Buzzkill, well its not unstable, you gotta get the legs set up right(doesn't need to be perfect), and if you do its fine. Again on the Gigaton, its just fluff, thought I'm not sure where you get the idea the Gigaton is a close combat mech, wait let me re-read my hastily thought on fluff again..... Okay, yeah not seeing it guys ;p Mike
-
Well, its just fluff, I just didn't really like the top being mostly flat so I added some missile-thingys. I kinda had to write it last minute, thought I don't mind pointing out that Railguns are also pretty much Line-of-Sight weapons too ;p Well it doesn't help my camera is good for anything other than "point and click" trying to do anything specific is mind numbingly painful, at some point I'll need to pic up a decent camera, anyways to get a better idea of some of the parts I grabbed a screencap of the LDD version; Mike

Gigaton Heavy Mech The GigaTon Heavy Mech, the peak of Conquest's line of Armored Assault Mechas. Bulked out to almost immobilizing proportions and armed with some serious heavy weapons. dual Heavy Plasma Cannons large enough to be classified as Artillery weapons and a Pair of low yield Tactical Nuke Armed Rockets for when things get hairy. Because both its weapons are Line of Sight based weapons it needs armor to get that direct line from its weapons to its targets. Also an addition version with 6 EXTRA missiles, cause when Missiles and Guns are concern, MORE IS BETTER! Buzzkill Honestly I don't even know, I built it while watching some SCII Casts on Youtube so....yeah. Mike

Man, Finally got some time to sit down and work on this, Got around to the Railgun, Radome and the Feet/Lower legs. Its really started to get a bit big, having a hard time fitting all the parts on the shelf I've designated for it, it might have to conquer a shelf from my Gundam models! xD Sorry for the crappy pic, my camera only seems to be able to take decent pics during the day.... Mike
-
Whelp, finally had more parts come in, so I was able to sit down for a bit to finish off teh Head and do the Body; Next up is the Radome and hopefully if I get the 1x15 Beams I need the Railgun as well! Then the part I'm dreading the most, the Legs! Mike

Many months ago I stumbled upon Metal Gear REX on Brickshelf, and right then, I knew I had to have one for myself. Luckily a bunch of people put tonnes of effort into making not only a part list, but also a bunch of LDD files of the entire thing. So for the last few months I've been slowly gatherign the needed parts, I have 18 Bricklink orders in shipping so I should be really getting to full steam for building in the next week or so. In the mean time I managed to get this far before I ran into too many parts I'm still missing! xD Metal Gear REX WIP 01 As a Reminder, this isn't my design, for more info see the Original Brick Shelf Page Mike

Ummm......Did you read his post? Anyways, on to some more in-depth comments, these aren't in any particular order, but I'll do my best to group it up by relative items. ChainGun Honeslty, that Chaingun is FAR too small to require the 3rd leg, so heres what I'd do. I'd remove the Current chain gun, and instead try and work a smaller one(s) onto the Main Arm(s), then figure out something new for the Weapon Arm, personally I'm a fan of missile pods like these; HI01 'Sunshine' Unnamed Mecha MAU You wouldn't be able to do a very big one, but still. Stabilizer Leg And for the Stabilizer Leg, the biggest problem for me is that a leg with that many bent joints just isn't very stable, I'd ditch the current leg, and do a pair of solid legs that flip down. Walking Legs As I said before, the legs feel very stiff, and you should look into getting some Pneumatic T Pieces for the legs, they'll greatly improve the posability of the legs and give you more more dynamic options when using the Support Leg(s). to see an example you can heck out my LEGO Heavyarms, all it's leg joints(actually ALL of its joints) use the T-bars, and they are very nice! Mike

