Why the Pirates theme disappeared in 1998?
Cpt. Dan replied to Captain Fortune's topic in LEGO Pirates
I actually think the Spaniard line was the weakest part of the series. Islanders were interesting, but limited as well. The sets from the early 90's were by far the best with the line waning out in 96 97 98. It had to be tough to not recycle ideas somehow as well. What interests me, however, is that in 1999 Lego came out with its first license with Lucasfilms and Star Wars. I wonder now if Lego nixed pirates to make room for another brand and let that take the forefront? These may be the new opportunities they said they were looking to explore. If I had to guess though it is because I think the line began to lose popularity. -
This is definitely a cool set! Although less known, I do think it was one of the better large sets in classic pirates later years. To this day, the pirate with the brown shirt and blue jacket is one of my favorite figures. Thanks!

Truthfully, it will probably continue to get more expensive over time. As a former owner of the set, I think there are other ships for that price range you may like as well. If you are looking for the BBB, it may be a good price to snag it at considering it is a pirate ship and it is retired (to my knowledge). MSRP was $119.99 new US. Euro would have been more pricey anyway.

I can promise it's not! The cannon came from a bag I had mixed with Wild West and Pirates. The reason they do not appear like that in other sets is because in the pictures, they are placed face down hiding the design. I assure you it is 100% Lego. It most likely came from Fort Legoredo to be completely honest. I do not buy MB Here is a link to the part in case anyone was curious. Cannon Looks like a US release

Hey all! I was surfing the Master Pirates Index set reviews and did not see an entry for this set. After some searching, I still couldn't find it! I decided to make my first review of anything here on eurobricks let alone Classic Pirates. Captain Dan is making an appearance himself for an inspection of his men and their equipment! (Corny, I know but I am pretty proud of my new upcoming sigfig!) Enjoy! Set: 6245 Harbor Sentry Year: 1990 Pieces: 24 MSRP: $4.25 according to Peeron.com 6245 Harbor Sentry by DanSZ151, on Flickr Instructions DSCF1001 by DanSZ151, on Flickr Back Page 6245 Harbor Sentry by DanSZ151, on Flickr Captain Dan makes his first appearance making sure his crew is in tip top shape and prepared for battle at any time! DSCF1002 by DanSZ151, on Flickr Figure 6245 Harbor Sentry by DanSZ151, on Flickr Set comes with one cutlass and one pistol. Good for one figure, can't ask for much more. Oars in the classic brown we all miss so much 6245 Harbor Sentry by DanSZ151, on Flickr This is a sign of the good ol' days of lego. This set comes with 6, thats right 6 cannonballs. We'd be lucky to get 4 on one of today's big pirate ships. These were especially great in the days when the shooting cannons existed, as the cannonballs got lost all the time. 6245 Harbor Sentry by DanSZ151, on Flickr Boat. Great little vessel, perfect for bulk purchases. 6245 Harbor Sentry by DanSZ151, on Flickr Awesome flag comes with it, great styling, very time-relevant for the century Lego was looking to capture. 6245 Harbor Sentry by DanSZ151, on Flickr Looks like our trusty Sentry has knocked himself out with the cannon while trying to swivel with it. This is possibly the worst feature of the set. Because of the flag the cannon really cannot rotate more then 180 degrees, but as for playability I think kids figured it out. Score: Build: 5/10. Simple, most of the parts are accessories, nothing at all going on. Mostly anyone can figure it out without even opening the instructions Pieces: 7.5/10. Again, not much going on. Alot of accessories and cannonballs, but the red boat, flag, cannon, etc. for a cheap price is unbeatable. Figures: 7/10. A pirate would put this at a 10/10, but for the price I don't think anyone can complain. Price: 10/10. Most of us back in the day could get this with a week's allowance or selling lemonade one summer day. Awesome parts and figure at a great price. A set like this today would be about $7.99 despite the 24 piece count. Playability: 6/10. Can't do much more but float around and shoot cannonballs at the dog without a pirate. This is where I am overriding my scoring system. This set would really be a 35.5/50, but I am going to bypass that. This set is a 10/10, all the way. I love it. You get a boat, Imperial soldier, gun, cutlass, cannon, and tons of ammo. You can't beat it. Three or four of these would be awesome to compliment the ElDorado Fortress or take on Redbeard in battle. This set, in my opinion, was at the forefront of the Golden Age of Lego with the releases of classic pirates. Great price, tons of playability when combined with any of the impulse pirate sets. I recommend this set to anyone who can get their hands on at least one. Once you have one and your armada of soldiers begins to grow, you will understand why it is a good investment, especially considering on eBay this set doesn't sell for too much. Thanks, hope you enjoyed!

