  1. For the people trying to fit the apartment in the building, here's my work in progress: https://www.dropbox.com/s/aciap041yk2qd73/Emmet's apartment mini.lxf?dl=0
  2. Okay wow! Could you please share the artwork for the tiles? I've tried enhancing them with AI but unfortunately I never got them sharp enough to print as stickers! Hello everybody! It's been a very long time since I posted here and coincidentally I was showing a friend yesterday that me and @Xon67 did a coop on Emmet's mech and showed him this thread. Man, I can't believe how much more you did Xon, seriously awesome. I still haven't gotten around to building the mech, I see there's some updates, I'll need to check the thread and have a look :D Also, I migrated to stud.io from Bricklink, as LDD is now obsolete and I have to say that stud.io is great, good to see bricklink invested their money in something good. Also noticed that some people have requested the LDD files from Xon67, I have got 2 to share with you guys, Emmet's apartment and Emmet's apartment building: https://www.dropbox.com/s/oign4mub21e4b65/Emmet's apartment.lxf?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/sriahz2jtpnw3ku/Emmet's Apartment Building Modular.lxf?dl=0 Cool to see the behind the scenes videos, I used those for reference as well :) @Xon67I think now that LEGO Ideas has really gotten some traction, we should put some models there. I really want to try to get the apartment as a real set, the only problem is that the wall is paradisa green which is discontinued. Let me know if you want to put the mech onto Ideas! I still get regular comments on those youtube videos from people asking either about the mech or when these projects will be put back onto Ideas.
  3. @Xon67 Amazing.. I still have to check how tall it stands next to the modulars/emmet's apartment building. This will be a beauty once it's done. :D
  4. @Xon67 Nice job! I am now the proud owner of a truckload of yellow bricks :) My holiday is coming up in a couple of weeks, so I can finally start assembling the torso :D When that's done I'm going to put it back in the LXF file. For attachment points, I think we should make something ourselves that will be sturdy but not too obvious. (Well, since the other 98% of the Mech is spot on, I don't think anyone's going to notice). And if everything else fails, we always have a backup plan, we could always build a cool support structure, sort of like charging station :)
  5. @NDLG80 incredible job on that instruction machine! I am now FINALLY getting close to having all the parts for the torso. (well.. as it is currently.. keep reading..) @Xon67 Requesting to lock the torso part from the build from the 18th of may, I will do some heavy modifications and would prefer not to get 'merge conflicts' ;) Still if you want to continue, the shoulders+arms+lower abdomen + legs are removed from my working LDD file, so those can be altered with no merging problems later on. I hereby present the 3 image plan for building the torso! The plan always was to subdivide the torso otherwise it will be impossible to build. What I want to do is to subdivide the torso in 4 parts. The middle will obviously connect to the lower abdomen. Problem here is that it's connected with a single axle so it will fall over, I'm going to try to find a way to support it. Step 2 will be the sides This way I can easily reinforce these sides, and make them connect properly since it's already a weak structure due to the bricks being built in different directions Finally step 3 would be to build the back
  6. Nice job Xon! @KamalMYafi You are a bit late to the party, but definitely not too late :D I received another 4 bricklink orders this week, I still need to do a couple more, @Xon67 Xon, I am close to being able to build the torso part. I'll put my focus on building and reinforcing the torso, will update the LDD file when it's done. After that I think I'll start building the shoulder pads.
  7. Time for a small update before you all think I'm not working on this anymore :D So, the good news obviously is that I am also attempting to make a real build out of this. The bad news is that I cannot use LDD at all. The rendering is still messed up, and I can't build without using brick outlines, it feels about the same as driving with your right hand tied to your back. I tried importing it into Stud.io, doesn't import correctly and will not allow me to re-export it again as LXF. So I started on the main body. @STeNCH I know the connections are not working yet. I'll try when I have all bricks for the torso here to make it connect properly :) Meanwhile, we still need to figure out the side connections, the photo below is the only shot of this connection which shows how it should be done: I'm about halfway through the parts for the torso, which is around 1100. Special thanks definitely have to go to set 7047 Coast Watch HQ, this is the only set that includes the 6x1x5 yellow slope :) To be continued guys :)
  8. @STeNCH I am very uncertain about the color here, it looks like dark bluish grey, but I think it's all black, and the lighting is causing it to appear as grey.
