ArrowBricks replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Read this promotional article on LEGO.com. https://www.lego.com/en-gb/categories/adults-welcome/article/lego-star-wars-display Broad points: 1. UCS, Helmet Collection, Diorama’s, Starship Collection, buildable droids and characters, Brickheadz are targeted for adults. 2. These sets exist to counteract the space required for UCS sets. 3. Helmets are described as compact in all dimensions 4. Larger brickbuilt droids are described as a manageable size; Buildable characters do not need much space. 5. Starship collection is on a smaller scale, a “pocket friendly”, direct alternative to UCS “titans”. 6. Display is paramount to 18+ - “It’s time to move beyond the vision of great big museum-style display cases and prove that even a single shelf can become a striking LEGO Star Wars display“. Although is it not mentioned, it is hard not to assume downscaled play-scale sets follow this same line of thought so adults can display them and children can too if they want. At some point this design philosophy and strategy will move on. I am obsessed with how this might and should look because it’s going to define the next several years once it’s implemented. Ultimately, I think it’s created a stale environment but has skyrockets profits. I won’t critique this strategy, instead I have the following questions. 1. If LEGO follow this same philosophy above, how should they have done it and how should they now do it? 2. If LEGO were to move away from this philosophy, what should the future look like? -

I guess you could add Gungans or Naboo Palace Guard etc to the AAT, if needed. Yes, I’d probably increase the Podracer set with an additional Podracer if it was to go to a higher price point. I’d probably go Ben Q and Kitster as additional figures. I quoted these in particular because: 1. I do like the idea of a Geonosian Cannon, I chose to omit it because I felt it would more likely be £24.99/£29.99 given the downscales. Perhaps it could include a Forward Command Centre. 2. Ever since I saw Hasbro’s Vintage Collction Gunship, I have wanted a Gunship with more Jedi. My idea focused on Clones as I had the SPHA-T to experiment with Jedi - on reflection I’d have included another in that set idea, Pablo-Jill. 3. This is one of my most wanted sets. Whilst Lego’s downscaled versions are welcomed, it did leave a lot to be desired. Think it would be a cracking set. -

In terms of movie waves or a series of playscale sets released within the same lifecycle window (2-3 years), these are the one’s I’d want from the Prequels. Each set provides something new. Am I underestimating the prices? Surely LEGO could do something like this? TPM: Gian Speeder £29.99: Padme Amidala (Theed), Naboo Palace Guard, Naboo Security Guard Trade Federation AAT £49.99: Nute Gunray, Battle Droid Commander, Battle Droid (x3) Naboo Starfighter vs Vulture Droid £64.99: Anakin Skywalker, R2-D2, Naboo Pilot, R2-C4, Naboo Engineer, Security Battle Droid (x2) Gungan Sub: Journey To Topeka City £89.99: Qui-Gon-Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jar-Jar Binks, Boss Nass, Captain Tarpals, Gungan Warrior Naboo Royal Starship £119.99: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Captain Paneka, Ric Olie, Jar-Jar Binks, Padme Amidala, Darth Maul, R2-D2 Boonta Eve Podrace £149.99: Anakin Skywalker, Sebulba, Qui-Gon-Jinn Watto, Fodesinbeed Annodue, Shmi Skywalker, Pit Droid AOTC: Hailfire Droid/Homing Spider Droid £39.99: Geonosian Battle Droid Commander, Geonosian Battle Droid (x3), Shaak Ti Coruscant Airspeeder Chase £49.99: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Zam Wessell Count Dooku’s Solar Sailer £64.99: Count Dooku, Yoda, FA-4 Droid Republic Gunship £159.99: Clone Pilot (x2), Yoda, Ki-Adi Mundi, Clone Trooper (x3) Republic SPHA-T £169.99: Kit Fisto, Sora Bulq, Clone Commander, Clone Captain, Clone Trooper (x2), Super Battle Droid (x3) Petranaki Arena £199.99: Count Dooku, Jango Fett, Poggle the Lesser, Boba Fett Winged Geonosian, Geonosian Picador, Geonosian Battle Droid (x3), Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Padme Amidala, Mace Windu, Coleman Trebor, Bultar Swan, R2-D2, C3-PO ROTS: 212th Clone Troopers £29.99: Phase II 212th Clone Trooper (x3), Airborne Clone Trooper, Battle Droid (x2) - Crab Droid Duel in the Senate £49.99: Darth Sidious, Yoda, Bail Organa, Phase II Clone Shock Trooper Seperatist Shuttle £59.99: General Grievous, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Magnaguard, Pilot Battle Droid Republican AT-AP Walker £74.99: Stass Allie, Commander Neyo, Phase II 91st Star Corps Trooper (x2) Duel on Mustafar £119.99: Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, R2-D2, Mustafaran, Mouse Droid - Green Jedi Interceptor Clone Turbo Tank £149.99: Luminara Unduli, Barriss Offee, Commander Gree, Phase II Kashyyyk Clone Trooper, AT-RT Driver, Tarfful, Wookie Warrior -

