    The Kraken attacks !

Hi there, I don't often come to this forum due to the high quality of most of your creations I can't compete with, but I would like to introduce, just for you, one of my last Work In Progress. I'm the only one in my french lug in working with lego old ships of the line, and in applying the Captain Green Hair's technic, and I have built several ships by this way, but this light frigate, instead of being quite simple, was conceived with a particularity : she consists in two parts made to fit and to slide perfectly the one on the over, wich is nearly invisible on the pictures. The Espada (it is supposed to be a spanish frigate) was conceived to make part of a gigantic project of diorama. In facts, the scene is too big to allow me to put it in my room, that's why I have to wait to be in an exhibition to take pictures or videos, and the public usually likes it. It is also still a project ; much things are to be improved, but the mecanism has proved itself and I could take the first videos so that I can share it with you and extend the creation of Eurobricks. The scene represents a spanish flotilla standing near a mysterious island, when a kraken suddently appears close to the coast, and sink two frigates. The kraken's tentacles are animated, and the prow of the Petirrojo is in flames, buffeted by the monster, while the sea opens and sinks the stern of the Espada until she finishes into the mouth of the Kraken. OK, enough words, here are the videos : The sinking of the Espada, and you con see the whole diorama. The passengers of the Petirrojo trying to survive between the tentacles. Here, I introduce my waterfall system and a very small french army, before focusing on the cave I built beneath the island. And finally, additional videos taken during the tests, from several points of view. Well, that's all for the moment, I know that my ships are quite modest, due to the fact that I don't own a lof of amazing parts, but I hope my work stands noteworthy, and that you will like it. If you have any idea to help me in the continuation, it would be great to discuss about it right here. To go further, here is a small galery for the Espada : http://photos.freelu...aurent+B/Epada/ I had no time to make a movie of the scene, with scene edition and music of POTC, but I'll have it done one day Oh, and by the way, I apologize if my english is...strange Kind regards, LaurentB

    The Kraken attacks !

