  1. This is the other of my two MOCs going to London for next week's Brick2014. Since it's built to life-size, many people who look quickly think the model is a real aquarium with Lego built inside it, but actually the tank itself is made out of Lego, too. The biggest challenge was to keep the tank frame narrow and sleek-looking but still strong enough to bear the considerable weight of the hood, lighting and motor. ( power functions needed for circulating " bubbles") Another challenge was positioning the fish so that they looked like they were swimming freely without any props or supports showing.(and didn't come crashing down during transport!!) • G A L L E R Y • click above image for direct gallery link
  2. Excellent! Bravo! The chicken leg support was particularly daring (and I can just imagine how stressful and frustrating the journey from idea to fruition) I'm impressed with the roof also..... all those irregular curves and slopes..... Love the theme, too.
  3. Looks like another good one.... I'm particularly pleased with the grey version of unikitty's tail. I had wanted to use the tail piece a few months ago for something similar (decorative top to white pillar) but it was too cost-prohibitive. Hopefully the grey one won't be so expensive!
  4. I used screenshots of the actual video game to design and lay out the model as accurately as possible and to keep it all to the correct scale. I also had to make sure the caves and hidey-holes were in the right places. Lara got killed by the T-rex several times before I got it all done!
  5. Hello folks, I'm new around here so I'm not sure if I have the right forum..... this one seemed the most interesting and certainly the most diverse! I've only been building MOCs as an AFOL for a couple of years so I don't have too many to show. Also, this is my first year to exhibit ( previously, my MOCs just got played with by my children for a while then got broken up) This model is based on the classic Tomb Raider video game (the first one) and features Lara in level 3, the Lost Valley. It's going to be on display at Brick2014 in London next week so I'm pretty excited. • G A L L E R Y • click above image for direct gallery link
  6. Personally, I like the "classic" moniker, although "basic" wouldn't bother me either.... I'll be too busy filling up my shopping trolley with these new buckets and baseplates! In my country we have no Lego Store and only limited numbers of toy stores in general so it looks like an excellent way to bulk up the bricks with an excellent colour selection and some very useful pieces.
  7. I'm an exhibitor there so I've had a look at the schedule... didn't see much about technic specifically but there is certainly an impressive line-up and plenty of stuff to see. There will be various sellers there as well so, more than likely, you'll find lots you want to buy!
  8. My biggest regret is easily getting the 2nd edition LEGO Collector's Guide. Once I looked through it I realised all the cool sets and stuff I missed during my woefully long dark ages. (another regret)
  9. This is only my second post (just introduced myself yesterday) but when I stumbled across this thread it resonated with me so much! Not enough time or bricks is an everlasting problem, but I think the "burnout" feeling for me is just the frustration of having more ideas than I will EVER have time or bricks to realise. All the ideas whirling loosely around in the brain is actually rather stressful (and LEGO is supposed to be for fun!) but recently I've made it a bit easier on myself by keeping a little notebook. It is divided into three "ideas" sections: Major Builds, Medium Builds, and Quickie Builds. These are then sub-divided into three more categories: Not Fully Planned or Thought Out, Fully Planned but Don't Have the Parts and, finally, Planned and Ready to Go! Depending on my mood and available time, I check my lists and choose a project. I even keep this notebook by my bedside for sudden, middle-of-the-night inspirations. (How sad is that?)
  10. Thanks for the welcome! Right now we are getting ready for Brick2014 in London. I'll be exhibiting along with others from my group. Perhaps I'll meet some of you there??
  11. Greetings! I'm Janet VanD and I come to you from the lovely green isle of Ireland. I am a seriously addicted LEGO fan who fell in love with the brick at the tender age of four, built constantly as a child but had a shamefully long dark age of 25 years!!!!! Emerging from those dark days only a few years ago, I was building MOCs all by my lonesome self (with just supportive family members to cheer me on) until last January when I stumbled upon the wonderful members of the Irish LUG, Brick.ie, of which I am now a member. It's been a fantastic experience so far; being part of a LUG has really enriched my life and made me aware of all that LEGO and the fan community has to offer. It's great to be able to chat with folk who not only understand the passion but share it! (Before, people looked at me oddly whenever I tried to discuss the merits of a particular brick or compared one shade of grey with another) I love all things LEGO but my main areas of interest are large, detailed buildings, castle & fantasy themes and organic pieces with plenty of plants and natural features. Here are some examples of my most recent MOCs (Click images for direct links to the galleries): It was my Brick.ie friends who encouraged me to join Eurobricks but I took a while getting to it because I'm not very good at computer stuff (I usually click bricks, not mice!) and joining a big forum seems a bit scary but I guess it just takes getting used to, one brick at a time!
