  1. Does the price goes down if you compare the cost of 4 PF receivers and 4 controllers to 2 sbricks?
  2. Thanks for the detailed response. I meant taking the 42043 apart (and the Backhoe V2) to rebuild your chassis :), not to modify the Merc. After the GMK6400 ai might get addicted to car MOCs.
  3. That looks great, a very stable frame with sturdy suspension! I actually might take my 42043 apart to rebuild the suspension! I don't own the large shock, but it can be tweaked with shorter, yellow shocks.
  4. The tires look great! I'm looking for better tires for the 42030 Volvo loader on the original rims, suggestions are welcome! A bit wider and higher would be excellent.
  5. With larger front tires the swing axle would have to be adjusted quite a bit. The tires are per Jurgen's design in terms of size. Yes, on the actuators all larger gears have been replaced by 12 tooth gears (1:1).
  6. I put 1 large balloon tire inside 1 Power Puller tires; the PP wheels are too soft for this heavy MOC. If you look at the gearing of the frontloader, I replaced the 20 tooth gears with 12 tooth gears. Just a bit slower but the L-motors deliver adequate power.
  7. Got the Power Puller tires! Due to the weight of the MOC I opted for the balloon tire inside the PP tire. I also move the axle 1 stud down for more clearance, and to prevent the tractor from leaning backwards too much. You can also see the different gear combination for lifting and tipping the front bucket due to L-motors feeding into the gearbox.
  8. I've made photos available in the following bricksafe gallery:http://bricksafe.com/pages/emielr/gmk6400 One showing the carrier next to the original 42009 boom, one assembled with an extended 42009 boom, and the final two with the proper boom and OEM counterweight. The expensive counterweights I did not buy and I used a bottle of water instead, close to 500 gr. I also did not like the jerky servo steering and replaced it with an M-motor (underneath the fake V8), geared down extensively to make sure it could turn 4 of the axles.
  9. Thanks Kladovec for sharing your creation, extremely compact. I might give a similar modification a try if I have time soon.
  10. You might be right. However I was inspecting this MOC (http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=520602) and it seems a AA box does fit here. I also like the arm that can move sideways. Perhaps both MOCs can be combined into a Backhoe V2.5?
  11. I'll do a check tomorrow with the AA battery box, but it will be a tight fit if any. The steering axle is located right below the box and the hood is directly above.
  12. Wow, these look great! Going to try the PP tires soon on my Backhoe V2 and if I'm still not satisfied I know what to do!
  13. Sure! I'll post some higher resolution pictures once my brickshelf gallery is up and running.
  14. Hi there! I've picked up Lego over a year ago again when I bought myself the 42009 set (as a present). The set before that crane was the 8880 Super Car back in 1994, almost 21 years ago. I own the Test Car, Car Chassis, Robot, original Control Center and more of the original brick sets. I did buy the 8479 Barcode truck as a X-mas present in '97 but had not actually used it since. The excellent GMK 6400 MOC on EuroBricks triggered me and I manage to buy enough parts - and found enough time - to make a good copy of that crane (without suspension). I'll post photos of the beast later once my brickself account is good. To date I did construct the following MOCs: 42009 ultimate, 42009 Model D Mr. Tekneex, 42009 Model C Designer Han, GMK6400 (without suspension) and Jurgen's Backhoe V2. I already bought 42009 Model C and 42030 Model C Mr. Tekneex, and the Articulated Hauler by Designer Han. When I have enough time - and money - I will also have a go at Jurgen's Manitou Telehandler although in different colors. Thanks for having me here :)! 16. I'm not really into crawler cranes, but all these mods - including Riley-NZL's - make it a good MOC project. I will try to get my hands on one first half of this year if the price is right.
  17. This is a fantastic model and if you ask me, it could have been the official B model for the 42009 out of the box. I found that raising the bed is quite a strain on the L-motor and I had to replace the batteries to get it going again. Having said that - purchase the BI and give this a MOC a go! (I yet have to build the flatbed model C - for that I need to take apart Designer Han's model C soon!).
  18. I modified the jerky servo steering as described in this forum topic with small actuators. I used a L-motor instead of a M version and it performs quite good! I had to rip the motor out to finish my modified Backhoe V2 just last week - it is worth it - and have received another one this week so I can have both models assembled at the same time. The Backhoe (with 42030 rims + balloon tires) looks pretty good nex to the 42030 and 42043 pretty good although most likely not to the exact scale: it is a nice combination altogether.
  19. I had a go at it last year and I liked building this mammoth. Because of the sheer weight (and the lack of shock absorbers and fitting wheel hubs) I opted for the carrier without suspension. I tried the extended 42009 boom but did not like it and had to obtain quite a few parts via bricklink to finish the extended boom. The counterweight prices were not to my liking and used a bottle of water (1/2 l.) which actually worked quite well. I also replaced the servo steering motors with a heavily geared down M-motor as I did not like the jerky steering. I had to adjust the model as a result, as another axle had to go almost full length to accommodate the single motor steering (instead of 2 servo motors). Attached are no pictures at this time - I'll add these once they are uploaded to brickshelf.
  20. I find the steering quite stiff and hard to operate. Any suggestions on how to improve? Did anyone consider improvements like LPEpower did for the Unimog a while back?
  21. I bought Mr. Tekneex instructions for the car transporter and flatbed. The transporter is huge! Instructions are perfect and clear. I wanted to give the flatbed a try but got distracted by designer Han's crane (see photo). Still want to build the flatbed by the way but decided to go for Jurgen's Backhoe V2. If you have the parts or are willing to obtain them I would go for the 42009 ultimate. I did that first, bought sbricks as well and enjoyed the enhanced set quite a bit. After that I went for the GMK6400, but that did require another significant investment.
  22. I purchased these instructions and must say, this MOC is really nice! It is a rather large truck. I noticed mine had issues raising the upper part after a while. After changing the batteries it worked all fine again. Unfortunately I had to take it apart to start with Designer Han's alternative 42009 MOC. Have yet to build the flatbed and the 42030 model C too!
  23. Hi there! I've picked up Lego over a year ago, when I bought myself the 42009 set. The set before that crane was the 8880 Super Car back in 1994. The excellent GMK 6400 MOC on EuroBricks triggered me and I bought enough parts to make a good copy of that crane (without suspension). I'll post photos of the beast later. This time I gave Jurgen's Backhoe V2 a try with sbricks. Jurgen's instructions are superb and it is a very nice MOC. The Power Puller wheels are too expensive for me right now and I could still do with yellow rims for the front wheels too. I did lower the back axle a bit for the balloon wheels to fit in order not to make the backhoe lean over too much. I've also used wheel hubs for all wheels as I had these lying around. Instead of 2 M-motors to feed into the gearbox I used 2 L-motors as suggested in this forum topic. Power is adequate and gearing after the gearbox had to be adapted slightly as a keen observer might notice in the pictures below. The little red liftarms on both sides (above the M-motors) indicate the position of the gearbox shifter. More photos are available in this bricksafe gallery: http://bricksafe.com/pages/emielr/backhoe-v2
  24. Hi there. I just finished the construction of MrTekneex model D (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=117505) and love the MOC. Just before I gave the GMK6400 a try after ordering a lot of additional parts. Especially the turntable reaches the lego limit. A 0.5 liter bottle of water as counter weight proved quite good actually. The manual was bought from MrTekneex obviously! I did buy his model C instructions a while back too but did not yet have the opportunity to build the model. Any chance we'll see instructions from this tow truck here too?
