  1. 1x6 bricks went up a similar amount (used to be ~20-25 cents I think and now 35 cents each). I'm really kicking myself now for not ensuring I ordered all the 1x6 and 1x8 I needed for Green Grocer at the time as well. (I was primarily focused on CC). Now I may have to turn solely to BL. For what is essentially basic bricks its a shame. I don't see how TLG can justify 35 cents for a 1x6 brick and 40 cents for a 1x8 brick. It would take their replacement parts business to dry up for them to even notice (customer backlash) and even then they probably wouldn't even care.
  2. Buy set # 7124. Problem solved.
  3. Last night's mistake was a bizarre one. The part I had ordered was x40 light bley cheese slopes (for GG). What I actually received were x40 black Technic 2M beams (aka liftarm 1x2 thick). The part #s aren't even remotely close. I'm eager to start building Cafe Corner, and I could probably at least start with the tile work and general footprint on the baseplate, but I wouldn't get very far because the 1x8 light bley bricks are one of the items in that PAB order I'm still waiting for so I wouldn't get very far up the walls. Note: that PAB order was placed BEFORE this recent bloody price increase. I only paid 25 cents per 1x8 brick and I think they're 40 cents on PAB now (and even more via BnP!).
  4. I too am awaiting just one order to complete CC, and its a PAB order. (The BnP orders seem to come quicker). I have not received "extra" items in any PAB or BnP order so far. However I have experience two BnP orders in a row that had a mistake. One was short one item and the one I opened and checked last night had a completely different part for one lot, despite the invoice picture and description being correct. Back on the phone again today. sigh...
  5. I bought two CITY sets recently: The 4432 Garbage Truck and 60017 Flatbed Truck. The garbage truck set comes with one male and one female garbage collection worker. You decide which one drives the truck and which one rides on the back. For the flatbed truck set, the truck driver is male and car owner is female. The lady appears to be dressed in some kind of business casual/semi-casual and has a briefcase. Anyway, that's just a sampling of two recent sets, and I think that bodes well for the line.
  6. I get it now. I just built my 4954 Model Town House set again recently and noticed it has that older version of the window, same as Market Street. It's too bad those are no longer available at reasonable prices. Not a huge deal but the difference between the 6556 and 60594 will alter the look of a finished model, slightly. Similarly to how on Green Grocer if you replace the original 1x2x3 train windows (4035) with regular 1x2x3 windows (60593). Not a deal breaker, but noticeable. Geez, between the 6556, the 4035 and the 4132 (CC's top storey 2x4x3 frames), what the heck is with TLG retiring so many window parts?? Common LEGO group, these are WINDOWS!!.... a fairly common architectural and universal building element. I just don't understand this decision.
  7. Well, I got another one of my BnP orders in the mail yesterday and there was an unexpected part substitution, and it's not one that I haven't noticed anyone else in this thread mentioning before. The white antennas (x2) which are used as umbrella stands for the outdoor tables. What I received were the flat-top variant, not the original rounded-tip style. Grrr... I'm going to be phoning to inquire.
  8. i was hoping more of my orders would be trickling in. I lucked out on monday with lots of parcels, but I'm still missing a few key lots needed to start building the ground floor of CC, so i will continue to wait. I was told initially that the 80mm hoses were OOS when I placed one of my orders, so a couple days later I called to cancel them and order 120mm instead. Well they didn't cancel and now i have 120mm and 80mm coming in the mail. Oh well.
  9. I'm curious how market street would look with those curved fence pieces in white for the 2nd and 3rd storey balconies (I'm referring to the piece used on Grand Emporium in Black # 30056 Fence Spindled 4 x 4 x 2 Quarter Round).
  10. In the specific case of the 1x2x3 white panels, I'm curious how this impacts Pet Shop. According to the bricklink inventory, that set which is 2011 has x2 of the 2362(b) panels. But for that set, BnP is also showing 87544 (the one with side supports) in the Pet Shop set inventory, just like in the CC inventory. If you were to buy a Pet Shop set today off the shelf which part is going to be in your set, 2362 or 87544? Kinda crappy that they may have discontinued a part that's in a still-in-production set... you'd be S-O-L for a replacement from TLG.
