Thanks a lot for your quick responses - that's why you ask the Pros :) I didn't even know about the "Pat Pend" era. So I looked at other roof parts that I had bought from the same seller (these were labeled as "new"). Indeed I found out that some of them had the "rougher" look. A look inside clearly showed the "Pat Pend" text - here for example on a "Black Slope 45 2 x 4". However, the brick in question ("Black Slope 45 2 x 4 Double") is an interesting special case. Where the "Pat Pend" text is imprinted on the other bricks it looks like the casting mould of this brick was modified so that the text can't be read anymore. Perhaps these bricks are from some kind of transition period where the patent was no longer pending.

Hi everybody. I hope this is the right place to post this. I've recently (and for the first time) ordered a large quantity of bricks via bricklink to build a custom modular building. I bought all of the bricks in new condition - only one type of brick was not available so I ordered it in used condition. This brick is Bricklink part 3041 - "Black Slope 45 2 x 4 Double". When I had a closer look at these bricks I noticed that the surface texture of some of them was rougher than normal (with normal I refer to the typical texture of sloped LEGO bricks). Here is a comparison of the bricks as seen from above. I was curious so I turned the bricks around and found out that the brick with the rougher texture didn't have a LEGO logo impressed anywhere. In the finished model you can clearly see that the rough bricks on top of the roof stand out. Now my question to you LEGO experts: what's you opinion on these bricks? Do you think they are fake? Thanks a lot, Stefan

eBay user sells instructions for other builder's MOCs
TheMagician replied to Badsneaker's topic in LEGO Town
I share Legoldt's point of view - as an "uncreative" AFOL it's great to have instructions to beautiful MOCs available to build. I also think the time that someone spends on creating these instructions can be valued by paying them money. On the other hand it's clear that at least the same amount of time went into creating the model itself and the instruction builder indirectly profits from the efforts the other person put into developing the idea/design. So I'm a bit torn about this issue: why don't more MOCers allow people to create instructions for their models so they can share the profit? From what I know there are only a hand full of websites devoted to custom building instructions whereas the forums here are full with fantastic creations - it should be possible to set up a team of Eurobricks members who MOCers can ask to create building instructions for their model. That way the money (if they want to take money for it) could be split between the creators of the instructions and the desginer of the MOC. On a side note: of course I find it highly immoral what this Ebay seller did/does - but is it also illegal? (i.e. on what basis did you have his listings removed? Do you have copyright for your designs?) -

Wow! A beautiful building - I've always hoped for LEGO to release a modular building with terraced gardens ... they couldn't do better than this :) Fantastic work!
-
After having a closer look at both models it seems to me that there really was some copying going on. Of course, if you have two models that try to depict one common original building there are going to be similarities but here there are too many small construction details which could have been done differently but are identical in both models. However, it wouldn't be the first time that TLG has asked fans whether they can use parts of their designs - the most recent case I can remember is 10212 - the Imperial Shuttle from Star Wars.

Hi everybody, I found this video on a German blog called www.netbooknews.de. I'm pretty sure this is not an official project of Intel in cooperation with TLC but rather a tech demo for augmented reality technology. Still, it's fun to watch.

This is incredible! That must have been so much work for you. I would've loved the official Town Hall set to look more like this but I totally agree with your arguments regarding the base plate - a 32x32 Town Hall was bound to look squished and out of proportion. I especially love the tall columns ... and everything else :)

Are we really sure that the release date is February 1st? 10 days from now and still no official press release - isn't that rather anusual?
-
I guess he wants to use the number to try and download the instructions from LEGO's website.
-
I absolutely agree. The homemade pictures of the set look way better than the ones one the box. I'm starting to like it

First thing I thought about as well. I looked around to find some reference BTTF town halls done in LEGO. One has already been posted here. Another great one I found is this: http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6230/6328692193_65532ae651_b.jpg The link to the Flickr set of the complete Town Square of Hill Valley from BTTF 2 can be found HERE!

The fact that the box is already at the toy store really hints at the release date being February 1st. I didn't expect to see this year's modular so early on. Please tell us more about what you saw on the box. Any other intersting details that you've noticed?

First of all, it's great to finally see pictures of the new modular! Thanks for that The pictures of the minifigs look great with all the accessories. The clock piece looks nice, too. However, there are also a few things that I don't like about the building. Someone has mentioned it before and I have to agree that the front looks very flat. Also the white entrance area with the columns somehow looks squished in relation to the height of the building. I had preferred it to look more like Jamie's original version which has more depth to it: I guess though that the building would have to be wider to accomodate a larger entrance area. Also I'm not too fond of the frame around the clock and the croissants in the coat of arms. Anyway, when the first pictures of the petshop were released I wasn't too excited either and now I love the buildings. I hope the rumours of an elevator turn out to be true. I'm looking forward to the interiour pics.
-
I think that the town hall will be wider than usual but certainly "only" 32 deep. Otherwise the building would be way too large and also people couldn't store the modulars next to each other in one nice row.
-
The higher piece count is definitely great news. Something tells me that we'll get a 32 wide building which extends a little bit further into the sidewalk that the other buildings have so far, perhaps with broad stairs.

Chili's Restaurant 2.0 and Pet shop alternative model
TheMagician replied to brickcitydepot's topic in LEGO Town
This is a great model. Very well done. I'd love to buy the instructions from your webpage but am a bit hesistant because I have no idea how much I'd have to pay for all the bricks I need. I saw that you get a part list when you buy the instructions but it would be nice to know in advance. -
Two small remarks about the pet shop. First, I think it's nice that the manual came in an extra bag with a piece of cardboard in it to prevent dog-ears. And did anybody else notice that all official photos of the brown apartment building show flowers on the balcony above the bay window but the instructions don't have these flowers in them?
-
^^Feel free to do so

Right now it would almost be to spoil the fun if we had a picture of the set I totally agree. I've just decided that I won't look for pictures of this set until it is released. Lego did such a good job at keeping this a secret that I don't want to spoil the surprise now. I'll order fom Lego Shop at Home as soon as they have it in stock.

Very good news! Let's hope that sale via lego.com starts around the same date. I want to get mine here in Germany
