  1. the success of the theme depends upon the success of the upcoming fourth movie. if the fourth movie is cool kids will rewatch the first three and want sets that cover all the four movies so four waves could be possible. if the movie sucks then no-one will want POTC sets. this has potential to be as cool as the Indy theme with room for lots of sets but also has the potential to bomb disastrously after the first few sets.
  2. Fisherman because he's versatile. Series 2 Just had the best mix. Yes. Nice and simple reply.
  3. Helena means 'light' or 'torch' and was the ancient Greek name for the phenomenon known as 'St. Elmo's fire'. Or in other words, lightning. The girl's name Tova is of old Norse and Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Tova is 'beautiful' or 'good'. As a Swedish name, this is a feminine form of Thor, the thunder god. There's your weather connection. Obtuse as it is. Possibly a hidden reference to Johnny Thunder.
  4. Interesting. I just don't really think of 80nm out as being somewhere that would concern police. that sort of distance I just assume is the coastguard or Navy's jurisdiction. I'm prepared to accept it though. I do have an islanders outlook. I forget there are places where grand distances are commonplace. those police boat photos are cool though. The NYC police boat has a lovely shape to the hull. Wish Lego had made the hull like that. It's much less blocky and angular in the bow. I wonder if changing the white on the deck of the Lego ship to grey would artificially shorten it by illusion.
  5. Arite dere kidda? Proper woollyback ere. Good to see yas. Sit off an geg in like. Sound.
  6. I don't really see that as a police boat. can't recall ever seeing a police boat so large. I reckon it'd look better as an ocean going fishing trawler. The blue seems better fitted to that. fishing net boom on the back, more compact cabin situated further forward. short mast, load of fish and some CM S3 fishermen. That would work. Look fantastic moored on the other side of the pier to the 7994 big blue cargo ship. throw in the hovercraft pilot from 7045 as skipper and bob's your lobster. The smaller classic town police launch sized boat would have worked better here. river launch sort of thing. Don't the coastguard normally take care of deeper waters and have bigger boats?
  7. it should be randomised. no two cases should be alike. that way it's much fairer on everybody. that and the blind packaging should deter hoarders. everyone getting the same chances of finding figures and increasing the swappable nature of the spares you don't want which is how it seems to me that Lego wanted this to go. Hence the reason for removing the barcodes. It isn't supposed to be easy. it's supposed to be fun and fair and encourage interaction between Lego fans. Not divide them orleave them aggravated because someone snaffled all the best figures from a case.
  8. just ordered a couple of fishermen and a rapper. Gonna build myself a fishing trawler with the world city hovercraft pilot as captain and a crew of this fisherman. he was really the only one out of the set that appealed to me. I only ordered the rapper for the boombox if truth be told but I hate his gold teeth grin o I'll have to find a suitable replacement head. I might get parts from other figures at some point. sports accessories, microfig trophy. maybe I'll be tempted to get the sumo dude for his fat belly torso. I'm curious about the back of his hairpiece. wondering if it'll work as a female hair-do.
  9. Kudos for the lovely buildings but the British building isn't really typical. Not unless you live in some quaint historic town full of wealthy people. The majority of British houses are the plain brick and red roof type. boring terraced boxes. pretty much like a typical lego basic house set.
  10. I use 6754 Family Home for my farmhouse but something along those lines would be cool. maybe more ranch style. Livestock transport lorry. High sided with air gaps. long tail gate. multi-barred fence pieces for directing the livestock into their paddock. could be sold with either sheep or cattle. with sheep it could be double level inside. Shepherd. fences, sheep, ram, sheepdog (preferably a Border Collie or Olde English), Shepherds crook. Milking shed. Oooh something for the cows. I'm thinking that there's people who don't like the idea of cows as meat stock so a dairy farm is a nice alternative. Sheep shearing shed. Another bunch of sheep, shearing tool, nice small farm building. Thinking more about animals my mind turns to foxes, badgers, moles and crows. Shire horses, Donkeys, goats. Chicken, Rooster, Goose, Turkey, Duck, Pheasant. Moulded animals not brick built. A lot of which could be used in Castle sets too. Lego could easily make a profit from new animals. There's plenty of people willing to buy sets just to get the animals. I really can't see a reason why they couldn't be introduced in the castle sets and then brought out in a new wave of farm sets in a couple of years. if they follow a three year release pattern on themes why not just do a couple more waves of farm in 2012/2013? I'd be 100% behind it. Bought every farm set so far and love them way more than many of the city sets I spend most of my cash on.