  11. Maybe I'll call my local store and ask. That would be crappy if I can't return those pieces. 23 cents x 20 is almost $5. Wasted. Thanks. My wife would kill me if she knew how much I was spending right now... And congrats on your haul. As I mentioned in an earlier post I need to do some work to figure out where I'm at now, I've just been overwhelmed with so many simultaneous orders. But I'll eventually be able to figure out % complete, and maybe even relative cost.
  12. Well, I got the first batch of orders in the mail last night. Woohoo.... loot!! 1 of my BnP orders and 3 BL orders. And unfortunately I'm going to have to revise my list above. I didn't realize but I fell trap to those white 1x2x3 panels (x20) that are used as 2nd storey "windows" on CC. The ones Lego sent me are the version with the side-supports. Dang it. As was mentioned several pages back, I don't think they will look right... the opening will probably be too narrow. I should've paid more attention to the part #. I ordered from within the CC set inventory so I guess I assumed the correct part # was in there. Nope. Does anyone know if it's possible to make a return in-store for a parts order (assuming you have a local Lego Brand store. I happen to, luckily). In the meantime, I guess I'm going to have to do the retro-fit with the regular 1x2x3 window frames. Hi Wodanis, thanks for posting the pics. Do you happen to have a more direct head-on view of the side door? In my orders I got the dark blue 1x2x8 arch, but I believe it's the "new" mold. I notice on the underside there is a gusset/support at the halfway point (if that makes sense). I don't know if that's different from the original mold or not, but not having built CC yet I wonder if it will interfere at all with how those bley 1x2 arch pieces attach underneath.
  13. Thread bump. I just built this set the other day and love it. I too was wondering how feasible it would be to motorize the rotor function. Has anyone done it successfully?
  14. That's not too shabby. I'm going to have a tough time figuring out costs. I was finishing up bricklinking 4956 House , when I started this latest endeavour, and have been buying for CC, GG, and MS cocurrently (in that order of priority). I had so many orders placed it got overwhelming and I need to update my spreadsheets to see where I'm at. I'm pretty much done CC, but I have to see where I'm at on GG & MS. Hopefully by grabbing parts for 2 or 3 of those modular sets at the same time, that saves me some money in the long run. For my CC, I had to omit/substitute the following: light bley turntable bases: I'm going to have to use either white or black. I'll see what works better when I actually build it. the five top story windows: when with the alternate parts mentioned prior, w/ the half panes. garage can: bought a dark bley one, might still try to get a light bley one ($$). the reddish brown minifig hair: the only minifig piece I'm still missing ($$) 80mm hose, like others BnP is sending me longer ones (120mm) that I'll cut to length - no biggie at all the white skiis are the newer piece the light bley (right) door: I bought several used ones in light grey (cheaper), hopefully they're in decent shape. I needed three anyway, one for CC, one for MS and one for 4956. CC will get the best one. the black grated door: I will either borrow the one i have from Building Bonanza, or I have a black framed version of the above mentioned door. Or I might still try to buy another one some day. (That's all I can think off off the top of my head for CC, I think everything else I was able to get to my satisfaction, or the some newer part updates are not even worth mentioning). For GG, I spurged for those damn 1x2 grooved bricks (my wallet weeps), but like others went with a mix of 1x2, 1x4 and 1x6 sand green in lieu of 1x8. I also have to forego those pesking 1x2x3 white train windows and went with standard ones instead. For those blue arches, I will probably substitute a different color -- haven't bought those yet For MS, which is the set I've acquired the least overall parts for yet, I got some used light grey hoses for the balconies, but I might look at alternate designs (different fence/railing pieces) to retain the white look, rather than alternate colors.
  15. ^ And I didn't realize the first three all got retired within such close proximity to each other.
