7673 Magnaguard Starfighter 7674 V-19 Torrent 7675 AT-TE Walker 7676 Republic Gunship 7678 Droid Gunship 7679 Republic Fighter Tank 7680 The Twilight 7681 Homing Spider Droid 2008 Summer Wave, based on The Clone Wars movie. My wish is a wave that matches the consistency and ambition of this wave. These are proper LEGO Star Wars sets. The Mandalorian and Grogu wave reminded me of 2008, the year that made me not like Star Wars but love it. Except M&G movie sets fall short, by some way. -

Creative idea, enjoyed reading this. I have wondered where LEGO Star Wars goes next in terms of 18+; this is certainly an option. Problem is, it requires too many sets for it to work, which move away from the traditional ethos of the theme. -

What we are seeing recently is prequel-heavy summer waves every other year. I’d expect a Gunship next year. Either way, the summer wave in principle sounds pretty good. It does help that there’s some meaty Mando & Grogu movie sets. I am most looking forward to the Imperial Shuttle as I regret not buying the Tydirium so much. The thought of a high-level buildable Yoda sounds promising too. If they get the eyes right, I will buy it. I am most intrigued about the Bespin Duel set. I would love it to be a larger playset that depicts the scene in its entirety. Can’t see a big play set, though. Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter will be nice for the new Anakin (fingers crossed), but the third figure is puzzling. There’s no obvious choice and I don’t see them replicating the V-19 Torrent style lineup - Ventress has no obvious set to be included, whereas Dooku has plenty. A Season 1-3 Ahsoka would work, but again it’s just the inverse of Ahsoka’s Jedi Interceptor. -

Really like these ideas, they sound fun with great figures. -

What I will add is many of the characters back in the day didn’t belong in the scene so to speak, but were included. I will accept your list minus the UCS figures - that’s pushing it! Wouldn’t be at all surprised if there’s no 3rd figure! But, I’d be surprised given Obi-wan’s Jedi Starfighter. The Mando & Grogu sets sounds promising and are certainly helping to ease my concerns of the direction as you say. They are big and should have lots of new figures. The summer wave sounds good for the most part; all the sets feel like they have a place. Now, some of these are rather radical! -

LEGO have a track record of good sets in principle, bad sets in practice. I am tempering my expectations, I suggest everybody doing the same. Long gone are the days of Coleman Trebor, Queen Amidala, and the whole Jedi contingent arresting Palpatine. -

Right. The smart brick system. I don’t think I need to go into the obvious flaws as most of us (if not all of us) are in agreement with them. However, what I will say is that I appreciate the underlying ethos of the 3 sets. Even if they weren’t smart brick sets (they’d be better if they weren’t!), I’d have applauded the playability and extra dimensionality of them. For the first time in a long time, I am seeing sets that are extremely playable and their creativity moves beyond the focus of hyper-realistic display models. Simply, put, there’s lots more in them to play with than what we have seen. Now, let’s imagine if LEGO went down the sound brick route instead. Most of the issues would be sorted. I think this would be a far better approach providing the sounds were (ironically) accurate. It’s so disappointing that the Cantina band tune doesn't play! Regarding the other sets, all 3 M&G/The Mandalorian sets sound intriguing, especially the Lambda! Excited to see those given the price points. Remember folks we still have more M&G sets rumoured! What I believe is the summer wave (?) sounds ok! Nothing overly exciting, but there are plenty of needed remakes there. For some of the newer stuff time will tell, and let’s hope Yoda does not have creepy eyes this time! -

Mid-scale: Hopefully the mid-scale AT-AT opens the door for an AT-TE and a Turbo Tank. I’d love the AT-TE to include a Dropship with a dropping feature included - you’d be pushing over £100, though. Really hoping for a mid-scale Naboo Royal Starship, too. -

Completely agree. If LEGO are going to scale down sets etc, battle packs are the perfect way…because they appeal to a wide variety of audiences. -

