  1. Going way back, I remember one of the original Aquaraiders instructions from 1997 having a logo in the corner that was inconsistent with the rest of the Aquaraiders. And who can forget that Aquazone polybag set from 1998 or 1999 where the character given was a mishmash of an Aquashark and an Explorien?
  2. I'd really like that Panama Canal set. The price isn't all that ridiculous to me for being a special set, but probably going to be almost impossible to get.
  3. Looking forward to the Sydney set. I'm getting both an overpriced resell purchase of the Architecture Opera House as well as the big one for Christmas, so I want to add the third scale Opera House to my collection. The London one looks very good as well. Chicago doesn't really interest me that much, however. I hope LEGO continues this skyline theme with a version of Los Angeles, my one-time home.
  4. Hi, I'm new here, but a LEGO fan my whole life. I know this topic is a bit sensitive - let me make it clear that this is done in complete respect and honor of those who were lost on 9/11, and that if LEGO were to ever release such a set, they should donate some proceeds to the families of the victims. In any case, I have decided to dip my toe into the world of "serious" building. I've got 100,000 LEGO bricks scattered around my house, but about 99,000 of them are useless for "serious" building because they're highly specialized parts from stuff like UFO, Exploriens, Insectoids, etc. So I decided for my first serious project I'd use LEGO's Pick-a-Brick feature. I thought up my idea for this project in my mind and then ordered the pieces, so aside from two pieces, this is all from the Pick-a-Brick order. My project was to recreate the original World Trade Center as an Architecture-scale set, so I wanted to recreate the narrow windows. Using inspiration from other bigger, better renditions of the WTC, I decided to go with the radiator grilles for the windows. However, I ran into problems when I failed to realize that the bricks with knobs do not connect to each other vertically! Thus the model you see below has an entire stack of pieces with knobs pointed inward, completely useless and easily replaceable by normal 1x2 bricks. My miscalculation completely changed everything, but I got essentially what I wanted. Since the knob pieces do not connect vertically (and I miscalculated that they would), there's a gap in between each "floor" of windows. I hate the gaps and they bother me so bad, but at this point I'd have to completely rethink the model if I was to find a way to fix them. The two bigger gaps are intentional, but the smaller ones are not. I did not include the smaller buildings of the WTC but I may add them later. The dot you see is supposed to be "The Sphere," the statue at the bottom of the WTC which somehow survived the attacks. Without further ado, here is the link to view the pics. I'm terrible at pics, so you'll see anime stuff in the background! LEGO Architecture - World Trade Center I welcome constructive criticism. Please give your thoughts, especially any on how to fix the gap problem. I'm not a LEGO newbie but I didn't realize that the knobs do not connect vertically. A rookie mistake, I guess. Thoughts on scale, height, width, etc. especially the antenna, are helpful. Thank you!
  5. I'd like to see a "Stadiums" theme. Famous sports stadiums from around the world, not just the USA, though the USA would have the most to choose from. The question is, what size? More likely would be an Architecture size, but I'd like to see some around the scale of the Tower Bridge set. Obviously not minifigure scale, that's impossible. But such a theme would hook both AFOLs and kids alike. A big obstacle would be licensing - not just that LEGO would need a license, but also that most American sports are licensed by a company called Oyo. I know it's blasphemous, but I own a few of the Oyo toys, and while I appreciate the effort put into them, I think the difference in quality is rather obvious. Now, if I could make a list of stadiums I'd like to see LEGO tackle, here's what I'd go with: Rose Bowl (Pasadena, CA, USA) Wembley Stadium (London, England) Beijing National Stadium "Bird's Nest" (Beijing, China) Wrigley Field (Chicago, IL, USA) Fenway Park (Boston, MA, USA)
  6. On a related topic, there are a few sets I want (to build, not to resell). I'm wondering whether they will be discontinued soon or not, and I was wondering if anyone could give me their best guess. Just wondering if I should buy them now or later. Those sets are: Fairground Mixer Ferris Wheel Architecture Studio Lincoln Memorial Louvre Any educated guesses would help. Thanks!
