LDraw info topic
legolijntje replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
====LDraw Editors==== MLCad MLCad was one of the first graphical LDraw editors. Nowadays, it's a bit outdated, but ti's still one of the most used LDraw editors available, because it has LSynth support, it can handle MPDs and just because many people are used to it. You can read more about MLCad here. Sr3D Builder Sr3D Builder is also a much used program these days. It has the benefits of LDraw and LDD together. Some nice funtions are: -Auto Allign -Animation Console You can read more about Sr3D Builder here. LeoCad Can you write a good pice of information about LeoCad? PM me You can read more about LeoCad here. [WIP] -
====ABOUT THIS THREAD==== The idea came up to make an LDraw version of the ldd info topic, so I was asked to make one. This is an general LDraw info topic with links to useful topics and websites. Hopefully, more will be added in the future. If you think there’s something wrong or there’s something missing, just PM me. It’s a bit empty in here now, so do you have good ideas to fill it up a bit? I maybe going to add some basic information about the editors. ====MAIN INFO==== What is LDraw LDraw is a collection of many digital Lego parts. It is used in many different programs such as MLcad and SR3D Builder. Should I use LDraw or LDD? Well, it depends on what your goal is and what your skills are (and also which LDraw builder you use). If you for example want to make good instructions, LDraw is way better, because you can make your own steps and you can use Lpub for the instructions and because you have almost all parts to build with. If you are not very good with a computer, or just want to build around a bit if you’re bored, LDD may be better for you, because it works very easy. If you really don’t know, you can always ask someone here in the forum. ====LINKS==== Useful LDraw topics on EuroBricks: Official Lego models made in LDraw Pov-Ray rendering tutorial LDraw editors: MLcad SR3d Builder LeoCad Bricksmith BrickDraw3D LDCad Konstruktor Other useful LDraw software: LDview Lpub LD4Dstudio Sticker Generator Peeron to MLCad If you want to see more software, take a look here. Can you please remove the minifig from your file? The minifig isn't in the model.

Nice review. but even better photos That are really good photos But not only the photos are good, also the text is very well done. No unnecessary text. I have only one little thing; on the first photo of "the complete set", it looks like it's not very straight BTW; I added this to Brickset

Well, I have attempted it a while back, but then I realised it had hoses, so I stopped with it (back then I didn't wanted to use LSsynth). So, for those who don't want which model to make; the only already/almost released architecture models we still don't have are: -21012 Sydney Opera House -21010 Robie House (but please don't start make this one, I have an almost complete one, I'll finifh it soon) -21013 Big Ben (but this one is not released yet)

That's one of the reasons why I want to use LSynth in my UCS models; you can view them in LDview and render them in POV-ray, that's what sr3d builder hoses can't (and LSynth looks better). I think I understand LSynth now, but now MLcad is the problem; I haven't worked with it for such a long time now, it's like it's all new to me So, while trying to understand MLcad again, I'm working on (yes, still and UCS ) sculpture of Darth Maul... and a weird Spongebob set (really) EDIT: I just see the text "temporary render", that really doesn't look tempory, what do you want to improve?

Well, I really don't know how to use LSynth; even with the tutorial I can't use it (but it works; it's just me) and that's slowing everything a bit down Also good luck to you with Space Police. If you can complete it, it would be the first complete theme in LDraw

This site is online for around 2 years now, so this isn't a new site. There was already a topic about it in the EB Technic forum (if I remember correctly) and there was a post about it on TechnicBricks (because first, it was only about Technic models). As far as I know this is a real TLG website.

You can also use sr3d builder, which is the easiest building software, and just use LDview to export (as far as I know it has the same export funtions as Leocad), but if you want to make your own LDraw pieces, none of the above will work, because they use the parts to build, and they're not made to make your own parts. If you want to make your own part, you maybe want to contact "philo" (he is also on this forum). He has made many good LDraw pieces, so he knows how to make a good LDraw piece. I hope this helps a bit

Finally the index is updated. There now over 250 models. So, it's more than doubled since the previous index update. Keep them coming guys, it's amazing work (also the renders of C3POwen are amazing)

I hope you like it (also thanks to superkalle for the idea) Oh, and Whitew0lf, if you read this, can you please edit your model posts here in the topic. All your links don't work, so I can't index them. I think you replaced the files in your BrickShelf account?
