Nice start, Sonic. Interesting solution for the wheels. Do they spin freely and stay aligned or is it a cosmetic design? I've been toying with some ideas for a narrow gauge train to run on my Alien Mothership tracks so it will be really interesting to see what you come up with. I'll be trying to work out some kind of motorised solution so my first effort will likely be an ugly prototype with PF bits everywhere. Good luck with your build. :classic:

Nice plumber's van, LT. Love the stickers. *LOL* "Uncle Owen, this drain's got a busted floatervator." "Help me Obi Wan Commode, you're my only hope." "Always two there are. No more, no less. A Master and the bloke who gets the dirty jobs." Brick on, crack on. :classic:

Great fire engine design. Looking forward to seeing it in the brick. Studs Not On Top. :classic:

Final result looks great, -R8-. Nice job. :classic:

Top job, Allan. Totally convincing and instantly recognisable as Mac. It shows they didn't really all need those groovy new printed pieces (not that I don't like them). :classic:

Top work, Blake. You've captured the sense of movement and power of the storm really well. Nice one. :classic:

Nice one, peterab. I enjoyed seeing this at BrickExpo, top job. :classic:

I would definitely buy this if it was available. Needs to be priced fairly though (ie close to US RRP not 50-100% more) or I will only buy when on special or import from foreign stores. :classic:

Great job, Legoman. A fine tribute. Nice cheese-work on the round window. :classic:

Nice one, BTD. In a similar vein, how about Tracy Island complete with Thunderbirds 1, 2 and 3: - cool pilot boarding mechanisms - motorized pod selector for TB2 - launch lift and moving launchpad pool for TB1 - tilting palm trees and blast deflector for TB2 - custom minifigs for all the players - throw in Lady Penelope's six wheeler as a bonus F.A.B. :classic:

What current sets are good to stock up pieces?
AussieJimbo replied to youtoo's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've bought plenty of Apple Tree House and Log Cabin sets for parts, moving on now to buying Lighthouses which have lots of useful and interesting pieces. Out of left field, I got a tip the other day on the piece value of the Harry Potter board game. It's got lots of useful parts and with a current special I picked 3 for 2 and ended up with about 1000 pieces for $100 which is pretty good by Aussie standards. US buyers would get better value, for example ThinkGeek currently has a buy one get 50% off on their very limited Lego range which does include the games, so you can get two sets (~660 pieces) for $US45 plus delivery. (They won't ship to Oz though). :classic: -
Nice job, jaster. The skeleton frame is an effective lightweight solution and looks good. :classic:

Nice update, LT. It there a picnic area somewhere for me to BBQ some steaks and a few mystery bags? :classic:

Great looking ship. Love the nice clean brick built bow, the smoke looks great too. Top job. :classic: -
Doh! Oh well, thanks for letting me know. :classic:

That's a great price (EU150 = $AU205) but... "temporarily not available online" ...so can't see if it will ship to Oz yet. http://www.intertoys.nl/speelgoed/lego-66405-lego-city-superpack-4-in-1-838810.html?PathCatalog=nl_sp_lego_alles&Refinement_Prijs=Vanaf-100-euro :classic:

"But the good thing is that the software that comes with the cutter will let you print designs to a normal ink jet printer and then you put the paper in the cutter and the software will cut the design off for you." That is a really useful feature. Thanks for the info. :classic:

Ditto, thanks again dotmike. 1 only left at Myer Tuggeranong. Can confirm sale is on until Sept 11. Thought about also getting 2 x Pharoes Pyramid + the main Heroica game for $80 total but pieces not so compelling and budget already spent. PS: The other good thing about buying games for pieces is the nice useful boxes they come in. :classic: -

Thanks for the tip, dotmike. Don't have a $20 discount but that would still be pretty useful haul of parts for $100. Might head out and see if I can find a few sets. :classic: -
Top job on the loco, Stefanwest. Kudos to Dan for the original design, looks great in this livery you've chosen. The vinyl decals give a very nice finish. It's a great solution to the difficulty of getting white sticker work done. I'm guessing you can't print on them easily given that you have to apply then first and then peel off the backing. Do you think that you could pint details if you first applied the vinyl cut-outs (maybe something not as complex as individual lettering) to a temporary substrate and passed them through an inkjet printer? Would the ink stick to the vinyl? How much does a basic cutting rig set you back? :classic:

Given the recent release of the red cargo train, I reckon the next train set will have to be a new passenger train, perhaps with a more American look as a change from the last couple. Hard to guess at the next exclusive set to follow on from the EN and the Maersk. Something iconic. Maybe a US streamliner like the Hiawatha from the 50's. I'd like to see an engine shed but it would either not be long enough for the Emerald Night or too expensive for the general Lego market. A re-release of the set above is unlikely because the doors are only 8 wide but you need 10 wide for the EN (which is 9 wide at the piston rods) to get inside, aside from it not being long enough to fit inside completely. :classic:

*laugh* That's gold. Personally I welcome critical feedback if it's given in a constructive way. I've learnt heaps since joining EB, mostly through observing some of the great work that gets posted but also from gentle prodding to add extra details to my models and from tips to improve my photography. I lean more to saying nothing about models that don't appeal to me but if I feel there is something helpful to offer I may comment. :classic:

Top work with your train and diorama, Fat Tony. The dinosaur skeleton is a great touch. Good luck in the comp. :classic:
