Pirates of the Carribean 5 Sets Discussion

I didn't know the Bermuda triangle has been called the Devil's Triangle before, but it makes sense when you consider how many ships have vanished in the area. I've also been thinking that the ghosts seem to be stuck in the state they were in the moment they died, given the way Salazar's hair and details of his jacket move as if he's still under water, and how many of his ghost crew are missing parts of their bodies without appearing to be affected by it. Like the guy who's missing the top half of his head, but still seem to have all his senses intact, including his vision. From what we know at this point, Salazar was merely hunting and killing every pirate he came across, it doesn't really sound logical to me that he would have transported something cursed. Maybe there was a curse within the cave or general area where the ship was destroyed and the crew died, something supernatural that reawakened the souls of the ship and its crew and captain and keeps them alive. Or reawakened Salazar's soul and his hatred for Jack and lust for revenge keeps himself as well as the souls of the ship and the crew alive. It's an interesting subject, and seeing as there will apparently be one more movie, I hope they're doing a two part story like they did with DMC and AWE, introducing the villain and his motives in DMTNT and save the conclusion of the battle for the next one. That's the main mistake I feel they did with OST, introducing Blackbeard and then killing him off in the same movie.

Pirates of the Carribean 5 Sets Discussion

One thing that hit me is, I assume the main mast of the Silent Mary broke in the explosion when the ship was destroyed. Judging by Jack's apparent age in the flashback, it was quite long ago and I suppose the ship and crew were all trapped inside that cave in the Devil's Triangle until some point shortly before the events in the movie. It's pretty much a heavily damaged ghost ship in its current state, and a ghost ship is probably not at all affected by the weather like "real" ships, but nevertheless I would think removing the broken mast instead of having it hanging down over the railing would be a good idea, unless ghost ships always remain how they were when they were destroyed or something. I also wonder, has it been said where the Devil's Triangle is supposed to be? I'm wondering if it could be in the Bermuda triangle, or if it's the same thing in the movie.

I assume the answer is yes, but does the parts of the masts built by round 2x2 bricks have Technic axles through them to add sturdiness?

Pirates of the Carribean 5 Sets Discussion

I wonder if it could have been a good idea for them to make a full Silent Mary in all her glory, with extra parts included (double set of minifigs for Salazar and co.?) to where you could build the original and if desired, transform it to its ghostly, ruined present form. The downside is it most likely would've been more expensive due to the extra parts like hull and sails and more pearl gold pieces and maybe other colors as well for the ghost form unless they went with a compromise and used the current color scheme. I kinda want the Silent Mary, but I'm still contemplating it since it'll most likely end up in pieces anyway since the only parts I really want are the masts, torn sails, ghost crew and ghost sharks It'll probably be far cheaper to wait and see if I can find the ghost figs, sharks and sails in some BrickLink store in addition to the masts. But then, it won't be the same when I won't have a brand new set to open, look through the manual (and this one is more detailed and great too) and, you know But what the heck, you only live once, if you really want it and can afford it, buy it
  5. I don't have any particular need for it, I was just wondering if there was such a piece made by TLG since it, like other specific parts, would be quite useful for certain things.

Maybe they thought the broken mast would look best with the sails hanging down in collapsed state and the best way to do that was to attach it like that despite the mast ending up backwards. From a certain point of view it doesn't really matter, since I assume the mast breaks when the ship explodes inside the cave we see in the latest trailer and always hangs down in the ghost ship state.
  7. I get what you mean. She did get a hold of how to use the Force rather quickly, even for mind tricks, but regarding the duel with Kylo at the end, I think it's important to remember that he was shot with Chewie's bowcaster shortly before, which was demonstrated throughout the movie to be powerful. I also reckon the duel with Finn on beforehand took a bit of his remaining strength as well. This doesn't explain how and why she seemingly got so strong al of a sudden, but it's a part of the reason for Kylo's defeat on his own end. I don't mind Rey the way she was done in TFA, but I do think it would have been a bit more logical if they made her capable of only resisting Kylo and keeping him out of her head and dropped the whole "backfire" thing. Potentially also dropped her defeating him and instead having the fight interrupted by the ground splitting apart, leaving them separated and her unable to get to him and him maybe collapsing due to blood loss from the bowcaster shot. On topic: Was there any talk of a possible MagnaGuard figure, or was that just on peoples' wishlists? I think a MagnaGuard could be cool, complete with a good quality cape (which Grievous lacked).
  8. I haven't found any, so I reckon the answer is no, but does there exist yet a part like the one below, but with axle holes instead of bar holders on the sides? Basically a connector #2 with axle hole in the center instead of pin hole?