It's a good start, the concept is interesting and I like the thought put into the 'Deployed Stance' with the shield armor, but I do have some concerns. Mainly just how stiff the legs and possibly the arms are, I haven't had a good chance to look them over(posting from my phone at work xD) but I think you'd greatly benefit from getting you hands on some of the T-bar pieces used by the pneumatic stuff, they make fantastic joints in all kinds of set-ups. I'll go into more detail once I get home from work. Mike
-
While it would be fantastic, the problem comes when you remember that the scaling in SupCom is kinda weird, the Monkeylord is close to 100 Meters tall! Mike
-
Might be because those grey clips ARE the Electron Bolters ;p Mike
-
You can use the setup, its not exactly ground breaking, the legs themselvs are just Horizontal Clips and 1x2 Plates with Handles, the hips on the other hand, I and a touch proud of(but I'm sure they've been done before by someone), but they only really work for Multipeds or Spider/Insect analogs Read This Thread, in it I kinda talk about how I went about familiarising myself with building Mechas and such. Mike
-
I think that is just some pneumatic tubing.... Mike
-
Well.... I think so ;p Might just take a bit to actually get said bricks! xD EDIT: Also came up with some alternate team Color schemes; Saddly the Yellow is impossible, but ht erest should be fine. Mike
-
Well, despite the massive amounts of black smoke the thing spews out ingame, its hardly steampunk! xD As far as Commander adn conquer goes, IMO SupCom is by far superior, it has a steep-ish learning curve and requires a decent comp, but it is unlike any RTS game I've played before or have played since it came out about 4 years ago now give or take. Its definately worth checking out if your interested. Anyways, I goot down to do the colors this morning and a touch more greebling on the sides, and here is the final result! Next up is a part list and then eventually getting my hands on said parts! Mike

I got bored tonight, and one of the Threads over at the Gas Powered Games Forum turn to the topic of thier newest games, Supreme Commander 2, having a rediculous art syle where untis and buildsing look like they are made of LEGO, I took offence because that would actually be awesome, as this WIP MOC shows! Still need to work on the colors and greeble up that flat side area, btu all in all I'm pretty stoked about this. For those Curious to see where this is from and to see it in Action, You gotta hit up the , watching the whole 4 minutes is recommended, but those in a hurry can start at to skip right to the important part.Mike

For me, having only recently fully shed the shackles of my Dark Ages, find myself is a decent collection of parts, but they tend to be in various stages of fading or UV tinting, or I'm just missing newer parts so I tend to start in LDD and go from there, I'll build prototypes of the whole thing or just sections as needed(as a Mecha builder testing joints for strength and posability is pretty central to doing a good design IMO) and then go about building or obtaining the parts I need for the MOC via Bricklink. Also a good rule of thumb when ordering from Bricklink IMO is to always order more than you strictly need for the MOC, mainly so you have extras incase of bad parts but also to expand your collection. I also find doing an LDD model, even if it isn't 1005 accurate due to non-standard connections, is still a good way to cronicle how something went together and a great way to share designs as well. Whelp, as the title reads, this is really the first time I did my own thing with Technic(I have a built Mahjqa Intermediate Chassis, but I'm still waiting on my XL motor to come in xD) and lol is it full of flaws, but first the Pic! Turned out okay, mostly.....it drives around fine(been chasing our cats with it) but there are a few obvious design flaws; 1 - The tracks have very little support 2 - its rather long IMO 3 - Because I used two fo the same size rectangular frames, the whole thing is actually an even number of studs across, which made it odd to try and mount anythng on it(even just the IR reciever was a challenge >.>) 4 - It has practically no ground clearance 5 - Still kinda slow, its running with a 1:1 gear ratio from the M motors, but I'd like to see if I can build something faster.... So I'll likely be dismantleing this guy over the week end and trying something else. I have a possibly wacky idea involving vertically mounted motors....Any tips for building Tracked vehicles? Mike

LegoManiac83, I just want to say that out of those 3 pics I picked out six sets I used to own as a kid! xD As for the topic at hand, if you still want to keep the boxes folding smaller ones flat to slide into bigger ones is a great way to save on space as well as maybe picking some out(if there are any at least) what you don't need/want to keep and recycling them. The parts can easily go into ziplock bags to keep them organized by set. Mike

Technic "Themes"
OrangeKNight replied to OrangeKNight's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I didn't mean for any confusion, I was just looking for a good way to describe what I wanted to get across. And while I do agree that mining versions of front end loaders or dump trucks aren't exactly way out there, but at the same time I doubt LEGO is just itching for an excuse to do soemthing spontanious and crazy either, doing something like in teh pics I posted of underground versions would still be close to what they've done, but at least ina new and refreshing style/shape, I would LOVE for some really crazy stuff, Like a Shuttle Transporter built to match a Giant Technic Space Shuttle with detachable Fuel tank and Boosters, but again, giant leaps don't usually happen like that you know? Fully motorised 8265
OrangeKNight replied to davidmull's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's true that the RC parts (receiver + remote) does have a hefty up-front cost, but you can always just switch out those parts between different MOCs instead of buying those for every MOC. The most you should ever get at once would be 4, because that's how many channels the remotes can use, so having more is only handy if you either break remotes often or you plan to RC a LOT of MOCs. Hmm, the Flat bed looks good for getting a devent amount of the flat rectangualr panels and other sorts of panels as well. Mike
