New Lego 10223 Kingdoms Joust Exclusive
Zeya replied to I Scream Clone's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Mainly because it's fun to speculate. I like to sometimes figure out if Lego has a story arc going on among their sets. It goes without saying that using your imagination is part of the fun and it can really be whatever you want it to be. More concretely, the figure has the same legs-torso-head combination as the figure from Blacksmith Attack. So it's a reasonable possibility that he is a dragon knight in disguise. Add in the green plume to that too, I suppose. But all the fuss is in wondering what future sets will be. Will kingdoms continue? If it does, will there be a falcon faction? We can "look forward" to these discussions for the next few months until we see the summer lineup. -

Nobody else is weirded out that the forestman's name is "Rob N. Hood"? Have any of those guys ever been assigned names before? This makes me think of the pirate naming thread over in the pirates area of the forum. (Names were pulled from comics and other literature.) -
General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Zeya replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
Very true. There is a bit of apples and oranges. I guess that was my attempt at comparing how I felt putting together the average POTC set versus the average '09 Pirates set. Even thought the Pirates sets were also aimed at roughly the same age demographic, I somehow had more fun putting them together. Instead of some simplistic/repetitive/bland building in PotC, Pirates would have bright cheery animals or a tree or something. Just seemed more creative and happy. Whereas PotC struck me as struggling with the constraints of piece count and matching someone else's vision and design (the movie sets). It could just be me and my nostalgia, or the fact that I was coming out of the dark age at the time and everything seemed fantastic. Oh well. I wish we had more to do than chitchat and gripe, lol. Not enough free time to MOC (but free work time to EB lol). I didn't mean to be too down on the theme by the way. I still need to get a QAR and the Pearl set. I was holding out for Barnes & Noble on the QAR but they screwed me and don't seem to be getting it in stock ever. It's on my Christmas and birthday (mid December) lists. -
I imagine the older figs might in fact become more valuable. If you've got an older batman who looks noticeably different than in the current sets, people will get hungry to buy all the different batman versions. Just like people might pay more for a C-3PO in the slightly different older pearl color, all else being equal. And as for older ones that aren't in new sets (like Doc Ock maybe?), those will probably only increase in price. Just my speculation. I could be wrong.

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread

I agree when it comes to the minifig accessories and such. The sword scabbards are fantastic and really should be on every fig, pretty much. The bottles are great too. The buckets (also in Kingdoms). The heart of Davy Jones is cool. I also like most of the parts (and figs) in the Cannibal Escape set, which I consider to be the set that lives up to its price the best. However, I also feel like the structure design of most sets are disappointing. I guess it's just the money/license constraint and having to match what you saw in the movie scenes. For sets like London Escape and The Mill, I found the buildings to be lacking something. I remember building up The Mill's building in particular and stacking 4 or 5 1x2 bricks on top of another in one step and putting a <insert that tiresome argument> wall panel next to it. That's not compelling building. Most of the 2009 Pirates sets were smaller in piece count than POTC. Or at least they seemed that way. But somehow Pirates just seemed more fun and satisfying to me than POTC. Maybe it's because I knew exactly what I was getting coming into POTC having saw the movies so it lacked some surprise? Or maybe I just couldn't forget the price premium that I paid. -
Yeah, that would be nice. But that set was 5 years ago, now. And I also drool over the pine tree piece with snow on it, which goes for $2USD or more on BL.

I wish I knew of one too. Some forums do a little bit of special work on the back end (server-side) that allows users to interact with the site via Tapatalk. There's a Tapatalk app and I guess it makes it easier to browse and post, allegedly. I haven't used it yet on any forums. And EB isn't set up to make use of that.

Ha, nice. Sorry about that. If there were any in particular that you wanted, let me know. I'm going to want to keep the Pirates ones for sure, but the other one with 20+ figs I'm not too sure about, so let me know and I might be able to give you a fair price on some of them. For example, I could live without the NBA guy, some of the space-oriented ones, and anything where the fig generally looks like a cracked-out supervillain secret agent or whatever. Lol. -

Ha, I wasn't even thinking of any sort of betrothal implications if a woman were to fight in a jousting tournament. In fact, I thought those sort of things were more or less like a big party (except more serious and deadly, you know, medieval). Sort of the same thing as a Ben Hur chariot race or a gladiator melee match. I didn't know there was a betrothal aspect to it. Even so... I would like to meet the person who gets all huffy and up in arms about a female jouster. What a thing to get angry about. Also about the George Martin books. I'm at the end of Game of Thrones right now. Can't wait to get onto the second book! This set does make me think of the jousting scene early on. Speaking of which, nobody got betrothed to anyone in there. I think one or two of the princesses or ladies threw their flowers to the winner or something and generally swooned over the contestants, but nobody got married from it. Maybe the marriage thing is strictly from fairy tales, or that fairy tales just exaggerate the outcome/stakes of a jousting event. Regardless of role, it would be nice to have a female knight of any sort. Classic Pirates has a female pirate in the crew. We all know the rote about the target market, young boys, and how girls have cooties. But if Lego reads this and takes suggestions like some have speculated they do, then... Hi there, TLG. How about a female knight? You could just put her in the next big, expensive exclusive castle/Kingdoms set and I think we would all consider that to be a big selling point. Thanks! -
I'll take the lack of response to this to mean that there's no way to do an automated search of which stores have a sale or promotion going on. That's a shame. I have another similar question though: Is there a way to search for stores that are located within a certain distance of my home address? It would be cool to find local bricklink stores; think of the cost savings on shipping!

