  1. This would have been my 3rd set I think in 1980 (after 850 and 851). Loved it then, still love it now. One minor quibble, but the 2x2 turntables were in many of the early technical sets for steering, the 850 and 851 forklift and tractor for example both use them. Maybe not in black, but they're used. Thanks for the review!
  2. Excellent news, well done! http://technic.lego.com/en-GB/designers/blog/default.aspx?date=01/11/2012%2008:00:00 http://technic.us.lego.com/en-gb/Designers/Bios/Milan%20Reindl.aspx
  3. The pics aren't massively clear. I gather that's black string used so far, similar to the 8421 crane boom?
  4. Sorry to be picky, but that's closer to 2 1/2 hours. Maybe 30 x 5 minute sessions = 150 minutes.
  5. I too had started a build of this type of container truck (or Skip Lorry in the UK) using 8052 as a chassis. Same ideas at the same time I'll keep going as I need the practice but good work!
  6. I recognise the image but I don't think I did. And I do have set 850. (It was 30 years ago so it's possible that I've forgotten. Oh My God, I'm so old )
  7. I limited my options to those sets I actual have. 855 crane was built/rebuilt/played with by far the most as a child.
  8. I didn't actually realise it was a flip-top until a second viewing! I like it
  9. If I understood correctly from other posts, it's also able to supply more power to attached motors. The RC Buggy motors in particular can benefit from the extra available power.
  10. It all looks OK. I don't have an RCX block to test and have loaned out my NXT. Cheeky question, but is the code you've posted exactly the same as what you're trying to achieve? If you've simplified the example for posting then could there be a typo in your original? The NQC Progrmaming Guide also mentions that there's a limit of 32 global variables, but doesn't say what the behaviour if exceeded is. Could you be hitting anything like that?
  11. I don't think the Air-tech claw has an air tank? I was under the impression it did so was disappointed when I finally picked one up and it didn't.
  12. Stick your fingers in the way while rotating. I dare you
  13. That's a ridiculous criticism. you may as well say that the 9393 B-Model dune buggy is no good for ploughing fields as intended. That's an excellent MOC Jovel and looks good too.
  14. Yes, but some of us are amateurs and should be more embarrassed by our MOCs than the fact we build at all
  15. I'm 40 and came out of the dark ages about 5 years ago when my gf bought a mindstorms set, so she's OK with it (as long it doesn't become obsessive) My dad (an ex lorry driver) retired last year and has received technic for his last two birthdays and Christmas. He was really difficult to buy stuff for previously. Seems happy :)
  16. Like the telescopic arm on the handler. Nice.
  17. I bought 9398 because I have a £75 Amazon voucher which is just waiting...
  18. Bought 9398 yesterday. Finished building it tonight. It's not wrong to drive it over your five month old daughter as she lies on her play-mat is it?
  19. After thinking I'd get the 9396 Helicopter and leave 9398 til Christmas, the thought that stock might be limited made me reserve and pick up the Rock Crawler from my local Argos on Sunday. Impulse buy. Oops. £139.99 with a £10 voucher for my next purchase. Helicopter is £69.99.
  20. I'm positive that's Alistair at 15:09 - It doesn't look like me anyway.
  21. 9398 has a lot of playability and obviously the new motors, but from a mechanical perspective there looks to be a lot more interesting functionality in this model. I hadn't even considered buying 9396 until reading this thread. i'm now considering buying this first and leaving the rock-crawler until Christmas. Fun is not the same as interesting.
  22. That needed a double-take to check I was looking at the Lego model and not a real life inspiration. It's models like this that really blur the argument between studded and studdless construction.
  23. I only recently started separating my sets out and sorting by parts. You have finer granularity than me as I just have one box entirely dedicated to "stuff with teeth", one box for "thin lift arms", some trays for "bits that allow an axle and pin to cross at right-angles". It works for me so far.