  9. I haven't really checked yet what is available and what not, the drums idd are one of the biggest issues, for the rest there are some small parts not available in yellow, but I think replacing them with black will be pretty cool. The total build will indeed be somewhere between 3000 and 4000 parts, it's really a mammoth! When it's done I'll try to reimport it into stud.io, it will list all parts that are not available and give a rough bricklink price estimation. I guess my wallet will feel the pain :D
  10. @STeNCH @Xon67 Stench, don't worry, I've been away for about a year, so don't worry =) Attached screenshot clearly shows the problem :P But I'm still running an old Nvidia driver from last yet so I'll see what happens if I update that. Unfortunately, stud.io doesn't let me export to LXF or LFXML, so I'll have to fix this. I'll have to revisit all my old screengrabs / movies, so give me a few days to get up to speed. Xon67, what do you say we first get it into a finished state and then see where all the problems are? Would still love to submit this to Ideas as a co-production to see how much attention it will get. Edit: Unfortunately, I upgraded to the latest Nvidia driver, problem is still the same. I know it's because I set brick outlines on, so I might have to live with this ;) Importing it into stud.io was a disaster, likely because everything is very far apart =)
  11. That's a coincidence :P I sent Xon a message regarding this model a few days ago, we should really finalize this :) Nice job on all the builds in the previous year Xon! So, regarding the mech, I have a slight issue with LDD. I recently got a new computer, and the triangles are horribly messed up for some parts. So I installed Stud.io from BrickLink, and I must say, I am loving this new program a lot! Xon are you still using LDD? Stud.io features networked building, so we could work together on this project simultaneously! So, to answer your question, the intention I had with the main body structure I did so far was to make it buildable, since they use parts in all directions, I had to put some reinforcements here and there. I think Xon was planning the same thing after we finished the entire build accurately enough to the movie.
  12. Hey everybody, I just uploaded the construction timelapse of Emmet's Apartment Building to youtube :) This building was altered a bit so that it will fit next to regular modular buildings :) If anyone wants to see more pictures and/or the LXF file used for this build, just ask!
  13. Amazing updates Xon! Nice job on the real build kodlovag! I'm back again, unfortunately again on a rather somber note :( My father passed away almost 2 months ago. Pretty bad start of the year :( Haven't touched the mech for quite a while now, I've been pre-occupied with a lot of other stuff. Very curious to see the LDD file, It looks like you managed to get the front together, so that means we're almost done :D I guess the last thing to do is to attempt to put everything together and see what a real build looks like, and how it will hold :D Also, incredible job on the mansion. Can't wait to see a real build of that as well!
  14. Oh wow! That coffee shop is awesome! That asks for a real build for in a modular city :D
  15. You forgot to mention how incredibly fast it is compared to POVRay ;)
  16. Keep in mind that the reason that they will release it in 2017 is because Finn is now a lot older, which will reflect into the whole movie. The designers have stated that there will be more space! Gief Moar Space! :D How cool would a reprise of M-Tron / Blacktron / Futuron be? I would love to see a cameo of Blake's M-Tron Magnet Factory :D
  17. Awesome stuff again Xon67! It's not only the detective's office and bank, the parisian restaurant wasn't released back then as well :D. Not sure about the Palace cinema though :) I hope Emmet still lives in the same apartment, and that they show the missing areas :D then I can finally get my apartment up to replica status :D
  18. I'll rewatch the whole thing again, there must be even more very cool things to do :D
  19. Good that it's been solved! LXF files are ZIP files containing an LFXML file and a PNG file, so you can always rename it to zip, extract the contents and inspect them. (problem is that you'll need to know more about the fileformat/inner workings if you want to fix problems this way). What I usually do when creating a big model that takes a lot of hours, is to save it to a new file every now and then.
