  1. Wow, wasn't expecting to see this! I can't wait to get my hands on all of these (especially the Space Marine)! Great review, WhiteFang!
  2. Every PaB section is different. If you visit BrickBuildr.com you can check what each store has, but it is maintained by volunteers so may not be completely up to date.
  3. I think the set that brought me out of the dark ages was 7590 Woody and Buzz to the Rescue. Although some criticized the Toy Story minifigs for not being 'Lego-like', that was the very thing piqued my attention; I could not believe how far minifigs had advanced since I last played with them! The fact that it was a combination of two things I enjoyed in childhood (Lego and Toy Story) only helped. During my dark ages, I received 7620 Indiana Jones Motorcycle Chase as birthday gift (it was more of a 'joke' gift). Looking back, I don't why that set didn't pull me out of my dark ages like 7590 did; I am a big fan of Indiana Jones. Maybe I just wasn't ready.
  4. Well, this only confirms that the mining subtheme will be safe to pass on; this summer, instead of digging up the earth, I will go to Middle Earth! What is noteworthy is the price of 4204 The Mine, which has a Canadian MSRP of $119.99, which at this price point would be regularly be $129.99 (only 20% more than US MSRP instead of 30%!). Still expensive when considering the number of parts, but still nice to see TLC somewhat acknowledge the price disparity . Anybody else notice any cheaper prices in your local currency? It's nice to see the CMFS2 Skier Skis in Yellow in the Advent Calendar, even if they neglected to include proper ski poles. I think a generic Advent Calendar would have been better than a Firefighter one, but what do I know? Thanks for this coverage, Aanchir, but what is the purpose of covering the Dino theme in the next instalment, considering that they have already been on the market for a couple of months?
  5. I kind of feel bad for the Dino theme, it is definitely being overshadowed by Super Heroes, Lord of the Rings and Star Wars; the steeper prices don't help it's popularity. So far, I like a lot of what I see/built, so I hope that Dino gets another wave or two like Atlantis, but I'm not very optimistic. I just built the Dino Defence HQ which has six of them in yellow, which would be a lot more useful in grey/black. If the yellows of this theme were to be replaced by tan/grey/dark green it would be ideal for me, but I suppose that would damper the theme's appeal to the kids?
  6. You just need to put them in hot water. I've never done it, but here's the link. EDIT: Too Slow!
  7. That promotion is from the current TRU flyer, which ends today.
  8. I guess you missed the recommended ages text on every box? And the fact that the AFOL community is bigger than ever? Lego doesn't develop those games in-house; they outsource them to companies like Mindscape, High Voltage and Traveller's Tales. Your opinion that newer games are worse don't jive with the Metacritic scores I've seen. I've played both Lego Island and Racers when I was younger and even I think the newer games are better. I think most people would say that the Harry Potter and Star Wars series are hardly 'throwaway movies' (even the prequel trilogy ). EDIT: Quote tags aren't cooperating, I bolded instead.
  9. Brickset says that I own 780 minifigs! I estimate that I've been out of my dark ages for about 20 months, so that's 1.3 minifigs per day!
  10. I wasn't expecting much out of this project, but it turned out better than I expected. Seems like a great parts pack, and the pieces are printed, not stickered! As long as the Canadian price is reasonable, I will probably pick one up.
  11. This is definitely not part of the modular building series (it has detailed sides and doesn't fit the aesthetic of the modular buildings). I assume it is a D2C set that will be released in late summer, early fall to capitalize on Halloween like Monster Fighters, but it won't be part of the same line. From what I can see, it looks pretty cool!
  12. Watching the video and taking in the high res pics have confirmed for me that this is definitely a set I can't afford to miss; whether I can afford it is another question! Keep in mind that Canadians and Americans do not include sales tax in the price (granted, sales tax in America is quite low or nonexistent in some cases). I know for a fact that I will be buying this from across the border! I was thinking the same thing!
  13. Captain America's Avenging Cycle - I was expecting for the Captain to have Mutt's/Mac McCloud's motorcycle in a new colour, but at least this 'modern' mold bike is in a new colour. I will buy it anyways. Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape - The Truck looks cool, but the minifigs (which are great) are all available in bigger sets. A small variation in Iron Man isn't worth the purchase, IMO. Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout - Jet and Minifigs are nice, but the 'helicarrier' is completely underwhelming. It is annoying that the Hulk is exclusive to this set, but I suppose he will be available in future waves. Quinjet Aerial Battle - This set really doesn't do much for me. I like the minifigs, but not the jet; I hope the other half of the battle is more impressive. Wolverine's Chopper Showdown - Nearly missed this one! I have to say, this one looks pretty cool! The minifigs are great, the chopper looks pretty good and Wolverine gets the motorcycle that Captain America wants. Just so nobody else misses them [1][2] Overall, I can't help but feel a bit disappointed. As someone who missed out on the original Batman theme, I enjoyed the first DC wave more than I like this second Marvel wave.
