Perhaps LEGO are waiting to reveal it as a reward for this forum reaching 500 pages of mostly pure speculation!
-
I think you make some good points @Huigberts Builds, and I certainly wouldn't bet on Gringotts being included. In particular I agree that $400 is a steep ask for many especially at the moment. Nonetheless LEGO is releasing a $400 set regardless and there's naturally going to be stuff in there that people will be unfortunate to miss in a more affordable set (WWW for one). What I would find odd about a follow up Gringotts beyond its omission from Diagon Alley as many have stated is twofold: - The level of intricacy in the build may be inconsistent between sets (if Diagon Alley is targeted to an older market) - The ordering would be peculiar. A Gringotts followed by Diagon Alley would be great, everyone excited for Gringotts and then the prospect of a $400 addition of the rest of Diagon Alley would be very enticing. But Gringotts afterwards seems like an add-on and I can't think of an instance of LEGO doing this in such a significant way (ie the most iconic part sold separately). We'll find out soon enough and I'm sure we'll be happy with what LEGO does regardless. They have barely missed a beat with the new Harry Potter line.

The Hogwarts Great Hall and Hogwarts Astronomy Tower sets were sufficiently "complete". They contained the name of the sets in their entirety and more, there wouldn't be any expectation to get anything else. If there was a $400 set called Hogwarts Castle however and it didn't have the great hall for example then I'm sure people would be disappointed.

I have to disagree about omitting Gringotts being a shrewd business idea. There are other factors at play besides maximising sales: - Many fans will see Gringotts as the centrepiece of Diagon Alley and feel let down by its omission (if I didn't have the previous Diagon Alley then I'd certainly be one of them) - A set of this scale (by far the largest minifig scale Harry Potter set) should be "complete", it would be difficult to market it otherwise - An add-on set would be a cheap move (look at in-game purchases for EA) and LEGO puts customers at number one, that's why it is one of the most reputable business (a very profitable thing to be) - Selling loads of extra $100 sets can happen regardless, Harry Potter is a big universe and if that is LEGO's model then why not pick one of numerous other locations (Ministry of magic, Lovegood house, Durmstrang ship, etc) Borgin and Burkes might be more justifiable if they are sticking exclusively to Diagon Alley, but I think it would be a significant misstep to sell a $400 titan of a set missing the most iconic part. Imagine if the Paris Architecture set didn't have the Eiffel Tower!

There are 7 stickers on sheet A that I can't definitively assign to a specific store: - 1 and 2: the three pieces of parchment (probably Scribbulus) - 3: the brass cash register. Could be anywhere but there is one on Ollivander's desk. - 9: the patched upholstery. Again could be anywhere but the Leaky Cauldron has leather upholstered seats, this looks more like it will fit on a bench or something. - 11: the two signs? I can't make this out, pretty sure "Galleon" is the top word, the next bit could be "fire whisky" but I don't think so. I suspect this will be another sign overhanging the street (as we have a front and back). Unfortunately, I don't think any of these necessarily point to the Leaky Cauldron or Gringotts being included. In terms of overall structure I would guess it might be similar to the old chamber of secrets set, with two halves of the street fronts folded together to make the narrow alley but can be unfolded to display all of the store fronts in a row. This has got me thinking. The D2C Hogwarts had 4 sticker sheets, with some several times larger than the ones we have seen. So there could well be more yet, however the microfigure scale means that stickers need to be used instead of minifig scale props etc. Unless of course Diagon Alley is microscale... (kidding). Scribbulus and the Daily Prophet do seem strange inclusions although the Daily Prophet office is literally just a door so doesn't really count as a full shop. Maybe we will get more! In any case, the detail and obscurity of the stickers and minifigs leaked so far are an assurance that the set is in good hands. Well researched with the fans in mind, I don't think we'll be disappointed.

