  1. The Lego Railway Series

A series of trains from a Lego Railway!

Hello there! I'm The LEGO Railway Series! For those of you who don't know me from twitter, I model characters from The Railway Series (Thomas the Tank Engine) but I do so as realistically as possible using the actual basis for the characters. So I posted here on Eurobricks once before and just never kept up with the site or the thread. So I'm just gonna start over again! I'm gonna be using this thread as a central place to post all of my stuff to make things easier for myself. So what better model to get this started off with than Thomas! Everyone knows Thomas is an E2, so that's what I've built. He's got as many bells and whistles as I could cram onto the model. He's fully motorized using Power Functions (IR receiver and an M motor) and is powered by a 9v battery in the firebox area. (it needs a custom wire adaptor to transfer the power to the PF components) He also has an entire cab interior with controls and everything. Aside from the side rods which use modified liftarms to attach the flex tubing, the 9v battery adaptor wire, and some custom wheels (I plan on using Breckland Bricks wheels), the entire model is Legal and buildable. Unfortunately I've not been able to physically build this model yet, but I plan on it by before the year is up! 2. I've been a long time lurker here and decided to finally bite the bullet and post. I don't know how tagging works or what the etiquette is for this site yet, so feel free to yell at me for that stuff it I miss something or whatever. Anyway I've been posting stuff on twitter and other places for a while now but I thought I would break the ice here finally. So here is my most recent build, its all digital for now until I have the funds to actually start building my models. But here is my Railway Series inspired Thomas the Tank Engine. 31.5 studs long buffer to buffer. he's a long boy, so the couplings swivel atm to make it around bends with rolling stock. currently I doubt they will work for pushing, but ill find a solution to that when I build the model physically. pulling should be fine. 15 stud wheelbase from the center of the wheels. (I know the middle isn't a blind in the images and that a physical build would require it) Fully motorized with a PF M motor and an IR receiver and powered by a normal 9v Battery with an adaptor wire. Full decorated cab interior. I've also done my best to make sure he's build out of parts that actually exist and actually physically buildable and legal. This model does have a single illegal technique, the hands holding the flex tube on the left side of the boiler.

    MOC: NWR No. 1 "Thomas"

