  1. It took about 60-80 hours to build which is not too bad given both the piece count and needing to straighten each column of 1x1 plates
  2. 144 x 128 studs ~40,000 pieces The mosaic is made using stacked transparent plates over a black background. My previous outing in this technique used only trans clear. This mosaic sees the addition of trans red plates to create the background effect and portions of the outer ring of the reactor. Trans clear areas range from 1 to 5 plates thick while trans red areas range from 1 to 3 plates thick. There are some opaque red plates used for the eyes and the center of the reactor. Trans Red was too difficult to see in these areas. This will be coming to NILTC's show at Helen Plum Library in Lombard, IL this weekend (April 27th and 28th) Main view Angled - The contouring is very noticeable around the shoulder harness in this shot. Full album is available here.
  3. Definitely the winner for most Bowie references in response to this MOC
  4. Be careful, facial details don't pick up that well using this technique. You want close ups.
  5. 120 x 96 Studs The mosaic is built using stacked trans clear plates on top of a black plate base. The image itself peaks at 5 plates high. These areas can be seen in the collar, lapel and some areas of the face. This shows a the contouring a little better. Full set is available here.
  6. I can only assume this means that I'm the only person who's posted a pic of your layout ;)
  7. Thanks, the monster isn't actually mine. Just borrowing it for the display.
  8. This was built for the Community Window at the Schaumburg, IL LEGO Store and is currently on display there. Overall View with Cavern area closed. Cavern doors open. Full Photoset on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/getdamonkey/sets/72157631899867281/ Enjoy.
  9. You may have answered your own question. While I'm sure you cleaned these, bacteria doesn't need a whole lot of food to start stinking. Outside of that you may have and issue with the plastic bags degassing if they were subjected to relatively high temperatures (think hot attic).
  10. My vote Several things are just simply horrible about this set. -The cockpit looks like it was an afterthought (Gee, wasn't there something on the side?). -It has by far the worst nose of any of the minifig scale falcons. -Quarter Dome Panels -$0.15 per piece in the US.
  11. Let meh in!!! Ah need to review some sets.
  12. There is no try only do
  13. Clearly there was not enough alcohol consumed...
  14. Yeah, I tend to think a zero got thrown on this number somewhere along the line (inadvertently of course). I know one of the LUGs in Japan was in low triple digits. This would make those remaining "average" LUGs even larger.
  15. What does the fin in the middle of the hood do?
  16. So you're the guy I blame when my fancy pants break! it's about  then  which is an okay ratio
  17. I build statistical models of beer consumption.
  18. I ran the game along with Steve. I'm not sure why I didn't think to announce the game here but I probably should have. We had four people playing in total and the game took about two hours. The game is easy to pick up but I think you need to play through at least once to really grasp the rules which is not necessarily a great thing for Brickworld. So far, I'm planning on MF0 again next year. It should be a better game as people get more familiar with the rules.
  19. I visited the Toys 'r' Us Express at Lighthouse Place last week and came up 4737 Quidditch Match priced at $41.99. This is 110% above RRP in the US. Has anyone seen worse?
  20. I'm sure I will eventually. It probably needs to be refined a bit before it's ready for prime time. This is primarily so that the paths balance out in terms of length and difficulty but there's still some work to do on the cave portion (it's not pictured and that's why). It will be part of my Brickworld layout. As a result, it should see some play there.
  21. Thanks for the kind words but a quick perusal of the Heroica Tag on flickr is pretty solid proof that I still have a ways to go.
  22. Thanks. The display was built for the community window at the LEGO store in Woodfield Mall. Since it was being put out there for public consumption, I was more concerned with having a good variety of baddies than any sort of play balance. As for an interior, the right side of the mountain does lift off to show an interior cave. You can see the door towards the bottom.
  23. I wouldn't be shocked if we see skeletons in the next run of Heroica sets this year. They're running out of monster fodder.
  24. This was a build for the community window at the Woodfield Mall LEGO Store. It was completed about 30 minutes before I had to leave for the store so I needed to rely on the community window to be my lightbox. Here's to better picture in March when I get it back. Enjoy. Mons Dolor on Flickr
  25. Reddit is a great place to get MOCs noticed beyond the AFOL community at large. My best explanation of what is like is public days at Brickworldor BrickCon. For the most part, it's not a crowd that sees a lot beyond what LEGO produces as sets but there is a lot of enthusiasm for LEGO and original LEGO creations. It's really difficult to do a side-by-side comparison of Reddit to EB or Flickr since it's a very different site.
