  1. Hi Guys. Here are my first two 9398 based crawlers. The tracktor is my personal favorite - it is 20g lighter then the Evil Crawler with netweight of 770g. (excluding battery - 200g and balancing weights - 100g). Using a DC/DC converter to keep a constant voltage of 11.8V and a 8.4V third party Li Ion battery. A second 9398 set is on its way and I hope to be able to build more complex models then :) 1. 2. Check this out: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=97878&hl=crawler
  3. Hi All, I am new to LDD - intending to build my own rock crawler. I installed the software today and also downloaded LDD Partfinder. I have L-motors and I am not really sure if they are present in LDD. I am using extended mode. When I search for "motor" I find a small motor, func. motor 24x6M and func.motor 40x6M. Not sure how to read this?? Thanks a lot!!!!
  4. 4 x L motors should be no problem especially if you increase the voltage and keep it constant (see link in my post above). You can check this: http://philohome.com...p.htm#Synthesis @MBMC, could you share LDD file? :)
  5. That's the smartest design I've ever seen - the idea with no suspension is phenomenal!!! Huge congrats!!! I own the 9398 set but I am not satisfied at all - tunned it a lot but still nothing :) It comes with 2 x L-motors and a servo motor. Today I will order two more L-motors and a second receiver and start building something like your crawler in LDD (haven't used LDD before). I use these on my 9398 to increase power and get constant voltage for the motors: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-6400mAh-8-4V-Battery-Pack-Pouch-For-CREE-XM-L-T6-LED-Bike-Head-Lamp-Light-/111308082933?pt=UK_ConsumerElectronics_Batteries_SM&hash=item19ea7a8ef5 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350963713406?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Wish me luck :) can't wait to start!!!
  6. Sorry, not a native English speaker and I don't know which keywords to use for my search on bricklink or ebay The black gear rack seems to be it - just not sure if it is the exact same size as on the video. Also there are two small red axles and the small black parts that are connected to the gear rack via the red axles. How are these axles and small black parts called? I am just expecting my crawler to arrive and I am planing a really nice mod - already bought custom tires, Li-ion battery, 8/24 gears, will increase voltage a bit and modify to LSD diff :) so last mod left is the steering angle so I can direct it better when crawling Thanks a lot!!
  7. Nope, the gray parts are the ones included in the set. I would like to buy the black ones to increase steering angle. It seems to consist of three different parts and I need to know how they are called or their spec. numbers in order to find and buy them on ebay. And also can they be used in the set without any further mod. Thanks!!
  8. Can someone please tell me which lego-parts are these - In the video you see them on s. Thanks a lot!!: and can they just replace the original ones without any further mods? Thanks a lot!!
  9. Thanks Hrontos!! I know about the capacity of the battery - thats why I already ordered this one: http://www.ebay.com/...984.m1497.l2649 even if it has only 1/3 of the promised capacity combined with the one I already have it should give me hours of fun with the Crawler :) Today I will order the regulator - it is also available in my country so I will get it very soon. 9.6V sound fantastic! On the regulator I will buy I get 3 something usable amper on the output. At 4A it switches off. Do you guys think this will be enough for the 2 x L-motors and the new servo motor? Stalled current 2 x 1.3A (L-motor) + 900mA (Servo motor) = 3.5A. I don't think I can bring all 3 motors to their stalled current at the same time very often. Especially with the 8/24 gears. Do I get this right? Here a refference to the motors: Servo (see at the very bottom): http://www.philohome...rvo/pfservo.htm and the L-motors: http://www.philohome.com/motors/motorcomp.htm
  10. Thank you.. but as Philo states on his site you get a whole lot more RPMs with 9 or 10 volt: 7.5 V 6.48 N.cm 203 rpm 0.48 A 1.38 W 3.60 W 38 % 9 V 6.48 N.cm 272 rpm 0.49 A 1.85 W 4.41 W 42 % 10.5V 6.48 N.cm 338 rpm 0.49 A 2.30 W 5.15 W 44 % http://www.philohome.com/motors/motorcomp.htm Then using the 8/24 gears you get a lot more torque, right? If I could run it on 9 volt it would be just great.. if I am not mistaking something
  11. Wow.. thanks!! This is really important. Are there any PWM regulators that will work? If there are none - how about connecting the battery pack to the IR reciever directly and run the crawler on 7,4 volt? Maybe any other ideas on how to increase voltage on the motors by using this same battery pack? I know about the Eneloops and using eight of them.. but I want to use my present battery and charger. Plus it might be interesting for other crawler owners Thanks!! p.p. I love Lego Don't expect same performance as of RC car but want to get the maximum of the crawler.
