In theory, they have long lifespans, but they do eventually die Combine this with the technology to create or revive Matoran being destroyed with the GSR, and you are left with the unfortunate reality that, after a few millenia or so, the Matoran species will go extinct on Spherus Magna. Something tells me they didn't think that far ahead on that subject :P

It was already going to bother me if the Protectors are individual Matoran because I really don't like them all having the same mask. Yes, they stand out from each other in other ways, but masks are one of the most personality-filled aspects of a Bionicle design. It's like if every lower-price Hero had Evo's helmet. If they clone the sets to produce entire villages, it will annoy me even more, because then it's not just six Matoran with the same exact mask, which is something that happened in-story, though never in one wave of sets, it's an entire island of Matoran with identical masks. That's like if EVERY background Hero in Hero Factory had Evo's helmet.

Even the bulkiest of winter boots does not turn your calves as thick as they are long. A little bulk in the legs is okay, but Kopaka's legs are ridiculously thick, and yet only the average amount wide, giving them the oddest shape. Not to mention that, from the side, pretty much the entire leg bone is exposed.

The Japanese Rahkshi combos are easily some of the best, IMO. They're cohesively colored and excellently shaped. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/BionicleLegends/Bionicle-Database/2003/z-Combo/Rahskhi-Japan-Mag/imgp0000.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/BionicleLegends/Bionicle-Database/2003/z-Combo/Rahkshi-Kabaya-1/imgp0000.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/BionicleLegends/Bionicle-Database/2003/z-Combo/Rahkshi-Kabaya-2/imgp0000.jpg the 2006 matoran combiners were pretty neat too though

i think it's just some sort of server or something that holds code maybe? it's there on all the other sites, too. I found it in the code for the Mixel's website. maybe they use "akamai.net" because they hold a trademark on akamai? or maybe they work with a company called Akamai that seems to do web stuff.

That's one way, yeah. Have a shoulder section that comes in, say, 9M, 7M, 5M and a hip section that comes in 5M and 3M (and maybe larger? though the only things i can think of that would need hips that wide would be quadrupeds that could use the neck joint on the shoulder section to connect a tail anyway so probably not) and join them in some simple way that doesn't inflate pieces too much but also doesn't over-specialize parts. It would be like an inika build without everything that made the inika build terrible. Not only would those pieces lead to a wider variety of body proportions, they'd be far easier to use as something besides bodies since they aren't as big a block and have fewer angles and such. That's a terrible way of wording it but hopefully you get what I mean? (I suppose in sets that don't need those pieces and are at a lower price point, the monopiece torsos could stay, but I'm tired of them being the only solution.)

idk, to me, at least, there's more to a set than vaguely resembling what it's supposed to be. aesthetic appeal should be figured in somewhere in there, and with its ridiculously wonky proportions, Dragon Bolt just can't check that box for me.

Honestly, with the return of the mechanical aesthetics, I'm surprised none of the Toa used the Breakout torso plate, considering it's the most mechanical of the HF chest plates. The BA plate is also kind of mechanical, but it's mostly just in its look of overlapping armor plates than any actual mechanical detailing.

Even not seeing a real dragon, I can speak for the proportions of similar quadrupedal animals (dinosaurs, crocodiles, elephants, etc.) which have the proportions I described. Some proportions aren't creature-specific, and you can't get out of every proportions argument by saying "but it's a fictional creature". IfB still has its flaws with using the torso piece, such as gaping balljoints of the sticking out variety and large uncovered gaps. Of course, I'm mostly speaking of the awful Surge and Rocka Combat machine when I think of this. I can understand using the torso when those proportions are ideal, because it's not as much of a problem. But I think at some point, if the system is to move forwards in terms of versatility and visual appeal, we need torsos that aren't exclusively geared towards making something with humanoid proportions.