Thank you Skipper, but the frigate in the harbour was a special scene improvised for the exhibition and, the red bricks have nothing to do with the non-tiled-area ; they are skates designed to make her slide on the sea of my diorama when it lowers. There are two snot rails on the blue surface which align with the red bricks. Concerning the masts, the frigate is shown as making a stop, that's why the seamen are dismasting her, and her sails are rolled up.
  3. 91a Hello everybody, thak you very much for having the curiosity of visiting my thread ! After a few weeks following and inspirating the instructions of Captain Green-Blue Hair *very special thanks*, I finally conclude the intense and passionnating building of my new flagship that will stay in the ornaments of my room for a time. I can't wait to expose the pictures I took, but I also want to tell the story, more fantastic and poetic than historically rigorus, that shrounds the spirit I borrowed during the construction. I don't use to write english as often as french, so I apologize if something is wrong...I also hope you're going to have a not bad time Captured by the french some decades ago, a so long time ago that anyone really remember how it happened, either who won the battle, and that not any record or notebook mention the fact, L'Archiveur, in another remote life, had been a famous ship while serving for Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain, particularly known for having lead the first expedition to the Eldorado River that discovered the way to precolumbian treasures mentionned in some records of the Royal Navy and in some extracts of the Captain Inksand's log, that was never found back after he got killed during the battle that saw his ship taken over by the french. Today, a few old mates, soldiers or sailers, whose stories were mixed with the circumnavigations of the ship will remember for you that the Captain Inksand had always had a premonition since the day when he came back from Eldorado River, as if she was enchanted ; in fact, those mates also will tell you that during the return to Grat Britain, the expedition passed through a tremendous storm that sunk three of the five boats, so that the only survivors were the flagship leaded by Inksand, and a frigate known as HMS Rose, that transported some modest treasures in her holds. Because of the shipwreck and the lack of clues for interesting resources, the expedition was kept secret, the treasures dissolved between merchants, and the Eldorado forgotten. The enthusiasm that Inksand and his ship had aroused in the past times totally disappeared, and the dreams for extending the British Empire to sacred grounds of Eden and conquesting unknown civilizations, replaced by a race to the domination of the seas, when the french renamed the taken ship L'Archiveur. Today we are getting closer and closer to the end of the century, some memories get fading onto the water of insouciance since Great Britain finished to take control of all the routes of the sea and acquired by an ultimate démonstration of his strongness, the monopoly of the tread with the Remote Empire from Outer Seas ; the sailing age is coming to an end, more and more ships are sent to the break-in in order to improve the steam and iron technologies, and as a consequence L'Archiveur was about to be downgraded by the vote of the congress once for all and his history burried under the peace established by the relations with the Remote Empire from Outer Seas, when Captain Beaufort received a special mission from the France Empire, a kind of ultimate parade for his ship. This time, the goal of her mission is not to go to America and discover the way to a precolumbian world or to a remote paradise, but to cross the seas in the greatest secrecy in order to follow, intercept, and capture a dissident frigate that escaped from Dunkerque some days ago, taking direction of the Remote Empire. The Remote Empire from Outer Seas has been seducing a great number of intelectuals and all kind of oppressed people for the time it has developped relations with europeans powers, so that a lot of militaries from the dismembered armies who didn't took an oath to the Royal Navy use to organize the migrations to this promised land. Offended for his historical defeat in front of the Great Britain during the centruy, the France Empire is the last power that didn't change his mind for that time, and that has kept on forbidding migrations. But Captain Beaufort is not taken fooled ; his premontion is the same than Captain Inksand's, and he suspects that the frigate he has to catch up along the coasts of the continent, represents or carries something more important than dissidents ; what he doesn't know is the fact that this frigate was stolen from the Royal Navy, and that it is HMS Rose, the old L'Archiveur's friendship. Both are now launched into a time trial toward the Remote Empire from Outer Seas, and if the determination of the crewmen has no limit, Captain Beaufort gets more and more puzzled between his duty that leads him to hunt inocents, and the wondering about what he is really purchasing, and overall about what he is going to find out about HMS Rose and about L'Archiveur, his own ship. It was very important for me to keep loyal to some concepts of classic lego ships, such as the crane for the net, the lanterns, and overall the basic system with the big dots to attach the sails, a naive aspect that I conserved in the use of fat elastics to roll the sails up. The ornaments for the stern and the bow are also minor ; I tried to create sober and menacing style ; I hope that my first trial with the headrail is not a complete failure. Only the port broadside has guns at its disposal, the interior of the hull was too narrow to allow other canons because of the importance of the load-bearing structure. I concepted a fonctional capstan, the principe is a vertical winch and a doble rope that supports the two anchors in the same time. Well, I and the mate responsible for the color scheme, are hoping that you have enjoyed. Of course, I have some other pictures to post, and I will present you the whole crew and tell you the story of the men in the next few days, but for the moment I have to think about the construction of HMS Rose, dig into my modest collection in order to see if I have the parts in order to build a two-masted ship. Thank you very much to CGBH, and you who visited the thread

    MOC : Pirate Ship Charon

Note the superficy of the main sail, cut in an old black tee-shirt. Each broadside is are made to care six canons on two rows. Skull and bow canons complete the menacing shape of the ship. The use of official military flags is one of the stratagemes used by my pirates in order to get closer to the ships they're hunting. When as near as possible, Tony Oil-Spitter just have to blow on the torch in order to throw a destructive fire that can burn the hull, masts and crewmen of the target, so that the boarding is just an additionnal task ; this strategy is inspired by the fire-ships. During the battles, fire-ships were thrown to a man-o-war in order to neutralize it as fast as possible, and even if it just consisted in an old downgraded ship put in fire and pushed by the wind, it was one of the most feared weapons, because it was, obviously, able to transmit a devastating fire to every wooden ship. The captain of the ship, Sir Surscout, is a renegade corsair decided to obtain a ransom thanks to his last hostage, the Empire Princess, captured on the last ship he sunk. Captain Brickbeard was downgraded to a pilote job, but his alliance with Surscout seems to hide something unusual since he uses to be a solitary sea-hunter. The main mast is very high for the shortness of the hull, as a consequence, the stability of the ship can be endangered. Captain Brickbeard, Sir Surscout and Princess Adelie, wish you were not disappointed by the exposition of the Charon. Anyway, they don't accept any visits onboard.

    2010 Community Build

I don't dubt this will have great results with all the good builders working on. I'm not a moc expert but I would be glad to participate if still possible, by taking in charge a humble house (29 or 30). Fun and lluck for everyone, this is a pretty Christmas present Edit : If not, maybe I could help to fill the list up by taking in charge the sugar mill ?

