It depends on which you're comfortable with. If you're more comfortable designing in LDD, start from there. Be careful, though, because LDD offers a variety of ways such as weak connections, 'scafolding', and 'floating' pieces by which you can unknowingly create a model that defies physics. (when I build in LDD, as I delete pieces and redo certain sections, I sometimes find that I've created something that actually isn't connected together and is too weak to exist in real life) Me, I think that nothing can replace tinkering with physical bricks in your hands. (and spread out around you on the floor ) However, that could be because I'd been building for years before LDD was first released. Additionally, bricks in LDD are unlimited, so if you don't have a lot of pieces that you are willing to build with, you could work in LDD until you feel that you've created something you like enough to recreate with physical bricks.

There is no set date. TLG does not leak pictures, and they do not tell people that they can be leaked at a certain time. If we get pics from the retail catalog, then it's because someone who got a catalog from TLG leaked it, and they're told not to. We're not supposed to see prelim pictures; getting a picture from a retail catalog is not a right.

For aesthetic purposes, you are allowed to change the appearance of your weapon as long as it remains in the same weapon type. (for example, I reforged my Scarab Shield into a traditionally-shaped shield, but I can't change my Frozen Saber, a broadsword, into a longsword - changing the weapon type changes the variety of classes that can use the weapon) In your case, you cannot change a wand into a staff, because a staff is also useable by a Cleric, and a wand is not. You can change the appearance of your wand, but it must remain a wand.

I wouldn't be disappointed. These retailers' catalogs have always supposed to have been for the retailers' eyes only, even in past years when they were leaked. It's not TLG leaking the pics. The retailers leak the pics or allow someone else to take pictures of the catalog, and they're not supposed to. If we get leaked pics from the catalog, awesome, but if we don't, that's to be expected.

That works for me. Makes sense logically, too; if a hero is too busy to target an enemy to take Free Hits, he's also obviously too busy to be able to turn his shield towards every one of their attacks.
