Karl gasped as Grady read out the exert. "No way! Lady Luck was Henri's ancestor?" He frowned. "Wait... so he wanted to join Heroics, but his dad never let him? That was really mean of him, the dirty vermin!" Then the rats arrived. "Ugh! So many of them!" He was used to the creatures, but not in this multitude. Karl swung into action. "Keliim, target the filthy rat. Boris, bash the big ugly one." Karl smashed his vial of venom over his shrunken, then attacked the Big Ugly Rat with it. OOC: if Karl can't both use the venom on his weapon and arrack in the same round, he'll just prep his shrunken with venom. -

Even in his frustration, Karl couldn't help but crack a grin as he saw the U'Kin with his ridiculous pile of scrolls and parchments. There was something quite endearing about him which Karl couldn't quite place. He turned to his friends, took a deep breath, and nodded to Keliim. "I'm with Kel, let's look at Mrs. Hinkwell's journal." -

Karl resisted the urge to join Keliim at throwing things at other things. Curse his flawed logic! Of course Hinkwell wouldn't want to put his in most thoughts down on paper, where everyone could see them. He swivelled on his chair to turn to the others. "I'm obviously not too good at thinking in other people's shoes, but I think Keliim he the right idea about Henri's mum. However, what if it's not the right book? Will Grady kick us out if so? I'd rather make sure we get Daneeka his book and miss out on some experience than otherwise. How about we each choose a separate book?" -

Karl took the tome to a reading table and pulled up two more rickety chairs for his friends to join him. He studied the leaves carefully, turning each one with utmost care. "Not too dusty. Might have been used recently, then.." -

Karl was deep in an intriguing story about burnt cakes and a king, or something to that effect, so he just mumbled "Uhuh..." and went back to reading. -
Just to Lear something up: I read somewhere that you can create a new hero (and keep the old one) at level #, (think it was 30), or if you've competed in a certain number of quests, or if you've QMed about 15 times. But today, I saw a contradicting article on the FAQs saying you can only create a new character at level 50. Which is correct? [:P] Not that I plan on switching heroes anytime soon, I just want to make sure (nerd) [:P]

"If anything troubles you, and you're in the habit of writing stuff, you put it down in your own journal, right? Even if Henri read something in one of the others here, he'd still note down his thoughts about it." Karl took down Henri Hinkwell's journal, and proceeded to read through it carefully. -

Karl mutely invited Boris to look down the Assorted Journals isle with a jerk of his thumb a raised eyebrow. -

Karl plunked the book he was rifling through back on the shelf with considerable force. Then looked at Grady with a feeling of guilt. His frustration at not finding anything that would relate to Hinkwell's depression, coupled with the sluggish pace he was making due to his less than stellar reading skills, was steadily getting him worked up. He took a slow, deep breath and turned to Boris. "I think we're in the wrong isle. There's nothing here," he gestured to the lines of books "which relates to anything troubling enough to disturb Henri like that. Maybe we should head back and held Keliim with the family records. It's the next most likely area." -

"W.... wait, I'm quest leader?" Karl's eyes widened and he took several steps backwards. "Woah... ummm.. I think maybe someone el..." He stopped. Wasn't this what he had wanted? Not really, if he was honest with himself. But that wasn't going to stop him from backing out of such an esteemed position. He'd have to rise to the challenge. "Umm.. Right. I think the most likely places to find it would probably be debts and slights, family history and journals, or possibly shipping records. I'm probably gonna try for the first. But, y'know, feel free to pick which isle speaks to you the most." It felt weird being in charge of a team. He had always been in the background, never in the limelight. -
Masterpiece of comedy, that scene.

Shoot. Karl thought. Of all the things it could have been, it had to be reading. He nodded his head though: this what what he'd signed up for, so he'd better start proving himself a Hero. "Give us access to the vaults, and we'll be sure to get to the root of the trouble." -

Karl caught up with the other two. "Don't quote me on it, but I'm guessing what they want us to do is either illegal or dangerous. Don't think they'll go easy on us just because we're new to this whole thing, remember that U'Or originally wanted that larger, far more experienced team." -

