"Dead Men Tell No Tales" Vignette Contest - Discussion
Norrington replied to Norrington's topic in Pirate MOCs
Maybe, but you have many more years of experience with Lego than I do. And yes, I am a hardcore fan of this theme, scince I was 5, and went on the PotC at Walt Disney World. I'm going to the DisneyLand version this summer because the Florida version is abridges, and left out most of the Grotto, the Arsenal, and a cuple other scenes. Edit: Just saw the thing about the ride book, it dosn't happen to be called: "Pirates of the Caribbean; from the Magic Kingdom to the Movies"? If so I have it, my dad picked it up for me on a buisness trip to califronia where he stayed at the Disney Hotel. Or maybe it was the "Pirates of the Caribbean Suviner Book" from the 60's... -

Just look at my basic ride overveiw or search for pics on the internet. Also Mr. Scouts, Just because I am a judge dosn't mean I'll favor myself, infact, I bet Mr. Brickster would do beter than me if he enters. Also, all the entries will be in 3 polls, so you could vote for the same one in 3 different categories, like your magnificant knight contest. -

I don't see why I couldn't. I'm not going to be judging, just posting my 5 favs, then open a poll for the members of Eurobricks to decide. -

"Dead Men Tell No Tales" Vignette Contest - Discussion
Norrington replied to Norrington's topic in Pirate MOCs
Well, the purpose of the contest is to give credit to the original Pirates of the Caribbean ride, which inspired the movies. The main reason thugh, is because PotC was Walt Disney's last attraction that he worked on before he passed away in 1967, and this year is Walt's 100th birthday. The revised rules: -The vig can be any size that has length and widths in multiples of 8. -The vig can depict an scene from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. - Starting this Monday, you have until April 19th to enter your vigs before this thread is closed. - Only one contest entry per person. - Image size may be no larger than 320 x 240 (landscape or portrait). - File size may be no larger than 100 KB. - Any background image may be used for your knight including real models. - Judging will be performed by Eurobrick members as a separate poll. -Have fun! After the thread is closed, I will take a couple of days to think, then I will post my top 5, and a poll for people to vote in and decide which is the best in 3 categories: Build, Accuracy, and Figures. Hope this clarifies it enough to have it Front-paged. -
Search "Pirates of the Caribbean" at your local library. Also, I count swivlers, so in your standards is 16 guns, but in mine its 18.

