Custom LDD bricks and fixes
suenkachun replied to Equilibrium's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Perhaps check the “UV Mappings” Folder supplied with the latest LDD Update to see if there are any new UV Mappings of the Legs, I’m not good with 3-dimensional surfaces myself so the PDF Guide only contains common Flat Surfaces, Straight Slopes and only recently Curved Slopes with measurements all easily calculated using ratios or from extracting Curves in SVG Programme “Inkscape”. Each time an LDD update is released I check that folder for updated and new UV Mappings, convert into Vector Graphics and add to the PDF Guide. -

I have noticed this issue since at least last year too and recently figured out why, it has something to do with Firefox’s “Enhanced Tracking Protection” feature. From Firefox: “It blocks trackers that follow you around online to collect information about your browsing habits and interests without breaking site functionality. It also includes protections against harmful scripts, such as malware that drains your battery.” Once this feature has been turned on (either “Standard mode” or “Strict mode”), Firefox will automatically block all “Cross-site tracking cookies”. Unfortunately, the Image site jester is using “sun9-71.userapi.com”/“sun9-80.userapi.com”/“sun9-23.userapi.com” is treated as one so Firefox blocked the site’s contents from showing by default. Perhaps use another Browser like Chrome or Whitelist the site. For important Eurobricks Topics I’m following, I have set it to notify me by email of any new replies so I can always preview the images within my Yahoo email. -
Custom LDD bricks and fixes

As mentioned in my post above the latest LDD Decorations Size Guide PDF will only be released by the end of this week as I still have over 20 new Bricks to add to the Guide. However, given that the UV Mappings of four specific Bricks: Part 2431 Flat Tile 1×4, Part 87079 Flat Tile 2×4, Part 3004 Brick 1×2 and Part 3009 Brick 1×6, were changed in the latest LDD Update and will very likely affect custom Decorations, I have decided to mention how to create updated Decorations for them in this post first. Although rough PNG Images of the four UV Mapping are available under the “UV Mappings” Folder supplied with the latest LDD Update, all UV Mappings mentioned in the PDF Guide have been successfully converted into Vector Graphics for the best accuracy, especially when Curves, Slopes and Decimal Numbers are involved. How To Output Decorations For Part 2431 Flat Tile 1×4 (Top Main Surface And All Four Vertical Surfaces) Create the five Decorations in their original Dimensions then scale up using the following information, please note that the Back Vertical Surface also needs to be Rotated by 180°. 1. Top Main Surface: Original Dimensions 0.8 cm times 3.2cm; Original maximum Dimensions 256 Pixels times 1024 Pixels. 2. Front and Back Vertical Surfaces: Original Dimensions 0.28 cm times 3.2 cm; Original maximum Dimensions 89.6 Pixels times 1024 Pixels, compress the shorter side to 79 Pixels without changing the longer side or cropping the shape. 3. Two Side Vertical Surfaces: Original Dimensions 0.28 cm times 0.8 cm; Original maximum Dimensions 89.95 Pixels times 257 Pixels, compress the shorter side to 79 Pixels without changing the longer side or cropping the shape. To best explain how the four Decorations are arranged amongst a Transparent Borderless Square with both a Height and Width of 1024 Pixels, please refer to this Vector Graphics with all Pixel measurements and information included. All Gaps are in Bright Orange or Brick Yellow which should be left Transparent while the five main Decoration Surfaces are either in Bright Red, Bright Yellow, Dark Azur, Bright Blue and Dark Green respectively. How To Output Decorations For Part 87079 Flat Tile 2×4 (Top Main Surface And All Four Vertical Surfaces) Create the five Decorations in their original Dimensions then scale up using the following information. 1. Top Main Surface: Original Dimensions 1.6 cm times 3.2 cm; Original maximum Dimensions 476 Pixels times 952 Pixels, compress the longer side to 951 Pixels without changing the shorter side or cropping the shape. 2. Front and Back Vertical Surfaces: Original Dimensions 0.28 cm times 3.2 cm; Original maximum Dimensions 83.2125 Pixels times 951 Pixels, compress the shorter side to 74 Pixels without changing the longer side or cropping the shape. 3. Two Side Vertical Surfaces: Original Dimensions 0.28 cm times 1.6 cm; Original maximum Dimensions 83.3 Pixels times 476 Pixels, compress the shorter side to 74 Pixels without changing the longer side or cropping the shape. How To Output Decorations For Part 3004 Brick 1×2 (All Four Vertical Surfaces) Create the four Decorations in their original Dimensions then scale up using the following information. 1. Front and Back Vertical Surfaces: Original Dimensions 0.96 cm times 1.6 cm; Original maximum Dimensions 384.6 Pixels (rounded up to 385 Pixels) times 641 Pixels. 2. Two Side Vertical Surfaces: Original Dimensions 0.96 cm times 1.6 cm; Original maximum Dimensions 385.2 Pixels (rounded down to 385 Pixels) times 321 Pixels. To best explain how the four Decorations are arranged amongst a Transparent Borderless Square with both a Height and Width of 1024 Pixels, please refer to this Vector Graphics with all Pixel measurements and information included. All Gaps are in Bright Orange and Brick Yellow which should be left Transparent while the four main Decoration Surfaces are in Bright Red, Bright Yellow, Bright Blue and Dark Green respectively. Please remember that all 384.6 Pixels and 385.2 Pixels will be rounded off to 385 Pixels in the final PNG Image, but still use both decimal values if possible for the best accuracy. How To Output Decorations For Part 3009 Brick 1×6 (All Four Vertical Surfaces) Create the four Decorations in their original Dimensions then scale up using the following information. 1. Front and Back Vertical Surfaces: Original Dimensions 0.96 cm times 4.8 cm; Original maximum Dimensions 170.6 Pixels times 854 Pixels, enlarge the shorter side to 172 Pixels without changing the longer side or cropping the shape. 2. Two Side Vertical Surfaces: Original Dimensions 0.32 cm times 0.8 cm; Original maximum Dimensions 172.8 Pixels (rounded up to 173 Pixels) times 144 Pixels. To best explain how the four Decorations are arranged amongst a Transparent Borderless Square with both a Height and Width of 1024 Pixels, please refer to this Vector Graphics with all Pixel measurements and information included. All Gaps are in Bright Orange, Dark Azur and Brick Yellow which should be left Transparent while the four main Decoration Surfaces are in Bright Red, Bright Yellow, Bright Blue and Dark Green respectively. Please remember that all 172.8 Pixels will be rounded up to 173 Pixels in the final PNG Image, but still use 172.8 if possible for the best accuracy. Also note that compared to Bricks 1×2, 1×3 and 1×4 the Front Vertical Surface of this Brick is placed at the back, so Rotate this Brick by 180° before use. -
Custom LDD bricks and fixes

