  1. Well, frankly I can't see Prints really applying to this comparison Ron. Prints only require minor retooling of the equipment for every new print, unlike a totally new part which has enormous costs due to the die mold. yeah they can tweak redo figures every time , specially in printing as it's negligible cost wise. and let's also take into account that SW, which was always figure dependent (not counting the USC line) has been credited as financially saving TLG's business, it came at the time they needed it most as i recall they were nearing a bust point. (course the mid to late 90's were bad on pretty much the entire toy industry, which in tern was credited to the global recession and entrenchment of the home game'ing systems which rapidly vied for the smaller % of consumer funds for luxury goods) but while accessories do require new molds (so yes that would impact against the years "new mold" budget), i find it hard to believe they would not be wise to do things like create 2-5 new items and fashion them in a single mold. specially as accessories would not require the same level of testing a new building part does. And ya, think it was in an interview in (I think) BLOCKS that basically laid out how new parts come to be. a designer creates it, but then it has to get past review, prototyping, basic testing, revised, repeat untill it can pass. and as i recall, the review also looks at things like need and re-usability vs existing parts. iE can we already do this with existing parts, is it versatile vs very niche. I think alot of this came from post near bankruptcy in eairly 2k, where they looked back, easily saw the huge library of 1shot molds from the 80's and 90's and realized it was business wise, bad. Now some they have redone to make them more versatile, like the old castle wall part (now molded without the large stud area and last i saw used as engine cowlings in nexo's "arrons arrow fighter". *looks at post* okay, clearly rambling, time to shut up.
  2. Well here's my ruppies worth. Given that atm the biggest themes for TLG, aka the bread winners are "story themes", SW, ninjago, Marvel/DC etc, they need the character focus, so only makes good business sense to deliver it. And on the system mold front. I think it's less pandering to the demands of us AFOLS then it is we are now in an era where once atime fan builders are now TLG designers, and i recall reading once, in an interview, that new parts are basically come about due to. Need. if x part is only way to achieve the result. And even then only if it's feasible and the new part design can pass all required tests and meet versatility requirements. from that i took it to mean the current focus on mold design is aimed at 'bang for the buck'. aka the new part with 1 or 2 uses justi wont happen in system parts (which for me excludes minifig acc)
  3. yeahhhh, in your budget, maybe some of the eairly underground minecraft them. getting a small bit of that theme got my crazy amounts of lbg & dbg blocks.
  4. I remember those hoses. the red ones. they came with one of the i think Mtron kits n i think (straining memory here) the samsonite aka us/can ver had red & grey flexy hoses where i've only seen grey on bl & brickset. (this is obviously from memory with no proof yet)
  5. okay, first off, preventing totally seems to be 100% not possible (aside from a vacuum sealed vault with 0 light). but basically, if their IN the bookcase with the doors, you could switch the glass with UV glass, but that's about it, UV and age are the basic 2 culprits, and only keeping them out of prolonged uv exposure is practical, age, well solve that & your the next richest man.
  6. especially if you have a few months in a body cast :) "its not a thread, its a mega thread" really, its preference. I happened to have bin cabinets already so just jumped straight to those (plus i'm ocd so organisation is important to me)
  7. Saw that Link. Sadly wrong side of the pond else I'd easily order way too many. that's like my storage wet dream As others have said, i'll group by type, then just go, course for a ocd freak theres something zen like, for me Sorting is just a total de-stress moment. If you can't pass that Hurtle, your doing it wrong :), that or the wife has a worse addiction :D
  8. You might want to check your wal-marts too Andy, I know in my neck, there's usually a area in the sporting goods area usually jammed with plano product, and frankly, at better prices then other carriers. i always prefered plano products back in my CMG days (collectible minature games)
  9. Okay, lets put some minds at ease. the leds used in modern 2x3 light bricks should have a burning lifetime of 10k+ hours. damaging an LED, usually is the result of voltage surges (having blown up a few myself) and the light brick doesn't have the ability to do that. frankly the LR41 button cells will die on you most often as a LR41 cell has only a nominal 30 mah capacity. without doing the math, the cell pair should last for a day or so continous. the led run like that a long time.
  10. Actually Rotundus, it might result in the opposite actually. the single current volatile cost lego has in thier production is petro cost (for reasons many have already shared.) I know at my workplace we switched one of our product lines from plasticed cardboard containers to a totally recycled pulp based packing and once the conversion had been in place for a bit, cost savings was huge and allowed us to market and keep the price to consumer at a much lower point then if we hadn't, (before that every major oil price spike generally wound up adding a bit more to end price). my point being if the end result is actually more cost friendly, a good solid upstanding company like LEGO will pass some of that cost savings onto it's consumers via reduction in pricing. And going "Bio" doesn't have to me more expensive, or why they are likely looking at all current and up and coming technologies as they've given themselves 13 years to pull this off.
