  1. Wow! You really got my attention- what a great topic! I don't post as much as I'd like, but seeing all those Falcons together just flooded me with nostalgia, so I thought I'd chime in. I voted for 4504, because it is my favorite of the three that I own(the others being 7190 and the MINI). I didn't get the UCS Falcon because of space limitations, and I haven't picked up the MIDI yet, but I don't want to miss it. I think the reason my favorite is the 4504 is that it really looks like the Falcon! I remember a review at FBTB that said it truely looked like a bucket of bolts and I couldn't agree more. It's the one I always assemble when I want to display a Falcon. I'ts big enough to get a guest's attention and small enough to fit on a nice bookshelf(although I would like to see someone's face reacting to the UCS in a home). The play features were pretty cool- I loved the automatic ramp and the hyperdrive section was a nice addition, considering it was a major plot-point in ESB. Which brings me to a big reason I like the 4504- It's based on ESB, and in that film, the Millennium Falcon is a true movie star! I could go on for days ranting about all that, but I'll get back to the 4504. Obviously, the mini-figs contribute to the ESB feeling, but I think the model actually looks "faster" than the others. It's probably the awesome Original Trilogy Box art influencing my opinion. However, I got this set in a blue box, so my fixation was already there. I also enjoy the history of this set- I remember all the on-line speculation about this set when pictures showed up on the back of the box of Cloud City. People thought the cockpit only held one mini-fig, and I don't think many people knew it was going to be Hoth-themed. This was also, I believe, the first Star Wars set to include flesh-colored mini-figs. But I'll leave that can of worms alone. 2004 was also a great year for SW fans- The OT was finally released on DVD, the Clone Wars was enjoying a second season, and ROTS was really going to happen! The release of 4504 just added feul to that fire. Now, don't get me wrong- I love all my LEGO Millennium Falcons, and I'm aware 4504 has it's flaws(Don't swoosh it too hard). It's just that I love this one the best!

  2. I voted for That night or next day- I used to be really good at assembling my new sets immediately. I'd say, however, in the last few years I've accumulated quite a few sets that still remain sealed- not because I don't want to open them, I just don't seem to have the time! I remember pulling an all-nighter when I picked up all the Episode II sets at the midnight launch- haven't done that in a while.

  3. I think this would make a great shop-at-home exclusive. I would widen the hangar a bit and include a larger scale X-wing. $200 minimum sounds reasonable to me, but I would want quite a few mini-figs.

Also, does anyone see a potential layout for a Jabba's Palace set? Just widen the throne room to fit Jabba, convert the hangar into a rancor pit, throw a big door on the temple facade and presto!

  4. Wow! Both of those look great! This was my first train set and still one of my all-time favorites. I too wanted the engine to be free-wheeling, so I removed the wheels from the motor and placed them on a 2x4 axle brick, then placed those on each end of the motor. Again, great job guys!

  5. Woah! I haven't seen that yet- has this been posted? That's pretty cool. It might be the best looking mini-fig scale capital ship yet.

Oops- just got home from work- didn't see the discussion in the 2009 thread. Thought they were still talking about the battle packs. Now I feel silly.

  6. I voted Classic Space, although Futuron came in a very close second. Classic Space spanned several years and gave us lots of large spaceships and bases, where most of the other themes only lasted one year, limiting the size of your fleet. Don't get me wrong, though- I pretty much enjoy and collect ALL Lego space!

  7. I'm sure it's been said before, but for the January 2010 wave I would love to see a Hospital at the $100 price point. I think we are due for a new Airport as well. Sorry to request all these re-hashes, but "Otisburg" really needs an updated Hospital & Airport. I would also like to see a new mini-figure collection, maybe with a phone booth & ATM. A Taxi cab would be welcome, also.

  8. Nice review, Brickster! I remember seeing these on clearance at Target for five bucks, which explains why I have over 75 brown round bricks... It's strange how TLC decided to produce a line of trains with a Western feel to most of the rolling stock years after the Wild West theme was retired.

  9. Hey thanks everyone for such a warm reception- I am truly flattered by all the comments, and am getting inspired to go MOC crazy!! Even though my entry is final, I will heed the advice of a few members and tweek Downtown a bit- one thing I still want to do is install a garage door to the news tower (don't have any black door track parts ..yet) Again, many thanks!

  10. Hello everyone, here is my Classic Town Entry- Downtown. I designed this "set" as a companion to my all time favorite set, Main Street. Even though modern elements are allowed in the contest, I took it as a challenge to use "period specific" parts. The yellow building is an apartment complex with a leasing office and market on the first floor. The black building is a TV news tower. In between the two buildings is a sidewalk cafe and bus stop.

There are three vehicles in Downtown: a city bus, a TV camera truck, and a news chopper. The bus uses the classic airplane-style boarding system. The chopper is actually a re-tooled version of a police helicopter from a 1980's idea book.

Here is a close up of the sidewalk cafe with the bus stop in the background.

Thanks everyone for looking, it was a lot of fun creating this entry. For more photos (there are nice interiors in the buildings) you can see my brickshelf folder. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=382754

  11. Oooo I love it! I think your set up would look great next to the original Main Street. The Inn reminds me of the cover from the Idea Book from 1980. The red truck is my favorite part- it just screams Classic Town! Great job!

  12. Hello everyone! I've been visiting this site for quite a while now, and I'm glad I finally got my act together and registered. About myself- I live in Chicago and work at a bar in the Lakeview area. I've been a LEGO Maniac since the 70's and there is no end in sight! I am a huge Star Wars fan and was thrilled when TLC married the franchise ten years ago. However, my true LEGO passion is Classic Town, Space, Castle, and Pirates. Although I am now forty, this "Return to the core themes" has me re-discovering my youth! I'm not a huge MOC'er, but am really excited about this new Classic Town contest. I'm working on something right now that I hope will be worthy of an entry- we'll see! Again, it's great to finally be a member and I'm looking forward to a great time!