    MOC : Pirate Ship Charon

Thanks for your feedback, feel free to comment every thing. It is a minifig I have invented by myself, there is nothing surprising if you don't find it anywhere ^^ The face is taken from an historic theme, I don't remember if it is from a medieval or chinese set. The flames are supposed to be thrown to the boarded ship, but instead of being an ordinary fire ship, mine includes several torches that can be blasted away by a fire-eater. But I also imagine that it is a way to create a large blazing reflection on the water, that could be dreadful for the other sailors. I agree with you and I would have been able to build a brig, but I just had one half-section for this hull, and I thought it was interesting to create a wonderful and unrealistic ship based on the disproportion between the boat and the sail. But I was also inspired by wooden model of a corsair sea cutter that has the same rigging.

WIP The Making of a Fleet

There are lot of very good elements on your ship, particularly the blue color scheme that is very well assorted with the lion theme, the fences with white cones, do you aim at putting them on the whole lenght of the ship ? I also like the way you succeded in curving the deck with beautyful tan plates, and the stern is quite original, with a wise amount of ornaments. Moreover, I'm in love with the little door you put in between the stairs, this detail is very charming. But about the stern, I think the two sides are a bit one strange, juste because of the sloped bricks that surround the windows of the second cabin. It gives a squared aspect to the cabins, it is a little pity. Good luck for the following, I will carefully watch for your progress ;) Humbly, Ingmar

Really incredible, the white colour scheme seems to be perfect, will the 9-mid sections frigate have two rows of guns ? Keep on updating frequently, it is a geat pleasure to follow the construction of your project

    Who is he ?

Bad is the less we can say of course, we easily understand why the fig is not appreciated by afol, and I agree with them...I remember several other promotional collections we could find in Happy Meals, and it was not so bad I think. Thank you for the clarification ;)

    Who is he ?

Good evening everyone, excuse-me for disturbing, or if this is the wrong place, or if I'm a noob, but I have to say that I made some research and didn't find anything, that's why I wanted to put the question on the forum...The fact is that I made a quite surprising discovery last time I bought a lego batch in a bric-a-brac sale : I did'nt care about this fig, thinking it was an ordinary plastic character mixed up with the bricks I had bought, looking like a hybrid between a knight and Darth Vader, until I saw the lego logo on the back : I can't see the collection this fig belongs to, but I'm curious and would like to know your wise opinion about the unidentified object... Humbly, Ingmar.

Me and my fleet on the move

That's fun, I saw your pictures on BS yesterday, before the forum ^^ You have a very large collection, that is quite impressive, and I particularly like the last picture with the wide range of colours that we can found on your sails. But I was also surprised by the upper-right ship of the sixth picture, that looks like one of my old ship that was called Hermes, and that I had to rebuild. I have to say that I love your work on the figureheads too !

WIP The Making of a Fleet

I really can't want to see your project once it will be finished, your fleet will certainly be amazing, one ship based on the CPGBH-like model is already very nice, but six under the same flag can't be anything else than wonderful. I am really optimistic for your work, and I won't miss any of the pics you will post, I keep myself posted how the MOCs of the forum are, it is a kind of Christmas just for the eyes ^^ Good luck, humbly.

Dutch VOC ship the Prins Willim, minifig scale!

I don't think so, the flames looked quite powerful when I saw the pictures of the fire. I'm not an expert, but in my opinion, even if the hull seems to be intact, the inside damages may be critical and the flames probably fragilized the structure. It is a great pity to see the stern totally destructed with only some parts of the floor remaining...Well, thank you very much for the pictures.
  14. Broadcast some days ago on the french TV news, I present you this interesting but quick report about the technic used by the conceptors of the assembly line for the A380. The last aircraft of Airbus company is the most imponent plane ever built, and for his mass-production, new and great building sites had to be constructed and in order to project themselves into the universe of the factory and the space of the machines, the designers worked on a 1/50 model of the assembly line, that is to say on the minifig scale. But this is not a game or an accessory ; the model was useful for the distribution of the surface and for the spacial projection. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xb85mb_qu...-france-jo_tech The subject is quite surprising for this TV show that has one the worst quality, but that is the most popular for this market. And of course, the model is beautyful, the tallest I have ever seen, and also very nice with the quantity of engines that makes it amazingly realistic and serious. I hope you feel the same surprise than mine
  15. Oh no, I'm really sorry, I have no problem for watching the video, what a noob I don't understand what happens... Well, I just have to delete the thread if it doesn't work and everyone says the same thing, sorry.

