LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 7 Discussion
Magnus the Great replied to whung's topic in Special LEGO Themes
A valkyrie could be easy to arrange. Just replace the horns with a pair of dragon wing plumes. If it is the same type of horn as before, the wings will fit. Dragon Wing Plume @ BrickLink Reference Catalog -
LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 7 Discussion

Please, let this be true. Bride: Can always use a bride. The silver tiara & vail is awesome. Viking: I few female vikings may take place among my civilian population. The hair & helmet seems to be one part as it is in the case of POTC. To bad but the rest is great. Tarzan: I may not need another bare torso but I can always find use for one. Scottish bagpiper: I have wanted a bagpipe since BF made instruments. Hippie: A new flower stem & another great hair! Space Marine: Don't taze me, bro! I'll take 3. Black Knight: Knights are always welcome & it will be its own faction. Need 4-6. Little red riding hood: Yes, yes, yes. -
songwm, Ogre Thanks! ExpiredHero I understand your stance. The dragon knights are to nice to be bad guys & I experience the same flux, I guess. With the Kingdom's Joust, I must revise my lion knights & my dragon faction is still growing. ziljin I don't have a single intact horse barding. You have 53. Impressive cavalry! Echo It might not be an army but still, your squadron is larger than my average faction. Nice fellows! lego tripper Thanks! One-Eyed Mo: BF Pauldron & TLC mohawk (painted). P-Tail: BF Ponytail & SDT Jinbaori.

New Lego 10223 Kingdoms Joust Exclusive
Magnus the Great replied to I Scream Clone's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
My first impression was: awesome set. Plenty of minifigs, a new faction, a new lady, roofed towers, a grand entrance & so on. As I looked closer at it, I was a bit disappointed. The Lion Prince is great but hardly the most desired (imho). This means we have three different male leader minifigs for the lions. The first from King's Castle & the second from King's Carriage Ambush. There is still no noble leader for the dragons, unless you count the warlock or the champion. Since I prefer several small factions than a few large, I wish the black knight's arms, the bird to be exact, differed more from the old black falcons. Maybe a bird with its wings retracted. I will nevertheless use him for a new faction. Where are the squires? Replace the guards with squires. Squires are crucial for a set like this. Only one civilian, an ostler? This is a perfect set to add a few civilians. Four nobles is two too many. Among previous comments there seems to be concern that the Kingdoms Joust means the end of Kingdoms-line. If we compare it with MMV it is quite possible. However, I see good possibilities to expand Kingdoms Joust with a medieval fair or a joust addon set. The later would only require a knight, a squire & a tent, oh & a new faction. I believe Kingdoms Joust marks the start of a new faction. Whether or not the black knight is a Dragon knight in disguise or a Neo Black Falcon doesn't matter. His torso is generic so it is for you to decide. For me it is a new faction - Black Eagles. I will replace his plume with a white BF Double Plume. As usual it sucks to live in Sweden. Retail price is 1399 sek (212 usd, 152 eur). I see a lions head. -
Forgot to post my seven demons who brings chaos and destruction through the empire. I'm really not into the whole fantasy genre in my Lego world. At the same time I like them. They are to good to waste. Do not know what role they can play in my empire, but for now I use them as outlaws, dressed up as demons, using scare tactics to overwhelm their prey. From left to right: Scarecrow, The Headless Legonian, One-Eyed Mo, Grim Reaper, P-Tail, Drummer Boy & good ol' Jolly R. ExpiredHero "the honorable Dragon Knights" "the foul and perverse Lion Knights" I guess the Dragon Knights are the good guys & the Lion Knights are the bad guys in your kingdom. Interesting choice of torso for your flail men. Are you using the shoulder strap as a scabbard? I always try to use shoulder strap-torsos combined with arrow quivers, pauldrons or capes. Sometimes I make exceptions. Anyways, nice setup.

