For me Rivendell will definitely be a day 1 purchase! It has been about 10 years since I bought all the LOTR and Hobbit sets, and I never thought I would see a new one released :-)
-
Thanks! And good point about the cape, will do that ;-)

Exactly that. To make a set featuring a scene which only lasts for a few seconds in the movie instead of Minas Tirith or Edoras for example felt incomprehensible to many... But the King and Soldiers of the Dead look great!
-
I wish that were true, but from what we have heard this D2C is apparently just a one-shot LOTR set as a part of the Lego Icons brand, and not the first of a new LOTR wave...
-
These rumors of a Rivendell set are bittersweet for me, as I was really dreaming of a Minas Tirith set with minifigs of the Witch King, Eowyn, Faramir, Denethor.... I already own all the original LOTR sets, so I really don't need to get again the 9 fellowship minifigs... oh well if it is true, I guess at least there is potential for a set with a nice elvish architecture as we see in some MOCs.

Although I am still hoping for a big Minas Tirith set, I would love a giant map of Middle Earth covered with microscale versions of all the main LOTR locations :-)
-
Barad-dûr would be nice, but I doubt they go for a second huge black tower after Orthanc. As for the black gate, we already have it as a set, or rather half a set - I had to buy two 79007 to make a full one :-)
-
I have the actual Anduril replica from the movie, so I guess it would be cool to hang its Lego version by its side, but I would much prefer Minas Tirith!
-
To me, that suggests that a lot of people have very bad taste ;-)
-
Sadly, I believe the chances for more sets are very small, even if this big one sells well. They are probably just trying to make a one-time gesture to the LOTR AFOL who were frustrated by the limited number of sets in this theme. But I would love to be proven wrong here :-)
-
Brickfanatics also thinks that at the rumored 500€ pricepoint, the new LOTR D2C set could very well be a giant Minas Tirith :-) https://www.brickfanatics.com/lego-the-lord-of-the-rings-2023-everything/

Exactly! And you don't age out of collecting that easily, I plan to be a fan of Lego and LOTR till my last breath :-)
-
This matter is too serious to joke people :-) We are talking of the first LOTR set since 2012 ! 10 years of waiting... Lego can make a lot of fans ecstatic or devastated depending on what set they make...

Writing in capitals does not make things true :-) How do you know? Do you read in their minds? It might affect it... or not. We will know soon enough :-)
-
We already have a set with Smaug (the Lonely Mountain).
-
I could not care less about the Brickheadz sets, which I all find ugly. As for an Edoras set, it is a great idea and would be my second favorite for the D2C set (right after Minas Tirith, of course!)
-
We already have Bilbo and the 13 dwarves in the Hobbit sets. We already have a set based on the Mines of Moria (tomb of Balin) and a Bag End set. A Balrog against Gandalf set would be nice, but not as much as Minas Tirith in my opinion.
-
Same here, I already own all the existing sets and minifigs. If they do only one single new set, it should be one with new minifigs, not just existing ones. A Minas Tirith set could feature Eowyn, Faramir, Denethor, the Witch-King...
-
Maybe they are as iconic as Minas Tirith, but not more in my opinion. And besides I believe they are much less likely to be chosen for the D2C set, given that we already had Bag End as a set (which is the most representative part of Hobbiton) and Orthanc tower (so they would probably not choose to make a second dark tower).
-
I think you are thinking too much :-) In my opinion there are (unfortunately) no waves of sets coming, nor competition. There will be one DnD set, and one LOTR set - hopefully Minas Tirith (I don't count the brickeadz, just because they don't count). I would love to be wrong, but that's most likely all, falks!
-
@Bugbot20082, I fully agree with your analysis. If this D2C set is confirmed, it will most likely be Minas Tirith, for all the reasons you mentioned. I just can't wait to add it to my LOTR display on a huge Middle-Earth map i had printed especially, together with all the existing sets (bought all of them as soon as they came out a decade ago). As for the BrickHeadz sets, I will obviously ignore them as usual, ugly and useless as they are (except for parts maybe).

This week I bought the Medieval Blacksmith of course :-)

For 1150 points they better be metallic! Otherwise Lego will get tons of complaints...