So the U'Kin was drunk. Hard to tell with these non-humans. Karl Crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes at the man. Now I know I was acting ridiculously. "Look mister, I may occasionally skip any rewards, but I need the gold. No cheatin', or I'll hunt you down." Realising his last remark was actually quite threatening, he attempted to cover with a vague "If you don't mind..." Karl felt sure he could both walk and talk at the same time, but he wasn't sure if the U'Kin was up to the task. Nevertheless, he bobbed and weaved after the foursome, keeping a hand on his gold pouch: You never knew when a pickpocket would strike. He wondered about what the Hinckwell would ask of them. He guessed that it would involve something only heroes were good at, or else Elber and U'Or wouldn't have needed to hie them. Which also implied that the two had at least an inkling of what the contact would demand... -

Preoccupied by his own turbulent thoughts, Karl fell into step behind his two teammates. He didn't listen to their talk, or even notice where they were going, which was unfortunate as his extensive knowledge of the Eubric Freeport would have saved them a lot of time. When he finally snapped out of his zombie-like state, he found himself standing on a pier with his friends and two other character, a tricorne-clad sailor and the U'Kin who had met them at the Hall. He suddenly realised that everyone was looking at him, as though waiting for hi to say something. He stared back for a split second, totally at a loss, then decided that starting at an introduction might be the most logical solution. "Umm. Hi. I'm Karl." Pause. "Umm. I kind of..." He shrugged. Might as well go with what he was feeling, even if later he realized he had acted ridiculously. "I'm an adventurer extraordinaire . Doing good deeds for nothing, helping the poor, defending the weak, etcetera. I'm skilled at B and E, reconnaissance, and sabotage. Oh, and assassination I guess, but I've never had a proper shot at that yet." -
Thanks, Sandy [:)] No worries about the late welcome, running an RPG on the scale of an MMO must take up a load of time [:P] [:P]

A grin split Karl's face like an axe into a log. He sprang up, accidentally pushing his chair back into the dark stranger who had given him the bedroll earlier. Blushing and muttering hurried apologies, he wrapped his thin jacket about himself and jogged after the other two. OOC: Just to check: so now we go and post in the marketplace? [:P]

As a new-year's present, I'm releasing the unfinished MORPG I half-completed about a year ago [:P] It's massively buggy, (even the GUI is just the standard one) but still quite fun, and seeing as I'm not working on it anymore I decided just to at least release it [:P] Here are the downloads, for mac and PC. To run on a mac is easy, just download and double click the file. For PC, make sure both the downloaded files are in the same folder, then double-click the .exe launcher. (No ads [;)]) https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xk4xeusasqpxlgv/AACpfBBmeFjfsPMFUWPCLAzra?dl=0-Mac https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0egy68yngm8bklp/AABT20GtbvsZcJBI0OTO6_QWa?dl=0 -PC No personal details are needed to sign in, just a username and password (don't use any previously-used passwords though, because I will be able to view your full character from my database). Have fun, and don't get beaten too badly by the Golem Lord [:P]

Karl listened with growing respect for Keliim. It must have been rough to have been in such a high and noble position, then for it all to come crashing down. "Gosh... Would... would there be any way of helping to restore your tribe?" He swirled the remains of his drink in it's mug, contemplating grabbing another. But the slightly light-headed sensation he was feeling was fair warning to him that enough was enough. Regretfully, he slid the vessel into the centre of the table and sat back in his chair, for once truly at home.

Okay, so yes, the old dropbox link for the mac version of HL isn't working :\ [:P] I think the mac mini was turning it into a folder or something... Anyway, this should work, it did with another game of mine [:P] https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xk4xeusasqpxlgv/AACpfBBmeFjfsPMFUWPCLAzra?dl=0

Karl followed Boris's lead and signed up for quest 122.

Karl shook his head regrettably. "I generally steered well clear of any "charities". An acquaintance told me that some people supposedly offering jobs to the poor were just looking for free labour." He gave a non-commital jerk of the head. "I was doing okay as I was, I didn't want to run the risk of getting caught up in something when I had no need. At least, not much of a need..." "Maybe.... Maybe this," he gestured about him. "is where we'll find out what truth is. What justice is. Where we're meant to be, what we're meant to do in our life." He took another pull. "That's how I felt." When Keliim brought their attention to the notice board, Karl nodded eagerly. "I didn't want to say, because I assumed we were only allowed to sign up for one at a time, but I have a feeling about this new quest. What do you say, Boris?"
