  1. No, that’s not a typo in the topic title.. The Death Star has a lot of Docking Bays. In short: while this is based on Docking Bay 327, it is smaller and due to space limitations (and limited techniques) has a few different designs. Therefore I decided not to call it a DB327-moc and give it a twist of my own... I originally intended to post this about a month ago, when I finished the project in LDD. Every time I was about to start writing this post, I hesitated and backed off. I guess part of me was afraid of your comments, because imo, compared to the other amazing MOC’s on this forum and on other places of the internet, mine is a bit ’simple’. But I eventually decided that posting this is the only way to learn new tricks and improve my techniques. I guess I should also add a bit of background information about my Lego life, in case people missed my post in the SW Purchases thread: I haven’t touched a Lego brick for over 16 years, until about 2 months ago. During the summer (when I got bored with the usual videogames) I was already considering doing something with Lego again. I still had a (16y old) Technic set that I never finished and that would have been the perfect starting point. Like this topic I’ve been postponing it for a few months but occasionally browsing through the available Lego sets. Pretty quickly I decided that I’d go for the Star Wars sets as I’ve always been a fan of the movies. (Still need to watch those Clone Wars seasons..) I showed a few to my mom who immediately decided she would get me the UCS R2-D2 for Christmas and the dawn of my new Lego era had arrived (around half October). After purchasing a few sets I simply fell in love with the 7965 Millennium Falcon. It was such an amazing build (for me at least, with my inexperience) with me constantly wondering where certain pieces were going to be used.. This lasted throughout the entire build until it all fit together in the end. While the set isn’t perfect (reading reviews here showed me that), I can only dream of a UCS Millennium Falcon so this is as good as it gets for me. This MF was so cool I decided to build it a proper home. While browsing the forums, MOCpages and other websites I stumbled upon the Docking Bay 327 MOC’s and decided that would be the way to go for my MF. Incase you’ve never seen them, these are the 2 I used for inspiration: http://rebrickable.c...-for-ucs-falcon http://mocpages.com/moc.php/293188 While these are awesome, I had (very) limited display space and, while I knew I would not be able to ’compete’ with the other designs, I also definately did not want to copy them. This project consisted of a lot of ’first times’ for me: First time working in LDD. First time creating something based on something ’real’ First time using Bricklink (And a few others I’m probably forgetting right now..) If you managed to read through all this text, I will now reward you with the necessary pictures (click to enlarge). Overview while still on the dining room table Luke trying to disconnect the fuel lines (Those lights look a lot better in person than in the picture..) Luke is still messing with those fuel lines... …when he’s spotted by an Imperial Officer.. (I designed this without actually using a minifigure to decide on the scale, I’m glad I can fit a minifig in there but I’ll need to increase the height on it whenever I do another Bricklink order.) Chewie has Darth Vader in his sights while Leia is aiming at someone else.. Overview in the 'display area' (which also shows who Leia was aiming at) I also made a short video showing off the Leds, I'll update this post with the Youtube link once I've uploaded it. 1 of the red wall leds arrived dead, so I need to put in a new order to replace it. I originally intended red & blue background lights for the Darth Vader/Obi Wan scene but I seem to have misplaced my 2 blue leds, so I decided on 1 red and 1 white with a transparant red plate. The effect is not really what I had in mind though so when I order new leds I'll probably replace the leds with lit up Lightsabers. *EDIT* The video's up now, sorry for the shaky camera:
  2. Not really my purchases but I got these 2 for christmas from my parents: * (75025) Jedi Defender-class Cruiser * (10225) R2-D2 UCS
  3. Oh right, didn't think about that (and I even have 5 of those boxes here ready and waiting). There's 1 guy there that's really into Star Wars but I don't know his name, he's the one that told me about Dec 27th for the new sets.
  4. One of the employees in the official Lego store in Belgium told me they'll be offering the new SW sets from December 27th..
