A wise man once said, "there's no such thing as a free lunch". Or a Lego brick as it seems. Siriusly though, I doubt that very many people fell for it, but NOBODY on a Lego forum would pass on the chance, unlikely as it was, that someone would give away their Lego. It was the perfect joke. Somebody should have front-paged it .

I have to say that I am very sorry to see you go, but lets make sure that your sets don't go to waste . Are you planning on abandoning EB as well? I'll take everything that hasn't been taken by the other seven pages of people. HP themed parts, flesh figures, and sets especially. I also find myself in need of tan, lots and lots of tan. I would appreciate any (Or all ) of the above that you are willing to give. . Btw, if this is real, I will be shocked. Pleasantly shocked, but still shocked. Don't get your hopes up folks, if he was getting rid of it, there's a handy thing called eBay for getting rid of stuff . And why wouldn't he expect a big response for free Lego on a Lego forum? That is some great photography! I love the foxhole shot. Good Work! How long does each shot take on average to prepare?

Eurobricks: Strategic change!
Sirius Black replied to Bonaparte's topic in Forum Information and Help
I am intrigued. Will we see a return of Fabulandish figures, or will TLG try to use regular figures? Does anyone have any idea? We are going to have to use a different term than HK, as it is too similar to Harry Potter's HP. Or are we just moving away from Legos entirely and going to official HK products . Oh, and by the way, the next Lego game has been revealed, along with a new theme for 2012, check it out here! It is absolutely awesome . Sirius -
I picked up the old Kittyhawk aircraft carrier from Megablocks about five years ago, and while the quality was poor (bad gripping, STAMPS everywhere , and the annoying tendency of the model falling apart in the middle of the build), it looked fairly good. The only thing that I like about Megabloks is their bricks with studs on both sides. Those have been invaluable for a few of my projects. Of course, any other mega****s besides the ones mentioned early are taken care of .

Welcome to EB Dongo, and great work on your MOC that you just posted! Looking forward to seeing more from you in the future! Sirius

I particularly liked Defs first banner, but I decided to vote for Rufus's because it incorporates more than just one portion of SW.

This is absolutely amazing! The scale is incredible, and as such, the detail is done brilliantly given the scale you had to work with. Many buildings of this size are fairly monotonous, but this building is able to use the scale well. I agree with Duke, the windows shown there are spectacular. I think I'll have to steal your technique, if you don't mind . Is this done to Miniland scale? Sirus

Wow! Many thanks to LT for posting that image. That is an absolutely incredible work Dongo! The temple architecture and tiling in particular stand out. The gates are incredible, the temple at the back with the statue is amazing, the courtyards are superb, I could just keep going on and on about this. This is absolutely brilliant! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your works! Hey LightningTiger, any chance you can give us a link to the photos, or possibly post more? Sirius

Do you buy 1 set to play with and 1 to keep sealed?
Sirius Black replied to thegurumb's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well, used sets typically are for my use only, but if a really good sell comes along (e.g. the original Jango Fett figure). I'll sell it, and pick up as many new sets as I can with the money. It has worked out very well for me so far. I sold the original At-At for $300 in 2007 before the new ones came out, and that would have given me the ability to get three of the new ones. But, the money ended up being used on other sets, so I am currently At-At-less . Not that I didn't like the $300 of sets that I got in '07 . The biggest case of multiples that I have gotten and kept sealed is a lot of 20 Clone Walker Battle Packs, but my willpower is weakening there as well. . -
Great Work The bus in particular stands out to me, I like the curve for the back of the bus roof, and the window patterning on the sides, along with the color transition from the grey of the base to the white of the body of the bus. The building is great! It reminds me of a few that I have seen while touring the Florida panhandle. It really captures some of the architecture that you can find there. The light blue accents are well done, and give it just enough color to keep it from feeling bland. (Edit) Just realized that it does have an interior, going to go look at it now. Sirius

