Legeaux, I don't know if you lurk the pirate boards much, but I never gave my compliments to your supremely built ship. I like the back of the ship a lot (the detailing and overall flow) even if the size is supposedly unrealistic. I'm also fond of the flow of the whole ship and how you've managed to keep the sides from being too straight (or how you've managed to retain a "curve" like feel to the sides if that makes any more sense). The "chasers" are a nice touch and I like the SNOT lattice windows, quite a bit. Cheers!

The newer themes look too juniorized
Berry Syedow replied to Nonpoint Fan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Snefroe, when you describe the "lazy consumerist", what portion of TLC's consumers are you describing, specifically? (I realize you were describing the broader market.) Also, I'd say the size factor does help fuel the junorization epidemic. Just look at TLC's latest sets of 50 and 100 dollars/euros from the Castle Theme. They're loaded with bulky junorized elements to increase the size of the product and justify the price (the dang dragon doens't help one bit). -
I'm pleased to see sharper images of the new 2007 Castle Sets! I'll surely pick up at least ten of the cross bow attack, if not more. X-D I only wish that the barding in the "Ogel Fortress" had instead been included in the jousting set. Oh, well, it's but a minor nitpick...

What Series do you wish Lego never made
Berry Syedow replied to V()()D()()'s topic in General LEGO Discussion
Sacrilege! I respect your honesty, though. ;-) Mr. Blueandwhite, you raise some notable points. I can only speculate as to why TLC manages itself the way it does right now (as I am not an employee, oh how I wish! :-P). One reason might be untapped market. Would TLC make as much money if they excluded other themes such as racers in favor of strengthening their bread and butter themes? Some might argue, yes, but how would they know? :-P Not long ago TLC recognized that there was a market for mechas and it capitalized on it. So far it seems to be a profitable endeavor. Now then, would they have made more money if they instead decided to add a few more city vehicles to their then current city lineup? Another reason is the dreaded contract! In a way TLC is trapped in this predicament because they've already signed contracts to many themes that would otherwise be a financial loss if TLC discontinued the theme. Of course the company would be silly to discontinue a popular and highly profitable theme like Star Wars, but I think you guys get my jist. All of this seems to be part of a frantic race to stay in the black when ironically it could be the very thing that keeps TLC in the red! My analysis seems to have gotten a bit garbled, but in the end if TLC keeps on making money then I'm alright with the overabundance of themes. :-) -

Hehe, yes, I noticed some similarities. (I wonder if he's seen my ship?) Onto the MOC: I dig the originality of the whole concept. Separately, neither of the themes (or theme element) are too original, but throw them together and a truly strange outcome can occur! Since I first saw this MOC on CC.com I have to agree with what one of the posters said: For such a large creation the result is surprisingly clean. This man really knows what he's doing. The Dwarf Stronghold is quite the menacing site. The builder did a very nice job of "chiseling" the entrances out of the rocky wall. The scattered vegetation is a nice touch, too. I'm only confused as to why the Stronghold's entrance isn't fortified from the outside. The ships: The SNOTty longboat is well constructed. It's a bit reminiscent of the other viking boat featured here recently. I like the look of the fortified viking galley quite a bit. It's clean and expertly crafted. My only gripe is that the "figurehead" seems somewhat large for the ship. (Though this MOC isn't meant to be realistic whatsoever. ;-)) Lastly, I must say that the kraken is my favorite part of this creation. It's simply beautiful. What more can a pirate fanatic ask for? :-P A masterfully done MOC. *y*

Sets containing piratical and/or complimentary elements!
Berry Syedow replied to Berry Syedow's topic in LEGO Pirates
I don't believe anyone has mentioned it, yet. Which isn't surprising since many "old-school" pirate fans don't appreciate the <insert that tiresome argument> (some might say ugly :-P) look of the hull. I wouldn't mind giving this a try, though. By the way, did anyone manage to snag a copy from Lego.com when they were half off, back in December? This isn't a half bad suggestion, ghoulrealm. Not only do we already get a decent set, but there's a nice selection of brown, as well as a blue 32x32 baseplate. There only looks to be 8-9 pieces that one might have difficulty integrating into a "Pirate MOC". (Excluding the fleshies.) I'll add two more sets that look to be great part packs: This and That. (I'll get around to the specifics some other time.) -
Wonderful find, Brickster! I do enjoy the first Jurassic Park movie quite a bit, so it's great to see someone make a JP MOC. I must concur with my esteemed cowboy that they did a great job of meshing the forefront of the MOC and the background together. The LEGO foliage alone is nicely done. It has a very jungle like feel to it. The gate and surrounding walls are also built well. I give my props to the builder. *y*

I only own the "King's Castle", but I have to say that it was a little underwhelming. The set did provide some nice accessories; many of which I didn't have. I'd vote for the sail barge if it weren't for the fleshies. The only other set that really caught my attention was the "Mythical Creatures". From the reviews and pictures I've gone over it looks great, so this gets my vote. :-P

For a children's toy, the ship is a fairly accurate representation of what a seafaring vessel should look like. What catches my attention more than anything else are the piratical accessories. It's too bad that the photo's too blurry to really distinguish anything. (I can recognize a cup, a cutlass, and an ax.)

This new picture has reinvigorated my interest! Everything is spot on except for that "Dino Attack" like dragon hanging in the air. I hope that thing doesn't increase the price of this set substantially. >:-( It also appears that a modified mold of the skeleton arm is being used. As I suggested... ;-)