Both the UV Mappings of 3004 and 2431 have been updated in the latest LDD Update so relevant Custom Decorations need to be changed too, for 3004 the latest Decoration PNG Image Files supplied with the update should all be Aligned properly but I haven’t checked the Sticker Packs yet for this or for 2431. There’s also Part 87079 Flat Tile 2×4 and Part 3009 Brick 1×6 with updated UV Mappings just to name a few more common Bricks. Essentially for 3004 and 3009 you can now Decorate all four Vertical Surfaces at once, for 2431 and 87079 you can now Decorate the main Top Surface plus all four Vertical Surfaces at once, this also fixes this previous issue for 3004, 2431 and 87079 where the Decoration Surface exceeded the Brick Surface causing distorted Decorations to be displayed in LDD. When I have access to my Laptop later today I can post about these four Bricks ahead of releasing the latest LDD Decorations Size Guide PDF by the end of this week. -

Thanks for the fixes all is perfect now, found one last minor issue to fix Decorations 1518 and 16796 both need to be adjusted according to the updated UV Mapping of Part 11153 (do check the Sticker Packs as well for any used there). -

EDIT: The latest “240922.lxf” still said 20 Bricks missing upon opening so I did a quick Text Compare using the original “240922.lxf” and a version opened on my end and discovered the following Parts not present in the latest LDD Update files (in no particular order): 35756, 2017, 1622, 102286, 35817, 66980, 41599, 35382, 2013, 5215, 5518, 3321 and 29167. If any of these Parts are supplied with Decorations please check whether the relevant PNG Images have already been included too, thanks. -

