry per member. Entries should be new (never posted anywhere previously). Entries must be posted by midnight anytime on Earth, January 31st. Voting will last 7 days after close. All entries are to include only real LEGO. 23. Woh. Very different ship! I like it, those red/green bands are fantastic - fits just right I like the lack of spoilers/wings, it was a brave choice... Normally it feels naked without it, but I think this works
  24. Wow... that frame is awesome! Almost a shame it's covered up, I definitely appreciate you showing us the interior Though do those trans green pieces actually exist in real life? or is it a LDD trick? those would be cool to have
  25. Awesome! I totally want to build Starcraft LEGO now
