Star wars wikia has multiple y wing variants with either a gunner or a fixed set of ion cannons and no gunner. There's even references to 5 seater models and long range scout versions (even 4 engine models in games)

I still love the whining about price. Yes it's inflation since 08 amd yes a few extra pieces add to it but everyone seems to have missed a big part of it. Disney. They want to make money. They will be slugging Lego a hefty brand premium. The reason the disney castle isn't as expensive is that the pieces are smaller/lighter and the castle is Disney's own intellectual property. They didn't pay $4b for the rights to it. Ok let's move on now...

All depends on your income and the occasion and also on the child. Many parents are NOT buying expensive smart phones for pre teens to avoid issues with what smart phones can do (internet, cameras and social media etc) I don't see $500 as being a lot of money and I also wouldn't want a young child being in posession of an upmarket smart phone. I would easily buy a top end lego set for a 10-12 year old. I mean the box does have 12+ on it...

Obviously PARENTS will be buying them for 12 year olds.

Haha so many pages of crying. AFOLS account for a TINY amount of lego sales. Almost every set Lego has EVER made INCLUDING UCS has been aimed at kids and teenagers. Lego have rereleased and slightly updated the DS. They will sell 98% of these to 12 year olds. Get over it and be happy with what it is. If you're like me and have the ability to pick and choose whatever Lego you want to buy, exercise this right and don't buy it if you don't like it. I don't love it but will just buy it anyway because it will look cool in my man cave. I won't be tearing up because Luke's hair isn't quite right. It's a toy for a kid, and the kids won't give a crap and Lego's profit margins will be just fine.

Could we ever see a remake of these UCS sets
Lunchietey replied to Distorted Vision's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Sorry to revive a thread that has been dormant a few days... Some comments have been made about Lego making 'smaller' UCS sets but apart from no Falcon or SSD sets the actual UCS vehicles are rather good I think. The new UCS slave 1 is by far the best version so far and in direct personal comparison, I think the new Red 5 Xwing is also excellent. The UCS tie is physically also quite a big ship (although it's effectively two black plates and a ball haha). I am quite excited by the chance of a new Snow Speeder and ABSOLUTELY praying for a new Falcon. I am positive that TLG will do a great job in any new ship releases either previously unreleased or rereleased. Oh and I don't think large playsets should be UCS branded. The C stands for 'Collector' which kind of hints at being a model more than a playset. I wouldn't even consider a pkayset style UCS but I'm sure TLG are selling plenty. -
Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here

The AT-AT is kinda cute, the little AT-AT Mother/puppy scenes are pretty funny too. The snowspeeder is fairly proportionally accurate for a microfighter, you could almost use it(with a few small mods to finish the canopy) to make a little scene with a UCS AT-AT :) -
I hope with all this hype we don't get disappointed by the actual movie...Jar Jar style haha.

Are you Mr Stevens? No I'm Darth Vader. Whos this? Oh he's Jeff Vader Hahaha classic Oh and great display

I could be wrong of course :) But the poster above has all the same features as the TLG release. Maybe the black ship is for the new 'emperor' of the FO?
-
I vote for there being two different ships. A certain persons 'command shuttle' has lower wings that extend well below the main fuselage of the ship. The V-Winged ship in the trailer seems to be a VERY large ship, significantly bigger than the transports(and something like a Tiderium sized ship) and the wings do not appear to extend below the main hull at all. I think they are two ships, one much larger than the other, you can see(when you include the other 'tie' shuttle concept art talked above in post 8602 that there is certainly a common design theme amongst some of the newer ships.

