    I can't see any flex in the mandibles when I slide it into place. I don't leave it on long term though, pretty sure the weight would have some impact after a few months. I hear about people with flexing mandibles. I figure they have altered the interior and taken away some of the internal bracing. When building, there's a row of 1x2 jumpers on the body, and after attaching the mandible there's a plate which holds it to these jumpers. That appears to be the main part which stops drooping.

    Have fun! I found it an odd width to fit between the mandibles, 9 studs, so everything was 4 + 4 + 1, or 8 + 1. Not neat.

    I didn't think it should be too wide at the front. I just extended the lines of the mandibles till they tapered down to what I thought was a reasonable nose width. My other option was a whole 6x3 wedge plate shorter which I felt was definitely too wide across the front. I think you might be right by about 2 studs, but... this is the parts I had on hand. We'll see in May won't we?

    Every fan by now knows of the "Kessel run" Millennium Falcon which we'll see in the May 2018 Solo movie which has a cargo pod extension between the mandibles. Lego released a midi-scale version (set 75212) early in 2018. I searched around but couldn't find anybody who had attempted this addition to the 75192 UCS Millennium Falcon, so I gave it a go myself. There's no list of parts and it is way too heavy, it's just what I could do with the parts on hand. Here's some pictures: It slots in place with the long plate-with-rail on each mandible sliding into a groove in the side of the cargo pod.

    Well sure if I say I bought the set and it's missing that super rare piece. I have wondered about doing that. I wouldn't call it a white lie though. It's straight-up scamming a company. I know it's going to cost me dearly but nope, can't do it.

    Here's an update on this topic from someone who has almost finished Bricklinking the additional pieces to upgrade a 10179 to the new 75192 Millennium Falcon. My final parts orders are arriving in the next 2 weeks. I've spent $430 including postage on the additional pieces and have everything taken care of except for the main cockpit window. I asked LEGO when / whether the new cockpit pieces would be available to purchase and they told me that LEGO are not licensed to sell Starwars parts by Disney, only Starwars sets. Therefore the unique Starwars cockpit parts will never be available to buy from LEGO. That news made me very, very sad...     Here's an update for the Bricklinkers. I placed my last part order yesterday at LEGO Bricks & Piecex for parts which were not as readily available on Bricklink. I also emailed LEGO asking about the availability of the new cockpit window pieces. They tell me that the cockpit window pieces will never be available to purchase individually as LEGO are not licensed by Disney to sell them. Major disappointment. Not sure what I will do for those last few pieces. Can't justify spending over $100 on them. Thinking might need to MOC something, maybe blend in the original 10179.

    That's a good idea. Doesn't work this time sadly. Just ran the remaining list through Rebrickable. There's no existing sets that contain more than 25% of the parts I require, and all the sets listed are more expensive than just buying the pieces from Lego directly.

    I Bricklinked the old one too. I just keep adding onto the brick collection what I need to build another model. So I can't build multiple models at the same time but I have the required parts to build the AT-AT, AT-ST, Clone Turbo Tank, TIE, Venator, Super Star Destroyer, and Millennium Falcon.

    I am Bricklinking old Falcon to new Falcon myself, and comparing the parts lists (from rebrickable.com) there's A LOT of parts which have changed colour. I believe this is because sets these days use coloured pieces internally to help you locate and orientate, so it's been modernised. Still, about 50% of the pieces are not common between the models so be prepared to buy a lot. Costing me about $370 for the additional parts, not including the 6 new designs which I'm waiting (and hoping) to appear on Lego's Bricks & Pieces site in February. I've made 4 Bricklink orders and only have the 1 Lego Bricks & Pieces order to go for 450 of the rarest parts ($95). Note that I have more than just the 10179 to source parts from, so yours might cost more.

    Yep. Looking forward to the next month or so, bricklinking the parts to transform a 10179 into the new 75192. I'm only doing the exterior, which shouldn't cost heaps due to it mostly being small greebling parts. Also assuming I'll be able to order the new cockpit and a few other rare pieces from Lego soon.

    Finally received mine today. Ordered in the Lego AU site on the 1st June, backordered/delayed till 1st July, received 19th July. As far as I can tell nothing has changed. Step 5 shifter friction is the same. Step 268 gearbox is the same. No obvious extra pages or paperwork. I will be making these changes and hopefully it all works out anyway. My thoughts on the gear sequence, which I have not tested: A jamming will only happen if a gear on the left side of the gearbox and a gear on the right engage at the same time. When you shift through the Lego designed gearbox 1,3,2,4 vs the mod gearbox 1,2,3,4 could the gear in use swap sides less often thereby less opportunities to jam? Edit: I realised overnight that the way the shifters work the changing of gears alternates side regardless of mod. Ah well.

    To use Brickficiency effectively I ran it first, noted which items only came up in a few stores and removed those items from the calculations and ran again. I found that if an item is only available in 5 stores, Brickficiency will be forced to use one of those stores thereby not giving you the cheapest price possible. Of course had to balance this with making as few orders as possible. It's a balancing act - there will always be a trade-off somewhere. Took me 21 orders. Should have been less. There's nothing worse than placing your final big orders and then the order being screwed up and having to place another order for missing pieces.

    I didn't get any minifigures - if you bought all 5 of the originals there's a few dollars/pounds there.

    Mine was $1090 AU 1 year ago with some un-noticeable part substitutions. ($920 parts, $170 postage across 22 orders).

    Folks following this thread might appreciate someone saving you a few dollars. When I Bricklinked the 10179 last year I spent a LOT of time finding ways to reduce the cost. I have a table listing the part substitutions I made over on my page http://merigan.tk/lego/blog.php#save. Swapping out these pieces reduced the price by $800, including the $130 boat rigging pieces on the engine and the $80 radar dish.

    To store the Lego for this project I decided to make a box as close to the original box as I could get. There are no high quality images of the 10179 box online that I could find so I made my own using a lot of sample images from around the web of the Lego logo, Darth Vader, mini-figs, matched the font, etc. The only section I didn't do was the barcode and country of origin stuff on the bottom edge because I couldn't find a reference image to know what it should look like. Images are at my blog if anyone wants to download them and do the same, or just see the result of the work.
