I love the Laketown outfit for Tauriel. Its way better than her Mirkwood outfit. I also wouldn't mind seeing armoured Kili and Fili, only if we also get Thorin in armour and the Erebor set is based around the BO5A rather than the forges from DOS.

So this is some serious news. It seems that Lucasfilm is making some major changes in the world of the EU. You can read the official announcement here: http://starwars.com/news/the-legendary-star-wars-expanded-universe-turns-a-new-page.html Basically, they are creating a new EU, which will encompass all new stories, books, comics, games and shows released under the Disney banner. The old EU is no longer considered to be part of any of the cannon, but are still going to exist under the name of Star Wars Legends. So, essentially, the 6 films, The Clone Wars, Rebels, the new trilogy and spin off films, and all upcoming books and other media are considered the real story, while everything else no longer exists in the spectrum of Star Wars canon.

Its a crying shame that the license agreement doesn't allow LEGO to produce army builders in this style: http://shop.lego.com/en-CA/LEGO-Castle-Knights-Accessory-Set-850888?fromListing=listing If this kind of battle pack were released for The Hobbit, we've have no issue building up massive armies. They could make two packs: Men and Elves: two men of Dale (one archer and one soldier, two different outfits and faces) and two armoured Elves (with new helmets) wearing capes. Orcs and Dwarves: two armoured Iron Hill Dwarves (identical figs, each with a new printed shield and different weapons) and two armoured orcs (one with a helmet and one with hair, double sided faces to allow for variety). I know that this is just wishful thinkment, but it would solve all of the minifig distribution worries. If these were allowed, then the sets could focus on the heroes of the battles. Sorry I kinda went off-topic with wish list making.

Well, LEGO has obviously made some strange choices. I'm glad to hear that Erebor will be $120, but I hope the price isn't just because of Smaug. Also, an $85 BO5A set sounds good, but makes it impossible to army build unless you Bricklink (which I don't do).
-
Wait, what are the prices again? If the prices remain similar to the DOS wave ($24.99, $34.99, $59.99, and $84.99 here in Canada), then shouldn't the Laketown set fit in the $60 slot, like last years' Laketown set. If the new Laketwon set has a similar amount of figs with a similar two building design, then just swap the boat out for Smaug and there you go. That leaves the $35 slot (last years' Mirkwood set) as an army builder based around the BO5A. Then we've got the small Dol Guldur set and the big Erebor set. That makes the most sense.
-
I'm worried that four sets won't be enough to cover the BO5A. Now that the title itself is the name of the battle, I feel like the battle will run for at least 40 minutes to and hour ( I bloody hope so). I fear that with only one set actually based on the battle itself (sure, we have Erebor, but that sounds like a DOS set, plus Laketown, which has very little to do with the battle, and then the small Dol Guldur set), LEGO will fail at capturing the sheer size and epicness that PJ is going for with this battle. I'm still hopeful that Smaug comes in the Laketown set, and the Erebor set is indeed based around the battle. It would make so much more sense, and judging from the video game, Smaug only needs to be slightly bigger than the current fantasy dragon to be reasonably proportioned to the figs.
-
I'm not too thrilled with this change, but I feel like the BO5A is gonna be a huge deal. I expect at least 40 minutes of the film to focus around the battle. I also feel like The Hobbit trilogy, compared to LOTR, is lighter on the big battles. Sure, we saw some of the Battle of Azanulbizar in AUJ, but DOS basically only had small action scenes centred around the heroes. I'm hoping that the BO5A makes up for this lack of big battles, and thus justifies the title change.

Whatever sword he's holding, its unique and one we haven't seen before. It looks very cool. Unfortunately, I don't have a new enough game system to play the Hobbit game on, but I've watched the whole game through on YouTube. It seems like LEGO kinda got the idea of a LEGO-style open world fantasy game with LEGO LOTR, and nailed it with The Hobbit. I'm really hoping they do a one big game that combines both trilogies together. Having a open world for all of Middle-Earth with as much detail as there is in The Hobbit game would be amazing and beautiful. One thing that always bothers me about the LEGO games is the designers can go and make really awesome LEGO style parts thats we have no chance of seeing in sets (all the dwarves weapons, and Thorin's shield). Its a fierce shame that the license agreement works against individual figs being sold outside of sets. A Middle-Earth CMF series would solve so many issues we've been having with the theme. Its also too bad that we have to wait till July till we may or may not be seeing one of the sets, and then another few months till their in stores.