Thanks for checking that was my guess, perhaps these are missing files and need to be added back to the latest LDD update files alongside the missing Decorations as the screenshot was taken after I reinstalled the update. Will wait till everything is fixed before downloading the update again. P.S., it should be mentioned somewhere that the old files for Part 73210 and Part 68986 can now be deleted to remove two old duplicated entries. There is a separate “Stickers Rar” file available for download with all Stickers placed under individual folders with the Set Number, Name and Year as each folder name [e.g., 10261 Roller Coaster (2018)]. Simply copy and paste the necessary Stickers into “C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\db\Decorations” for use in LDD, the latest “DecorationMapping.xml” file supplied in the update already includes all of the relevant entries for the Sticker Packs. -

For some reason, 8 shock absorbers are still missing which means 17 missing decorations as I did not notice anything else out of place. -

Looks like several shock absorbers are missing on my end too from the screenshot so the 30 missing files must at least include both Decorations and the shock absorbers. -

First delete all g files from the Primitives folder under the db folder (not the LOD0 folder of course!), then reinstall the fixed update, should solve all issues except for the missing files and decorations. These .g files were misplaced and a reinstall should put them back into the correct folder instead of having to manually move things around yourself. -

That is the 30 missing Decorations I just mentioned earlier, Brickwise the update should be all fine now simply install the update again once the missing PNG Images are added back. -

Try what I did: delete the g files, download the update again then copy and paste all files from fixed update into original location, should slove all issues except for the missing Decorations. -

The latest “240922.lxf” file is still missing up to 30 Decorations, below is a screenshot of the Decorations Section on my end please compare and locate all missing ones as I could not manually do so, thanks. Just a quick analysis and I at least spotted: missing minifig heads, blue Minifig legs missing prints, 6180 missing Star Wars print, 21599 and 65474 missing prints, two 3069 missing prints, one 98138 missing print, 57999 missing print just to name a few. -

Thanks for another LDD Update it looks like some files are missing again, specifically the “Assemblies” folder under the “20240922-2.rar” folder is currently empty, which is what I believe caused 40 Bricks to be removed from the latest “240922.lxf” file on my end. Other than this, everything else is working fine so far. EDIT: None of the existing Decorations for Brick 1×2 except for one Minecraft TNT Block have been adjusted according to the updated UV Mapping, so these 17 PNG Images will need to be fixed. -

Great news, please remember to include the missing updated files for Part 3023 and update Decoration 73784, there’s also the updated colour name files available. At least with the Part 3023 files the PDF Guide regarding LDD Decoration Sizes can finally be updated with the missing information, new entries may also be added once the LDD Update is out. Thanks. -

Do check out the comprehensive PDF Guide regarding LDD Decoration Sizes which I have created since a few LDD Updates ago and is still being constantly updated with each new LDD Update, which can be downloaded from Dropbox here. It helps everyone design the most accurate Decoration PNG images of common regular Bricks for use in LDD, simply use the relevant details when designing Decorations for any listed Brick and they will fit onto the relevant Brick surfaces perfectly. After designing custom Decorations, please locate the “DecorationMapping.xml” file under “C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\db” and add more entries at the end, Decoration Numbers can be either five or six digits long please make sure they do not overlap with existing entries in the Decoration Folder which are all official LEGO Decorations. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The UV Mapping of Part 3023 Plate 1×2 Vertical Surfaces (only the front one was made decoratable but now all four can be in the new version) was changed in the latest LDD Update on May 4, 2024, but the new files have been missing even though the existing Decorations have already been adjusted (there is a PNG image of the UV Mapping supplied with the LDD Update, but since I now prefer to convert these into Vector Images/SVG for the best accuracy I cannot test the output without the updated files in LDD). As a result, I was going to publish the latest version of the PDF Guide only after these files were made available (perhaps only until the next LDD Update). However, given how the new version already includes many useful new entries and fixes a few crucial errors I had previously missed, I decided to publish a temporary version of the Guide today which is only missing the updated information on Part 3023 Plate 1×2 Vertical Surfaces (the original information is included and the situation explained). Therefore, do check back for the final version of the new Guide later. EDIT: Just fixed several small typos and the new version is available right now at 4:00 A.M. Hong Kong time. -