I think you're rightโฆ Taking a closer look at the black knight photos. Definitely new: -Armor -Shield -Horse barding Probably new: -Helmet in black. Unless I'm wrong and the lighting is lying and it's really Pearl Dark Gray. Probably old (not new): - Head is probably this one. - Torso is probably this one. I can tell by the one shot where he's running, you can just barely see a bit of the bottom of the print. Definitely old (not new): - Legs are these All thing's considered, it looks like he's the exact fig from Blacksmith Attack ("cas493"), but with different accessories. As in, the same legs, torso, and head. So your imagination can either be that he's the one dragon knight disguising himself as a Lion-friendly faction (falcon knights), or that there's a Walmart of armor suits and the falcon knights shop at the same place the dragon knights do. Or, maybe the guy from the Blacksmith Attack set got taken down by the black falcon knight, who decided to steal his armor (and he just happened to have the same face, maybe his twin brother)! -
For just under $20USD, I got this eBay Lot. I think this was a reasonable price. But for future bidding, I would try and get more of a deal (like 3/4 of this price perhaps). It's 8 forestmen. There's the female with the green corset torso, the one with the open chest and gold pouch torso, three of the red showing, one with blue showing, and the forestman from series 1 of collectible minifigures. They all have a weapon and there are 3 of the shields with the stag on it. I also got another lot of 22 mixed minifigs and 38 accessories for $27USD. I probably overbid on this one. But there are 3 castle guys in there on the top row. They're probably "frankensteins". There are also some shields and castle weapons. Feel free to comment if you think I overbid or if there's something especially cool in there.

I was throwing out some lowball eBay bids, and got a little carried away (but I didn't lose my shirt...I think... ). For $7.99USD including shipping, I got these minifigs: And for $27USD I got a mixed lot of 22 minifigs and 38 accessories. One of the torsos is the redcoat governor's torso. This lot I probably overbid on a little, to be honest. Oh well. -
I had a feeling the release date of November 1st would somehow mean October 1st.

I'm dying to see what prints are under the black knight's armor and helm. He's already pretty unique; I'm gonna guess it's dragon knight printing and a young face (not a child, not an older man). Hmm... Maybe a female knight!? Haha that would be cool. This set is pretty cool. It will be a fun build. I'm not sold on a second set, mostly because of financials. -
I've started perusing the BL forums area. I see people post when their store has a sale or a coupon deal. And that's pretty cool. But I'm wondering if there's a way to search for which stores are having a sale. Maybe there's a way to query which stores have more than 0 sale items available, or something to that effect? Note that I'm not asking about finding a particular item on sale, but rather a good way to find a store that's having an interesting sale going on (e.g. 15% off everything, 20% off all minifigs, etc).

Would that be a confidentiality agreement about specifically Kingdoms/Castle/Fantasy, or for everything in general? Maybe TLG is just doubling down on secrecy, because remember last year when there seemed to be a noticeable crackdown on catalog leaks? Maybe they're just trying to control shenanigans in general. Can you share any other details? (Lol, asking for secret details about the secrecy pact. First rule of fight club...) You can stop reading at this whining paragraph if you want. Pirates and Castle are really the only true themes that I buy (exclusive/"UCS" and CMFs don't count per se). If castle gets the PotC treatment, I might cry big man tears. I miss my little yellow guys and their originality and free spirited design. I don't want more overpriced sets of this-matches-such-and-such-movie-scene at 15ยข/piece. I want at least one of my favorite themes to remain, please.

Cool. I've played all the main AC games. I just finished up the 3rd one a little while back. I like planks coming off the tower. That really feels like the game. And you've done a good job with the minifigs and their accessories. I think an improvement for this MOC would be to tile the ground a bit, if you can. You can use browns and dark bleys mainly. And for the haystack, you could maybe just make it out of 1-wide yellow plates and kind of throw them together randomly. That might look more like a haystack. If that doesn't work, maybe incorporate yellow slopes to give it more of a mound shape.

EB's LDD Relay Community Builds
Zeya replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
After seeing the result of RCB3... I changed whatever vote I used to have there to this: "Town" "More Builders" I've recently built the 3 modulars on the market (Fire Brigade, Grand Emporium, Pet Shop), and while I tend to be a historical theme fan, I've come to appreciate the satisfying builds. I think it would be nice to do a nice neighborhood scene, maybe. But maybe that would be too similar to our castle/MMV street scene? Maybe we could set the season to be autumn or winter to match the upcoming season in the northern hemisphere (sorry Austrailia, etc!) My second choice is Pirates though. Disclaimer: my suggestions don't mean I would lead or necessarily even participate in the next RCB. Although I would love to participate of course... just a matter of being busy or not when it happens. -
Eurobricks' 3rd LDD RCB
Zeya replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Good job, guys! Did you know it's been just over 4 months since this RCB started? But it worked out great! I really feel like all the little space people are hard at work doing something important here. I look forward to the next RCB too. -
This thread got me interested in eBay Lego bidding. I had been avoiding bidding on old stuff on eBay. But I did some searches and threw out a lot of lowball offers, and some not so lowball offers. Now I have like 30 active bids. It'll be fun to see if any of them win, but I seem to be getting outbid left and right pretty quickly. It's fun just to look through photos of pre-loved stuff people have and throw out some bids.

I was at Home Depot (store in the USA), and they had those Stack-On brand cabinets in the section by tools. They were in the tool section at the front-middle part of the store. I imagine you could just use that Amazon link though and it would be the same price or cheaper. I use the similar Akro-Mils cabinets. I like them well enough. My collection is starting to grow though, and I find myself thinking about getting larger storage....

Didn't one of the winter sets have the light brick on a hinge so that the button could be rotated against something to keep it on? Something like this: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=6134 (and its counterpart). Put the light brick on top of that. You can put a technic axle or pin on the light brick's button to make it easier to jam it up against something and keep it on "permanently". If you want to consider methods other than the light brick, I've seen people rigging up their own wires and LEDs and that's quite effective.