Why all this hate on Tatooine? I honestly consider it the most important planet in the series. It's where both of the mains heroes of the Star Wars universe came from, and it's where everyone kept getting drawn to in one way or another. I think, if handled tactfully, Tatooine could be a gold mine of storytelling opportunities. While on the topic of Tatooine, does anyone think it could make an appearance in Rebels? I've been thinking about it, and it would be ridiculously cool to see Ben while he's 'hibernating'. I would love to see Ahsoka return for a story arc or even full season in Rebels, and have her meet Obi-Wan on Tatooine. It's just such a bittersweet idea, and would be so interesting. Someone even came up with an idea for how an animated Ben would look, and I think it looks awesome. http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/166/d/9/rebels_wallpaper__ben_kenobi_and_ahsoka__by_engelha5t-d691sg5.jpg

I truly believe that this could become a very popular and lucrative project if Citizen Brick had a cheaper way of producing figs. With a reduced price (I'd easily pay $30 for 3 figs), they could make this a CMF style line, and introduce 12 new characters every 6 months or so. I've even taken some time to come up with potential future 3 packs: Jorah Mormont, Daario Naharis, Grey Worm (Dany's servants) The Hound, Loras Tyrell, Bronn (Knights of King's Landing) Cersei, Tywin, Littlefinger (Council members) Hodor, Bran, Rickon/Osha (Bran and friends) Sansa, Margaery Tyrell, Shae (Ladies of King's Landing) Stannis, Renly, Robert (Baratheon Bros) Catelyn, Robb, Ned (Unfortunate Starks) Samwell, Jeor Mormont, Tormund (Wall themed guys) Oberyn Martell, The Mountain, Ilyria Sand (Season 4 King's Landing) Theon, Yara, Ramsay (Greyjoys and captain crazy) So yeah, those are just some ideas I have. Theres plenty more characters that could be introduced, but I just thought of the ones that would likely be most popular.

I think it would be interesting if the Skywalker children (assuming they are the new heroes) are drawn to the planet due to its prominent connection to the Force. Think about it: Anakin was, in a way, the physical embodiment of the Force. He was conceived through the midi-chlorians via Darth Plaguise's experiments, and was born on Tatooine. Does it not make sense that that sort of event to take place would create a naturally powerful well of Force energy on the planet? Perhaps that could be a way the new villains get introduced, and the new young Jedi are sent to investigate. Then again, thats just me shooting off ideas and cool theories. Whatever they do, I'm excited to see Tatooine post-Empire. It'll be interesting to see if it becomes a Republic planet, and slavery gets banned ad whatnot. It may not be the hive of scum and villainy it always has been.

So this thread has kinda been quiet for a while, and I thought someone should revive it. It has been reported that Tatooine sets are being built for Episode 7, however it seems that rather than use the old Tunisia locations, they are building in Morocco. http://www.slashfilm.com/star-wars-7-tatooine/ While its exciting to hear that Tatooine will return for Episode 7, I'm a little upset that they aren't returning to Tunisia. Then again, they're is likely a good enough reason. Also, even though a return to Tatooine would be amazing, I'm really hoping that this new trilogy introduces a few new planets to become prominent fixtures in the Saga (much like how the Prequels gave us Naboo and Coruscant).

I kinda see what you mean. But at the same time, it's not an issue, at least for me. They may not fit in perfectly with official figs, but I feel that the overall detail makes up for that. I'm really looking to treat these like shelf pieces rather than anything else.

Hello everyone! So I didn't see this news anywhere on the site and decided I should bring it to the attention of the forum. Citizen Brick has released a new series of 12 Game of Thrones inspired Minifigs. Seeing as they can't call them by their official character names, the series is under the name Dragon Sword Fighter Force. You can buy the whole lot for $220, or three for $55. Sure, it's a pretty steep price, but given the detail put into the figs, and the fact that this is likely the closest we'll ever get to official Game of Thrones LEGO, I'd say it's not too bad. http://citizenbrick.myshopify.com/products/dragon-sword-fighter-force-complete-series-plus-bonus-minifig The characters included are: Khal Drogo, Danaerys Targaryan, Melisandre (sold in a package of three), Joffrey Baratheon, Tyrion Lannister, Varys (sold in a package of three), Jon Snow, Ygritte, a White Walker (sold in a package of three), and finally Jaime Lannister, Arya Stark, and Brienne of Tarth (sold in a package of three). Given the fact that the new season of Game of Thrones has just started, the timing of this release couldn't be better. I know I'm gonna start scrounging up every loose penny I can find to get my hands on the beautiful figs. I also desperately hope that Citizen Brick plans on doing this Game of Thrones minifig series thing like LEGO's CMF series. There are so many characters to choose from, and enough fans and collectors who'd definitely want these masterpieces gracing their shelves or dioramas.

