This is great, lots of intricate details! As for ease of sharing files, zinfinion and I are both proponents of Dropbox as a way of housing a repository of LDD files you want to share. Also, since I see you use Flickr for hosting/sharing your pics, if you do end up using Dropbox for the LDD files and link to them over there, please consider adding one to The LEGO Exchange!

Woah! Fantastic job, spot-on. I tend not to venture out of the LDD forum here, but do occasionally. Glad I did today! Any chance of sharing the LXF file? I'd love to get inside...

Yeah, that's awesome. Just under 2000 supporters now - I think, ultimately, while "The Winchester" had a meteoric rise, this one is "slow and steady". It's always got new supporters every time I look. It might not garner ~7000 supporters in a week, but I think this idea has legs. Also, you should be able to use the embed code from youtube on the Cuusoo idea page description tab (unless they've somehow disabled publishing that type of content.) I'd recommend doing so, it will add to the presentation. -
An internet tale Winchester/Shaun of the Dead project on CUUSOO
vynsane replied to Yatkuu's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Wow, what a whirlwind week for this project, huh? Fantastic! As for next steps, I don't know if everyone saw the official 10k congratulatory note: I love the fact that it's not just a standard form letter congrats - the little nuances like using the phrase "How's that for a slice of fried gold?" just makes it all the more personal! -
Very cool - I really like the variation that those 1x1 round tiles amidst uncovered studs creates on each wing!

This is just... woah! Fantastic. Totally thought of everything. I don't know what I like the most, the Chamber of Secrets, the Quidditch Pitch, the Forbidden Forest... I can't decide!

An internet tale Winchester/Shaun of the Dead project on CUUSOO
vynsane replied to Yatkuu's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Holy crap, that's awesome! Good show, Yatkuu, we'll show those Minecraft Minions how fanatic SotD lovers can be! As for the support per view issue, I think people take the "Support" button a lot more seriously - and rightly so - than the "Like" or "+1" button... It means more than just "this is cool" but "I would really buy this". At least, that's how I feel about it. I've seen a lot of cool items on CUUSOO but haven't supported them because I know, when push comes to shove, I wouldn't buy it if it came out. the BttF sets - yes! The Modular Western Town? It's cool, but I already don't buy the CITY Modulars because they're just out of my price range - I'm not going to support the Western version of it because at the end of the day, I'm not going to buy it. I already know that. I feel like the Minecraft supporters didn't get the full implication of the 'Support' button, but time will tell if it's successful or if that was all a lot of hot air. The Winchester? You better BELIEVE I'll buy that! -
I dig it lots, I've added my support. I think this theme necessitates a badass dropship with a cool chick pilot. "In the pipe, 5-by-5. Get ready, we're in for some chops..."

LDD File with all official parts?
vynsane replied to swils's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
This doesn't pertain to when I'm creating a strictly-digital (read: never intended to be built in real bricks) MOC, but usually I'll design a build in a single color and then pick out a select few pieces that I've ended up using that I know will be available only in limited colors, look those up on BL, and color them to my liking within the availability restrictions, then color the rest accordingly. It's sort of like building in raw materials, then painting it after all is said and done. -
I've been getting this error when starting up LDD since yesterday afternoon or thereabouts. Yesterday it was while on lunch at my office, right now it's while home, so it's not an error only on one internet connection. Anyone else? It's disconcerting, hopefully it's just a glitch and not a sign that LDD is being downgraded in importance.