I just feel a UCS set is for a collector of that genre to keep and display(which is what most collectors would do with their collection) not something to really play with. I see UCS as the far extreme of lego junior or Duplo. It's just my opinion but a 'playset' style set seems more for 'kids' and not so much an 'ultimate' collectors item. If you consider the vehicle UCS sets are not usually built to minifig scale but try to be as scale accurate and detailed as realistically possible as lego pieces allow. A set like an ewok village is just a large scale(and admittedly fairly detailed) kids playset. I just think sets like this 'cheapen' the previous vehicle and character UCS sets.
-
UCS-Ultimate collectors, not ultimate playset in my opinion. Just because it's expensive doesn't make it a UCS set. Just because a car is expensive doen't mean it's a Ferrari

75094 as I can't get a UCS shuttle for less than $1000! Still a good size next to a UCS X-wing though

Review: 75094 Imperial Shuttle Tydirium
Lunchietey replied to JackJonespaw's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Well the curiosity got to me so I just went and bought and assembled a 75094 Yep it's smaller than the UCS version but certainly not small at all. Certainly not a UCS 'quality' build but also stands up well as a man cave display model! Heres a couple of pics in 'flight mode' as it looks small when folded. Stands up quite well next to the red 5 although the roll of paper towels will have to do to hold it haha Definitely going to order some bits and make a UCS style stand and use one of the UCS style stickers from eBay. I think its a pretty good size overall And next to a UCS Tie -

You can't find them that cheap in Aus, it's either from a retail store, an online store(retail PLUS postage) or from a person who collects lego who adds 20% and THEN postage! I can see cheaper sets on eBay(half price) but with ridiculous postage to Aus so I have little choice but pay retail when the sets are on shelves OR pay the huge prices for retired sets. At least the lego shop has free post and whatever their latest bonuses are At least if I don't like it I'll just sell it in 2 years for a profit haha -
You would think there would have even been some "Coming soon! Get ready for September the 4th!" Etc doing the rounds. Yes I live in Australia but there has been absolutely NOTHING at all ANYWHERE. ..? Not even TRU Australia mentions anything. Disney Fail. No hype, no teasers no nothing. Just the odd preview at the movies if you still actually GO to the movies... I would bet the average person, even a lot of star wars fans are almost completely unaware this is even coming.
-
So surprising Disney would act like this... I also vote for the 'It's too late, everyone already knows" team. It's like trying to stop a flood with just one sandbag... Disney will be pressing TLG HARD and I'm SURE TLG do NOT want to damage such a lucrative relationship. I'm also pretty confident the apparent price rise has more to do with Disney's royalties than TLG.

Review: 75094 Imperial Shuttle Tydirium
Lunchietey replied to JackJonespaw's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thanks Lego Fett Think I may pick one up as there's never a guarantee it will be around for ever! There's already scalpers trying to sell them for double the price even though they're still on shelves I'm ok with making a profit but ripping people off is disgusting(although if you're dumb enough to buy overpriced stuff that's still a current and readily available product then I guess it's your own fault ) I'll just put this on its own shelf with another 'mid size' ship each with its own UCS style plaque -

Yeah it's HUGE(the UCS version)! Wouldn't even fit in my cabinets! I'd just like to know what this version would look like next to a UCS X-Wing for example. Was considering building a black UCS style stand and using an eBay replica sticker and displaying it alongside my UCS fighters. Or is it TOO small? -

Great review, very creative! How does this compare size wize to a UCS TIE and X-Wing? I know the UCS Shuttle would be better but I will never pay nearly $1k for a box of lego from a scalper... Would it look noticeably smaller(in flight mode) or fairly close? The UCS version looks MASSIVE! -
What about a Porkins minifigure haha ;) A TFA UCS Millennium Falcon would sell VERY well I am intrigued by the 'pod junker' from TFA, cool 4 engined land transport
-
I just wish I knew what the next vehicle UCS set will be :( I swear I log in twice a day hoping for a TLG leak! Anyone know any details about the 4 engined landspeeder/transport? The 'pod junker' I believe it's called?

Just getting back into Lego as an AFOL in my 30's! Started with all of the Microfighters series 2 Grabbed a 75083 AT-DP walker and realised how much more value there is in bigger sets, Went to Target and picked up a UCS 75095 Tie Fighter which the wife and I built(she loved building it with me and wants more UCS sets for the 'man cave'!) So have just received my confirmation email for my 10240 UCS X-Wing! Now I want SOOOOO many UCS sets!!!!