  7. These are just my personal favorites, I'm sure not many agree: 1.Ice Planet 2002 2. Unitron 3. Spyrius 4. M:Tron 5. Blacktron II
  8. I've been on a collecting spree lately. I got the Millennium Falcon, AT-AT, MTT, V-Wing Starfighter, B-Wing... and still have the X-Wing, Snowspeeder, Battle on Saleucant & Ewok Village yet to build. (The V-Wing & Saleucant were mainly for pieces that I wanted to use otherwise.) The AT-AT is the most impressive so far, hard to believe how robust and strong that thing is. The contrast between this Falcon and the previous 2 Falcons is huge - it's very clear that the LEGO designers are much better at engineering than they were in the past. Same goes for the MTT. Both my original Falcon and MTT were two of the flimsiest sets I've ever had and could never stay together. Very frustrating for a 15-year-old (as I was) who wanted to play with them. (Don't even mention those original 1999 podracers...)
  9. Like most of you, I'm all into the Original Trilogy. I also try to not pick up sets that I had in the past (X-Wing, Snowspeeder, B-Wing, etc.) unless they're greatly improved, as I want a new building experience, plus I figure it would always be possible to rebuild those past sets which are now in pieces. I'll make exceptions for the prequels if they're really good sets. I thought in particular Palpatine's Arrest was quite unique and I am very satisfied with it.
  10. This is one I'd really like to get, given that I've actually been to the site. If it looks too small for people to fit in it, that's because it is: it was built specifically for the Kaufmann family who were very short, and Frank Lloyd Wright didn't like wasting space. So he made pretty much every ceiling height 5 feet tall. There were some areas you'd literally have to squeeze your body to get through during the tour.
  11. Really disappointing to me that this got the green light. If they had gone with a full laboratory with some real substance to it, it would be interesting. Instead it's not much more than 3 polybag sets with several rare pieces included.
  12. Best: Probably the Queen Amidala minifigure I want so bad. Worst: One of the first-ever released Star Wars sets was the Speeder Bikes, with these as Scout Troopers: Any slight movement of the helmet caused yellow to be sticking out of the Trooper's mask. I resorted to simply taking droid heads from Insectoids and turning them around in order that there wouldn't be any embarrassing yellow. (One good thing about the face: it allowed me to make a Darth Sidious character, as his face was never shown in Episodes I or II.) Also, got to throw in Battle Droids. They stay together for maybe a minute at a time before completely falling apart. Oh, and their hands often crack, to make matters worse.
  13. I'm a long-time LEGO fan who has experienced several dark ages along the way to getting all-out back into LEGO building again. Here's my Brickset collection for your perusal: http://brickset.com/sets/ownedby-Crazy-Packers-Fan I was actually brought into LEGO by the knockoff TYCO blocks when I was very young, and thus I played with DUPLO as well. Finally I graduated to LEGO, with my first-ever set being the Blacktron II Tri-Wheeled Tyrax. This would be the start of my love for Space. For Christmas in 1995, my grandfather bought me a ton of sets, including the Unitron Monorail Transport Base. This set remained the centerpiece to my LEGO collection until the beginning of my dark ages in 2003. From 1996-2000, I collected nearly every single LEGO System set available. I had them all. (Except for sets with witches & ghosts, we as children weren't allowed to have those.) And living in a small house, my parents would often get angry when I'd bring home yet another set, because sets were just piling on top of each other. I made the grievous error of supergluing pieces together. My sister and I would start building some sort of projects, and we'd tell each other, "we never want to build anything else besides this ever again." (Folly!) So as I've gone back through my pieces, I've had to throw out quite a few pieces which were damaged due to super glue. While I collected every single Space set from Ice Planet (my favorite!) to Insectoids, having all sorts of Adventurers, Aquazone, Town, Pirates, Trains, etc. sets means that while I have probably