  1. Not sure if you are still on Wowplayer, but 2 posts above yours the admins pulled down all detailed posts having to do with that. May want to edit.
  2. Heading to WalMart in a couple of hours in hopes of grabbing Hogwarts, instead of paying the premium at TRU for the pleasure of buying there. And now we get Diagon Alley dropped on us, just hours from the official release time, very cool. Here's hoping 2011 is the year of HP, and Lego going all out for the final movies!!!
  3. I have been thinking of doing an airplane hangar for the plane that came with the Century Skyway (4 wide), but have been stumped on how to create a sliding split door to open. This may be a good starting point for a nice look, but not overly complicated gear/technic style door, since the door will be about 12-14 studs high. Thanks for sharing.
  4. Very nice review, helped sell me on the set. Just got done with this set. Overall I thought it was pretty nice. Still can't get used to the snap down roofs, as opposed to the hinged ones of days gone by (both here and in City sets like the Airports/airplanes). In fact, I 9V'd my Public Transport Tram, and in a 90' turn the roof piece of the middle car comes off if it's above half speed. The biggest gripe I have about the design is the gap created at the hinge of the windshield. Don't know if there is a block connection that could work better, just a minor irritant. Bigger issue, as has been mentioned is the lack of straight track in bulk, and additional passenger cars. Saw on Ebay this week, the passenger car alone went for over $60 US, thats nearly half of the cost of the whole set in $US. Seems a bit crazy to me.
  5. Got the Airport, Public Transport, and Passenger Train. Figured if I was going to do the 3 for 2 deal, might as well make it count. Took longer than expected though, didn't realize the SW sets were excluded until I got there.
  6. Picked this up today, with the Airport and Passenger Train at the TRU 3 for 2 deal. Seemed the best way to justify buying them. I'm thinking of trying to put the Tram on my 9V loop and running it between the airport and a couple of stations I have around the layout. Saw some people talking about PFing the tram, which I think would be difficult. Has anyone tried the it with a 9V engine? Looking forward to modding/morphing the airport with the century airport from days gone by, and getting the tram running passengers to and from.
  7. Very nice, I think this would be a very doable mod., and like you said, not a lot of loss in the space area of the train. Plus I always thought it weird to have a dining car in a cargo train Sounds like I may be heading to TRU for the 3 for 2 deal and see if they have the passenger and cargo train in. I looked at the track prices at Lego, and they are scary cheap by comparison. Don't think I'll abandon the 9v set yet, may use it as a commuter between the train station and the airport, and get the PF track going for the rest of the layout. Appreciate all the info guys, please continue to share your thoughts. Although it seems to be a majority...
  8. As far as the opinion on price, I personally thought it hard to think it would get cheaper. I was just going with the this: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=43648&view=findpost&p=766591 (probably more hoping than realisim )
  9. Well, waiting until I had the money to order the sets bit me in the hind end. I'm feeling pretty good with being able to find Hogwarts before Lego could ship it to me on Oct 29 Here's to a big shopping spree next Friday!!!
  10. I know there has been endless debate about which is better, but that isn't what I'm looking for here. I have a 4559, obviously 9V, so I don't have a dozen 9V trains. With the extra sets I have around my layout, I have about 24 pieces of straight track, 1 set of switches, and about 40 curves. Getting back into trains, and Lego has thrown the curveball of PF now. With the limited investment I made back in the 90s, do I convert over to PF? Or basically lay low with what I have and wait for the 9V straights to come down? I read through the "Future of 9V" thread, but it seemed to become a which is better thread. If I do decide to convert, wouldn't the second car have to be redesigned on the 4559 to support the battery pack? I guess a third option would be to incorprate the new PF sets around the current layout, but have them run independent of each other, and add only to the PF track for now. Thanks for any advice on direction to go, or please share your experience if you were in a similar situation.