Baby Smaug is adorable! And Gimli has a diaper... I'm not sure how I feel about that
-
Whats baby Smaug? I've kinda been absent from this thread for a LONG time. From what I can gather, we should be expecting some images of the sets/figs within the coming week? If this is true, its very exciting. Getting a full look at Smaug, along with some of the Dwarf warriors, will be very welcome. Also, I can't decide whether or not I like the Darth Maul style Bolg headpiece. I feel like Bolg needed to be similar in height and stature to Azog, so not going with a similar head/shoulders piece seems like an odd move. Maybe they decided to make him look smaller so Beorn looks more menacing when set beside him?

FINALLY! I've not been posting for a while due to the apparent lack of real news, but here we are! Smaug looks much better in these images than in the video game cover art. I'm very satisfied with this.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars The Lost Missions
Fives replied to commanderneyo's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I don't believe this is true. Many of the concepts discussed in these episodes are based on Lucas's original ideas of the Force and what it is. I feel like Qui-Gon's description of how the Living Force and the Cosmic Force are connected, and how he ties midichlorians into it, kinda helps remove any discrepancies made by the PT. It helps bring together the PT and the OT versions of the Force in a way that makes sense. The Force isn't magic. It's very similar to Aryuvedic transcendental meditation in its belief that through enlightenment, one can become part of the universal field, aka the Living Force. -
Star Wars: The Clone Wars The Lost Missions
Fives replied to commanderneyo's topic in Culture & Multimedia
So I just binge watched the 13 episodes, and I must say I'm very happy with them. While many things were left unfinished (I think most importantly the fates of Ahsoka and Ventress), I truly believe that this season will change how fans watch the films. Here are my thoughts on the story arcs within the season: Order 66 Arc: Very interesting. The story was extremely captivating, and by the end of it you really begin to feel sorry for the clones and how this order is engineered into them without a choice. Also, seeing the clone bar was really funny. Clovis Arc: Kinda boring, but still interesting in that it shows how in control of the war Palpatine really is. He's basically playing a huge game of chess, except its on a galactic scale. Jar Jar/Windu Arc: What the heck? I would've never put the two of them together, but it kinda worked. Still, these felt like serious filler episodes. They didn't really add much to a bigger story, and just kinda happened. Although, seeing a short return of Talzin was very exciting. The Yoda Arc: Wow. I'm speechless. Amazing. These episodes are without a doubt the most significant in the series. They shed light on so many important subjects, and help bridge the gap between the PT and the OT like nothing else before it. Truly, it has changed the way that I see the events of the ROTS and the OT. I believe these four episodes are one of the biggest things to happen in the Star Wars universe for a while. -
The thing that's really lame about that old Luke is that I still have that fig, quite a few of them actually! I likely won't get the book now. Whatever.