With some help from artificial intelligence, here is my latest attempt at fleshing out my new sub-theme within LEGO Star Wars - LEGO Star Wars Signatures. LEGO Star Wars Signatures is my response to what feels like an ever-growing chasm between summer wave flagship sets (i.e. CIS MTT, Imperial Star Destroyer) and UCS/MBS sets, specifically size, cost, and quality. Teenagers and/or adults with lower budgets are being priced out of quality, playsets - 18+ is not, and should not, just be about displayable/decorative sets. They're making LEGO Star Wars soulless. LEGO Star Wars Signatures sit within a collector progression path: Flagship, Signatures, UCS/MBS. In other words, an eco system for fans and collectors. Therefore, the idea is that Signatures are the gateway tier between play and prestige, creating new buyers rather than stealing them; if done right, they grow the market around UCS/MBS sets. Simply, Signatures act as a transition tier for more advanced builders and fans, where UCS/MBS sets remain as the ultimate centrepiece for collectors. And because flagship sets are reframed within this tiered collector ladder, it should strengthen the identity of these sets as playsets with lots of figures and a smaller scale because at the moment they are in a hazy identity crisis where the sets cater to very few people. Finally, Signatures are smaller in scaler, but more affordable than their MBS counterparts. They should have less figures, but will be feel more complete than a flagship equivalent i.e 2023 Yavin IV Temple. The defining feature of Signatures is their soul of UCS craftsmanship with the spirit of a playset - this is encapsulated within the core promise: "Built to play, crafted for display". This will attract older teens and adults who love LEGO but cannot invest in UCS sets while offering aspirational builds for younger fans transitioning into collector-grade LEGO. Key Features: £180-£250 Premium-feeling, yet affordable, interactive, and authentic Flagship set box-art, with premium striping around the border Accompanying builds where needed - landing platforms, display standards, environments. They must enhance the display, though, rather than inflating piece counts. Collector tile - 2x4 tile naming the set and wave number in a metallic silver print Instructions with 1-2 pages of designer notes and concept art Minifigure philosophy: where a set has 3 versions within the tier, the flagship sets should have the fewest exclusive figures, the signature version should have exclusive figures making it worthwhile for owners of the UCS/MBS to buy, and the UCS sets should have the highest quality figures. As a general rule the MBS sets have the most amount of figures. Compared to their UCS counterparts, the Signature sets should have more figures in instances where there's 1-2 figures (i.e 2025 Slave One) but less where the UCS set works similar to an MBS (i.e. 2025 Sail Barge). Signatures should have a blend of core figures, and 2-4 exclusive figures. All minifigure lineups should reference and be relative to each tier, even if hypothetically (say a flagship and a UCS set existed such as the AT-AT Walker). Examples: Tantive IV 75244 - the closest Star Wars example Milano 76286 - similar in terms of the balance between figures, display, and detail. Signatures are larger in scale, though. The Guardian Dragon 71847 - relative to the other dragons over the years Based on this, I challenge each of you to devise at least 5 set ideas - ideally, you will need to create the 3 sets per 'set idea' so they show the pathway and you can relativize the mini figures, price points, and piece counts etc. Also, any feedback is appreciated! -

I’d have never of guessed that in 2026 we would not have seen this set released. Interesting idea. I still think that battle packs and the larger battle packs would achieve the same objective, minus the Jedi/Sith. -

The development of smart brick sets only strengthens my argument. Perhaps it’s disingenuous not to have mentioned the Mando movie wave - you’d imagine a lot of the budget has gone into those! In isolation, this wave is missing 3 key/core sets, flagship style sets relative to the expected price point of January waves. The sets aren’t the worst when assessing each set individually, but as a collective there’s nothing binding it together. The engine fails to start. Granted, in today’s LSW world there are more sets spread across the year, creating more waves. So it’s hard to compare like for like, however I agree with the sentiment completely. -

I think this January wave is the true representation and result of LEGO doubling down on ‘adults welcome’. As more sets are tailored for adults, LEGO must accommodate for the younger audiences. No two ways about it, it’s a poor wave. It’s so far away from the quality LEGO Star Wars can produce. It’s not a good look after the disaster of the summer wave. -

I’ve been thinking a lot about the future direction of Lego Star Wars. With the explosion of sub themes since 2020 - and their coming, going, and eventual end of them -, including the newest arrival, that is the Busts, combined with the rumoured smart brick sets, I’m not overly optimistic how they’ll keep the theme feeling fresh. Especially as I can’t think of new sub-theme ideas they could do. So, here’s a list of traditional play-scale sets that have not been released at all, or in a specific context i.e film, scene etc, or unsatisfactorily/in need of a remake. As you will see, there’s plenty. Feel free to add any minifigures into the below if it inspires you in any way.