  11. Greeting - I'm a 9V guy from the mid 90s. Started with the 4559 Cargo, and add-ons 4552 Crane/cars, 2150 Train Station, 4555 Cargo Station, and 4532 Crossing. Slipped into a second dark age after that. Coming back, I'm a bit at a loss as to what to do. Switch over to PF, or stay with 9V. I have a modest layout, but nothing extreme. Lego has certainly made it challenging, but I guess I should be glad I missed the RC era..... Regardless, glad to be here, and look forward to digging into this forum deeper.
  12. Try Dacta Duplo. I can only find one example on Brickipedia, set number 1402, under Duplo themes. Early/mid 70s, big blocks, bright colors. I remember these as well, must have been a staple of the time. Hope it helps.
  13. This is great, I'll take 10!!! Glad to see Lego has finally found a pricepoint to brick ratio we can all live with That would put the Express at about $8, Burrows @ $5,and the rest at less than $4.
  14. Cheers, another very nice piece. I've really enjoyed your work. Not to threadjack, but can someone point out where the statue minifig comes from, or if it's a mod? I've seen it pop up in several MOCs lately, but can't seem to find it on BL. Thanks.
  15. As much as I hate messing with them, this seems to be the best option for finding bulk. All of the thrift shops in the area seem to be picked or overpriced, and clearance aisles consist of one Bionicle set. There are currently 5 people with posts on Craigslist in my area offering to buy legos, so no reason to throw my name in that hat. Thought about posting on facebook to see if any friends have kids who no longer use theirs, kind of a pre-emptive garage sale grab.
  16. I can confirm this price at my Target as well. They had them hid in with the Halloween stuff as bag fillers, instead of with the toys (found that odd). Didn't have the barcodes, so used the feel method and grabbed 2 Pharoahs, Mexican, and Witch. Meant to grab a Spartan, hence the 2 Pharoahs, but that's all good.
  17. Just got done re-assembling these sets on Wednesday, or at least 6256 (Catamaran) and 6278 (Enchanted Island). The idol in the 6278 was a really nice touch, and brick built to boot. Although the brick count was rather small in these sets, the plates were a good fit for the set, and the minifig count was great, but that was more the norm in the mid 90s. I always enjoyed these sets, and thought they complimented the pirate line nicely, at the time.
  18. First thing I thought of, "I made a darth doodie" (Family Guy). Nice MOC!!
  19. Guess I can say I'm lucky. After having bought, assembled, and broke down this set back in '96, I put it back together about a month ago, problem free. ALthough like was mentioned above, the gearing for the wheels are a real pain. Sadly I was missing one of the small rubber bands, but it didn't affect the function of the set, just means I have to be mindful of the forward/backward function. The fiber optics do seem to be somewhat lackluster compared to what I remember, but they still fire in sequence, don't know if they can be "broke", short of snapping them in half.
  20. Greetings, Coming to you from Evansville, IN. I've been in and out of Legos twice now, 2 dark ages, I guess. Once as a child in the late 70s, still wish I had my classic space sets, and am always watching Ebay to rebuy them. Then again, in my early 20s, I got into Trains/City, Castles, and Pirates from '93-'98. From what I've read, it sounds like Lego went into kind of a "Dark Age" after '97. Although I do have a few Fright Knight and Time Twister sets, so I got caught on the front end of it. Tried to get back in about the time SW and HP were coming out, but other financial demands were there, so I missed out on alot of sets I wish I hadn't. So, now I'm back. Fortunately I do have all of my sets from the mid '90s, and have rebuilt them all in the last few weeks. Still not sure where I will hang mostly here. After spending the better part of a week, I seem to be bouncing around all the forums. Trains/Pirates/SW/HP, don't know yet. May just end up floating around all the forums, and not really having a true focus. I know I plan to keep my train layout set up and MOC some building for the layout. We'll see, I guess right now I am going with the "free spirit" direction. Look forward to getting to know this community better, and jumping in over my head with information. Cheers
