Personally I'd rather Starter Pack Batman stayed as Starter Pack Batman.

It looks like it could be a Good Dinosaur-Inside Out situation, where the movie in question is overshadowed by a better film released by the same company earlier in the year.

Then what's the point in Excalibur Batman?

Again though I think many of us would only want to see that if you could A: buy the game separately without having to buy a whole new Starter Pack and B: use the NFC figures at least (if not the vehicles and gadgets as well) from years one and two in the game. I wouldn't even care if the year 1/2 Adventure Worlds weren't present so long as you could still use the characters.

Does 'Join forces with Starter Pack Batman' mean that if you play as Batman in the Starter Pack levels, he becomes LEGO Batman voiced by Will Arnett?

Bad idea, unless it releases for Switch, you can buy the game without a starter pack and all Year 1 and 2 characters are compatible with Dimensions 2.