Maybe to get the contest more attention, you could front page it? That worked for Brickster's reveiw of the CC. Or front page it on Pirate-bricks? -
"Dead Men Tell No Tales" Vignette Contest - Discussion
Norrington replied to Norrington's topic in Pirate MOCs
Well, Phes, jsut random members will vote which ones they think are the best, similar to Brickster's Magnificant Knight Contest. Also the ride is called "Pirates of the Caribbean." "Dead men tell no tales" is just the words that the ghostly voice says in the grotto squence. Also, the various scences have been changed scince 1967. The ride did not originally have 1) The Spanish Soldiers in the fort 2) The Looter at the very end but were added in 1997 along with the redone chase scene. Then in 2005 they added Jack Sparrow to the dunking, having hide behind some dress maker's dolls, in the barrel looking the pooped pirate's treasure map over his shoulder, and in the treasure room where the looter was, Davy Jones appeared in one of the waterfalls, and Barrabosa was made the captain of the Wicked Wench. -
Well, here's my breif desription: Well, you enter the ride in New Orleans sqaure, a small part of DisneyLand modeled after The Queen of the Delta. You go through the queue to Lafitte's Landing (The ride has it purposly mispelled), where you board the long boats. Then you start the journey down the peaceful Blue Bayou Lagoon, where you pass a elderly gentlemen playing "Ol' Susana" on the Banjo, while smoking a pipe. Then you proced to a bricklined passage way, where a Talking skull warns you of looming dangers, and to hold on tight, then you ride down a waterfall, where you hear "Yo-ho-yo-ho A pirate's life for me!" for the first time, then the song is cut short by another waterfall, and a ghostly voice admonsihing "Dead men tell no tales!" Over and over again. You pass by scenes of pirates that are long deceased. My favorite is the Cap'n's Qaurters, because a harpsichord is playing "A Pirate's life for me!" You then exit from the grotto in the midst of a battle between the pirate Galleon the Wicked Wench and the spanish fort. You escape the battle unscathed, finding a way through the town canal, where you fid the town magistrate, Carlos, being dunked, because the pirates want him to reveal the location of the treasure. His mistress in the window encourages Carlos not to talk. You pass this scene of Caribbean water torture to find some more pirates auctioning off the town beuties, the item on the auction block is the best deal at only 6 coins, but the crowd constantly insists "We want the Red'ead!" Then you pass under a bridge to where some pirates are looking for love in the wrong places. They are chasing town maidens that were not captured for the auction. The Pooped Pirate in the foreground brandishes a frilly slip of a maiden he's been chasing, while the maiden in the backround pops her head out of the barrel, to see if the pooped pirate is gone. We then join most of the crew in the best of them all: Burning down the city. 3 musicians, a dog, and donkey play the Pirate Anthem, as the inebriated brigands help sing in the back round. There are some pirates other than the hat theif who want to escape, but are hindered by a innocent gaurd dog. The Attack is not over! Some extremly drunk brigands have broken into the town's military arsenal, and are having a shooting match over who can it the clearly marked "Explosivos" whcih they think is rum. Then you travel past this scene, to another, where there is a small stash of treasue, and a pirate is making an escape. He has taken his jolly rodger, put a butt-load of treasure in it, and is trying to pull it up the upramp. Trivia: Did you know that The grotto originally featured real skeletons from the UCLA medical center? The Plastic of the time was to unrealistic. The bodies were later returned to their countries of origin for burial. The only remaining real skull in the disney land original is the skull of the Captain reading in bed. It was a gift given to Walt by a friend. Also, jsut so you know, there is a (Shortened) PotC in Walt Disney World Florida, a Lengthend in Disneyland Paris, and a relitivly the same one is Tokyo Disneyland. The video Mr. Cole is refering to is an excert from a 1967 episode of "Walt Disney's Wonderfull World of Colour". Any of the European or Australian ;^) user wh have it, you can veiw it on disk 2. Though you shuld know they have the grotto scenes out of order in that video, they are in the order I have them Listed. that helped ;-) Also, the people will judge, once all entries are in, I'll set up a thread in which there are polls on how they went each will be rated on creativity, imanagitive building styles etc. ALso, for Mr.Phes, the Chase Scene (Maiden in the barrel) was deemed 'Politicly incorrect' and was changed in the 1997 rehab to them chasing maidens with food. The reason it was 'Politicly incorrect' was because some femnists 8-( couldn't bear the thought of what would happen to the maidens after the pirates caught them, and because the Pooped Pirate was spewing dialauge like "I'd like to hoist my colors on the likes of that little wench" And "Keep a weather eye open for her, I be willin' to share I be!" Which is actully ok for a PIRATE ride, because most pirates died from venerial deisesies they picked up in "Nasty Houses".

Discussion for the Dead Men Tell No Tales Vignette Contest Here was the original idea... Psst! Avast there! It be too late to alter course, mateys. And there be plundering pirates lurkin' in ev'ry cove, waitin' to board. Sit closer together and keep your ruddy hands in board. That be the best way to repel boarders. And mark well me words, mateys: Dead men tell no tales! Ye come seekin' adventure with salty old pirates, eh? Sure you've come to the proper place. But keep a weather eye open mates, and hold on tight. With both hands, if you please. Thar be squalls ahead, and Davy Jones waiting for them that don't obey. Well, the purpose of this contest is to give some credit to the classic DisneyLand attraction that has inspired not just a seris of movies, but has entertained audiences around the world. THis is commerateing the last attraction that the Great Walter Elias Disney before his death in 1967,and his 100th birthday this year. I have decided to make a vignette contest based on a ride that is made of a bunch of very big vignettes. There has been alot of PotC movie stuff on BS, but no PotC ride stuff, so in honour of the Attraction that inspired it all! I look forward to what you will create. The revised rules: - The vig can be any size that has length and widths in multiples of 8. - The vig can depict an scene from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. - Starting this Monday, you have until April 19th to enter your vigs before this thread is closed and my personal judging happens. - Only three contest entry per person. - Image size may be no larger than 320 x 240 (landscape or portrait). - File size may be no larger than 100 KB. - Any background image may be used for your scene including real models. - Judging will be performed by Eurobricks members as a separate poll. - Have fun! After the thread is closed, I will take a couple of days for my private judging, then I will post my top 5, and a poll for people to vote in and decide which is the best in 3 categories: Build, Accuracy, and Figures. Unfortunatly, I cannot offer a prize except for winning the respect and admiration for your building skills from the Eurobricks community. The competition his been arranged, so submit entries in this thread from Monday 16th of April onwards. For those unfamilair with the Pirates of the Caribbean Ride visit the Pictorial Synopsis thread.