The design is good, but like ZORK, i haven't seen it, so I can't vouch for its accuracy. I do particularly like the head design, it is designed well.
-
This is spectacular! I am particularly impressed with the interior, it accurately resembles the real model. The escalators bother me a bit, but still are good, given the scale involved. The chandelier is perfect! The best part, in my opinion, is the revolving door. It is spot-on in resemblance to the real one. The tiling is also great! The exterior is very well designed. The windows look quite good. The only thing that I would have changed is the use of the round 1x1s as substitutes for the grille bricks. Great Work! Sirius

MOC Revolutions
Sirius Black replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm in agreement with Freakwave, that is an awesome rendition. These are absolutely amazing, thanks so much for showing us all of these. The sheer number is astounding. Great Work! -
That's how many make their money. I have done it in the past. Many people are willing to pay more for figs if they can get them individually, as they just want part of the set. Look at Clone Wars and Harry Potter Minifigures, they all go above their individual value from buying new, just because people don't want the rest of the set. I find it convenient at times, instead of irritating, though i feel your pain about Buckbeak, as I have been looking for him as well.
-
Agreed, people will buy just about anything on eBay. I saw a corporate alliance tank droid set go for $125 used without figs on eBay when it was available new for $25 USD . Another reason is because the set just got released, and people haven't realized that yet, so they pay more. I know Diagon Alley was selling for over $200 consistently in late December/early January.

PAB selection plea for the classic smiley (Head #001)
Sirius Black replied to madoka's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Just how many figures do you own Madoka? That is an insane number of heads you are wanting... I'll support this as well (Btw, just how much does posting on this help? Are you planning on submitting a petition to TLG, or just hoping they will see this). Give us back our heads TLG. This brick is a classic symbol of Lego, and should be returned to PaB. Sirius Out of curiosity, this doesn't count as bumping a thread, does it? . -
Wow, hard question. There are so many good sets out there, its hard to choose. It's a tossup for me, but my favorites have to be Emerald Night (a common choice, it seems), the Grand Emporium, the new Imperial Shuttle, and Diagon Alley, which I still do not own .

Do you buy 1 set to play with and 1 to keep sealed?
Sirius Black replied to thegurumb's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I typically try to buy two, unless they are on sale, then I buy three or four, with the extra sets to be parted out. I only buy duplicates for exclusives or licensed sets though, as they have a better resale value. I frequently lose the willpower to keep the sets sealed though . -
I'd monitor eBay for it. I was able to get mine 100% complete for about $60 if I remember. I was able to save about $90 USD by waiting for a deal on eBay.
-
Well, I can't say that this is an exciting choice by TLG for the exclusive figure. I too would have preferred a Triwizard Harry, as the dress robes seem rather ordinary. I'll probably pass on this, or see if I can buy cheap on eBay. I would have preferred a less ubiquitous figure as well.
-
Sounds good for those who missed out. I already picked up several. Any word on whether the smaller sets will be re-released as well? I would have preferred to get new sets instead if the re-releases though , but with the new sets, I'm not complaining. I have heard rumors that there will be more sets in 2012, has this been validated or denied by TLG? Sirius

MOC: 1/2 scale Green Grocer and Fire Brigade
Sirius Black replied to puddleglum's topic in LEGO Town
I have to admit, i had the exact same thought as Metro. I saw the Green Grocer and at first glance it looked like the real one. Great Work! It looks just like the real thing! The headlight bricks really are used well here, and the stripes on the GG look perfect! Looking forward to the Grand Emporium in this scale! Sirius -
Future replacements for each of the themes? A future collectible minfigs series? . (I certainly hope not) Flesh versions of all the action themes? I don't know about you, but I am Siriusly confused as to what this is. Is it from TLG itself?

WINTER BREAK ENTRY: Ministry of Magic: Magic is Might
Sirius Black replied to Sirius Black's topic in LEGO Licensed
That was one of the things that I was trying to avoid with this model, but with the piece count, and the scale I was trying to use, it does have giant gaps with absolutely nothing going on . And i wouldn't really say that the statue is too large, but that the rest of the ministry is too small . The statue was the first thing that I did, and i tried to build everything else to fit with it. I did want to do it with two stories of office buildings, but i ran out of space with the parts count.