  11. Chris Mcveigh did some (with instructions) here his website, under modular arcade
  12. Yeah, ran into that a couple times, both going both ways. both with ldd and lcad suite. I have ran into a few odd parts it happens with (mostly old versions), and seems theres a few discrpency's in the database of bricklink's model db. 1 appeared to be misslabled, and remember NOT every part has been modeled yet, part of being in beta. but honestly, now I must admit, Studio has become my primary building engine for digital design. between snap/collision, the new ability to NOT be able to pic color/part combo's that don't exist & having rendering built in. I just don't use other options as much, hell Leocad, my old go to has been relegated to "finiky" stuff (where I need part placement precision)
  13. pretty much what everyones said mate. yes right at this moment, you don't have time. been there, done that. long as you still love your hobby, keep your stuff. yes it a pain to store/move. but when your life finally gets to the point where you can enjoy it, you'll get to enjoy it. thinning though I would suggest, anything that makes you go "Why did i get this" n if you can't think of a reason right away, prolly should move on. it's how i've maintained several collections over 30+ yrs
  14. Sven, i want your pab wall! We never see daleks (1x1 w/4 studs on sides) locally, i'd buy a case if we did. Wow nice haul!!!
  15. Foxw

    Canadian Eh?

For Lego events I suggest bricksets "event calander".
  16. In this case it will be a copyright & likely trademark dispute. Lepin is clearly flaunting those with thier reuses of box art, heck most seem to just swap the logo. Now the big problem, for Lego, is this is being held in a chinese court. To date, when a non chinese company files against a chinese one, their courts have always favored the home company. I recall even the likes of Apple having the door slamed on them. Leys just say chances arn't good for Lego. The fact that they couldn't get a sales injunction says alot given Lepin hasn't exactly subtle in their knock offs. If they kept to retired stuff, Lego may of just overlooked them, but they recently decided to copy inproduction sets like the DS. Which is just a giant "smack me" sign
  17. I WANT YOU N HIM IN my group lol, my current group i dm for are great (mostly), but nooooo way that hard core
  18. Don't feel bad, it was hasblows kreo line that led me back to lego, darn TF franchise. I had almost the first 2 building set waves & the first 2 blind bag fig waves. Course then got the wife as much of the D&D line as i could, but that was when product supply for everything locally got spotty n no one had any new stuff Back story: (here in my region of canada, all stores without thier own supply depo chain, even wally has to get their goods from one of a handfull of private middle man depo's, which for 14 months thier inv were bought out by wally world, and put on hold clogging depo's n depriving the new kid, target, from getting new release stock) . I also may have a tendency to ramble.... whoo a squirl :)
  19. well, (now this IS ONLY MY UNDERSTANDING), part of the issue is that the materials have changed, it's not the same ABS from when we were kids 30 yrs ago. And alot of that is due to things outside LEGO's control. i would not be shocked to find the change came from the old formula being considered 'harmfull' somewhere, blah, blah. but the reality is this issue started creeping in about 2k which i believe is when lego switched ABS suppliers. granted i'm no historian and not an authority.
  20. i'll actually admit to making my gaming groups use minifigs they moced up on the board as thier chars :)
  21. Ya that was sorta my point, Microsol was developed for polystyrene models and decals intended for those. Mr mark softner was designed for the high quality bandai and kotobouki waterslides, which are firmer n stronger then most.
  22. Greetings guys n gals. Okay long n short of it, I'm trying to get a lug started in my area, so i'm looking to find fellow brickers in my area. Far as i can nothing exists around these parts, but there has to be some of us as lego doesn't exactly sit on store shelfs here. and the closest Lug is toronto, (close to 2 hrs away), so while maybe doing a sub lug might be viable, still would be nice to have something for the obvious throng of *FOLS in this area. So if your in the region, speak up, maybe we can get something going.
  23. Some part designs do seem to be more prone to failure then others, To date i've found moderate to severe cracking in the following (part - color) Several 1x1 slopes (cheese slope) - in light and dark bley 2 1x4 curved slope - RBrown 1 1x2 tile/groove -LBG 1 2x4 tile/groove - DBG All pieces are under a year old (bought new since may 2k16) and were in a maxi-mixel build. Some are minor tiny cracks, but some like the 1 1x4 curved are almost severing the part. As this is all ive seen since may (when i woke up), clearly somethings up. Maybe we all should be documenting here what parts & colors we each have had issues with, and with time and a bit of effort a coralation might be found with enough data.
  24. actually, for best results, you would base in white, mask off the A then final color coat, then pull the mask off, let cure then topcoat in clear
  25. Yes! A topic where i can actually contribute and NOT sound like a gawking bystander. Okay, first off, you really do want your own, look at the pixma line from cannon. Thier actually fairly sharp solid laser printers, used several over the years and usually once a year about now wallmart deep discounts one with all the back to school hype. Far as paper, I've used many many brands over the years (was a scale mecha model builder as budget allowed for last 25+ yrs). One of the BEST i've ever, ever used and most versitile was http://www.modeltrai...calpaper.html It goes on clear, dries white, little veggie oil after drying makes it clear again. Bit pricy, but ohhhhhhh so good. N worked fine in my pixma's as shown in this pix https://scontent-yyz1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/t31.0-8/fr/cp0/e15/q65/12983457_10153951410486131_267447738002373383_o.jpg?efg=eyJpIjoibCJ9
