DC Superheroes 2019 - Rumours, Speculation & Discussion
Duncan Young replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in LEGO Licensed
I just don't see a Joker variant. Not one you can't have in sets that is. Same with Aquaman. Batman? Obviously. Superman and Wonder Woman? Of course. Green Lantern and Flash variants- absolutely. One failed movie hasn't stopped Lego from making five different Green Lantern figs (though three all Hal variants). Harley Quinn and Deathstroke are also popular enough to be considered "confirmed" The rest will be relatively well known. Batman and the more popular Leaguers on the packaging alone will be enough to sell it to kids. But relatively. Not the Uber Popular ones. LBM wasn't that. Even Harry Potter had the likes of Dean Thomas, who as far as students go, isn't as popular. Lego isn't going to throw in popular definitive Batman villains when or else they won't be able to sell those villains in the actual sets. That's why they went with ridiculously stylised Joker, Two-Face, Bane and Croc figs in the LBM line. As, if they kept that high quality but with their comic appearance, they wouldn't be able to go "look, a new comic Joker" -

Aye, I was in Smyth's just two days ago and they had the likes of Mongul, Doctor Fate, Cassandra Cain as Black Bat, Duke Thomas as Signal, Swamp Thing and a Zero Year Batman. To kids it doesn't matter who they are, as long as they look pretty. The likes of Swamp Thing or Mongul are just monsters to them. Cass and Duke are Bat-Friends (which they are really), Zero Year Batman is Hiking Batman and so on. And to @Robert8, each time a licensed CMF series is released, even if it's taking the space of a standard one, it's not there to appeal to the same market. Harry Potter made sales because of the Harry Potter fans, likewise with Disney, and it's not like those produced tons of pieces that could be reused for other themes. Imaginext has been going strong with their series, using the likes of Parallax Sinestro and Flashpoint Aquaman for the second series. When I personally, rarely, get non-licensed CMFs, it's with the purpose of using parts to bolster my DC collection, and I don't think I'm alone. In this case, the DC series whether it's popular characters or "obscure" ones, isn't meant for you, and likely is far more appealing to kids than a gardener with a Flamingo or a cyclist. I think you severely underestimate the appeal of these kinds of characters when Superheroes in general are bigger than ever. -

No, series 19. There's a character with a black Firefly helmet who happens to resemble the Arkham Knight -

I'm still hoping for an Arkham Knight Batmobile, maybe with a Batwing to carry it, like in the game- would account for the larger piece count, and would give us decent figs The Arkham Knight Batsuit in the App-Controlled Batmobile shows that they've not forgotten about that game yet -

Hopefully, if it is indeed the Batmobile, a bunch of those pieces will go to creating a diorama around the vehicle, so that it's a proper display piece. So the Batcomputer or an Axis Chemicals build if it's the Burton one -
The very same!

I mean, Lego probably could do KGBeast now that they're simply calling him The Beast in comics He's just a really cool character in general that I'd like to see pop up
-
Ok, I've done a more realistic list already, but if it's characters I really want, then 1. Batman (Hush) 2. Superman (Reborn suit) 3. Flash (Wally, Rebirth) 4. Deathstroke (DCSV) 5. Parasite 6. Metallo (Pre-52) 7. Count Vertigo (Classic) 8. Monsieur Mallah (With printed Brain piece) 9. Black Bat 10. Azrael 11. Cluemaster 12. Ares 13. Giganta (With a brick built fig in a coinciding set) 14. KGBeast 15. Doctor Polaris 16. Black Hand 17. Mirror Master 18. Heat Wave 19. Merlyn 20. Doctor Fate

Speaking of accessories in the main thread, I was thinking how great it would be for Deathstroke to come with a 2x2 tile representing the literal Judas Contract

It's been done (and quite nicely) by a few people I think it works rather nicely -

Though we're getting into wishlisting now, Hawk and Dove would be good inclusions considering their roles in Titans, maybe even Question, who continues to be pretty popular, or Ted Kord. More Ditko characters is rarely a bad thing -

Plus, using Firefly's helmet would allow them to include a print of Cliff's brain inside! -
I'd take all of them and then some! I was actually thinking about the sequel, and had the idea that they'd use all the "cool, extreme" villains, to up the ante from Kite-Man and the like. Like maybe they try to lead Robin astray? That way you would get characters like Anarky, KGBeast, Black Spider, Tally Man, Mekros, Prometheus and the likes of Azrael Batman I'd just be happy with more Bat-Rogues, especially Signal Man, The Spinner, Meltdown and the Clock (the 40s Batman villain, not Tockman)

@Brick Cucumber I absolutely agree It's a win win honestly. Batman continues to get a steady wave of sets, with an occasional appearance from a different hero, while for Flash or Superman fans, they can pick up variants and villains of their favourite heroes without having to buy a £40 Flash-Boat or Super-Dune Buggy -

I don't think these characters are as obscure as you think Like, Inside Out Man, Signal Man, Lightning Bug etc are obscure or "rare" as you put it But Zatanna, Doctor Fate, Flash's Rogues Gallery, Merlyn and so on aren't obscure. They might not be in live action movies (which is why most people are so familiar with Batman, Superman, Penguin, Joker and Ivy in the first place) but that doesn't make them obscure. They're big comics characters and have appeared in several pieces of DC media, from the Arrow and Flash shows to animated shows Young Justice to Justice League, Justice League Unlimited and Justice League Action, and the animated films. What makes a character obscure to you? Because it can't just come down to what movies they're in. I mean, Shang Chi is getting his own Marvel movie! Most of the demand for Hush comes from his appearance in the Lego Games, one of his only media appearances until the animated film -

I mean a group of bright colourful characters isn't all that bad. Sure kids won't care who they are, but they will see bright and cool characters and want those, far more than ordinary woman with bike or something similar. Of course, you're also not a DC fan. Most of the characters included will be those who made appearances in the last couple of Lego games, Lego Direct-To-DVD films etc (including Fate and Zatanna for instance) -

Don't see why the C-List figs wouldn't work in a modern setting. I love the characters personally, and they still make appearances in modern comics, just not as much as characters like Croc or Freeze. I was very happy to add those to the collection -

The Sci-Fi guy, uses Firefly's mask in black, which is just about perfect for the Arkham Knight -