I’d be happy with all these, good ideas. I like all these. Bit surprised you chose a more expensive Infiltrator vs the Naboo starship, though. I actually think they should be on the shelves at the same time, they play possibilities are through the roof. Agreed, although I can’t imagine anything too special except a UCS Falcon. Just thinking of a UCS Imperial Landing Craft, that would be amazing to say the least. A moulded bantha has to be number 1 for me for ANH, it’s about time. I have always been surprised that a small Death Star Detention Cell Breakout has never been released. A couple of Death Star Troopers with Han, Luke, Chewbacca, and Leia would go well. Maybe throw a stormtrooper and an Imperial Officer in if you’d want it to be a larger playset. -

How can it be that in 2025 LSW fans were given two options to buy Jango’s Slave One: 1. £260, 2970 pcs 2. £60, 707 pcs The discrepancy in size and cost is insane. Was it greed to force more people to buy the UCS version? Was it the right decision otherwise a more expensive, but cheaper counterpart to the UCS set would have cannibalised the sales of the cash cow? Either way, this option neglects the vast majority of fans in terms of quality and affordability. A £100-£120 Slave One would have been fit for purpose. As an adult I certainly don’t want to rely on expensive UCS sets for my LEGO fix. It’s not viable in terms of space and finances. I am starting to strongly favour a minimum three-pronged release schedule for UCS sets: if a UCS set is released, there must be atleast 2 other viable alternatives released that same year, catering for both teens/adults and children. In other words, two UCS sets are being released this year. 1. Mando’s N1 - would be accompanied with an updated, better scaled and compacted N1 at around £70 and say a Smart Brick set. 2. Executor - would be accompanied by a Signatures set, and say a Microfighter. I still find it outstanding that Jabba’s Sail Barge was released for £430 after 11 years. Imagine a mid-scale and a Signatures set in that year? Perhaps the argument is that it would make the shelves look stale, but we all know it’s profit profit profit. Interested to hear thoughts. -

The Mandalorian and Grogu wave reminded me of 2008, the year that made me not like Star Wars but love it. Except M&G movie sets fall short, by some way. -

Creative idea, enjoyed reading this. I have wondered where LEGO Star Wars goes next in terms of 18+; this is certainly an option. Problem is, it requires too many sets for it to work, which move away from the traditional ethos of the theme. -

What we are seeing recently is prequel-heavy summer waves every other year. I’d expect a Gunship next year. Either way, the summer wave in principle sounds pretty good. It does help that there’s some meaty Mando & Grogu movie sets. I am most looking forward to the Imperial Shuttle as I regret not buying the Tydirium so much. The thought of a high-level buildable Yoda sounds promising too. If they get the eyes right, I will buy it. I am most intrigued about the Bespin Duel set. I would love it to be a larger playset that depicts the scene in its entirety. Can’t see a big play set, though. Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter will be nice for the new Anakin (fingers crossed), but the third figure is puzzling. There’s no obvious choice and I don’t see them replicating the V-19 Torrent style lineup - Ventress has no obvious set to be included, whereas Dooku has plenty. A Season 1-3 Ahsoka would work, but again it’s just the inverse of Ahsoka’s Jedi Interceptor. -

What I will add is many of the characters back in the day didn’t belong in the scene so to speak, but were included. I will accept your list minus the UCS figures - that’s pushing it! Wouldn’t be at all surprised if there’s no 3rd figure! But, I’d be surprised given Obi-wan’s Jedi Starfighter. The Mando & Grogu sets sounds promising and are certainly helping to ease my concerns of the direction as you say. They are big and should have lots of new figures. The summer wave sounds good for the most part; all the sets feel like they have a place. Now, some of these are rather radical! -

LEGO have a track record of good sets in principle, bad sets in practice. I am tempering my expectations, I suggest everybody doing the same. Long gone are the days of Coleman Trebor, Queen Amidala, and the whole Jedi contingent arresting Palpatine.
