  1. A 19-stud rear axle with independent suspension and differential lock (the latter by Sariel). Haven't tried it out yet but it feels pretty solid.
  2. This is terrific! I wish I had even just a fraction of your talent. Really looking forward to getting my grubby mitts on this set so I can tinker around with it and implement your mods.
  3. @nguyengiangoc: never, as far as I know. But it does seem to be in a different colour from the one next to it. @Saberwing40k: I reckon they used two because one wasn't enough to bear the torque coming from the motor. I had to do the same on my tow truck to get the RC steering to work.
  4. 48?! Wow - one BWE alone would double my supply of 5x7 frames On another topic, is it just me or is one of the two adjacent clutch gears here yellowish? http://zusammengebaut.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/lego-technic-bucket-wheel-excavator-42055-power-functions-international-toy-fair-2016-zusammengebaut-andres-lehmann.jpg
  5. I think that's a sound estimate. The 42042 has 48 links per track with 27 studs between axle, if I'm not mistaken. The BWE looks more like 29 studs. Addendum - has anyone tried to work out how many 5x7 frames it has? I get a splitting headache from staring at the screen for more than a few minutes but there must be at least 30 of them.
  6. I already commented but I just can't help coming back to gaze at the pictures in rapt admiration. I think Jeroen Ottens nailed it when he mentioned how polished the finished model looks - everything's there for a reason and everything feels, well, right. If great writers could be translated into Lego, then your telehandler would be a worthy rendition of Hemingway and Pavese.
  7. Love it! Awesome functions and aesthetics. Will you make instructions? I'd be glad to pay for them.
  8. Yes, I'd like to put it in the same place as the original's. I guess I'll have to wait for the set to come out and then see what I can come up with - I can always beef it up so there's more room for glorious gears
  9. Thanks! A bit messy, perhaps, but it was thrown together between work assignments. Good question. The superstructure looks pretty spacious, so there ought to be enough room to move things around and build everything in. I'd also like to gear down downstream to optimise torque. Do you reckon it's feasible? 42042 It looks like it's got independent tracks à la 8043, as Nguyengiangoc also recommended. It does make more sense than using a subtractor, since on a model of this kind the latter would be more of an exercise in gear-cramming than a useful or even just fun feature.
  10. That might be a good idea. I reckon there's space in the substructure to incorporate a subtractor but given how slow this type of machinery is meant to be, it might not really be worth it. Anyway, here's a very rudimental gearbox I threw together (sorry about the lousy phone pics): http://bricksafe.com/files/hateofallhatreds/gearbox%201.jpg http://bricksafe.com/files/hateofallhatreds/gearbox%202.jpg Red is input, black is output. The gearbox ought to fit into the set - with a few tweaks here and there, of course.
  11. I've been working on a gearbox to replace the official one (I know, it's kind of silly to be modding a set before it even comes out) and was wondering whether the configuration I came up with makes any sense. I'd like to keep the single XL motor and have six switches: 1- activate bucket wheel and conveyor belts 2 - slew superstructure 3 - raise-lower bucket wheel arm 4 - drive backward/forward 5 - steer left/right 6 - adjust second conveyor belt (left/right) With the obvious exception of the first one, the switches - rather than the battery box - would be used to activate the various functions in either direction, like on the 42042 crane.
  12. Barman was the first (as far as I know) to post a mock-up of what he thought might be the Class' steering mechanism.
  13. A beauty like this deserves to be shown everywhere. Really well done, Andrea, and cheers from a long-time guest in your homeland.
  14. D3K, your tow truck is what inspired me to try my own hand at MOCing. I had started out wanting to use a dedicated motor for each function on my own tow truck but then I came across your masterpiece and realised how challenging - and fun! - it can be to design an effective and efficient geartrain. So thank you for sharing your work
  15. I find it appalling that someone would criticize Sheepo - he puts tons of talent and effort into his creations and his website has plenty of free stuff.
  16. Why on earth should he have assumed it was a good Lego version of a real GT3 RS when all it has in common with the original is, more or less, the aesthetics? And for €300? C'mon man, don't be such a gainsayer - or as you Italians say, bastian contrario.
  17. Off-topic, but I really want to thank you for sharing this tidbit. This is the kind of info that sends Lego-loving humanities buffs like me into raptures.
  18. Couldn't agree with you more. I can't help but feel that some reviewers out there would rather blame things on TLG than on their own sloppy building.
  19. Does that take currency exchange rates into account?
  20. By red bushes do you mean these? alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=32054&idColor=5#T=C&C=5 You shouldn't push them all the way in before page 156. There's also the chance that you may have mounted the 2 11-hole DBG beams 1 stud forward.
  21. Not sure I'm allowed to post the link here, so I'll pm you
  22. A pretty popular Swiss e-shop has the 42056 available on pre-order for 289 CHF, i.e. around €260.
  23. Crikey - what's wrong with sharing some genuine enthusiasm? Back on topic, Lego helps me stay (relatively) sane whenever I'm translating some off-the-wall writer liker Burroughs.
  24. Thanks! I'd love to try my (lousy almost-beginner's) hand at one of these. Ha ha, all those fans would've been a godsend here last summer!