Back again, this time with one of the most beloved steam engines in all the world, re-made in Lego form. Thomas the Tank Engine Thomas, as he appears in the Railway Series books by the Reverend Wilbert Awdry, is a London, Brighton & South Coast Railway E2 Class Tank locomotive, with extended side tanks for holding extra water. As described in the story "Thomas and Gordon", the engine has "...six small wheels, a short stumpy funnel, a short stumpy boiler, and a short stumpy dome." Thomas served as a station pilot for Knapford station, but was given his own branch line to run between Ffarquhar and Knapford after saving the new engine James from an accident in a field. Thomas enjoys running on the branch line, along with his coaches Annie and Clarabel. Here is the Lego model next to the real-life E2 Class tank engine. The E2s had terrible fuel consumption, so were often stuck in station pilot jobs. According to steam locomotive enthusiast Chris Eden-Green, Thomas did to the E2s what Back to the Future did to the DeLorean. My model combines aspects from both the real-life E2 and the illustrations in the Railway Series. There are downsweeps for the buffer beams on both ends of the engine, along with a wheel arch at the front end of the water tank. The wheels are from Big Ben Bricks, while the side rods were purchased from a specialty shop on Bricklink. Birds-eye view, showing the red stripes on the boiler. Thomas' two coaches, Annie and Clarabel, are based more off their TV series counterparts than the Railway Series counterparts, mostly due to budgetary constraints. Annie can only take passengers, while Clarabel can take passengers, luggage and the guard (conductor). Clarabel also has extended side windows to give the guard a better view of the line. Both coaches rely very heavily on SNOT techniques, with alternating directions for windows and bottom sides. They're rather an attractive build I am very proud of, and they add a whole lot to Thomas, making him look like a very busy - yet Really Useful - tank engine. That is about it. I hope you enjoy the build, and any comments or questions are most welcome. Thanks for viewing! Always entertaining, always inspiring, always:
  4. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum for this topic, but please do move this thread if not. Is the Thomas the Tank Engine licence negotiable for construction toys for Lego? I know Mattel made products for the Mega Bloks brand and apparently still do, so could and would Lego do products again for the licence currently, at least under the Duplo and/or Juniors themes?
  5. A fun little deviation from my usual steam locomotive MOCs. Thomas was my gateway drug into the world of steam railways. The design was actually a lot trickier to figure out than I anticipated, and I'm not 100% happy with how it turned out - but it'll do. I plan on incorporating this engine into my planned Lego railway layout too. Steam railways here in the UK often have "Thomas days" where one of their usual locos gets painted blue and fitted with a face, as an attraction for children. So this engine will represent that.
  6. Hi, None of you know me But I know that you are all extremely enthusiastic about LEGO Trains, and I want to be, but being a young lad I do not have the greatest skills compared to a lot of great examples. But that isn't stopping me, I'm trying to get better at what I do as it is the only reason I have nearly 2,000,000 video views on Youtube because of my lust for LEGO Thomas and Friends trains targeted at Children. I remember starting out and seeing other peoples work to get me inspired, Currently I have a couple of LEGO Models from the show I am rather satisfied with, they are slowly taking shape... When I see other peoples LEGO Thomas and Friends Models, I never hate them, I just always think they are either too large, distorted from the original models from the TV Series, or even being too detailed can be a problem... With my Model (which I know will never be perfect and is quite distorted from certain angles) I have tried to keep to a small normal lego 6 wide mini figure scale train system... with a few exceptions of side plates and extra little details. I am currently working on Annie and Clarabel very much inspired not only by the show but by models by technoandrew. His work is showcased on youtube under that name And I think you will find his work outstanding! they are currently going to be the widest, most detailed coaches I have built for my railway but I still need help with designing some of these because I am losing focus when it comes to techniques. I also own all 3 Creator trains (Emerald Knight, Maersk train and Horizon Express). I try my best to keep these beauties dusted and fix and replace parts if I think they need modernising. (There are a lot of features on the Emerald Knight I have modified with newer bricks) So I am used to Trains at least 7 studs wide... I don't want to go too far into detail as I said before too much detail I think can ruin the look and feel of Thomas and Friends, I would much rather save the detailing for the sets and scenery as that is what stood out to me in the TV series, just how much detail and effort went into the little model houses, and train tracks and background and the simplicity of the trains. Attatched are links to my Youtube Channel and Deviantart page where I post update photos about the trains I have and you can see my progress. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UColNrPegOp0bR90t2rVHxTA http://shortround551.deviantart.com
  7. Hi I'm new in this forum (well, actually I have been reading here for a year) so I'll do something myself. Here I am presenting my Lego Thomas and Friends range that I have designed totally in LDD. It took me about 1 year till now (or even longer) to design all the engines. First we start with Thomas Then Edward, I designed the driving wheels higher as I would use Big Ben Bricks medium drivers for that model. Henry follows Then Gordon the Express Engine Duck the Great Western Oliver Arthur Molly Stanley Annie and Clarabel to go with Thomas The red coaches A well wagon Bulgy Maithwaite Station (not finished) And finally non-Thomas related stuff A narrow gauge train layout with the existing lego track A big train station And at last a GNR C1 Atlantic engine. That is the only engine that I actually have in real bricks, however the LDD model is a little bit different - I don't have green wheels and am planning to buy the XL Big Ben Bricks drivers which should look better. I built the model out of 2 Emerald Nights, however I don't have actual pictures for the real version. I hope you enjoyed it! ScotNick P.S.: I actually wanted to upload my Thomas model on Cuusoo, but as someone else made a (not the best) Thomas model before me they didn't allow me to. P.P.: Sorry, I tried to upload the pictures here but it didn't work so I put just the link there. Edit: Found out how to post the pictures directly.
  8. Hello Train peoples :) Here to you I present a Tank Engine I built some time ago. It is probably obvious enough what it's based upon :P It may not be much, but it was the first thing I built after my dark ages. Now, with no further ado, here are the pictures! Please excuse my poor camera quality :( The rods on the wheels are actually single track pieces. This side view shows how big the cab is, i'm not sure if the proportions look proper or not.. The Unexciting back view! The inside of the cabin is a simple firebox and 4x1 tile with controls on it. Another angle of it... And finally, here is a front view of the engine. I think it looks better with two headlamps, but that's just my preference. I think I prefer working in 8 stud wide engines more than the usual 6, which is what I used to do when I was younger. The main reason I put these pictures up is because i'm probably going to dismantle it in a few days to use the blue parts for some other creations. Please let me know what you think of it, or if you have any suggestions that could make this or any future engines I might build any better? There was a great steam engine that used to run through my back garden in the 1850's to the 1950's, recently a book was published on it, i'm considering recreating it in Lego form.. Axle