Good, then I can sleep in peace. Nice to see some 80's round shields in your latest Falcon picture. That's a shield I would like to see TLC make in pearl dark gray. Thank you! I feel sorry for Crownies. Their flanks have fallen.

WW Category 2: The Town of Brick Rush
Magnus the Great replied to Cara's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Nice landscaping. The slope is awesome. Is it 4x2 reddish brown wedge plates i see? -
Ogre Understandable, but they'd still have to rely on guerrilla tactics. Poor fellows. songwm Those are some big numbers and yes, well presented. Your Black Falcons & Crownies seem to be a bit better balanced than the Scorpions. Black Falcons & Crownies have archers, swordsmen, pikemen, and spearmen while the Scorpions mostly seem to have axemen among their foot soldiers. However, it's a bit hard to tell by the picture.

How Many Minifigs do you own?
Magnus the Great replied to Millacol88's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I had to count them, when I saw this topic. I have 698 assembled minifigs. Most of them lack some part such as weapon, helmet or shield. Castle factions: 460 Castle civilians: 172 Castle fantasy: 23 Castle total: 655 My Castle line includes minifigs or minifig parts from CMF, HP, IJ, PotC, PoP, SW, Western & a few other themes. The sex ratio is horrible 11,84 males per female or 604 males & 51 females. In addition to the above i have Miniquins: 20 Space: 13 (Classic, Futuron & SW) CMF Cheerleaders: 4 Misc: 6 Unassembled minifigs Minifigs used for spare parts: 158 Old, used & not worthy: 92 -
WW Category 3: "Fair" Harry (1840-1881)
Magnus the Great replied to Yatkuu's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Funny! The Fair Harry-pun and the TLC-horse logo made my day. Is the wagon cover made of paper? -
Hun Thanks, that made it clearer. I looked at your Brickshelf catalog, & I like how you vary weapon types & balance your armies. I'm trying to do the same thing but sometimes I make exception. TheLegoDr Thanks! As Quichybo said, it's from Prince of Persia, set 7569: Desert Attack, or set 7573: Battle of Alamut. One good thing about the torso is that both sides work as front. A bad thing is the light flesh part of the torso.

Crazy, cool & gold rush are the right words to describe it. It's a train that doesn't get robbed of its cargo, but its parts. I doubt it will ever return to its hometown.

Time to share some more. This time, I have three desert factions. It is perhaps not right to use a European title for a nobleman from a desert, but I figured they are part of the same empire & court as the others. Baron Driss Baron Driss: I felt compelled to change their black arms to dark bluish gray. Otherwise it was too dark. Baron Driss is named after a hotel. Baroness Djerid Baroness Djerid: I try to use plain torsos as often as I can (which isn't very often). Think it works here when other parts cover a bit. Four parts are painted: the keffiyeh, both bandanas & the BF turban. I named Baroness Djerid after a famous filming location. Baron Soltane Baron Soltane: named after a famous filming location.

What castle factions/subtheme do you want?
Magnus the Great replied to K-Nut's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Agree, a peasant uprising battlepack with 5-6 new, different torsos & another pack with misc. females - in cardboard boxes. Good point of view. That should be possible to implement. -
I'm not too keen on the colors, but some parts make me happy. The fact that there are no open arrowslit on the ground level is a big plus. I've never understood the point of it in an era with bow and arrow. The bridge behind the horse is a nice touch. Is it possible to hoist it up?
-
I don't know if it is a misprint but I have eleven Crown shields where the dark blue & medium blue fields are flipped. Got all of them in set 5615: The Knight. One Fantasy Era-torso has blue/dark blue quarters instead of medium blue/dark blue. LandShark That pig reminds me of Heidi the cross-eyed opossum.

K-nut A religious leader? That might work. If you don't mind third-party products, BrickWarriors sells minotaur heads. Not cheap but it can create some variation in a minotaur army. http://brickwarriors.com/ Bearded Castle Guy Always nice to see a so called bad faction outnumber the good guys. Is that about 70 Dragon Knights? ziljin When you say you want 100 of each castle faction, do you mean 100 CMF Evil Dwarfs or do you plan to group them with others? Hun Great staging! How many banners in each faction & how large is each faction. Ogre Wow, 150 men under the Scorpion King's command! I guess your trolls & vikings are spending more time fleeing than in combat? madoka If I attempt to keep up with you, I would run out of time.

