What would white clash with? It's a neutral color. Even against black it usually just provides a nice contrast. I'm pretty sure they're white. My second guess would be silver.

First with the Mask of Ultimate Power, now with this one? Why is everyone convinced a silhouetted mask means the mask is black? I wouldn't be too sure; all the sources I've seen from Toy Fair seemed like people who ranged from indifferent to downright dismissive towards constraction.

The Ignika was a logo placeholder. That is nothing like a piece placeholder. They did not have a finalized logo, or possibly even finalized MoCr. That did not impact any of the sets themselves. Onua had no placeholder pieces besides the Skull Spider legs, and neither did any of the Protectors besides their flame pieces and masks being single-colored instead of gradients. And how do you know the eye color is a placeholder? Like Vizinni, you keep using that word, and like Inigo, I really don't think it means what you think it means. I am 100% sure it's the same mask. The sharp jaw isn't obvious in the magazine image because it's a head-on view, and the mouth looks open because it's got a bunch of slits in it, which aren't obvious in the magazine image because it's so silhouetted. It's not a placeholder. There is nothing in these preliminary pictures that makes me think any of this is far enough removed from the final product to change drastically. At most, we might see some face tweaks and stickers/printing. (Right now, some of the chest prints almost look like LOSS's face, which, if that is the case, actually would be a placeholder.)

Why does everyone say "it could be a placeholder" over any piece they possibly can? They said that about the Guurahk staff, and lo and behold, it was final. Considering this piece was likely chosen specifically for the design, I highly doubt it's a placeholder. It does. It's on his face. Most people just aren't recognizing it because it's not at a head-on angle. "close to"=/= same piece. Of course it looks close to it; they're both skull-like faces. In the image I found, it was ridiculously close to the final product, with all the new pieces being filled in by white fillers in the same shape as the final piece. Also, it was a picture, not a render. These are renders, with a ton of new pieces represented in them, and one of them even has the final background in place. Everything points to these being about as close to final as the leaks we got of the winter wave. As I said, we're definitely not in for any kind of massive overhaul of any of these.

It's not a printed disk, it's a molded disk. There's no way for it not to be the same. Skull Grinder does include the mystery mask; it's his face. (You seem to be implying something much more illogical: that the mask we've been shown this entire year won't be in ANY of this year's sets.) And, blurry as the images may be, I can say right now that none of them use Witch Doctor's face. Most (if not all) of them have their final faces, or at least close to them. I'm not saying nothing will change, but I HIGHLY DOUBT any of these are in for any sort of significant overhaul.

Not necessarily; these do have the MoCr logo on them, and are also notably the wave that includes it. It's possible they didn't have the design finalized, or possibly just the logo finalized, at the time the previous preliminary pics were made. Notably, none of the Toa had stand-in masks for their masks. Tahu's Golden Mask was preliminary, but so was the mask on his face.

Well, I'm just trying to think, because I don't see why these would be stand-ins for, say, golden versions of their masks, because they obviously already have a model of their masks, because they're wearing them. Usually, a stand-in piece is for something they don't have modeled yet, correct?

Has anyone considered that the Toa masks aren't standins, and instead suggest these enemies will take the Toa's masks from them? I mean, it seems an odd choice of collectible to include with them when there are only four sets but six golden masks, but it's possible the enemies need the masks for something. I notice there are some elemental-colored flames around the forge-like thing on the MM vs SG box; maybe the golden masks are needed to activate the forge?

A ten part difference on the box details, not the set itself; it's possible the part numbers were left over from an earlier prototype, because there certainly weren't any other differences between the preliminary image and the final Tahu.

Actually, the Skull Scorpion's legs look like they're probably fixed in place, making them less articulated than the Nui Jaga's. That, and it's been 14 years since the Nui Jaga was released; expecting set quality (especially regarding articulation) to increase isn't really all that irrational.

Why would you use a mask that has yet to premiere in any other set as a placeholder? Moreover, why wouldn't they include the Mask of Creation in the set with Ekimu? It seems to me the main conflict of the set is Ekimu fighting Skull Grinder to get his mask back. We haven't gotten a clear look at these heads yet; it could easily be one of theirs. Notably, it looks like Skull Grinder's mask (which also resembles the evil red eyes in the background of the main promotional image for the winter wave).

The preliminary images we saw then were pretty final; the changes were the addition of chest printing, the Skull Spider legs, and Tahu's mask. These are summer sets, so there could be a bigger margin for changes, but I'm not getting my hopes up too high.

Well, I'm still unsure on her mask. I've warmed up to it (far more than I have to the Mask of Jungle, which still looks ugly to me) but I still have reservations on it.

All the Toa save Gali have LOSS on their box art, creeping around in the background. I'm assuming they just couldn't find somewhere to put it in Gali's background. Either that, or it's there and I just have yet to notice.

dangit i was trying so hard not to make that comment :P well, I knew all his legs closed. What I meant was that the back of the box showed him picking up a mask with his front legs, which is where I got the idea that it was made with the front legs in mind, but I guess that was wrong.

The difference is, the Toa's functions don't rely on the arms being posed a certain way. You can bend the Toa's arms pretty much however you want and it doesn't affect the swinging function significantly. LoSS, however, doesn't have a swinging function, it has a grabbing function. What this means is that, unless the legs are posed in sync with each other in the right position (particularly the front legs, which appear to be the focus of the function), the grabbing function doesn't work. I suppose one could just repose the legs whenever you wished to use the grabbing function, but that would be a very unintuitive way to design a play feature. Also I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they couldn't have upped LOSS a pricepoint; I've always been under the impression that sets are usually designed for a price point decided beforehand that's within their budget. In this case, they budgeted for six $10 sets, four $15 sets, and three $20 sets for the first wave. It's possible that turning a $15 set to a $20 set would have been outside what they were capable of doing. If they had been able to up its price point, though, my first focus would be on making a custom face that has more dimension to it than the wonky flat chestface that I still don't like one bit.

Some of the Protectors are definitely shelf-chesting a bit. The PoF doesn't utilize the same chest armoring technique, though, and PoE has the gatling gun, so they're both blessedly excused from it. unfortunately, most of them would require a new recolor (and also the sacrifice of their back armor) to use the PoF's less bulky technique. The PoW could have used a Dark Azure shell I think, which may even have made the Dark Azure mask look less out of place, but I guess the only reason the PoF uses what he does is because they couldn't thrust the chest forward and move the shoulders back. Still, it's not a game-changing flaw. I've put up with shelf-chesting in sets before, and I can put up with it now.

He's quiet and wise but he's also strong. Since it's not his mask's power doing so anymore, one would expect it's made up for in muscle. The alternative is the strong guy is a noodle like the others. (Okay, noodle is an exaggeration, but I see no issue with him looking strong and powerful to match, well, being strong and powerful.)

My biggest complaint for LOSS is that the body feels like a block. There's only some slight shaping from the plating, but otherwise it just feels very rectangular and unshapely. The 2001 Rahi were better as far as shaping is concerned, before anyone brings that up. Even the Nui Jaga, arguably the blockiest in body shape, had a more animalistic body than LOSS, IMO. The only one blockier is the Manas, which was built around a clunky RC piece. I'm also still really not feeling that chest plate face. It's just not doing it for me. EDIT: looking at pictures to refresh myself, the plating does a better shaping job than I thought, but there's just something about the whole thing that gives this very rectangular impression. idk.

So your complaint is that they made his figure match his personality?