  14. Jabba's Palace - Don't know if I said it already, but this is a must buy. Would have liked another redesigned Slave Leia, but that would be two Leias in one set. Desert Skiff - I was hoping for a new headpiece for Kithaba, but otherwise it's another buy for me. Gungan Sub - Apart from Amidala, this set doesn't draw me much. Bricklink to the rescue! X-wing Starfighter & Yavin 4 - The X-Wing look identical to 30051. Really? I'm not paying $12.99 for something I already have! Twin-Pod Cloud Car & Bespin - Worth it for Lobot, although the Cloud Car looks a bit awkward to me. AT-ST and Endor - Meh, I'll buy one if I have extra cash left over. Star Wars Adent Calendar 2012 - Contents look uninspired, and now that the US MSRP is $50, I suppose it will cost $65 in Canada? I wish Lego luck with this, as I still see the last advent calendar in stores, 'clearanced' to $35-40 and still not selling! CW/EU sets - Don't know much about these so not that interested. Maybe once we get some reviews out I'll change my mind.
  15. 1. tatertots - 1 4. Dix - 1 9. Solitary Dark - 1 13. Cecilie - 1 27. dede_la_fee - 1 All of these are great, but some of these are completely stunning. Unfortunately, I only have five points to give!
  16. PaB is a great way to top off your order if you are under the free shipping limit (it's a wonder Lego doesn't have some sort of free shipping offer all the time; nearly all online retailers do, including those that sell Lego! ) Some pieces are priced close to Bricklink prices, so it's quite convenient in that regard. I'm looking through PaB right now, and there are a couple of more new items like Ninjago minifig parts and PotC bottle. Oddly, I can't find the wheel for the wheel barrow!
  17. I voted, did you? Vote! Excellent MOC, marshal_banana! This is by far more worthy of a set than Minecraft. I think it's a great game, but I can't see how great the set could be; building blocks for a building game? Out of the top 10 at Cuusoo, I think this has the most potential. As much as I would like to see licences they have on there (Back to the Future, Zelda, etc), I doubt Lego would bother getting the licence for a single one-off set, but who knows?
  18. I picked up a random 37 and managed to get 15/16 figures (I will return the ones I don't want duplicates of). The only one I'm missing is the Roman Soldier. I hope that I missed it because I was unlucky, and not because somebody else went through and bought them all. So far, since Series 3, I have only made one mistake using the feel method (S3 Alien). That's more then a 98.4% success rate!
  19. Oh wow! Lovely! Want want want want! I can't wait to see the interior! Two nitpicks I have is the Figure Skater/Flamenco Dancer hair (I hate it) and the PotC painting (c'mon, give us something new). Obviously, this is a must have for most AFOLs; let's hope that it won't be too expensive! Cue grogall with his high-res pics!
  20. I have to say, quite the disappointment. All of these are Series 3 (not exactly the best series) and for some reason they've got the mummy in there . They even tout the fact that some of the colours are changed as a positive thing, which for the space villain it is, but for the fisherman this is a change for the worse; they've replaced his exclusive dark blue cap with a common black one (and they did the same thing with his fish). Poor show, Lego Company!
  21. Why would you quote the huge images as well? Thanks for the pics, Clone gunner comander jedi, but you do need to resize them. Tutorial Here!
  22. Thanks for the lovely review, SilentMode! I was planning on picking up a couple of Friends sets (to get my hands on the lovely new pieces ) and your review just put this set on the short list. Other than the not-as-cute-as-intended kitten and the pieces in token girly colours (I like new colours, but I can't imagine how I would use them without getting more), I really like this set. The new flower pieces look great, the browns/foilage are quite useful and I think I can live with a couple of mini-dolls (would have been happier with minifigs, though).
  23. Now that I've got my hands on a lovely new digital camera, I would like to join the Reviewers Academy. Can I?
  24. Thanks for the lovely review, WhiteFang! A quick question: if you orient the genie's lamp with the genie's 'tail', it looks like he is coming out of the lamp, right? Could you give us a pic? Overall, I think Series 6 looks great; even the 'repeated' skater is worth getting multiples of. Can't wait to get my hands on these!
  25. After going the first 20 days without winning, I was positive that my luck would fail me for the last couple of days; I was truly shocked when I realised I had won today. Thanks a lot, CopMike! As it turns out, I also just won a contest over at Toys N Bricks as well! With this sort of luck, maybe I should buy a lottery ticket... I'm pretty happy with prize A, but if anybody wants Saesee Tiin or Princess Leia and is willing to give up Shaak Ti, Ki-Adi Mundi or the mystery minifig, please PM me. Thanks!