Does anyone know if Lego has released a formal leader of the Dragon Knights? K-nut The Gladiator does match well with the barbarians & the Gamorrean Guard with the orcs. I guess the zombies from Pirates of the Caribbean, Dobby from HP & Yoda from Star Wars might blend with the Orcs as well. Nice mix of red & white plumes among your Lion Knights. I'm missing that Lion King from King's Carriage Ambush. I want him but I don't know which faction he can lead. My Lion Knights already have a leader in Duke Aslan.

Yes, but the CMF Viking has a chain mail under his jacket. At Wikipedia one can read the following: "A wealthy Viking would have a complete ensemble of a metal helmet, wooden shield, mail shirt, and animal-skin coat, among various other arms and accoutrements of war. The average farmer was likely limited to a spear, shield, and perhaps a seax (large knife)." That's about the same as I've learned in school. Maybe I'm too meticulous about it since I'm Swedish. Anyway, I'm thinking of painting a few shields to get more variety.

I really like the smallest of details, such as the hen's egg.

Shields cost a lot but I usually prefer having a shield than without. It also depends on what weapon the minifig has & what kind of warrior it is. Archers & warriors, with two-hand grasped weapons doesn't need a shield. A tribe living in a remote jungle, mountain or desert might not want to carry a heavy shield. Regarding Vikings, I have been taught shields were very common. Swords, on the other hand, were unusual because it takes a lot more metal to make a sword than a spear or a battle-ax. Thus was a spear the most common weapon, followed by a battle-ax & a sword. Helmets fitted with horns is a big no-no. It's kind of like dressing a hockey player in a tutu. I wish Lego could make a couple of average vikings without a chain mail or helmet. A simple viking with an animal-skin armor, a cap, a wooden shield & a spear or a small axe. After all, it is a Danish company. But then again, it's Lego. It is far from being historically accurate. Assemble your troops as you please. For my Vikings I try to mix torsos, headgear, weapons and shields as much as possible. Some have helmets, others have hair, hats or hoods.

To say the least. These are from my original collection. Bought and played with in the 80's. I have changed my behavior since then. I always wash my hands before I use my Lego and I avoid touching the print. The minifigs are stored in boxes to protect them from sunlight. They stand on plates one stud apart so the print can't be rubbed off. Hopefully, modern prints are made in better quality. I bought a few classic castle torsos a few months ago but they were excellent. I might buy some more crusaders but only if the print still remains.

Yes, the one with the biggest wallet can build the biggest army, the biggest moc, or the biggest red castle. Ironically, your comment is the opposite of the essence of Lego. Leg godt, or play-well in english. Who are you to decide how to play with Lego? I do not want play by your rules, standards, philosophy, morals, or level. It's no fun for me. I for one want to see how other equip, group, mix & balance their factions. Therein is my pleasure. It is linked to what I do. I'm building a minifig aristocracy. I want to create a map like Khorne and a background story like ziljin. The title says "Post Your Castle Army Here". It gives a fairly wide interpretation. Nothing about size, nothing about budget, nothing about creativity. Of course, armies that departs from Lego's original design is for me the most interesting, but I still find a default, purist army fascinating, whether it is size or how it is balanced. Lego has more than one perspective.

So many things I like as the crane, the shield & the windows. I usually have a larger fence as a window but your solution is significantly better. It is symmetrical.

What castle factions/subtheme do you want?
Magnus the Great replied to K-Nut's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
In the current Castle theme I want a peasant uprising, a clan faction like scottish highlanders or maybe barbarians like vikings. Other themes I want in the future: Sparta vs Athen Rome vs Carthage Saracens Persians