MOC : The Story of L'Archiveur

Dear all, I'm currently working on HMS Rose, the building is quite difficult because I don't own anymore a lot of parts, overall the tan ones for the decks, whereas this ship will be much smaller (2 masts), but it will be finished in a few time. I had other pics for L'Archiveur, from the point of view of the crewmen and continuing talking on the story of the ship, I thought it would have been quite fun to post them now, because it is quite far-fetched : Captain Beaufort is watching to the sea, he still doesn't know how to consider his premonition, but he feels that something weird is hidding in his boat, a bad feeling, something like a voice, suggests him that his ship is heading to an aventure much more fascinating and mysterious than what he and his crew were expecting. Master Lançon was the first crewman in guessing that something was wrong with Captain Beaufort and his mind ; since yesterday on the morning, it seems that this anxiety disturbs him and that he holds the ship's course, worst and worst. Boatswain Le Goff is a very popular, kind and warm character on L'Archiveur. He likes learning some tips to his fifth son, the crewman Gérard, when he's not joking with another of his sons. But this friendly aspect doesn't eclipse his heroic past ; he fought in a lot of battle and were rarely injured. First officer Vidal checks the course and has spent the night wondering what was happening around the Wheel, but he just has discovered that they were deviating from the way decided by the map, that's why a hard discussion is about to begin on the main deck. Second officer Jar Jar Truc is a mysterious character on the deck ; nobody knows how he really incorporated the crew, because someones tell that he would be the twelth son of boatswain Le Goff...or not. Nethertheless, everyone know that when you can see him runing round the decks, it means that he's looking for someone in order to tell a bad new. Between the bell and the capstan, Master's mate Plume is in great discussion with forman Leonard, they are trying to plan a strategy for the boarding of HMS Rose, while some of the crewmen discretely stare at them ; they never remember who of the two is the Le Goff's second son. Soldier Bernard is going for a morning walk, he uses to go around the whaleboat in order to talk with Pierre, the yeoman of the sheets, one of his old friends because they knew each other thanks to Le Goff's family. Yeoman Pierre is cleaning the whaleboat, he's not very interested in a lot of things and is not a passionnating man...Well, he's not dressed up to the nines either. Soldier Rousseau is a very proud, romantic and brave young man, so young that anyone in the crew is really sure he is an adult (someones even tell he's a woman...), but overall, he's interested in the navigation arts, he uses to stay on the bow in order to learn the sky maps with an astrolabe he inherited from one of his father...Yet, we're sure that this father was not Le Goff. Soldier Villette doesn't know what he's doing here, he spents his days watching to the skies and dreaming about the mysterious horizon, imaginating the curves of a gigantic monster that would bring him into a wonderful world hidden behind the mist layers, not so far from the Remote Empire from Outer Seas. Of course, his dreams assisted me during the building of the ship ^^ Soldier Tulipe is the Le Goff's eighth son and...Well, no comment... Mr Squelette seems to be having fun with two other subofficers, but don't ask me what he's doing here, he already was in the cabin when Beaufort and his men boarded. But since then, he didn't move and seems to be quite friendly... As friendly as Mr Squelette, Ingmar

What do you do when you build?

Very interesting topic, I didn't think that it could be so useful to look back at what we do qhile building...There is nothing than building to do in my studio, but I sometimes listen to music, classic music is the best solution to keep concentrated, and most of the time I talk alone =)

MOC : The Story of L'Archiveur

No, they're not envenly offset, there is an irregular alternation of 3 and 4 studs between the gun ports, except in the middle part. The problem is that because of the odd number of studs on the wall, I couldn't set the gun ports on the 6 studs parts in the normal way ; if I did the ports would have been close to a gap, I think the result would have been weird...The second layer of the problem is more simple, because when building the second stripe, I had to respect the shift between the two rows of guns and to arrange the gun ports so that the smoke of the lower ones doesn't disturb the upper ones. I don't know if I have been very clear, but I hope this detail is not to salient. Thank you very much, I can't wait to see the result, and didn't know that you did by yourself By the way, I've been checking in my collection and think that building HMS Rose will be possible if I succeed in completing the first steps, particularly because of the black jumpers. I'll keep you posted.