Looks like those parts are missing files, usually .g files within the “LOD0” folder at C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\db\Primitives\LOD0. To fix all issues I recommend the following steps. 1. This is optional but you may also want to perform a clean install of LDD to restore all LDD Programme files to default, use the guide I posted earlier which is linked below (when I reinstalled LDD on my Windows Laptop some outdated files added in later updates were removed and certain Bricks were restored back to their original versions). 2. Once complete please install the “Complete Update” from Dropbox as linked in the guide above, the key thing to do is to always copy and paste directly into the relevant folders with the option “Replace All” selected whenever promoted, when in doubt please check out the steps in the first post of the partner LDD Updates Topic linked below. 3. In case the latest LDD Update from May 4, 2024 is not included in the “Complete Update” Package please install this separately which is linked below. I have personally used the above steps to reinstall LDD and once complete LDD should be up-to-date with everything released until the May 4, 2024 Update, give these a try and feel free to ask further questions, hope this helps. -

Welcome, there are no video tutorials out there so far that I know of, but you can try the new perfect method to install LDD on Windows as detailed in my earlier post linked below, which essentially combines the two installers for both “LDD Version 4.3.11” and “LDD Version 4.3.12” to achieve a perfect installation. Remember that new parts will only show up in LDD Extended and feel free to ask further questions regarding the text instructions, hope this helps. -

To both: The correct way to add these files is select everything within the “Additional, Optional Palettes” folder but not the folder itself, then copy and paste to the following location: “C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\Palettes”. Once complete they can be accessed in LDD Mindstorms via the “Filter bricks by boxes” button at the bottom of the Brick Palette (third option on the right). P.S., do also check out the latest perfect method to install LDD as detailed in my earlier post linked below, which should solve further issues as everything is copied and pasted directly onto their correct final locations. Basically, “LDD Version 4.3.11” is the correct Windows version to install but it includes the now permanent Flash Player Glitch. “LDD Version 4.3.12” was released to remove the Flash Player Glitch, but it has multiple issues such as the outdated Brick version. This new method combines the installers for both “LDD Version 4.3.11” and “LDD Version 4.3.12” to achieve a perfect installation. After performing this clean install of LDD once, for future LDD updates just copy and paste the latest files provided within each update. Hope this helps too. -

Thanks for the reply, I’d say add back the missing files for Part 3023 first as these were promised in the latest LDD Update and all existing Decorations have already been updated according to the new UV Mapping, still can’t find the relevant “.xml” and “.g” files in the latest individual “20240504.rar” file (unless they have been released elsewhere then I will go check) the rest are minor issues so can definitely wait until another update. -

Did you by any chance have time to check the issues posted earlier? Most are found on Pages 106 and 107 of this topic: Part 3023 missing updated files for the new UV Mapping, the updated Colour files which I posted above on May 6, Decoration 73784 still a 1:2 Image instead of the latest format and Brick issues (27925, 63864 and 2431, 65734) posted on Page 106. Thank you for all efforts so far. -

Just went through the latest LDD Update and noticed that the new UV Mapping of Part 3023 seems to have not been applied as the existing Decorations are now distorted and the relevant files are not found within the “20240504.rar” file, until these files are made available I won’t be able to update the relevant entry within the PDF Guide regarding LDD Decoration Sizes (currently the only missing information before the latest version can be published) or update my two Custom Decorations. Please check for other issues within Pages 106 and 107 of this topic too (e.g., Colour file improvements), thanks. -

Just installed the latest LDD Update and the latest “240504.lxf” can be opened fully without any issues at all so many thanks for the latest efforts. I did go through the Colour Files and noticed two issues. First, in the “Materials.xml” the order of Colours is currently 141, 143, 142, 144 so entry 142 is misplaced. Second, I checked the German version of the “localizedStrings.loc” file and made further improvements, 16 existing entries were updated and 18 of the newly added entries were improved. The improvements aim to achieve the following: all Dunkel=Dark, Helles=Light, Klares=Bright, fix translation errors and certain words not translated. Also, the English version of the “localizedStrings.loc” file had the Hyphen of “Material188 Tiny-Blue” restored. It is highly recommended that everyone download the latest LDD Colour Files from this link and manually replace the relevant files supplied with the latest LDD Update on May 4, once checked these new files should also be incorporated into the latest or next LDD update release ASAP. I have included a Change Log within the ZIP Folder in the link which explains everything in detail, comparing the original and updated German Colour Names will clearly show why this was necessary. P.S., an updated version of the PDF Guide regarding LDD Decoration Sizes should be available by the end of this week once I finish studying the new UV Mappings supplied with the latest LDD Update and add them to the Document. Thanks. -