Well, remember the end of DMC? I got promoted just for that.

I'd say France, because before Napoleon's time the old regime soldiers were white-coats, and called "Les Blancs".

They don't... the're zombies!!

Ahh... SO now she's an Imperial Ship I see... I hope my sigfig can still be on the Qaurter deck... In fact, that would mean this is the Imperial Flagship and would make me Admiral Norrington... he he he...

I have a model of the Black Pearl on my shelf, and for the Intercepter, on a vacation, I was looking for pirate books or refences, and there upcame a PotC visual dictionary. I didn't check it out from the library, but i looked at the Norrington page, and lo and behold, there was a picture of the Intercpter, with the caption "The Intercepter is a 18 gun brig, with guns on 2 decks." I'm preuming that the're counting the f'o'castle and qaurter deck as 1 deck as a single deck because the're at the same level. So I counted the cannons aside, then muliplied by 2, then I had confirmed the books description. As for how gundecks come into play, that seems simple. Two ships run along side each other, or start shooting from a long distance, most of the ships have most or all of their guns on a gundeck. All clear now?

Forget political correctness! As long as it's historical, I'm fine with it. Also, political correctness ruined PotC! The chase scene went from chasing maidens: *Wink-wink-nudge-nudge* To after food: To after J. Sparrow: To qoute Davy Jones: "Damn you Jack Sparrow!" Political correct-ness was the death of a classic attraction. Also, if it bothers you (Which is surprising as the Inquisition didn't care about forcing the MesoAmericans to work to death) maybe my Quequeq figure will now play as "Governor's slave"... >8-)

Yeah, I got the Fire Nation ship, and one of the grey arches was either: Speckled with silver, or stressed to the point of stress marks all over the peice.
-
Oh my God... What idiot would buy that?!?! ( With my luck that idiot will turn out to be a mod here :-D ) This is the kind of thing that makes me want to crochet a neuce and hang myself :-( stupid people, ruining the worth of lego by doing this crap with it.

The French frigate L'Orient: Work in progress
Norrington replied to Bonaparte's topic in Pirate MOCs
Touche. Maybe he is a American serving in the armed forces of Britain before the revolution ;-) -
Looks a little like a very tall Greek Tireme...

Actully, the Black Pearl has 20 guns. 5 on each of the gundeck sides, 4 on the upper deck a side, and 1 side in the Cap'n's qaurters. Also, the Intercepter actully has 18 guns. 8 on the main deck, 6 on the qaurterdeck (Counting the the two swivel guns) , and 4 on the Forecastle. So even though Mr.Cole has most of his information wrong, he does have the part of the Black Pearl and Intercepter being allmost equal correct. Also Mr. Cole, the wheel of a ship is on the qaurter deck, but just below the poop. You see, the Poop has a little overhang the shadows the wheel of the ship, therefore, the wheel is on the qaurter deck.

Maybe, but Fort Victoria is now Port Victoria, because of it's recent town addition, unfortunatly, it wouldn't integrate well, because unlike Brighton, it is not a complete fort, and due to a lack of bricks, the town has to be incomplete, in the sense that the building are there, but burning down to save grey bricks, also, my figs are recreateing at current: The PotC Auction and Dunking scenes...

It looks ok, but it has a gunport under the qaurter deck, and I think shuld be longer. It was based of the ship, the Wicked Wench, from the ride. You should know on each side on the gundeck, is five guns, on the upper deck is four guns, and there's another gun in the Cap'n's cabin. Also, there is 3 windows on each side of the stern, and 3 on the back.
