Maybe one or both of us is confused here. But the last time I checked, you don't need to make full minifigures. Instead of legs, torso, head to make up one of your three, you can instead do torso, torso, torso or in your case head, head, head. See what I'm saying? The only thing I'm not sure of is how accessories (sword, shovel etc) and neck accessories (pauldron, cape, scabbard) would factor into that at the register. Because I do remember the lady saying there was a 1 accessory limit per fig, and I don't know if that means you can swap out that one accessory for, say, another head. In summary, I think you can get away with buying 12 heads and that should count. (Because one fig would be legs+torso+head+accessory = 4 pieces multiplied by 3 for 12 total pieces). Yeah, the BAM bin is always swarming with kids. Ha, I bet kids are smuggling parts out in their little pockets all the time. I saw one little girl smuggle a head out in her stomach once! <Insert standard complaint here about BAM being not worth the money.> EDIT: Oh, I forgot about the hat/hair! Your minifig can have just one hat/hair piece. So that would bring the total pieces up to 15, I think. So I think you can buy a mix of 15 heads or torsos. You just want to make sure it's cool with the store people before you dive in, by the way. Don't want to get to the register and have an uncomfortable situation.

Looks pretty good. That's one of the pieces that caught my eye in that set as well. I was also wondering how acceptable spongebob's hat would look on a regular minifig. Care to snap a photo of that for us? I also thought that you could perhaps use Patrick's torso to make a fleshy pirate, maybe with some of the PotC fig parts, if the flesh color matches.

Johnny Thunder's kid brother? There's one for the easter egg thread, I suppose.

I didn't know 4th model instructions existed. Are there any for the house/building type of sets? (Lighthouse, Cabin, Hillside House, etc)

I have: Brickbeard's Bounty Imperial Flagship Black Pearl Queen Anne's Revenge (not built yet) ... and do the little row boats count? Or the cobbled-together life rafts? I like to gaze longingly at old dusty pirate ships from the '90s on eBay. Then I watch them get bid way up higher than I think they're worth. I used to have a pirate ship and an imperial (redcoat) ship as a kid, but it seems the old collection is lost in the sands of time. I've recently gotten a few pirate minifigs in eBay lots here and there, and I'll enjoy piecing together an old-school pirate crew over time, at least.

I was in my teen dark age in 1997-1998, so I was only dimly aware that Fright Knights existed. I really enjoyed reading the review; thanks for taking the time to write it up for us. (I think I've read every one so far.) There's more "miss" than "hit" here. But one thing they do have right is a certain intangible feel to the theme. It's kind of off the wall and wacky, but it does capture that Halloween feel quite well. It's mostly garnish, unfortunately, because the construction of the sets has a lot of open air on all sides of what should be a castle. But then you have a lot of nice chains, bats, and presumably magical stuff going on. I think the knights get lost in this theme though. Reading the reviews, I can't remember what their torso prints or gear look like (without looking again), whereas other themes like black falcons or forestmen spring to mind. And that's sad, because if any theme needs strong minifigs to carry the sets, this is the one. In particular, the male counterpart to the witch doesn't seem to come across as a strong personality like she does; there's just not too much that's special about him. I guess it's in that strange middle ground between the old minifigs (standard smiley, cookie-cutter torsos) and our new hyper-detailed minifigs of today, and some of them got lost in the mix. I found the flying contraption sets to be particularly funny. Is that knight in a magical floating Honda? What is that? At least they were promotional sets, and not a lot of thought was put into them as such. By the way, I wonder how the promos worked back then. I wish there were still ways to get neat little sets like that at a gas station. The (presumably) flimsy plastic cave piece in the Traitor Transport set was a surprise to me. I wonder if anything like that had appeared before (or since). I mean, it doesn't look like it even has studs at all, am I right? Thanks again. As for what to review next, I vote for these: Vikings Western Ninja (the older one from a while back)

That was my first one too. You're going to love it. Get ready for a solid 4 hours or more of building.

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Zeya replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
I was thinking about this recently. There are already 2 known sailing ships in non-pirate themes this year: the Spongebob Flying Dutchman and the Ninjago Destiny's Bounty. And now there's reason to believe that another ship may be coming to the Monster Fighter's theme at some point. (See some posts above for details on that.) It's curious that Lego is releasing sailing ships in everything except a pirate-based theme. I think that they realized the sailing ships have been the best-selling types of sets in the pirate themes, and so they have sought out other ways to sell sailing ships in other themes. That's sad on the one hand, because we don't have our beloved theme right now. But it's also good because we can still cannibalize these other sets for some parts. Hey, maybe we will see a modern yacht in the City theme. Although I guess "that ship has sailed" because last summer was the marina sub-theme for City and there was only a sailboard in one set. Maybe a gold bandits getaway dinghy for this summer? As a fan of the minifigures line, I'm hoping to see some cool new pirate figs in a future series. Maybe TLG can throw us a bone there. -
I've recently had my eye on some discontinued, pricey minifigs. I've also noticed that sometimes you'll see bits and pieces of minifigs up for sale on eBay and BL, etc. This got me thinking about how people talk about parting together discontinued sets, such as Green Grocer and Cafe Corner. And I've been wondering if anybody goes to the trouble of parting together a minifig, piece by piece. Have you parted together a minifig over time? What fig was it, and how did it go for you? Are you still missing a key accessory or body part?

Placed a BL order for: ... and a couple of small pieces that caught my eye.