Would you like the Vikings theme to return?
Fives replied to Alfadas's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I definitely agree about the more serious level sort of thing. While its likely to never happen, it'd be nice if LEGO made a theme more exclusive for AFOLs. Sure, they release larger sets with more complex builds, and make an effort to accommodate the wants of the AFOLs while still staying within sight of their main target market, but I'd like to see LEGO to branch off and develop two or three small theme that serve exclusively to the AFOL market. They could make small waves of things the AFOLs would really like, and include things that are a little more adult than what they usually do. These sets could be only available for purchase on the LEGO site, and perhaps even be put in a special AFOl section of the site where you must sign into to access. But this will likely never happen. Just an amazing fantasy, I guess. -
Would you like the Vikings theme to return?
Fives replied to Alfadas's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Well, unfortunately my art skills are complete crap. I attempted some sketches of the ideas I have in my head, but it just didn't translate well. However, I have done some thinking in regards to the factions of this dream Vikings theme. Rather than have three factions based on three different hair colours, I decided to make it two factions with similar traits to other LEGO Castle factions, but without making it too cartoony or colourful and childish. In the end, I want this theme to be appealing to both children and adults, but more so adults. So, these are the two families who would be the leaders of the factions: The Falkvor Clan: Good Guys Weland - the patriarch of the family. Aged somewhere in his early thirties, he would sport a mohawk/ponytail style hair cut, much the same as Ragnar Lothbrok's from the History Channel's show Vikings. Here is an image for reference: http://www.history.com/s3static/video-thumbnails/AETN-History_VMS/194/263/History_Vikings_BTS_Hair_Design_SF_HD_still_624x352.jpg His hair would be the same colour as Hawkeye's, but the hair style would obviously require a new mold. He would wield a sword and shield. Freya - Weland's wife. Roughly in her late twenties, she would require a special hair mold as well. Pretty much Lagertha Lothbrok's hair from the Vikings show as well. http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/ce/06/69/ce0669506af07084a73f461cfcd41888.jpg Her hair would be the buttercup yellow colour that Legolas has. She would wield and spear and shield. Rotland - their son. About eleven years old, he would have the swoopy Ron Weasley hair in tan. He would have short legs and wield a small axe. I pretty sure its extremely obvious that much of the influence for Weland and Freya is from the Vikings show. Those two characters from the show would make awesome figs. Throgessen Clan: Bad Guys Balmung - an older warrior, roughly in his sixties. He would have a bald head and have Vitruvius's beard in dark grey. He would also have one missing eye that is scarred, making it look as if its closed and swollen. He would wield a long hafted two-headed battle axe, and just be a brute in general. Maeva - the daughter of Balmung, and a fierce warrior herself. She would be roughly in her late thirties, and have Vitruvius's hair in black with the headband in dark brown. She would wield two daggers (perhaps a new mold). Volsung - Maeva's son, and Balmung's grandson. He would be in his early twenties, have the Elizabeth Swan hair in black, and wield a short hafted single-headed battle axe and a shield. I kind of imagine a Khal Drogo-esque character: very tough, yet clever. I also have ideas for a few other new molds that would be really cool. Updated Viking helmet - not necessarily a replacement for the current one, but an alternative choice. This helmet could have a face similar to this: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KSvbWhWtALU/T91aoFT0UsI/AAAAAAAAAmY/HfqKxYwxPHc/s320/Beowulf.jpg It would also have the holes on the sides so horns could be attached, and would have shoulder length hair draped from the back. Two variants could be available: helm in dark pearl grey with light brown hair, and helm in light pearl grey with dark brown hair. Fur shoulders - basically a piece that would fit around the neck, much like a suit of armour, that would give the illusion of fur lining the top of a cape. It wouldn't be compatible with the haired helmet, but could work with most short hair and the existing Viking helm. Other than that, there wouldn't need to be any new pieces. Essentially it would just be the two main heroes' hair pieces and some new accessories that could possibly have wider application elsewhere, or at least throughout more of the theme. I also have some thoughts in regards to the colour schemes of the two factions. Rather than have the classic silver armour and colourful arms or whatever that we usually see in Castle themes, the main build of the clothes worn by the soldiers and heroes should have more browns and earthy tones, with the soldiers be distinguished mostly by the war paint they wear. The Good Guys could mostly wear reddish brown clothes with accents of light tan furs and such printed on to their leather and animal skins. Their war paint would be a pale, robin's egg blue. Other colours used for shirts and sleeves underneath the leathers could be sand blue to accent the lighter blue paint. The Bad Guys could have mostly dark brown leathers and skins, with accents of dark tan furs on their clothes. Their war paint would be a dark green. Like the good team, olive green could be used for civilian clothes worn under the leathers and skins, to accent the paint colour. Each of the named characters would require special prints to distinguish them from the grunts. As for the soldiers, there could be two prints for good soldier torsos and two for bad torsos. These, along with an assortment of existing warrior-like faces and the use of the new helmets, old helmets, and hair could allow for armies that would be less regimented and feel more like a ragtag group of warriors. If someone with good skills in art (or perhaps someone who could make 3D designs of the new pieces, if thats even possible), please let me know. I'd love to perhaps collaborate with someone on making this a more full-fledged idea and perhaps submit it on Cuusoo. -
Because the one dwarf is obviously Dwalin since he sports the same mohawk that he did in the movie, and the other dwarf is the Dori fig with brown hair and beard.
-
There is no Dain in the trailer. Those shots are of young Dwalin and Dori at the Battle of Azanulbizar.

Would you like the Vikings theme to return?
Fives replied to Alfadas's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Yeah, I really liked it on the female Viking. It would be really cool if each faction used different horns for their helmets as well. So let's say there's three factions: Blonde Faction: Ruling family has a father, warrior mother, and son. The horns they wear could be the basic tooth/horn piece we all know so well, as well as wear green war paint. Dark haired Faction: Ruling family has old grandfather elder, stern ruling mother, and an older warrior son. They could use the cow horn for their helmets, and wear red war paint. Redhead Faction: Ruling family has father, nurturing mother, and warrior daughter (kinda like Brave). Their helmets use the newer horns introduced in the Lone Ranger theme, and wear blue war paint. I'm actually getting really into this idea, so I'm gonna do some rough sketches and write some set ideas and return to this thread in a bit.