  20. Aaaand he's back again :) First of all, happy new year to everyone (I know it's a bit late, sorry :P) So I clocked over 200 hours in Fallout 4 and I love the building system... man what a great move! It's like LEGO only different :) Xon67, those miniature versions are incredible, I would love an LXF file for that, it would be awesome to build it. Again, incredible job in nailing the details, something like that definitely requires a lot of skill! I guess it's time to slowly continue on the mech body, try to finally get it all together. And people must have been waiting for it. The Scooby Doo mansion is also very nice, do you have access to a version of the video? I think it was combined with some DVD or something like that, not sure though... I hope you will do some MOCs like custom modulars or something.. if you're in need of a project, I've always wondered what the minimodular pizza restaurant would look like in a normal size version :D
  21. Goodness! Nice job Xon67! I also watched the episode, and I am wondering if this interior will fit inside :) My guess is that again, the exterior and interior are completely separate (which is the case with most movies as well)
  22. Hello everybody, I'm back! :D Sorry it took so long, but I've been spending quite a bit of time in the Commonwealth lately. (That and I was ill for a couple of days :( ) This is the body so far: What happened? Well, for starters, I received the cement mixer parts in yellow, and they were small. As in *really* smaller. Not the correct part. But I should have known this, since for my apartment I watched the making of, and the movie was designed using LDD. Never considered that. However, since it *had* to be in there, I searched for the same size in the tool, and now I got the correct one! So that mystery has finally been solved. Bad part about it is that this other part is not available in yellow :( This bummed me out a bit and it took quite a while before I wanted to continue. I currenly have 20 of those huge yellow slopes, new condition :D Was very lucky someone on bricklink had 20 new ones lying around. That, next two 2 sticker sheets for the cement mixers, a hundred of those black tank tracks (I just love it in black), and some bits and pieces. Stay tuned for a real build, but keep in mind that will take at least half a year to complete. (4000 parts estimation, 10 cents per part on average means 400euro/dollar :| ) Not too much progress unfortunately. I finally managed to make sure the bottom parts of the side as strong as reasonly possible, and I spent literally hours watching through my slow-motion videos to make sure the head is tilted at the right andle, and is at the correct position. And I am still not sure if it's correct. And it needs to be if I am going to create attachment points using the technic bricks with holes. The middle offset issue has been resolved as well. I finally found some footage of the connection in a closup (with the micromanagers), so there was no offset :) The rollcage is nearly complete, but it's getting increasingly hard. The roof has these hinge plates and at the end are the yellow cheese slopes but they are at a small offset. In the closeup you can see 4 of the underneath it (above Emmet's head), and two offsetted, one plate down, plates right and left of those 4 hinge plates. I am completely stuck here. As you guys can see in the image, I am now marking things red and blue before finalizing. A bit of help would be appreciated :D Lastly, the sides are still not connected to the center to make a 3 piece (or rather 4 piece considering the back) design. This is because of the connection to the hips. I took a look at the underneath shots (rare as they are, too bad the foot is right in the way in the 360 part) It looks like a huge yellow technic bracket. As if it's 1 part. This is probably next on the list to figuring out. When that part is in place, and the connection is working, the body can be finalized. So, am curious to see how we'll end up. :) Would love to submit this to ideas as a co-pro, even if it's not going to make it, it would be a cool statement :D (And this one, I think it's bound to get some attention sooner or later) On your progression as what to continue on next, I am totally in favor of the western sets :) The saloon would be awesome! :D That all said, here is the LDD file : http://www.tribalrag...ech_body_v8.lxf
  23. http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=3849#T=C This one :) Don't worry, they are vertical, so they won't flex :)
  24. Very nice addition Xon67! I will definitely use those red bricks and build a strong connection on top of that. From the underneath pictures in the arrival scene you can see there's also a chain thing underneath. I think I know what part it is, but haven't started on that part yet. So for my progress, I have good news and I have bad news. The bad news, not very much progress on the mech body. The cement mixers are attached now and I started on the head. A nice setback here was the fact that the inside slopes and the threads were a plate too low and I had to move that up first (which was painful enough even though the threads are connected). But there's quite a bit of good news. First of all, I am making sure this thing will stay together. They built in all directions and the lower part isn't connected at all. I can sneak in a few studs, but that's not enough to hold it together. After a few hours of experimenting I think I found a neat solution with the long lance (anyone who had castle sets in the 90s knows which one I mean :D). I am creating anchor points with those lances and those will connect to the upper structure and hold it up (hopefully) Getting the legs and torso as tough as possible will definitely be the key to sorting this thing ready for a real build. (Which is definitely happening, oh yes) I've also been busy tracking down the partnumbers on bricklink, and most parts are available in yellow. I also found out that the cement mixers under the sides are not available in yellow, however, I took another look at them and those holes are not present in the movie version. After searching bricklink a bit, I found this one: http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=30398#T=C&C=3 Part number 30398, not only does it seem that it's the correct part, it's also available in yellow :D We needed a bit of luck for this :) Problem with it is that LDD does not support it, so I will have to order 2 to see how they work so I can replicate at least the attachment points. (Which is technically not really a problem ;) ) So next step will be securing the mech body so that it will hold up, then making 3 connectable parts for the main body, create the strongest possible joint to the legs (while attempting to be as true as possible to the movie), finish the head and the rollcage, and finally attempt to snap it all together without too much effort. As for the LDD file, before I post it, there's a couple of issues with this :P I am only working on one section, and Xon67 is working on a lot more, so I am foreseeing merging problems :) (Trust me on this one ;)) What I will do is let Xon67 post the 'master' file, and I will merge my changes into each one, until the torso is done and can be merged indefinitely to the master file. We shouldn't be blocked by each other :) http://www.tribalrage.nl/zut/_movie_emmetsmech_2015-11-09.lxf
