EB's LDD Relay Community Builds

Even if we do get that option, we still need to keep realistic. No one is going to believe a 33mm wagon wheel in trans-green color or a purple cow. ;) -
MOC: Gavin Rogers' Lego Köf Train Built for Brickworld 2011
Lego Otaku replied to DLuders's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Considering they move slowly and are meant for moving a few cars around a short distance, I would think the engineer can stick his head out to check around as he drives around. -
I'd like to add I liked the older sets. Back in the day you had to build (for example) a rocky wall with multiple pieces, not with one piece like this rock panel: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=6082 When you could count the number of available non-transparent colors with just 1 hand (black, red, yellow, blue, grey, white, and green, ok that's 7) Right now there's something like 30 colors in production and some are very similar to each other or to discontinued colors. When a set didn't come with numbered bag (this was new in the past couple years) and building a 1,000 pieces set means going through all 1,000 pieces to find that one piece. When the box had flap to reveal the content, when the part tray also doubled to keep manual and sticker sheets from coming in mangled, and sometimes as a colorful backdrop. When the instruction and/or box featured a few alternate build suggestions. Today, the manual usually only shows one build instruction, maybe extra for adding motors and batteries, but never picture of alternate builds.

I would love to have a chance at this. I saw someone explaining that allowing too many people on the project could cause problem as some people's computer may choke on large project. An alternative for those with older computer is to sent the next person a few picture showing the project at the stage and the next person then decide where to add his/her expansion. Then get part (ie just the floor of the section he/she wants) and he/she then can add to it. The new addition can then be merged into larger project. I do have a decent computer, I once took the LXF for 4 modular buildings (CC, GG, FB, and GE), joined 4 of them together, duplicated them 3 more times (duplicate corner building removed) to form a block. My computer were reduced to crawling pace at over 20,000 pieces total and took about 30 seconds to completely explode it in LDD 3 -
There is one I would love to try and tackle: 2 story building with 3 curved front on a corner. 2 facing east along main street, and 1 on side street facing north. The curved section ends above the roof with half a peaked roof (like Addam Family building). The challenge is the intersection is not square but rather the road intersect at about 45 degree so the building would have a narrow cheese wedge like front corner. This means very difficult challenge to design stable floor inside the building without the seam from 2 angles.

Was thinking of putting together a few minifigs, specifically the Classic era space minifig. Looking at the list, I could do just about in any color although a light blue hand would get very expensive and for some reason LEGO never made orange helmet :/ (forget those air tanks, newer space series minifig didn't need em) Anyway if I get the water slide decal of the classic space logo for torso, would it show well on dark purple and dark bley? The next best thing would be regular label and sharp knife to cut out the space logo. I know clear label wouldn't do well here, some lighter color would kind of disappear on dark colored torso.

Easy way: http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=8870&cn=587&d=70 Since 7938 (and 7939) has battery and more, you could add those lights.

Water slide may not work so it'd have to be sticker sheet and a sharp knife. Most paper are already UV reactive (phosphor to make it brighter white) so with UV lamp, those lines will glow. Don't forget the hockey type helmet for disc war ;)

target deep discounts on Space police for parts!
Lego Otaku replied to Rhapsodyred99's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
This morning I ran around checking local Target stores (as well as Walmart and Kmart) for clearance toys. Walmart and Kmart had some Hero Factory stuff on sale. Kmart also had Toy Story train set down to $50, and they are out of stock after I bought em ;)I find it funny Kmart is blowing out Lego Toy Story stuff but keeping regular price on Price of Persia sets. I also found 3 Space Police set, for $25 each and bought them all. Other Target store didn't have any Lego on sale. So I got probably close to 4,500 new Lego pieces to play with for only $175.00 -

Probably this one: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=5974-1 -
I bought Tantive IV (#10198) and got the shadow ARF Trooper plus poster for free. The poster is nice but I doubt it'd be good for anything in the long run so I'll probably give it away locally. The minifig will likely remain sealed in bag and get put away & forgotten until 10 years later. :)