around 75 grand pieces, very few of them work well with each other. My collection is just far too diverse! It makes it very difficult for trying to build something serious. I came out of my dark ages in 2010 when I became aware of the Death Star. It was absolutely so amazing that I couldn't pass it up. Unfortunately, in a hurry to get a "good deal," I bought it off eBay for a reasonable price - but quite a few pieces were missing. Most of them I was able to fill in with my own collection, and some of them the seller sent to me later, but it unfortunately made the building experience a frustrating one. I slipped back into dark ages after that, although it's true that even during both of my dark ages, my sister and I would build something from time to time. LEGO never truly went away in our house. And now, it's 2014, and I'm back into LEGO - and it has nothing to do with the movie. In fact, I have not seen the movie, and the trailers for it have actually made me NOT want to see it (too kiddy, too obnoxious for me). Last month while watching the World Cup, I put back together my entire Ice Planet 2002 collection (only a little more to go on the base). I fixed up my Space Police II & Blacktron II sets as well. Then I decided to buy a couple of Space Police I sets off eBay, as well as nearly the entire M:Tron collection. (That Mega Core Magnetizer is one of the greatest sets of all time, no doubt.) I'm not a reseller, although I have tons upon tons of pieces that I could sell if I wanted to. My goals in the near future are to collect more Star Wars sets - especially ones I never had older versions of - and to continue to check eBay and Bricklink for older Space sets, particularly Space Police I & Blacktron II. Thanks for reading, I hope to spend some time here!
  14. I also picked up the recently retired Desert Skiff off eBay. In order to get it at pretty much retail value, I had to buy it in 2 purchases, and eschew the new Boba Fett minifigure. I'm okay with having the older Boba Fetts. I really just wanted the Sarlacc pit as well as Lando in his costume.
  15. Has anyone got the new Star Destroyer yet? I was really hoping to find out some extra information about it beyond just the LEGO.com description... of the August releases, it's the one that interests me the most. (Sandcrawler too, but I don't have the $300 for it.)
  16. Prequel sets I'd like to see: Theed Throne Room - I know a Queen Amidala minifigure was finally released with the Gungan Sub (???), but I'd love to see a set with the queen, her handmaiden and the original chancellor guy in her throne room, with the Separatists arresting her. Galactic Senate - Either a version from Episode I with the queen and Palpatine, or one from Episode III with the Sidious vs. Yoda fight (this one would sell better). Include 4 or 5 of the Senate mini-ships. Gungan Underwater City - Yeah, yeah, I know, the Gungans are about as unpopular as it gets in Star Wars. Still, I am disappointed that there's never been a Boss Nass or an official Captain Tarpals. Either that, or the scene where Padme begs Boss Nass and the Gungans to help them. In any case, I want to get new characters we've never had before. Original Trilogy sets I'd like to see: UCS Millennium Falcon - Not just a 2nd chance for those of us who were in our dark ages to get a UCS Falcon, but Nien Nunb absolutely needs to be released! Put out a UCS Falcon that includes both the original Falcon crew, as well as the Falcon crew from Return of the Jedi (Lando & Nien Nunb especially). It's a shame Nien Nunb hasn't ever been released, because he plays a part in the most exhilarating scene in all of the movies in my mind - when the Falcon just ever so barely escapes the Death Star II's explosion. What a moment that is. Dagobah- someone suggested this earlier and I think it would be great. Include Yoda's hut, the place where Luke fights Vader (with a Vader minifigure with Luke's exact face inside the mask), some various vines and other stuff, and a log for a new ghost Kenobi minifigure to sit down on and talk to Luke. I don't see a need for a X-Wing personally, but if that will help it sell, add it in. Can't agree more. Basically make this one their $300 set for the year and go all out with it.
  17. I bought Palpatine's Arrest from Toys 'R' Us last week. I'm pleasantly surprised with it.