Collectible Minifigures Trading Suggestion
Zeya replied to Donut's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I update my trading post for series 6. Click here to see the post. I just need one Statue of Liberty to complete my set, but would also like a second Statue of Liberty and Roman. I am willing to do cash either way to broker a trade. Thanks! -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures General Discussion
Zeya replied to Nabii's topic in Special LEGO Themes
For pretty much each series, I've been keeping a few extra unopened packets. (Except series 1 because I was in a dark age then and just bought a full set on ebay.) I've been labeling the packets with yellow post-it notes. But I need a better way, because those things don't stick to the foil very well. Does anyone have a better method? I was thinking perhaps painter's tape. Whatever I use, I don't want it to be removable and not damage the packaging, because I anticipate maybe selling these things a few years down the road. -
I opened a dispute within Paypal. They gave him 14 days to respond with his take on the matter. He never did. So they refunded my money, which I think came from his bank account. Before all that I also reported to a BL admin and they shut down his store right away. Kind of strange all in all. He must be trying for quick and easy scams, hoping people place orders and then forget they spent money or something.

LDD on Macbook Air and/or Macbook Pro
Zeya replied to Bainreese's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I have the latest 13" Macbook Air (released in Spring 2011). It's able to handle LDD just fine. You shouldn't have any problems. Feel free to PM me if you want me to test anything in particular for you. A Mac Pro is definitely able to run LDD like butter. P.S. I love my Macbook Air. I had concerns at first that it wouldn't be powerful enough and such. But I'm able to do anything and everything, and it's great how thing and light it is. -
$100,000 worth of clone troopers for sale on ebay
Zeya replied to madoka's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
They do have a report link. It's along the right-hand side when you view a listing. I use it all the time to report people selling coupons (usually for Lego). -
I can't help but wonder if maybe 4996 Beach House sold so well that it prompted other nautical-related house sets in Creator, because we got the 5770 Lighthouse Island last summer and now this new Seaside House set. And now that I see a clearer photo, the house really is light blue and not regular blue! I can really use more of that color in my collection. Wait a minute. That's 12 cents a piece for the house. That's too much, come on now TLG. The light blue is nice, but Creator should be below 10 cents a piece. I swear these licensed themes are just bringing up prices for everything now, just so they don't seem so price by comparison or something. The truck/truck/car set looks really nice. I bet that one will sell like hotcakes, especially around Christmas time for kids. I'm not too into vehicle sets though.

I saw Disney's Peter Pan and then half of The Black Cauldron. I hadn't seen either one in years (decades? I'm old now). I remember reading Black Cauldron and also playing the computer game back in the day, but I don't remember seeing the movie really. I must have been pretty young when I saw it. It's pretty dark, and I can see why Disney doesn't bring it up all that often. Peter Pan was about as good as I remember it being.

At my nearby store, there is always the three-flower stem piece, and almost always the bamboo (three leaf) piece. They're pretty much a mainstay. Same is true for certain other things. Wheels, tires, 2x4 bricks in colors you don't want (lol). But seriously, certain things always seem to be there when I go. But this may vary from store to store. I spoke with the employee at mine who orders the stuff for the wall, so they do kind of determine what to order, and they do change it up. But yeah, certain things are always there like the flower stems.

I got a BL admin to shut down the seller's account. I'm sure this guy will just open a new email and pick a new bogus address, rinse and repeat. I have another question for the future. Is it really possible to get Paypal to back your purchases with a credit card instead of your bank's checking account? I remember the last time I tried to google and look into that, it seemed to me like it was basically impossible or very hard to do.
-
I looked up his address. On Zillow, from the street view it has the icon for "sold" on Dec 7th, but then on the house's page it says "for sale" and says the property is condemned. The photos show a very run down house that I can't believe anyone would be living in, especially someone who keeps around and knows the value of rare-ish Lego. http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/326-328-10th-Ave-Scranton-PA-18504/9565908_zpid/ I'm pretty sure I got scammed at this point. I've given it a fair shake to let the guy respond at any rate. I'm about to go do a "non shipping seller" on BL and see what I can do with a Paypal dispute. (Yep, I paid through Paypal). I'm not sure what you mean by "file a charge" and "charge without announcing". Can you explain that please? If you mean go to the police, I'm considering it. Oh I see you're in Germany; I'm in the USA. UPDATE: I initiated the NSS with BL and started a dispute with Paypal. I can escalate it in about 30 minutes, which I fully intend to do, because it's clear the guy is a scammer and won't respond. He might even pull some more shenanigans like closing his Paypal account or bank account once he catches wind, so I'm going to do it right away.
-
Actually I guess I should do "non-shipping seller" since the "non-responding seller" instructions say that is if you have not paid yet. I have unfortunately paid, so that would be a non-shipping seller case. And from what I'm reading, it sounds like I won't be getting my money back. And then if the seller gets 3 of these, he's booted off BL. I'm crossing my fingers that maybe this guy is just indisposed for a few days or just really new to BL, but it's looking less likely by the hour. Sent him an email directly this morning and he still hasn't responded, and his last BL login was around 9pm EST two days ago.
-
I'm wondering how long I should wait to start a non-responding seller report. I should have known better. I found a brand new store that opened and decided to buy something for $25 that usually goes for $35 or so. I got an invoice nice and quick, and paid the next morning. But tomorrow will have been one week since I placed the order. The seller last logged in 2 days ago, and he didn't change the status of the order at that time. I sent a PM-style message to him through BL yesterday, and no response to that. That's my sad story. At least worst case scenario I'm only out $25. Could have been worse.

I saw X-Men First Class. It had some good moments. One or two of the people were pretty cheesy (e.g. stripper girl with dragonfly wings). The guy who played Magneto did a good job.