  5. Received the following 2 this week from my mom: * 75000: Clone Troopers vs Droidekas * 9489: Endor Rebel Trooper & Imperial Trooper Battle Pack Picked up a couple of 2nd hand sets yesterday: * 7181: TIE Interceptor UCS * 8002: Technic Destroyer Droid * 9748: Droid Developer Kit Built the Droid Developer Kit yesterday and the Micro Scout appears to be broken, sadly. I might try opening it up to clean the 'insides'. Atleast the seller is willing to help me trying to fix it. I also built the Destroyer Droid today and I can't seem to fold the model the way Lego tells me I should. Will have to try to find more information on that as the manual isn't that clear, imo. :) I was mostly looking forward to the UCS set though, so I saved that one for last and tomorrow it'll finally be built. :) And from the local Lego store (also yesterday): * 75008: TIE Bomber & Asteroid Field (Series 3 Planet set) .. And now I feel like I should collect as much of the planets as I can. This was my favorite model though, that TIE Bomber looks awesome. :)
  6. Fun (another toy store in Belgium) has the new sets as well.. http://www.fun.be/nl/speelgoed/lego/lego-star-wars?limit=36 They're also doing a 3+1 free (cheapest for free, ofcourse) till the end of the month and I was very tempted to pick up the Jedi Interceptor, Imperial V-Wing, Grievous' Wheel Bike and Vulture Droid (24.95€/piece).. Eventually decided not to do it, although I might still give in and go back next week. :)
  7. Thanks for the tip, I managed to get them on fairly straight (as straight as I'm ever gonna get it at least) but 2 air bubbles are caught beneath the transparent part. When looking at it from a distance it kinda looks like it was damaged while flying (which is kinda cool) but it looks a bit nasty up close. I'm considering doing it again but for now I'll just keep it this way. (I got 3 canopy sticker sheets in my box, btw.) It's stored on a high shelf so I won't see the sticker unless I take it down, I'll mostely be looking at the underside. Ontopic: Visited the local LEGO store yesterday and picked up: * (10235) Winter Village Market (for my mom for Christmas) * (75023) 2013 Star Wars Advent Calendar * (9489) Endor Rebel Trooper & Imperial Trooper Battle Pack
  8. Like I said before, I don't blame you at all for the Office issue. I've never had problems with it before and I honestly have absolutely no need to run a 64 bit version of Office but as I'm also on a 64 bit version of Windows I figured it would be better to keep it all the same.. I hardly use Office though, prefer the iWork suite on my Mac for the limited stuff I do with it, so uninstalling was not a problem for me. (I must admit though, it was a disappointment to find out I had to uninstall it completely because they would not work side by side. It shouldn't be a problem to run the 32-bit Access runtime and still keep the 64 bit Word/Excel apps, imo.) Thanks for replying and good luck with the new version..
  9. Thanks for the tip but I sorted it out in the meantime.. I used the parts list generated by LDD and looked them up 1 by 1 on Bricklink. It turns out the unique brick count was off and the following 4 bricks got left out when exporting to BL: P/N 3069bpc1: Light Bluish Gray Tile 1 x 2 with Red 82, Yellow and White Gauges Pattern P/N 3069bpx19: Light Bluish Gray Tile 1 x 2 with Vehicle Control Panel Pattern (LDD) P/N 3068: should be a Tile 2 x 2 with Windows in Computer Screen Pattern (but I can't find that at all on BL so I don't blame LDD Manager for that one. ) P/N 4150ps4: Light Bluish Gray Tile, Round 2 x 2 with Grille Fine Mesh Pattern I had one other minor issue with LDD Manager but that's not Superkalle's fault. It's a Microsoft issue. I had Office 2010 64-bit installed and LDD Manager was designed in a 32 bit version of Office so it refused to run. And I couldn't install the 32 bit Access runtime as long as I had 64 bit Office apps installed. I eventually decided to remove Office altogether and just install the runtime to get it to work. Again, not Superkalle's fault but I figured I'd share it in case anyone else is having this problem..
  10. First of all, thanks for this amazing program.. It works great. :) I'm having a bit of trouble importing the list to BL though. I created a model in LDD consisting of 2466 parts. Your LDD Manager also says it consists of 2466 parts. However, when I export it to XML to import in BrickLink, I end up with a list consisting of 2457 parts. The 113 unique bricks did go through correctly, so there must be an amount 'off' somewhere. I'll go recheck them 1 by 1 in the meantime. Hopefully you can help me trying to figure out the problem. :) And while you're probably already aware of this: when importing a model LDD manager reports that the BrickSetVersion is the wrong number. I'm using the latest version of LDD, downloaded about a week ago. BrickSetVersion is 1182, LDD Manager expects 1128.
  11. (After reading through all the pages of this topic, I decided to register and join this great forum.. ) A couple of months ago I was a bit bored at home and renembered having a 16 year old Technics set (8428 Concept Car) that I never finished building.. I started looking at the current LEGO catalogue and stumbled upon the UCS R2-D2 and after showing that to my mom she said "Oh, I'll get you that then for Christmas". That really pushed me back into LEGO as I figured I couldn't let R2 sit there on its own. I was gonna start out slowly but in the last month or so I bought these (in this order): * (75004) Z-95 Headhunter (LEGO Store) * (7965) Millennium Falcon (Amazon.co.uk, ended up saving 55€ compared to the LEGO Store price in Belgium) * (9493) X-Wing Starfighter (Amazon.co.uk, saved about 20€ on this one) * (75003) A-Wing Starfighter (LEGO Store) * (9492) TIE Fighter (Dreamland in Belgium, got a 10% discount) And my mom's also getting me the 75000 Clone Troopers vs Droidekas pack after I mentioned that I like the Droidekas.. Can't wait for Christmas. By now I decided to not spend any more money on sets this year, and then I receive an email for the VIP Black Friday early offers. Thanks to that I jumped on the 10240 UCS X-Wing as well, didn't want to risk it getting sold out. Can't wait for that to arrive although after reading the review here I'm very afraid of the stickers on this one. The 9493 is currently (and will always be) my Red-6 X-Wing. The Falcon might not be perfect (especially for the lucky people with the UCS version) but I love it, it's my favorite set so far. I even love it so much I'm currently attempting to design Docking Bay 327 in LDD as I feel it deserves a proper display area. But I'll save that for another topic, if anyone's interested.