  11. ignore this.
  12. Got to have that motorbike from the small set. I know it's just the IJ chuachilla cemetry harley recoloured but it's just so cool.
  13. I wholeheartedly agree with the idea of running changes to some sets. cars and trucks with a colour swap re-release seems such a simple and logical step. The only problem is if the colour switch becomes a store exclusive or has a smaller production run. Anything with a vague sniff of limited edition seems to cause mass hysteria and overpricing. considering how long Lego have had some sets in production like the police prisoner transport, police car and motorbike vehicles they're obviously not averse to long or large production runs. so on a long run simply changing the colour of parts shouldn't be a problem. what better way to keep kids buying the product than to tempt them with different colours. and there's only so many red or yellow cars anyone can have in a city. varying colours would just refresh the line up of products. make it more interesting.
  14. Windmills have 'sails' not wings. Best part to use would be the tapered rigging from the pirates theme with cloth sails attached. Wonder if there'll be a flour sack accessory? Tan or dark tan. A sack would be useful in pirates, farm, castle, town greengrocer....
  15. Fisherman with new beard and blue woolly hat plus sand green fish. best figure by far. Hula dancer looks great. Nice grass skirt which I'm assuming is cloth. I like the new sports accessories and the ghetto blaster but apart from the two I've mentioned none of the figures excite me. the gorilla suit is really ugly. horrible.
  16. If Lego are doing some more serafaring/harbour sets next year a minifig scaled sub would be great. Along the lines of 4888 but perhaps a little shorter. I loved the research aspect of the old divers theme and hated aquaraiders. Any set that positions Lego in a learning through play stanse gets my vote. I'm sick of all the themes with fighting at their core. A good realistic research sub with some nice fish and sea creatures instead of roid rage squid people and deformed shark people would be lovely. less conflict and more conservation. oh and obviously I voted for the ocean odyssey set even if it is a redundant vote.

    Mega Bloks

I really liked the roof sections from the Megabloks POTC and Dragons themes. yeah they're <insert that tiresome argument>, large pieces but they provide a roof detail unavailable using Lego. thatch roof and oriental. I don't feel any guilt or disloyalty using the parts. I spend enough on real Lego to assuage that. but sometimes when constructing there's just no way to get Lego pieces to do what you want them to so a rival brand that does the parts is where I go. In the same way I buy from brickarms and brickforge.
  18. The blue shirted police dude looks more like a desk clerk than anything else. Probably why he's only in two sets, the station house and the mobile command. I don't see a problem with these police sets, they have a similar design and compatibility with the previous releases and just enhance the police force. I'll be combining both police stations to make the most of them. a tiny bit of modification and the police vehicles will all gel as a unit. World city Police station minifigs will give me detectives and a hard criminal in orange jumpsuit. it's all about creativity. Lego give us a set but it's down to us how we utilise it. fair enough if people want to build it and leave it as it is but I've always taken set designs as a starting point. making modifications, additions, combinations. I don't see the point of having stuff made from inter-connectable bricks with many permutations of connectivity and not taking advantage of that. I would say if you're happy with the previous releases then save money and just buy any new elements from bricklink. rather than protesting at something Lego do with a set release pattern that's tried and tested and successful. And I aim that at no-one in particular. Or mean offence to anyone. I just think sometimes people forget the point of Lego is to build and rebuild. Play.
  19. Herge's adventures of Tintin (movie coming soon, many books to draw inspiration from, good strong characters) Asterix the Gaul (several movies, many books to draw inspiration from, good strong characters) Invader Zim (old Nickelodeon show, possibly niche interest, lots of nifty tech gadgets and spacheships, good strong characters with plenty of scope for interesting minifigs)
  20. CS Lewis' Narnia books are thinly veiled christian doctrine. Aslan represents Jesus. Lego won't do anything overtly religious.
