  1. If you're referring to one of the axles, the book shows pictures of them at actual size so all you have to do is to hold the axle up against the page to make sure it matches the length. This should help your son avoid the issue in the future :-) And I know the axle lengths at a glance but I still hold them up to it to make sure I grabbed the right one.
  2. I'm dying to turn this into a modular configuration. I'm not a big fan of the hinged sides.
  3. I'm not either and I'm buying my wife about $400 in 2 sets for christmas. It's not difficult if you budget for it and have sufficient disposable income. I'll be buying the HQ and Brick Bank at my local lego store on Jan 1st for my own collection.
  4. I really hope the reported # of pieces is true. I understand the price point is high for a lot of people but these types of sets are aimed at those of us with disposable income or those who want to save up for one big set for their kids for christmas or birthday. Similar to the UCS sets in that sense.
  5. a 42030 on amazon UK for 110 pounds + 5 pound shipping. Equates to $179. Retail in the US is $250.
  6. The best part, the 42042 has the same B-model.
  7. Indeed.. I credit them with turning me into an engineer. I now build comercial aircraft on the side.
  8. I like it. I also support any ships that use an eth or thorn in their names.
  9. Out of curiosity, what size scale are you using for this? i.e. how long do you expect the final ship to be?
  10. This is awesome. That was one of my favorite scenes from Jedi.
  11. Ok so I have an on topic question. Is there a thread (if this isn't it) that covers confirmed sets that will be released this year? Do we know of any?
  12. My to buy list for this year is: 75019 AT-TE 75021 Republic Gunship 75002 AT-RT 75015 Corporate Alliance Tank Droid (2 of them.. for the tank treads for future creative genius) 9498 Saesee Tiin's Jedi Starfighter 42006 Excavator 42009 Mobile Crane Mk II 21104 Curiosity Rover 10240 Red Five X-wing Starfighter 10221 Super Star Destroyer A large part of this will be bought around the end of february except for Star Wars stuff I think I can hold off until May 4th. I'm also planning to bricklink build both the 10179 Falcon and 10019 Blockade Runner sets later in the year.
  13. The two I would be most likely to pay money for would be a UCS Nebulon-B Frigate or a UCS Tie Defender.
  14. Ok I must say, I am truly impressed. That SSD model must've taken you quite a lot of time.
  15. I'm an aerospace engineer living in the Seattle, USA area. I was a huge lego fan growing up but began a dark age after finishing school and beginning a career. I recently rediscovered my passion for legos and I've been buying mostly star wars and technic sets. The first time around, I had to build x-wings and starships with my imagination using random parts from space and castle sets.. It's an interesting change to see how things have changed since the 80s. Oh and I can't seem to figure out how to get any access or permissions to things like PMs. Is there something special I need to do?
  16. Ok I might be missing something obvious but I can't figure out how to send a PM and I may not have access to Thanks
  17. Hi! I just discovered the UCS Venator project and I was wondering if the instructions were still for sale. I would like to purchase a copy. Thanks!