Went to Lego store to pick up the new train sets and checked other stuff. I got: set 10198 Tantive IV 20% off; some Star Wars sets are 20% off today and tomorrow (May 3 & 4) only. Plus I got a free shadow trooper with it 1 large cup stuffed full of 1x4 brown "log" bricks. When I repacked the cup, I was able to squeeze another 50 of them before I resorted to filling the little remaining spaces with bunch of 1x1 round plates. Total 284 brown log bricks. Average price on BL: 11 cents used and 15 cents new so I would have paid $31.24 for used or 42.60 for new plus shipping. Lego online store charges 26 cents each. :D Oh yeah almost 100 trans-light blue 1x1 round plates that filled in the little gaps. PS the store in Troy, MI had 6 PAB displays full of Hero Factory chest parts in red, orange, white, blue, yellow, and black color. 3 different pieces of each color: chest armor, badge, and I think head. They may have other armor pieces not on display but I didn't ask since Hero Factory isn't my thing.

I realize this is old but I still need to point and laugh at Walmart. Today I went to that one store that had the NXT 2.0 set on "sale", and they still have them on "sale" for low, low price of $279.00 6 months of dust included for free!!!
-
Is that the magnetic coupler with the plow? Finding 6 is a bit unusual, sounds like a little mix up at the factory.
-
Not bad!!!

That site is largely dependent on users submitting detailed information. So some information will be out of date within a week of last update :/ The PaB selection can change that fast.

If you were in USA< it's so much easier to get bulk bricks. Craig's List sometimes have cheap Lego. local yard sale do have them but they are usually gone within the first hour. And if you're willing to spend a few hundred dollars, eBay bulk lot (used mainly) can be had. I recently picked up a 60+ lbs (around 28Kg) lot of mixed used Lego for only $360 shipped, and last year I snagged a nearly 100 lbs (about 45Kg) for only $400, and it had a near complete red Monorail train in the box =) The missing pieces are probably still in the box, I haven't gone through em all yet. Shipping to Italy isn't going to be cheap unfortunately but check eBay for Italy and nearby European countries, maybe you'd get lucky.

National Geographic's "Megafactories" Lego Episode
Lego Otaku replied to DLuders's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Doesn't look like I'll get this show on USA TV. Youtubes are very nice but there's no available subtitle or closed captioning for the deaf. I searched but couldn't find any listing for USA show and I didn't find anything on if there would be DVD for this. Thanks for the Youtube link though. Better than nothing :) -

Over the years I've picked up several lights from various light and sound sets in '90s through early 2000. 2 of the lights, both 1x4 brick with 2 bulbs, are not working. One of them one bulb seems burned out, it never lights up. Other one only works in flashing mode, never lights up when I rotate it 180 degrees for steady mode. I can live with non flashing piece but a 1x4 brick with 1 dead bulb is just ick. So any idea about repairing them? Or should I replace em with flashing 3mm LEDs (and current limiting resistor) for long life? I tried Google but kept getting useless result such as repairing Malibu tail light (yes I used Lego in search, don't see how Malibu car is connected )

When did your collection reach critical mass?
Lego Otaku replied to Arigomi's topic in General LEGO Discussion
When it takes me an hour going through dozens of unsorted pieces just to find a single elusive 1x1 round trans-neon green, then I have too much ;) I have 200 lbs (under 100 kg) worth of mixed pieces, some more that are sorted and a dozen or so unopened boxes waiting for me to play with. -
UCS Millennium Falcon set, the biggest STar Wars set at pver 5,000 pieces usually sell in the $1000+ range MISB Also Lego set 10132, the only Hogwart Express tain with motor are going $600 and up. There are some people who missed them when they were out at regular price but really wants em and would paif a high price for some. They are usually: AFOL who came in the scene a few years later Collector of specific set or themes People who are nostalgic for older sets Personally I don't buy them if they are out of production. I buy sets to play with them and I would pay a good price for some older sets that are open and complete but not for sealed box set. I know people would cry if I ripped open a MISB Airport Monorail set.

I have no idea as I gut quite a few bulk lots from local garage sales. My total connection exceeds 200 pounds (a bit under 100Kg)

My local Meijer has Harry Potter castle set and all of Prince of Persia 30% of clearance. I wonder if I can get the castle BOGOHO?