  16. The jump from 25 to 40 cents is a massive jump in price. In my most recent holiday PaB box I filled last week, I grabbed 27 1x8 white bricks in that batch (efficiently packed, so they didn't take up that much space). Hard to imagine that that alone is now worth $10.80 bought separately. Ridiculous.
  17. Thanks for the suggestion. My wife struck out at Hamleys (the one downtown London). No series 4. Any other suggestions?
  18. Wow, I'm a little behind on this thread right now. I'll have to catch up with some of the above posts over the last page or two. You guys are enablers!! I started on this project too a couple weeks ago thanks to this thread. I've got 6 BL orders, 3 BnP and 1 PaB orders all in the mail on the way simultaneously. (It's going to be a nasty credit card bill next month). CC will be darn near complete, GG I'll have most of the critical components, and MS maybe 1/4-1/3 the way there. Anyway, one thing I wanted to mention. I happened to be checking some Part #s on the PaB site today and it looks like TLG just jacked some prices up. Has anyone else noticed? Specifically the price of 1x8 bricks. I ordered a bunch of 1x8 bricks in tan, light bley, and reddish-brown recently and I'm pretty sure they were listed at 25 cents each at that time (vs. 51 cents on BnP). When I looked today on PaB, they came up as 40 cents!! WTH - ouch!! 1x6 bricks look to also have have increased. They are 35 cents (don't recall what they were previously). If you're ordering bulk bricks for a project that price increase alone could increase one's cost considerably.
  19. I just got this set recently (yes, I got it "on sale") and built it a few nights ago. I think this is an awesome little set. I never owned the previous garbage truck that has been referred to, but I did have my eye on that one back in the day too. This truck was a fun little build and will look great on display on my modular street. The parts assortment in this set is so good that I really wish I'd picked up at least a 2nd copy if not more (while that sale was on). I look forward to getting some more of these smaller city vehicles (the fuel tanker, the fire truck, etc.). BTW, since the time this review was original done, has there been a more widespread use of that "bright green" color?
  20. Whether you could is one thing. But whether you SHOULD... that's up to your own moral compass to decide.
  21. I hope this is the right section to post this. My wife is going to be in London next week on business and I was just wondering if the three Series 4 Planet sets and the Hoth board game set can still be found at local retail. (Harrod's? brand stores? etc.) I noticed all those items are listed as sold out on the UK LEGO Shop at Home page, but I'm just hoping maybe there's a chance she can pick any of these up for me while there. Please let me know if you think these can still be found, and where best to look. I'm not exactly sure where in London she'll be, other than "down town" (I know that's vague given the size of the city). But she'll be there for several days with some time to sightsee and shop. Thanks.
  22. Did anyone mention yet in this thread the issue of 2x10 reddish-brown bricks? (you need 2 for CC). Check the price on BL. How's that for a laugh? (And yes, I checked PAB and BnP, none available). It's not a "crucial" part thankfully. You could easily substitute a combination of 2x4 and 2x6, or 2x6 and 2x3s, 2x8 + 2x2, etc. I just can't believe a part that most would consider a BASIC BRICK is so rare and expensive.
  23. They are a currently stocked part through BnP, because of Pet Shop most likely. They were 61 cents CDN each (element ID: 4623597, instead of 4541382). That's not chump change considering the quantity CC requires (x36), but still cheaper than the cheapest BL seller I could find that had 36 or more in stock.
  24. ^ What part number are you using for that, and has it changed from the original part in Cafe Corner? I was on the phone placing a BnP order on the weekend I was told that part in that color was discontinued/retired and no replacement came up, just alternate colors (black, etc.). (I had element ID: 4258479, Design ID: 3680.) I'd really like to get that part, but it's just not economically viable with the current BL prices. There's no way I'd pay what's being asked for those original window frames. (Element ID: 4218638, design ID: 4132) I don't know if it's going to "work" (with the 4133 window inserts), but I decided to try an alternate part (design ID: 60598), which were much more readily available and cheaper on BL. If that doesn't work, then I'll consider using 1x4x3 window frames and maybe double them up for the depth.
  25. Love it! My vote for post of the day! :)