  21. I can't see the point. If a baseplate has no studs to build on then it's just a display base. and if that's an example of the stuff they do then you might as well just use M*******s stuff. at least that has studs on it.
  22. Lego are using artistic license with the pigs in the windmill set. There is a white pig in Denmark, the Landrace, but that's a relatively modern breed. And all white. In medieval Europe it would have been rare to see a white pig. They were still breeding from from wild boar so the pigs looked rough and dirty brown/black or striped with black. mos breeds of pig we know now didn't exist until the 1700's at the earliest. However, aesthetically, a different breed of pig is good for farm sets and diversity in Lego animals is always good. The dappled grey horse sounds fantastic. Can't wait to see pictures.
  23. I'd like to see a sort of merging of Power miners and space. Asteroid ore mining *snappy theme title pending*. Basically you've got some deep space guys trying to find copper coloured ore (which is valuable for earth for some reason or other) in an asteroid field. they have a satellite crew base near a hyperspace jump point. crews and ore cargo journey from deep space to earth through hyperspace unless there's ore pirates around who are also from earth but are a ruthless mercenary band who steal the ore for sale to the highest bidder. the pirates have spikey cloaked vehicles that elude sensor detection. with no alien foes this is man pitted in battle against man far out where a miner must keep his wits about him to survive and pirates lie in wait in the deep shadows of the asteroid field..... or something along those lines. Impulse: Explosives team: 2 space suited minifigs, hover sled, dynamite in silver, printed screen with countdown display, reel of string fuse wire, detonator remotes. Ore pirate: space suited Pirate minifig with space walk jetpack, gun, hovering ore transport crate. Small sets: Mining crew: space suited crew foreman and 2 miners with crew rover buggy, laser chisels, crowbars and metallic copper rock crytals. Drill skiff: slimline hover vehicle with small articulated drill arm, sensor probe arm, computer and 2 space suited minifigs. Deep core drill mole: tubular vehicle on tracks with drill head nose, cockpit and ore transport bay, shovels, metallic copper rock crystals, one minifig in overalls and one space suited. Ore Pirate attack craft: 6 wheeled buggy/tank vehicle, laser cannons, stolen ore storage, metallic copper rock crytals, taser guns and two space suited pirates. Medium sets: Mining crew shuttle: transport shuttle ship, detachable opening cargo pod, gun turret, vertical/horizontal tilting engines, cockpit, detachable crew pod, 1 pilot and 3 crew minifigs. rock asteroid. Asteroid mining base: Think along the lines of the arctic base sets with hut like structures and corridor tubes between huts. medical bay. explosives store. a huge vertical drill stack with control station. a small one man buggy and ore transport sleds. 1 medic and 3 crew minifigs. raised crater baseplate (revised for more rock texture and studded points on crater rim.) Ore pirate clipper: spaceship bristling with weapons and sensor arrays, detachable 2 man cockpit, detachable hold for ore storage and wheeled craft. Pirate captain, two pirates, 1 double agent pirate/miner, Captains pet tarantula, Guns and tasers. rock asteroids. Large sets: Orbital space station: circular rotating space dock for ships with crew quarters, control room, ore cargo pod storage, armoury, gym, escape pods. rock asteroids. Hyperspace jump ring: big round segmented hoop with techy greebling and trans purple perimeter lights. fibre optics and light brick, ore transport pod hyperspace shuttle with detachable pods and two man cockpit, metallic copper rock crystals, rock asteroids.
  24. HAHAHAHA! Love the knuckleduster. Actually I just love the fact there are people out there producing stuff like this and adding to the fun and joy of building and playing around with Lego. I'll definitely get some of these new items when there's a few colours available.
  25. the violin looks more like a cello to me. I can see it working that way with a grand piano as a duet. an alternate use for the drumsticks is as a cudgel/shelale/truncheon.