  12. Thanks!! The idea is to increase voltage on on the both L-motors but not on the servo - this should improve performance a lot Still need to know if it is possible at all with the intended setup.. thanks a lot!!
  13. Hi guys, I am just expecting my 9398 to arrive soon and would like to be prepared with rechargeble battery supply. I do have a bike lamp which operates with this Li-ion battery pack here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Led-Lamp-6400Mah-18650-8-4v-battery-Pack-for-xml-T6-P7-LED-lamp-/251001613660?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Camping_LightsLanternsTorches&hash=item3a70dcad5c and the charger for it. So, I would like to use the pack also on the crawler. The pack consists of 2 x 2 18650s connected in parallel and then connected together in serial. I am not an electrician but the output voltage should be something between 8,1 volt (measured today after a fully charging) and 7,4 volt after some usage. So I was thinking to use the above battery and increase the voltage on the motors by using 2 of this regulators: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321283653204?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 One regulator after the IR-receiver and before each motor. Possible?? If not, how about connecting the battery pack directly to the IR-receiver? I saw some tests and the crawler performs quite well with the Lego Li-Po battery. What do you think performance-wise?? Best regards, Daniel
  14. Hi legoman666, if I use same setup es yours on a 9398 Crawler with battery mod: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Led-Lamp-6400Mah-18650-8-4v-battery-Pack-for-xml-T6-P7-LED-lamp-/251001613660?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Camping_LightsLanternsTorches&hash=item3a70dcad5c with the same regulator set to 10v output will it work? The crawler has 2 x L-motors and 1 x servo. Even if it works fine I am afraid that the servo motor might start braking/disassembling the car as written by someone else on the forum.. can't find the topic. Thanks a lot!!
  15. How about using this regulator to have 9v for longer time: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350963713406?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  16. Wow.. perfect.. thanks!! Just need to decide now with wich solution to go - Li-Ion or NiMh: post11: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=95405 post23: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=72170 The regulator is very interesting - from what I see it can output even currency (e.g. 9 or 10 volt) even if there is less on the input. Read also here.. need to read it again myself :) Btw. do you guys receive an email notifications when on topic replies? I don't even if it is set up in my account :( BR, Daniel
  17. Thanks, I know that.. I was just wandering how long it rides with alkaline batteries so I can ruffly compare how long will it ride with NIMH batteries.
  18. I just found following: http://budgetlightforum.com/node/9373 Seems that Eneloops have higher voltage right after charging.. around 1,45V. This probably means 8 of them can damage the receiver in long term so maybe use just 6 in the standard BB??
  19. Hi All, for my 9398 crawler I decided to go with 8 x AA Sanyo Eneloops as shown at the very end of this thread: http://www.doktor-brick.de/board7-bauen/board20-lego-tipps-und-tricks/490-batterien/ The question is which Eneloops to order - 1900mAh or 2550mAh? 8 x 2550s = 20400mAh are appr. 24 Pounds and 16 x 1900s = 30400mAh are appr. 30 Pounds. What would be best? Thanks a lot!!
  20. Hi guys, just ordered my 9380 and 3rd party tires yesterday. Looked a lot but can't find info on how long the crawler runs with the original battery box (appr. in hours). Can someone share please? I'm sure I will have a lot of fun with it since nearby I have a great park with lots of offroad spots :) so I consider getting/building a spare battery box. Thanks a lot!!
  21. Thanks Efferman!! Then I am glad I bought the soft tires.. only if the diameter was a bit larger.. but that should be fine as well. How about putting some weight in the tires to make the crawler more stable??