It would be interesting to see if one of those who end up getting the Silent Mary decided to try modding it into a version of the ship as it was before it was damaged, like we see in the beginning of the trailer when Salazar and the crew were still alive.
  10. Bringing this up again, but I've slowly been disassembling the silage plow from my Claas Xerion set over the last hour while watching YouTube-videos and while doing this, I found that the 24z gear in the plow has no friction whatsoever, just like you described here. I don't recall it being frictionless when I built it, but it's in perfect condition. It's exactly like regular 24z gears except having a barely noticeable slack that allows it to slide on an axle.

I've spottet more parts I want, haha. I find the price a bit stiff though, I'll likely wait and see if I can get this set for a lower price later. Since nothing's been said about an exclusive or limited run of the Silent Mary, I take it the set will be in production for the usual run? At least available for a year?

Pirates of the Carribean 5 Sets Discussion

I don't recall any of the visible ghost crew members in the trailer wearing a sword belt, I assume TLG dropped the sword belt mold on the minifigs due to that. I wonder, if anyone has figured it out from examining the images of the minifigs - the ghost crew member who has the ghostly lower half, what color(s) does that piece have? It looks kinda silvery/chrome/partly transparent to me, but I can't say for sure. I find that lower half piece interesting though.

I don't have an issue with the brighter colors, I agree that they do make the SM more appealing. The figurehead on the actual ship seem to be holding only a spear and not any shield like the Lego version does. I wonder if the shield is added for more detail or something. Also, seeing as Salazar appears to be able to manipulate the materials in the ship (I assume) to raise the bow in order to crush other ships, it wouldn't be far-fetched to assume he can also make the figurehead come alive to aid him when he and his crew fight pirates.

The more pics I see of the Silent Mary, the more interested I get, although I'm mostly only into Technic and only see a great interest in a part of the parts. It strikes me that this model has many parts that that seem way too light/colorful compared to the image of the ship in the manual and the shots we've seen from the trailers. I assume it's done that way to make the Silent Mary more appealing though.

Do you mean Yavin 4 by the end of S4?
  16. The pin hole with a single pin (15100), while not being impossible to take apart, would certainly require some force if put together like Didumos69 showed on the previous page with the 2 pin version. I'm gonna try that with 15100 myself just to see

    Which Comic Do You Read?

I currently read the ongoing Star Wars comics (the Star Wars and Darth Vader titles) which are being translated and released here in Norway in soft cover book format containing 6 of the comic releases each.

    Star Wars

IIRC Jar Jar was appointed senator of Naboo after Palpatine was elected chancellor, right? Did he come up with the idea of granting Palpatine emergency powers to deal with the clone war? I always understood it as there being more people (or other people) behind this idea, not only Jar Jar. But either way, Palpatine managed to hide his true nature from th whole galaxy, even from the Jedi order. I don't blame Jar Jar even if it was his idea, since no one had the slightest idea Palpatine secretly was a powerful Sith Lord. I heard some time ago that George Lucas originally planned the clumsy Jar Jar to be a secret Sith or something, secretly working with Palpatine, but changed his mind and changed Jar Jar's role after TPM came out and he learned how disliked Jar Jar became. Do you think his original plan stayed in the prequels anyway and Jar Jar's suggestion in the senate was actually a part of the plan to make sure Palpatine would gain the political power he needed to overthrow the republic and create the empire?
  19. I got mine today and are currently still building it, step 219 while I'm typing. My 24z gears are normal with friction, I don't know what could be up with yours.

    What did you buy today?

Received 42066 Air Race Jet in the mail today.
  21. Strange. 8110 from 2011 is the earliest set I've bought and I'm 99% sure those black 5L axles have come from a set.
  22. On the topic of axles: Is there any set since 2011 that have been released featuring black 5L axles? While building this week I found myself having two of those. I can't however remember seeing 5L axles in black since TLG started color coding parts and the 5L became LBG. I know for sure I haven't gotten these from BrickLink, since I get enough of the shorter axles from the sets I buy.
  23. A big thanks from me too for fixing the loading error What would be do without our dedicated admins and mods
  24. Yes, it seems so! I tried going between pages in topics in the Technic forum after reading your post and indeed it seems to be all good now!

    Review: 75111 Darth Vader

Having this figure myself, the only cons for me is that the cape is too short and that I think the helmet/head should have been bigger. From what I can see on images, Vader's head piece is the same size as the human characters' heads, yes? In the movies, unless I'm mistaken, Vader's head is noticeably bigger than other peoples' heads because of the helmet, and being roughly the same size, I think Vader's head looks too small on the constraction figure.
