Just finished building this magnificent set! I am a huge fan of 8421 (Mobile Crane) and 8258 (Crane Truck). There are my favourite Technic sets! And I had high expectations from the Arocs, which were met as I was building the set! This thing is big and so beautiful! I couldn't believe that I enjoyed more building the cab and the tipping bed. It's probably because that was when Arocs became a "real" truck! The gearbox was the part of 8258 that I loved when building and when I realized what it was capable of doing! It's been years since I built the 8258, but I do not recall many differences in the construction between the two sets. Still, great gearbox! Where the Arocs overtook my two favourite sets was when building the rear suspension and the crane! Huge, heavy, full of hoses and pneumatics! Really likes the idea of pumping air to the pneumatic with power function! Overall, the most advanced and beautiful Technic set I have! Great review Jim!

Outstanding review Tim! Thanks for your honest opinion. I just finished building the Mercedes Arocs, which the same amount of pieces, PLUS great pneumatics and power functions. And I got it nearly at half price that the Porsche (170 euros on Amazon Prime). So comparing the two sets, the Porsche is no buy. The double clutch is a great feature, but I am really dissapointed by the flappy puddle shifts behind the wheels. I'm gonna wait for more info on 42055 (my God, this thing is huge). Thanks again Tim for the great review!

As a Greek, I'm really impressed! Wow! Loved the way you did the tiles on the roofs.

8458 vs 8461
kostasm13 replied to RockeTeK's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The instructions you are looking for are in this thread on the second page. -
Many many many thanks for the instructions Therion! I was really confused with all these CAD and LDview programms. Does anybody know how many pieces are used for this set? It's about 2500 pieces the two sets combined. It would be awesome to build a 2500 pieces Technic set! I took a quick look in the instructions and it seems to be a very challenging build.

Very nice Adam the Ant! I was really looking forward for this review. Nice job! But now I've read it, it only made me more jealous that I can't afford it. Anyway, it's a great set, I hope you enjoy it before you dismantle it.

Harbor Crane 8053
kostasm13 replied to Seluryar's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The B-model is so cool! I have the 8421 Mobile Crane, so I wasn't planning to buy a similar set. But the Harbor Crane is so different and unique. -
Absolutely magnificent job! All the details are awesome. Great idea the four-seater police car, I've never seen such a car.

Just got yesterday the midi scale Millenium Falcon (7778). It's my first Star Wars set. I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, but this was a very beautiful set.

I bought a used 8480 myself a few months ago and I have this problem also. All the functions were working in the process of construction, but when I finished the model nothing worked. Anyway, I found a solution to my problem, I hope it's useful for you. As you can see in the picture, I managed to have the red button pressed down all the time. And I just turn the knobs on the two sides and everything works. I hope you will fix this, because it's a great set with awesome functions!

Awesome! Great job! My favourite building is the second from the left, with the external stairs and the roof garden!

Ok, I haven't seen the Playmobil Fun Park. If only LEGO had one in Greece. Anyway, there are two official LEGO stores, the first in Ermou steet, and the other in Golden Hall.
-
Definitely LEGO are better in so many ways. No doubts about this. Anyway, as for the popularity, speaking for Greece, in the most small local toy stores, Playmobil have larger collections, and have larger space on displays. But only LEGO has official stores. I think Playmobil are "easier" for smaller kids. 5 minutes of construction and it's playable. Whereas LEGO needs more focusing, and this might be confusing for small kids. Anyway, LEGO rocks! Playmobil sucks!

Kind of creepy topic, but great job! I really liked the way you made the toilet, the red snake for the internal organs and the red tiles for the blood! I liked also the way the truck enters the building in the loading bay.

Your favorite technic set?
kostasm13 replied to jd5775's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have thought this many times, but I can't decide. 8421, the Mobile Crane (1800 pieces) could be first. Second place the 8461, the Williams F1 Racer. And third place for 8480, the Space Shuttle and 8258, the Crane Truck. The last two represent two different eras of Technic desing and build. The 8480 was way ahead of its time and 8258 sets the standards for "next generation" Technic sets. -
Hello, this is my first topic. This is a LDD MOC of Saint Paul Cathedral in Minnesota, USA. At the official online store of Saint Paul Cathedral, you can find a replica of the Cathedral built in LEGO. You can buy the set for $20. Anyway, I thought it was a nice model so I tried to build it in Lego Digital Designer. This is the picture fron the online store. I only had this as a source for the design. I had a little problem with the back of the Cathedral, but I think I managed to do it right. Picture 1: Panoramic view Picture 2: Front view Picture 3: View form the back Picture 4: View form above This is how I managed to make the middle part of the Cathedral. I used a 2x2 plate with 1 knob which was connected with a 2x1 brick. 2 2x2 bricks at each side of the 2x1 brick and everything else above. This was the trickiest part of the building. I think it's a very beautiful set to build and display it.

Mine is Technic! Especially (mainly in the most recent sets) the part with all the gears and the mechanisms. I also like building suspensions and differentials in Racers sets.
-
First of all, I find a clear space in my desk. Books, pens etc go away! Then I use 3-4 small bowls to put the very small parts such as pins. The largest parts remain in the box and the rest on the desk. And of course I wash my hands first! I never categorise the parts like you do in the reviews. I like the searching and the swearing when I can't find a part!
-
Nice review HJR! I like big sets and I wanted to see a review about this. But I am a bit disappointed. The only fun part to build was the main hull. +1 for the Technic Parts! I love those huge gears! I haven't seen them for a long time in one of my Technic sets.

Review: 8099 Midi-scale Imperial Star Destroyer
kostasm13 replied to starstreak's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Great review! I'm not a big fan of Star Wars, but those midi-scale models are great! I'm thinking of buying Imperial Star Destroyer and Millenium Falcon just to display them. They must look awesome together!