It could be, although I’m sure it appeared in the newspaper montage after the scene at the ministry. I too would love some different daily prophet prints, the Boy Who Lived paper seems to have been in circulation for over a decade! I wonder whether we’ll get small nods to other shops as in the last Diagon Alley set, owl stands and cauldrons etc.
-
Don’t think it’s been mentioned but there’s a “HE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED RETURNS” poster on the main wall of clippings. So we have a reference to year 5 too. Just years 4 and 7 missing!
-
So excited for this! The attention to detail is great and it looks like it is very closely based on the film set. I always thought we’d get a good number of shops and I’m delighted with what we have! Hopefully the Hogwarts logo might mean we get new Hufflepuff/Ravenclaw quidditch robes. I really hope we get a leaky cauldron and I’m almost certain we’ll get gringotts. From a selfish point of view I don’t really mind as I have the previous gringotts which still holds up but it’s bound to be in there. The set is £350! It would be such a bizarre omission.

I do wonder whether LEGO really cares about the leaks. It might be only a small minority (us) who actually see the leaks compared to the rest of their market (mainly kids) who will find out by the official images through social media etc. anyway. And even then, the leaks have churned out the majority of nearly 500 pages of hype/discussion in this forum that we keep checking for updates. It's effectively free marketing and it's certainly worked on me as I've now just about convinced myself I need every set this wave!

Is there any indication yet as to the distribution of the figures?
-
I wish there was an easy way to buy a complete set, although it is exciting not knowing who you will get in each pack. I don't like changing existing sets but I'm tempted to change Bellatrix and Ginny's faces from the Burrow, other than that I'm not sure who else I would like doubles of. Maybe Ron and Hermione for extra butterbeer? I wonder whether the new butterbeer piece might have been made with Diagon Alley (the Leaky Cauldron specifically) in mind. I'm glad baby Harry doesn't have a scar as it wouldn't have suited being included with Lily - unlikely that LEGO would have included a deceased alternate face!
-
We could get leaked set photos and people will still think it could be microscale!
-
@Guyon2002 @BacktoBricks Thanks both. I like that they've combined both PS and CoS Harrys into one fig. In a set this size we'll surely get Ron and Hermione so I expect they might be in their CoS outfits so that they are the same height as Harry (unless we get all three at an older age eg HBP). So excited to see what else leaks in the coming days. I have my fingers crossed for a Tom the barman next.
-
Am I remembering incorrectly or was there a "leak" a while ago of a PoA Harry (the same as the Knight Bus/Expecto Patronum set but with dark grey mid-legs)? Presumably it wasn't a fake as there haven't been mid-legs in dark grey?

Excellent figure, I'm starting to care just as much for different variations as new characters. Especially when they're given this much detail. This would also seem to imply that B&B is included. I for one have no issue with it technically being a narrow passage away from Diagon Alley, it's immediately connected to the Diagon Alley scenes and is a shop that we see the interior of. Is it just that the name of the set is supposedly "Diagon Alley" and not "Diagon Alley and Knockturn Alley" that puts people off? I think it would be an interesting build with a nice interior. As for other inclusions, I still think we'll get a WWW. Otherwise it would be strange for there to still be no Fred and George figures.

Florean Fortescue appears in this clip from the Chamber of Secrets, go to 3:07 and play at x0.25 speed for the best view. Hopefully an indicator that we might get other scenes from that film (including Lockhart at F&B). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4JFIfxPYBw

Very excited about this! The figure looks excellent and also seems to be a good sign that the designers are knowledgeable/care about the source material. Hopefully this means we are getting more builds than expected. A street of lots of two story buildings would be excellent, it would give the busy feel of the first film which I also hope is what they are going for. I've seen it mentioned that if it were screen accurate the buildings would be 3/4 storeys but I don't think that matters. LEGO generally make it as small as possible so that we still get the right impression, otherwise the great hall set would have had 30 storeys! Can't wait for more leaks! I'm hopeful that there might be lots of minifigs given that we've seen such an obscure one.

