I could be way off-base here, but the eyes on the display just look like the largest eyes on LoSS's terrible printed face to me.

Oh, no, my objection isn't to them clamping to faces; that part is totally cool. What I don't want is mind control; that's what would make them krana with legs.

Well, they seem to be able to clamp to faces, and if there's one thing I know about things that clamp to faces in Bionicle, it's that they tend to have mind control properties. That being said, I hope they don't; as the first villains in new Bionicle, I'd rather not have them just be Krana with legs.

On the contrary, CCBS remakes of the Bohrok would be terrible, unless they're willing to introduce enough new pieces to make them fold up into perfect balls like the originals. If they can't do that, they're missing one of the Bohrok's most memorable features. I think the Bohrok should be left the perfect sets they were while this line goes in new directions.

For starters, the comic doesn't say a large amount of made up words automatically makes a book terrible, just that it lowers the probability of it being good. The reason is, of course, accessibility, and also because making up a language isn't just something you do on a whim. Remember that Tolkien made a language because he studies language, and knows how language forms. He was applying what he knows about language to invent his own. Most people who make up words have no such experience, so when the bs words start to pile, it becomes obvious they're just making it up as they go. (Coincidentally, this also applies to BZPower member Tolkien, who also applied what he knows about language to turn Matoran into an actual language, with excellent results.)

I thought this was an FAQ for employees talking to customers to refer to or something like that? Some of the questions/answers seem pretty strange for something only intended for employees.

...did the point I was making fly over your head? Someone on the internet you don't even know presented a possibility, and you took it as fact. It's completely circular to say they changed Toa to Master so people won't get confused, but they use the word Toa instead of Master so people won't get confused. There goes their argument, like that.

...you're basing your certainty that the term is gone for good on some guy on the internet playing the devil's advocate? fine. i'll play your game. I bet Matoro won't ever be a character, and LEGO CEOs will take turns pissing on his grave. Now that someone on the internet has said it, it's time for you to get super pissed off about it, right?

Need I point out that the document in question uses the word "Toa" repeatedly, one of the very terms you're complaining about losing?

Funny you assume disliking one extreme means going straight to the other. is everything that black and white to you? can you see pandas and zebras, or only half of them?

I said it was a combination of fantasy and sci fi, not one or the other. Remember that the robotic Vahki were still the opponents of beings who wear magical masks and wield magical elemental powers.

It's simple, really. If magic is a natural resource, then its natural state could be described as raw, or unrefined. When applied by a being, it is then refined and directed. It's like any other resource, like iron. At least, that's my take on it. Trust me, complaining about the Mistika's terrible color schemes and the Phantoka's terrible color schemes go hand in hand. Not a single terrible color scheme will go uncomplained about.

Bionicle has always been a combination of sci fi and fantasy; people just insisted on tearing more and more of the fantasy away as time went on. As a general rule of thumb, if it can only be explained by bonesiii pulling something out his pseudological rear, it was probably never meant to be explained.

It really doesn't hold writers accountable for anything. As long as people are willing to let the issue drop at the terms "advanced technology", it will always be exactly like the term "magic". Anyone can whip it out, or some nonsense term like "hypertonic particles", and everyone just nods their head and goes "of course". I doubt the new Bionicle will rely on magic any more than the old bionicle; it'll just call a duck a duck instead of an Autonomous Waterfoul Unit With Diving Processors And Ultra Wings

That was my point, though. I was making the point that people were perfectly fine with unexplained things like those before, and it's ridiculous that they would suddenly not be fine if something similar happened but instead of saying "technology", they say "magic" it's incredibly telling that people are more willing to accept the term "pure energy", which makes absolutely no sense, than the term "raw magic", which, in a world with magic, makes perfect sense.

Bionicle's no stranger to that. How do disks work? Toa's elemental powers? How is Protodermis able to take all those forms? How, exactly, do Matoran turn into Toa with stones full of "energy"? Waving things off is all part of the Bionicle tradition. They just never outright said "magic". EDIT: Oh, and how could I forget Vakama's visions? never got an explanation for those.

Why does everyone flip out over the term "raw magic"? Do you object to the term "raw materials"? All it means is magic in a pure, unprocessed form, like a natural resource I don't see how that's any more ridiculous than carving masks out of magical disks. Yes, they weren't described as magical. But can you think of any other way to describe what they do?

Metru heads would be difficult without lopping off the top balljoint. Mata heads are easier if you can find a visually appealing way to attack a y joint to them.

Odd that two people have added "Nui" to the name when the materials we have do no such thing. Also, another interesting thing about this; in response to a question about where sets are produced, it says LEGO sets are produced " in Denmark, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Mexico". The omission of China from that list is interesting. That list clicks with what was listed on Bionicle packaging back when it was produced, but these days LEGO factories have spread to a few other countries. Mistake on LEGO's part, or a sign of fakery?

If there IS a next big thing. It seems like a big assumption that we'll have another mystery as big and well-hidden (up until the latter half of 2008) as the giant robot.

I doubt Okoto will be the new name of the Great Spirit if they carry the concept over. Unless they're going to raise the Okoto Robot, I'd see no reason to change the Great Spirit's name.