Uploading and Linking to LXF Files
vynsane replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Just as an update - I couldn't find 'Get Link' anywhere, I could only find 'Copy Public Link' on files within my 'Public' folder. I finally found a KnowledgeBase article and, after glossing over the finer details multiple times, noticed the text "All you have to do is enable shareable links by clicking this link." ("clicking this link" being the link itself - this is why links shouldn't be named "click here" but actually be the verb in question - linking "enable shareable links" would have drawn my eye right to it). Anyway, only after clicking on that link will you be able to use "Get Link". I think they should make that a little more readily apparent... -
Uploading and Linking to LXF Files
vynsane replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Interesting points, all - thanks for continuing the discussion. Personally, I feel like adding LXF files to Brickshelf is basically using the service in ways other than intended - it's mainly for housing galleries of pictures, which an LXF file is not. If they support it or encourage it, then that point is moot. That said, I was already active on Flickr when I found out about Brickshelf, so I didn't feel the need to create a new account there. Flickr, of course, does not support LXF files, so I found Dropbox as a feature-rich filesharing system to handle that part of the process. I also have my own webserver and was originally uploading files there, but I would have to use FTP then manually copy and paste the url, which was a bit annoying. As for the impermanence issue - nothing is permanent. Both Brickshelf and Dropbox could be closed down tomorrow and we'd have to find some other avenue, so it's really a personal preference thing at that point. I find Dropbox to be really easy to use, especially through the local folder synching for adding files and their web interface for copying/pasting links. Really rich user experience. -
AH, I hand't thought of that... I'll update the screenshot that way when possible.

6954 - Renegade, Theme: Space, Subtheme: Blacktron Click on the screenshot or link that follows to download the file. 6954 Blackron "Renegade" LXF File Features - Each module and figure as well as the rover are groups Omissions - All prints are unavailable - not substituted Substitutions - 4730 Modified Brick 2x2 with Pin and No Axle Hole unavailable, substituted 6232 Modified Brick 2x2 with Pin and Axle Hole. Errors - The program doesn't like the position of the yellow tubes - it caused a 'misplaced bricks' error and removed the 1x1 'Headlight' brick on one side and removed the tube on the other side. I moved the horizontally-connected end of each tube to the next adjacent stud towards the outside of the model, and it does not remove any bricks now.

Uploading and Linking to LXF Files
vynsane replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I don't think there would really be an issue there - you can use the 'Public' folder for sharing LXF files with the masses, private/invite folders for sharing other (non-LEGO-related) files with specific people. I created an 'LDD' folder in my 'Public' folder just for that purpose. There is also a lot of protection even on your 'Public' folder - people can't just browse your directories there, they can only access a file via a full link directly to that file. Therefore, you can't access http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62625880/LDD/ (you'll get a 404 error) but you can download http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62625880/LDD/Space/MSF2/designations/MSF_Raijin_Class_light_interceptor.lxf (works like a charm!) -
Uploading and Linking to LXF Files
vynsane replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
As an alternate solution to using Brickshelf, I find Dropbox to be a really easy way to upload files in a web-accessible way. You simply drag-and-drop files into a specific folder on your computer and it's automatically synched with your Dropbox account. You can then copy the publicly-accessible link for that file and paste it anywhere on the web you want to share it, including EB posts. -

The designs look really great! But might I suggest using embedding the images directly in your post instead of linking to them? You can do so by using the 'Insert Image' tool instead of the 'Insert Link' tool. Also, if you rotate the 'camera' to different angles, it might make the effect a bit more dramatic. If you took the frontal three-quarter view and just rotated up a little bit we'd get to see a lot of the details on top in addition to what we already see. -
Modular Starfighter [LDD MOC]
vynsane replied to vynsane's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks, DLuders - no, unfortunately at this point none of the modular starfighters or larger spacecraft I've designed in LDD have been built in real bricks, they're strictly virtual models. That is not to say that I don't plan to build as many of them as I can, but that depends on the time, funds, and space to do so. -
Modular Starfighter [LDD MOC]
vynsane replied to vynsane's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
"Raijin" Class modular light interceptor by vynsane, on Flickr While the "Kitsune" Class light interceptor filled a vital role in many fleets and performed admirably, it became apparent that it had reached the end of it's production lifecycle after the "Oni" and "Ryu" classes gained prominence. Building on the performance abilities of the "Firedemon" engine modules both of those models share while looking for ways to reduce maintenance costs, Tanuki Corp. decided that a single-engine fighter would fill the gap left by the retirement of the "Kitsune". This also afforded them the ability to reduce the weight and size of the craft, greatly improving power/weight ratio. Benchmark testing places the "Raijin" on par with the twin-engined "Oni" for speed and beats all other records for maneuverability. The over-all ship profile is reduced by 35% when compared to the "Kitsune", which greatly helps in evading enemy fire.