Very nice @Bugbot20082 I've actually almost completed a remarkably similar MOC of the same part of the castle including divination class and trophy cabinet (from 4842 Hogwarts Castle). I've cheated though by adapting the the section of the UCS Hogwarts. Also struggled to think of a play feature, I loosely based the ground floor on the third floor of Hogwarts with Trophy room and Armoury and wanted to include a feature using the one-eyed witch from the old "Harry and the Marauders Map" set but couldn't incorporate it into the given space. So I've got a knight statue that spins to reveal a jewel in homage to the original 4709 Hogwarts instead!

I know it's been touched on before but what other accessory packs would people like to see LEGO make? I love that they've given an easy opportunity to get all the house uniforms and hope we get similar sets in the future. My favourites would be (assuming that LEGO would reuse some figures): House ghosts - Nearly Headless Nick, Bloody Baron, Fat Friar and Grey Lady Death eaters - Bellatrix, Lucius, Yaxley, Dolohov Order members - Sirius (OotP attire), Lupin, Tonks, Mundungus I think the house ghosts in particular would be great additions to a Hogwarts display, if we're getting carried away maybe LEGO could include a Peeves rather than a side build. I know it wouldn't be screen accurate but he's one of the best characters in the books.

I think (hope) we’ll get at least 6 buildings in DA. It’s surely more than double the size of the previous set and if we think of it as four astronomy towers then I can only see two buildings that could possibly be that size (Gringotts and WWW). And none of the other buildings need to be more than two floors. In order of likelihood I think we’ll get: Gringotts, WWW, Ollivanders, Leaky Cauldron, Borgin and Burkes, Flourish and Blotts, Quality Quidditch Supplies, Madam Malkins. It would be great if Lego could combine the last two into one building like a small scale version of the modular bookshop set as neither need much interior and we never see inside in the films. As for mini figures I feel people are a tad pessimistic about how many we’ll get. Given that the previous set contained 11 (plus a skeleton), I think for the extra £200+ we could expect at least say 5 more. I would hope for: Bogrod, Griphook, Fred, George, Ollivander, Tom the Barman, Borgin, Lockhart, Lucius, Percy, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Hagrid, Mundungus, Bellatrix. Pretty sure I could die happy if we got all that!
-
I think Krum's hair in dark orange would be perfect for Percy as his hair is too curly for a slicked back hairpiece imo. I hope Percy features in Diagon Alley, there's a chance as he was present in Flourish and Blotts in the films. Maybe we could get a Prefects who Gained Power book to go with him!
-
I’d personally rather not get a 4th Cedric or Fleur when there are so many characters we haven’t had at all yet. I also don’t think we’ll get any more specifically Goblet of Fire figs or sets, they seem to be doing two books per year. Previous HP runs fizzled out on sets from book five onwards so it would be great to see brand new scenes such as the ministry, grimmauld place or astronomy tower.
-
The Nicolas Flamel in the films is fictitious so I don’t think there would be any issue there. I haven’t personally got an interest in FB figs but Flamel would be nice to have for a HP display due to his lack of aging. Assuming we get 16 HP figs I would like: Vernon, Petunia and Dudley Tonks, Kingsley and Kreacher Moaning Myrtle, Lockhart, Madam Pomfrey Percy, Bill and Lee Jordan Rita Skeeter, Xenophilius, Mundungus and Tom the Barman Although I reckon we’ll get another variant of the Trio again.
-
I agree that a Madam Pomfrey would be a great addition especially with the hospital wing in the clock tower set, perhaps with a bottle of Skele-gro. I’d like to see the Patil twins in Yule ball attire, maybe as a two-in-one figure like we got for the Weasley twins in the Diagon Alley set. Rita Skeeter, Tonks, Kingsley, Moaning Myrtle, Kreacher and the Dursleys are the obvious missing characters. One that hasn’t been mentioned much is Percy Weasley, it would be great to get a version of hogwarts robes with a prefect badge and maybe Errol as an accessory.

Awesome! I've been eagerly waiting to see Saruman, not dissapointed! One comment on the troll: it looks as though there are moria/mordor versions of that too.