LEGO better start using it right somewhere in here :P in all seriousness, CCBS has somewhat grown on me, but as I've said before, the monopiece torsos are an artifact of an unfortunate past. Sure, they're fine when it comes to the Character part of the building system, but what about the Creature part? One of Dragon Bolt's many terrible proportion problems (well, two if you include the head-to-body ratio) comes from the big torso block used in its construction. Namely, this issue is that its shoulders are wider than its hips. This is fine in humanoid creations, because it's realistic proportions, and even though it's a bit of exaggeration on the human shoulder to hip ratio, it still makes sense since it keeps the arms from hitting the legs when in a resting position. However, on a quadrupedal animal like Dragon Bolt, it gives the body an unrealistic shape; in quadrupeds, the shoulders are usually within the same width as the hips. Fangz has a similar issue, also caused by the torso piece used. If they won't stop using blocky torso pieces in these creatures, they should at least make one that better matches realistic hip and shoulder proportions for quadrupedal creatures. (Fangz and Dragon Bolt share another animalistic proportion problem; namely, their front legs are longer than their back legs, giving them an almost Brachiosaurus-like pose at rest. This is a fault from the set designers, though, and actually has no bearing on CCBS itself, and otherwise, Fangz isn't anywhere near the proportional monstrosity Dragon Bolt is.)

Hero Factory didn't focus on non-humanoid/sapient creatures until Savage Planet, which still notably relied on the humanoid builds save for Scorpio, whose body was a mess of limb and torso bones, then took another break until its last two waves, which had Dragon Bolt (who is to date the most hideous LEGO dragon I've ever seen) and this year's Beasts, only two of which are notably non-humanoid: Tunneler Beast, who is actually pretty well built, and Queen Beast, who, prior to her murder at the hands of Preston Stormer, was basically a really long torso plugged onto four legs and a cocoon abdomen. I'd love to see a variety of creatures, especially if we can move away from using the big, blocky torso blocks in them. I was done with blocky monopiece torsos when the Av-Matoran first introduced them. (fun fact: this post is a mess because I completely forgot Savage Planet until after I had written it. i'm not surprised I forgot it, though; it's very forgettable, at least as far as story goes.)

... except that wasn't "destroyed", Mata Nui wasn't known as a robot, and it wasn't really a battle, or described as such at all.

The wording of the backstory you gave implies continuation, though. "Destroyed in a battle with its twin, Makuta"? that sounds like an attempt to simplify the battle on Bara Magna. I think a reboot should pretty much avoid a GSR in the general; the GSR was the original line's main story engine. If it's not the driving force of the story, I see no reason to have a giant robot at all. And relying on a giant robot to defeat the skull spiders seems like overkill; I'd be far more willing to bet that what's pressing isn't the Skull Spiders as an overpowering force, but stopping them from getting their claws on the Mask of Creation, whether for themselves or for some master.

If it's a continuation, it would be the same Great Spirit Robot, would it not? Also, even a set the size of Witch Doctor and minifig-sized Masters wouldn't work; the head, which once contained Metru Nui, wouldn't even fit one minifig. Metru Nui had a population of 1000. Shoehorning a functioning GSR back into the story is the worst thing to do with a continuation.

...even if this were to be a continuation (it's not) it would be highly bizarre to have the entire plot hinge on a giant robot that cannot be made as a set, especially not to scale with other sets. It was different when it was a robot that contained the universe, but now? Now, having something that important be unavailable as a toy would be a terrible decision. (plus, y'know, the robot is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too big to function properly on the planet without killing entire civilizations.)

I suppose that's true, but that's eyes vs. whole body. idk why i feel like that makes a difference and now that I said it it sounds stupid. plus, now that we have finalized packaging, I would think they'd advertise it on the front? the spider certainly doesn't look like it's glowing, and sets with GITD elements usually have a symbol on the front. (In fact, judging by Dragon Bolt's packaging, these days they have a standardized symbol for the occasion.)

I missed this discussion, but I would find it highly unlikely that one of the Skull Spider colors is GITD, if only because if they were going to do that, I'd think ALL the Spiders would be that color; why limit a cool feature for the Skull Spiders to a handful of sets? It'd almost be like only making 25% of Krana able to stick to faces, or if only a third of the Jumpers could actually jump (well, as opposed to 0%, I guess; I still struggle with them).

A midquel or whatever you call it would be the worst option as far as keeping confusion to a minimum, unless you can think of a way to say it's a midquel without mentioning the vast story surrounding it that would be required for at least 75% of it to make sense.

The Bahrag were hardly humanoids; they were far more saurian. oh wait I just realized you meant the Visorak; I was thrown off by the use of the term "insect hive" since the Visorak have more in common with spiders than any insect.

The spiders definitely use the new attachment point; at some angles, you can clearly see the little clips pointing out. I don't see how lacking arms should make LoSS a less formidable foe; the Visorak were hardly pushovers, and we don't even know what powers it has besides being a spider. Also, there are other things something clamped over your face could do that would be bad, such as draining life force.
