Pirates of the Carribean 5 Sets Discussion
Captain Pirate Man replied to Capn Frank's topic in LEGO Pirates
For the record, I am not dissapointed, not at all. I am getting a new pirate ship, that's always good news for me. The ONLY thing that I'm a little worried about is that I am going to have to put another $50 (to make it what I want it to be) into an already $200 set. Which every other Lego set I own, if they are $150 or more I don't have to change a single thing. So that's a bit of a shock, tbh. Again I don't blame Lego for that though, because they made the ship from the film, and did it justice based upon what I have seen in the trailers. Its just a situation I am not used to being in, but it's by no means a BAD thing. Also I am reserving judgement until I build the thing, I might find some things about it that I really like, I usually do, lol. Even if I am NOT a big fan of the finished product, as others have said it could make a great ship from The Goonies. It could also be a nice Flagship type vessel, I also haven't ruled out turning into the Dutchman if it doesn't look like we are getting that. So LOTS of possibilities. -

Lego did a great job making the ship that appears in the film. Also, once the film comes out, it might help the appeal for this set. Its just that the Dutchman would have been a safer and smarter move. Unless Disney told Lego to do the SM, they made a mistake imo. -

Lego NEEDS to make the Dutchman happen gosh darn it. They owe us for this one imo. I'm fine with the Silent Mary if I get a Dutchman as well. If this really is the only set, then shame on you Lego. I also feel that they don't really know what they are doing sometimes. Honestly a proper Flying Dutchman would out sell this set easily. Not even a large D2C one, a basic one similiar to the QAR would be fine. -

They BETTER give us the Flying Dutchman!!! It's ridiculous if they don't. As we sit here today, I was HOPING this set would be my favorite Lego Pirate Ship to date, and I don't feel that way. I would say the IFS, BSB, SES and QAR are better imo. I might even put the TBB, BBB, and BP a head of this, but I'll wait to see it in person before I make that call. But I feel confident that the first group I mentioned I will still like better than this ship. -

I LOVE the 2011 wave. My only complaint is the BP itself. The way they designed it, it's a little unbalanced with the cannons and the masts, it's the only Lego Pirate Ship I feel that way about. Other than that, it was a very good set and a very good wave. -

As much as I LOVE pirate ships, I am a bit disappointed tbh. This is a GREAT model of the ship that appears in the film, so I can't knock Lego for that. I can however knock Lego for choosing THIS ship as the new set. I'm sorry, but the Flying Dutchman would have made a MUCH better choice imo. I think it would sell better, and would have helped bring interest back into POTC, from a Lego perspective. I just can't see this ship really selling that well, not like the FD would have sold anyways. So IMO, Lego really dropped the ball there. If the FD is coming as well (but we have not heard ANY info that it is) then my statement here is moot, but if this is really it, come on Lego. Yes I will still be buying this set, day 1. Yes there are things I like about it, but thank God Lego is made to be changed at will. I see myself HEAVILY modifying this ship, which is not something I expect to do with a $200 set. Just off the top of my head, I'm thinking of turning this into the proper Siletn Mary. Proper as in, not a ghost ship. Honestly, I'm thinking of building the bottom deck of the IFS and putting the deck from the Silent Mary on top. Getting rid of the "bow" function, proper cannons (the cannons on this set are HIGHLY dissappointing), and new sails. Although I do really like these sails, they won't fit the look I am going for, but I will use them somewhere. If I'm honest, it looks like my red coats might be getting a new flagship. -

Is anyone else thinking about buying hull pieces and putting the main deck of this ship in a proper hull? -

Here's to hoping for NEWS tomorrow. -
Despite Depp's recent films, I have a feeling this POTC film is going to be pretty big. Bigger than 4 was for sure, probably the biggest since 2. So IMO, if the film does as good as I think it will, a whole line would do well. I agree with what others have said, look at the abomination that was Ghostbusters 2016, Lego gave that film only 1 set because they were unsure of how Well the film would do. Which that was a smart move by lego, a whole line based on THAT film would have flopped with the movie. Lego gave POTC a whole line in 2011 with the 4th film and it did ok, but not great. So only releasing 1 set with films they are unsure of is a smart move. Having said that, if the trailer for the new film is any indication, I think this film SHOULD have a whole line, at least 1 more ship. Watch Lego miss this opportunity though, and then do a whole line with POTC 6, and watch that film not do well... Missed opprotunity, lol.

I am going to reserve judgement on this set until we get some proper info, but based on the trailer I am a little worried. I'm sure the ship in the actual film will be pretty cool, and I don't mind them making it VERY different from what you would expect out of a "ghost ship". As a Lego fan though, I am worried about how well it will translate into an actual set. I will be buying this set day 1 reguardless, but if it is ANYTHING less than amazing, I will wish we got the Dutchman instead. Honestly I was hoping for something bigger and better than the IFS, so I am a little worried about that at this moment. I hope you are right, but I'm a little worried about Lego's tactics if this is indeed true. What I mean by that is, if Lego is "testing the waters" shouldn't they test them with a more proper looking ship, like the Dutchman? Guaging interest based upon the ship we saw in the trailer is NOT a smart move imo. This set is going to be SO different than anything else we have ever gotten. Which could either be a good thing or a bad thing. I feel like the FD would have been a MUCH safer bet. Again, until we get more info, it's all just speculation. At very least I will turn this set into a sunken pirate ship sticking out of the water type of display for my layout. That's if I just plain don't like the look of it and don't want it As an actual functioning ship.

In the trailer we saw the BP, QAR, FD, and the Silent Mary. So I have some mixed feelings about this. As a fan of the series, I'm happy to see all the iconic ships in screen again. As a Lego fan though, I DO wish we were getting the Silent Mary and FD. My collection will feel incomplete without the Dutchman.