MOC : The Story of L'Archiveur

Thank you very much for help and tolerance, the pics are now available. It was not an amazing feat, the sails are just cut from one old T-shirt, and the ropes are linen strings, but it took me three or four days in order to rig everything, particularly the ratlines recquiered a lot of patience ; I had never tied so much knots in my life... I completly agree with you Perfectionnist, but I could experiment during the building that traditionnal guns are very bulky and don't allow to build a coherent interior ; I had to install them directly on the hinges which stability consequently was weakened, and also I had no place in order to install a mecanism to slip in the guns, they are fixed and not very solid. Unfortunatly I'm not often inspired by ornaments, I don't like to use them too much, and moreover I lack of chrome or golden parts. I agree with you that grey decks are not a very esthetic choice, but I had no over because in my last list of containts, I had not enough tan plates, which I would have prefered, but if I soon lead the construction of a frigate, probably it will be possible. Yes it was, this a story I have in mind for some months, planing to write a novel about this theme. Of course, my childhood was very impressed by the first pirate sets, so that the romantic age of sail has kept on being an inspirating theme, that I maintain thanks to the legos.

I'm very sorry for the pictures, they appear reduced in my navigator, I thought the problem was settled. I delet them provisionally and will rsiize them as soon as possible, hopping that the BS folder will be soon public. Yes you're all right Perfectionnist, pictures must be resized before uploading, that's why I'm quite disgusted tonight ^^ Humbly

WIP: Achille and Guerrière, French Frigates of 28 guns

My skills are quite limited, if not I would have been on the forum for a longer time , and I make some mistakes while typing, I just have to apologize . I just thought strange the way the cabin emerges from the hull on your last photo for exemple, but it is true that it integrates the shape from other points of view, and I had the impression that it is more prominent with bricks than in reality. Concerning the hull, I completely agree with the use of the original lego hulls, that's why I appreciate very much. Well, I hope you won't bear me a grudge, warmly

WIP: Superbe, a French 80 gun Ship of the Line

Your project is very impressive of course, but I can't imagine what exhausting it might be according to the number of parts. The blocks architecture looks quite complex and I hope it won't be too hard to add the decks. Your creations are very original, I suppose that this ship will be entirely tiled to, it will be great, and very tall, majestic when I imagine it with the masts and the whole hull. I'm a bit curious ; how many red curved slopes did you need to build the entire first step of the hull ? This a perfect idea, it gives to your ship a massive and menacing aspect, and overall it doesn't force you to build a bricked hull that would be excessively pixelized The colour scheme is very nice, it seems the red has a brown reflect thanks to the angle of the black stripes. However, I'm just fascinated when I look back at yours first pictures, the general looking and overall the curved gradation of the thickness of the hull is very impressive, she looks "fat" (pics 1&3) and it is very realistic ! The interior is as meticulous as what we used to see on the Achille and I hope that there will be a modular structure that will allow us to open your ship to make the minifigs travel as they want I also wanted to congraculate you for the wonderful bow that you showed in the first pictures, it has no pixel and is very well cared for such a scale, because what I was affraid of was to see a bricked-hull not very esthetic (for exemple your 2004-2005 ship which seemed to be a bit one baroque with her size, bizarre)... Well, I'm very happy to discover your very impressive works, and I won't miss the next steps, hoping to find back your tubed-headrails and a gigantic result !

Build a frigate with Captain Green Hair

Unfortunatly, the interior just means the cabin into which we feel a bit cramped, I didn't manage to install an interior because it didn't seem possible, I had to build strong structure to carry the guns and the top deck, that's why the hull makes a hollow sound. But once I read your comment Blackmoor, I remember the way I made it and wonder if it would not be possible to retake her once I'll have finished. It just would cost a lot of plates and I should have to think about a system in order to make the walls removable. Thank you for the sugstion, it is good to keep lego projects in mind I'm working on the ultimate step on those day ; rigging the ropes really takes a lot of time but it is very fun once you get the technic. I can't wait to finish it and take the pictures