This is awesome! Love the classic feel of it with some new age innovation. Great work. Looks like the bluecoats may have a tiny bit of a challenge! Great work, keep it up. I am excited to see how it ends up with some custom sails. Any chance we can get some interior shots of the ship?

1989 LEGOLAND Pirate System 6274 Caribbean Clipper
Cpt. Dan replied to Drummer4life55's topic in LEGO Pirates
I need to visit more garage sales apparently. if the price is right I may be interested in buying it. -
Foolishly I sold Armada Flagship and Renegade Runner to get some Lego Star Wars... But I am getting back into it. I have to say that the RR was very underrated, such a cool set.

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Cpt. Dan replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Definitely from Rancor Battalion, had about 2 seconds of screen time in S3 Arc Troopers Episode. ARC is Hammer from the episode. If Lego is going after somewhat remote characters in these episodes, I am curious what they will be featuring in future sets. It should be exciting to see what they come up with. -

Guess this guy isn't a shiny . Let me know what you guys think!!

Wow. Wow. Lego has gotten out of control! Every time they release a great line of sets like they just have, the next series gets better... That video showing the desert skiff with the new Boba and new blaster is sick. How I will wait for the new Luke fig, I have no idea. I have been waiting for this for years. I cannot wait for this summers releases! Only thing I ask, is what will they think of next!? I know it is cliche but TLG is doing a wonderful job.

My guess is a lot of it has to do with the new pieces coming out with every set. The old sets we used to get had a few new pieces but mostly consisted of recycled parts and creativity. Now, with each new mold comes a huge price increase. A mold alone I heard can cost thousands of dollars. If they are making $.25/set for arguments sake, they have to sell a huge amount of sets to offset that cost. They are probably making more, but still... As long as they keep cranking out a quality product, I will be more than happy to buy it, even if it means my dollar doesn't go as far. As for inflation, that is an interesting argument but I hope that $15 in 2006 is not $25 today or we are in some serious trouble on the fiscal end, moreso than we are now

Now I wish Lego would come out with this for an x wing. Great work. But I think these pictures swayed me to getting the 9493, the question is if I can wait a week for the local WalMart or get the points with Lego... Decisions...Decisions... Only complaint is I wish they stuck with the color scheme on the technic parts behind the cockpit instead of tan, I think it looks ridiculous.

Solution for Millenium Falcon boarding ramp
Cpt. Dan replied to Nom Carver's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Great work. I got excited for a minute, I was hoping for an idea how to fix the 2011 Falcon's boarding ramp. It's pretty much useless as it is stock -
Saw this on FBTB. Wow! Such a great job capturing the lines and the ship overall. The engines are Great work!

Review: 9489 Endor Rebel & Imperial Trooper BP
Cpt. Dan replied to mutley777's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Besides the speeder bike which we all have a thousand of, this is by far the best battle pack yet in my opinion. I love the versatility of the figures, especially the Rebel commandos which can go towards an awesome army that we all have been waiting for. Other than the Phase I clone battle pack, this has to be my favorite at least by a mile. -
Oh yeah! This is awesome great work. I was kind of annoyed they didn't use ARC 170's instead but this is a sweet job on this. A fleet of these would be awesome.

Review: 9488 Elite clone & Commando Droid BP
Cpt. Dan replied to mutley777's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Not sure if someone has said it yet but I had a feeling the ARF trooper was part of Rancor Battalion? -
I think I am probably one of many with the same story, but I was in my dark ages and while bored one day, I searched for legos on google. Sure enough, this website came up and I was amazed at how great of a community it was. Being an adult myself, I knew I was not alone and joined within a few days. I am very happy to be a part of this community!

I can understand that people do not like it, but I am not sure why people care that much. If you don't like it, don't buy it. I think that's simple enough. I credit Lego for going after a new demographic, if anything we should be happy it is expanding because if their sales continue to grow all that means is more unique items will be created. It's not like in a few years the only lines will be BelVille and Friends . From a business standpoint this is an interesting angle for the company to try and I hope it works. It just seems so strange that there is so much backlash on this line release.
-
Such a strange concept but an awesome build nonetheless. The detail on it is excellent and I love the turret on the bottom. Great work very cool
-
An interior would make this all the more epic. I can't believe no one has mentioned the size of this thing much. It's huge!! Impressive. Most impressive.
-
Wow! Great work Davor. I love the lines on this one, the angles are very well executed and the way you did it gives it a great armor plating look without studs. Impressive
-
I totally forgot about this until I looked and saw 200 posts just now I believe I am close to 50% SW forum. Definitely a SW nerd right here Any chance I could have a tag KimT?

With a little bit of brasso, some Bricklink, and those decals that would be a perfect Wat Tambor. The breathing app from Cad Bane actually looks perfect, that is a wonderful idea for that. Waterslides would make a sweet Tambor too.
